Hybarger, Mildred Harmon
MOORESVILLE - Mrs. Mildred Harmon Hybarger, 86, of Fieldstone Rd., Mooresville, died Monday, February 5, 2001, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville. Born on September 14, 1914, in Mosheim, TN, she was a daughter of the late John Isaac and Flostella Hawkins Harmon. Mrs. Hybarger was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Mooresville. Mrs. Hybarger was preceded in death by her husband, George Paul Hybarger.

She is survived by her sons, Bobby Hybarger and wife, Kathi, of Tega Cay, SC, John Hybarger and wife, Patricia, of Lilburn, GA, and Doug Hybarger and wife, Kathy, of Denver, NC; brothers, Rex Harmon of Mosheim, TN, and Howell Harmon, of Lake City, CO; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Services and burial will take place in Albany, TN. Family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM, Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 454 Fieldstone Rd., Mooresville, NC 28115. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family of Mrs. Hybarger with local arrangements.

Shook, Phillip Manuel
MOORESVILLE - Mr. Phillip Manuel Shook, 60 of Glenwood Dr., Mooresville, died Monday, February 5, 2001, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville. Born on December 7, 1940, in Mooresville, he was a son of Florence Brackett Shook Stutts, of Stonebridge Retirement Center and the late David Manuel Shook. Mr. Shook was a 1959 graduate of Mooresville High School. He retired in 1999 from Maintenance Supply in Huntersville where he worked in the warehouse. He was a member of Fieldstone Presbyterian Church, Mooresville, where he served as Elder, Deacon and currently Clerk of the Session. Mr. Shook was a former member of the Cornelius Jaycees. He enjoyed playing softball and golf and also coached little league baseball and basketball. In addition to his mother, Mr. Shook is survived by his wife, Mary Abernethy Shook, whom he married June 2, 1962; children, Timothy Shook, and Sherry Sawyer and husband, Tim, both of Mooresville; grandchildren, Timothy Phillip David Sawyer and Megan Leigh Sawyer, and brother, Joel Shook and wife, Doris, of Cornelius. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, February 7, 2001, at Fieldstone Presbyterian Church, Mooresville, with Rev. Virginia A. Cowfer and Dr. Paul E. Childers officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville. Family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM, Tuesday, February 6, 2001, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville. Memorials may be made to Fieldstone Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1206, Mooresville, NC 28115 and/or Mooresville High School Athletic Boosters Club, 659 E. Center Ave., Mooresville, NC 28115. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family of Mr. Shook.

MORGANTON - Lula Mitchell Mull, age 95, died Mon., Feb. 5, 2001. Funeral Services, 11 AM Wed., Feb. 7, 2001 Kirksey Memorial Chapel. Burial, Burke Mem. Pk. Visitation 7-8:30 Tues. at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Farris, Irma `Granny
MT. HOLLY - Irma `Granny Farris` Black Farris, 96, formerly of 202 Moore Ave. died February 5, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was a native of Piedmont, SC and daughter of the late William & Frances Jarrett Black. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell C. Farris.

She was a homemaker, Oldest Living Member of First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Holly. Member of the Ladies Bible Class, Circle #1, and received the Presbyterian Women's Life Membership.

She is survived by 4 children and 3 spouses: Frances Farris Wingate of Mt. Holly, Clifford R. & Evelyn Farris of Cornelius, Billy C. & Judy of Denver and Brenda Sue Farris & Charles Loftin of Mt. Holly; 6 grandchildren: Markus Wingate of Gastonia, Michael Wingate of Charlotte, Angela Jackson of Mooresville, Lisa Farris Duckworth of Stanley, Loris Farris Fields of Denver and Chuck Loftin of Meritt Island, FL; 3 great grandchildren: Taylor Wingate of Charlotte, Ryan Loftin of Meritt Island, FL and Lauren Wingate of Gastonia.

Services will be conducted by the Revs. Todd Wright and Wilson Rhoton, 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with the burial to follow in Hillcrest Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Funeral home Tuesday night from 7-9 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home of Mrs. Charles Loftin 705 Pierce Ave., Mt. Holly.

Carothers Funeral Home in Mt. Holly is serving the family.

Brooks, Glenn Harding
NEWTON - Glenn Harding Brooks, 79, died Mon., Feb. 5, 2001 at home. Funeral is 2:00PM Wednesday at First United Methodist Church. Burial is in Eastview Cemetery. Visitation is tonight at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home from 7:00-8:30.

Benson, Arleivia Blakeney
PAGELAND - Mrs. Arleivia Blakeney Benson, 77, died January 31, 2001 in Washington, D.C. Funeral 3pm Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church; burial in the church cemetery. King's Funeral Home, Pageland is in charge.

Briles, Virgil Strickland
POLKTON - Mr. Virgil Strickland Briles, Jr., 78, of Route 2, Box 138, Polkton, NC died Sunday, February 4, 2001 at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at Rocky Mount Baptist Church, with Rev. Wayne Hamilton officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery, with Military Rites by Albemarle-Stanly County DAV. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle Chapel.

Born May 11, 1922, in Thomasville, NC, Mr. Briles was a son of the late Pansy Jordan Briles and Virgil Strickland Briles, Sr. Mr. Briles was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre, Philippines, during World War II and retired Factory Representative with General Motors Truck & Coach Division. He enjoyed attending annual military reunions of the 749th Railway Battalion.

Surviving him are his son, Virgil Strickland "Strick" Briles, III of Oakboro, NC; brother, John Briles of Danville, VA; sisters, Mary Watford, Dot Hunt, Virginia Snyder, all of Thomasville, NC; and grandchildren, Brandon Briles, Virgil "B.J." Briles, IV and Heather Briles.

The family will be at the home of Virgil Briles, III, 8372 Hill-Ford Road, Oakboro, NC.

Hartsell Funeral Home is serving the Briles family.

Turner, Alice Gaddy
POLKTON - Mrs. Alice Gaddy Turner, 91, of Polkton, NC died February 4, 2001 at Britthaven of Piedmont, Albemarle, NC.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Wightman United Methodist Church, with Rev. Avery Owenby, Rev. Did Boyd & Rev. Betty Boyd officiating. Burial will be in the Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Turner was born in Anson Co., NC, April 19, 1909 to the late Robert Franklin and Colon Allen Gaddy and was married to the late Harold Turner Sr. She was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church.

Surviving her are: sons, Wilson Turner of Polkton, NC, Mike Turner of Ansonville, NC, Harold Turner Jr. of Kinston, NC; daughters, Betty T. Carpenter, Glenda T. Moore, both of Norwood, NC, Peggy T. Beachum of Ansonville, NC; half-brother, William Crump of Charlotte, NC; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to: Wightman United Methodist Church, Rt. 2, Polkton, NC 28135; or Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Route 2, Polkton, NC 28135.

Dyches, Furman "Buzzy" Alfred
ROCK HILL - Mr. Furman "Buzzy" Alfred Dyches, Jr., age 73, of 3933 Ridgewood Rd., Rock Hill, SC died Sunday, February 4, 2001 at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM, Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at Laurelwood Cemetery, with Dr. Jerry Sosebee officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel from 4:00 until 5:30 PM and at other times at the home of his son, Phil Dyches, 282 Oak Ct., Catawba, SC.

Mr. Dyches was a native of Laray, SC, son of the late Furman A. Dyches, Sr. and the late Lillie Mae Dyches. He was of the Baptist faith and served in the US Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Dyches was retired from Celanese Corporation with 39 years of service. He loved swimming and boating in the area lakes.

Surviving Mr. Dyches are his three sons, Raymond Dyches of Rock Hill, Phil Dyches of Catawba and Greg Dyches of Rock Hill; his daughter, Lori Ann Haskett of Holden Beach, NC; his sister, Alluwee D. Hollingsworth of Rock Hill; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

McCoy, Elver Green
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Elver Green McCoy, 98, of 1915 Ebenezer Rd., Rock Hill, SC, Sunday, February 4, 2001 at White Oak Manor.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Laurelwood Cemetery, with Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating.

Mrs. McCoy was a native of Rock Hill, SC, daughter of the late J.H. Green and the late Mollie Neal Green. She was a member of Park Baptist Church and retired from Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Plant. Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by her husband, William McCoy.

She is survived by her step-daughter, Willie Mae McCoy Keller of York, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to: Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 729 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Snipes, Ronald Durwood
ROCK HILL - Ronald Durwood Snipes, 63, of 658 Rockwood Dr. passed away February 3, 2001 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC.

funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday February 7, 2001 at The Chapel of Bass Funeral Home with the Dr. Timothy McClendon officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park.

Born in York Co., he was the son of the late Woodrow Thomas Snipes and the late Elise Beatrice Dozier. He was the owner and operator of Snipes Upholstery Shop. Mr. Snipes was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a member of the American Legion Frank Roach Post # 34, member of the VFW, and the Moose Lodge # 86. Mr. Snipes was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Survivors are: 1 son, Ronald Eric Snipes of Bonair, GA; 2 daughters: Donna Kay Dunn of Fernadina Beach, FL, Susan Anderson of Kokomo, Indiana; 5 brothers: Bobby Ray Snipes of Fort Mill, SC, Norman Thomas Snipes of Rock Hill, SC, Kenneth Michael Snipes of Rock Hill, SC, Gerald Browning Snipes of Rock Hill, SC, James Dunlap Snipes of York, SC; 1 sister, Peggy Joyce Snipes Hall of New Orleans, Louisiana; 6 Grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 from 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Bass Funeral Home and other times at the home of Keith & Beth Hallman 1434 Greenwood Lane, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
