Jean Sheffield Rives, 70, of Charlotte, died Sunday, February 11, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital.
Funeral is 11:00 AM Thursday, February 14, 2001 at McEwen funeral service, Charlotte Chapel, with the Reverend Herbert A. Moyer officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 17, 2001 at Rockfish Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Waynesboro, VA with the Reverend David Cameron officiating.
Mrs. Rives was born in Warrenton, Virginia, a daughter of the late John Robert Sheffield and Mary Lillian Sprouse Sheffield. She had retired as a secretary and bookkeeper and was a member of Providence United Methodist Church where she served as an office volunteer as well as at the Shepherd's Center. Mrs. Rives was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Rives, Jr.
Surviving are daughters, Mary Rives Young, of Macungie, PA and Belinda Rives Jones of Concord, NC; grandchildren, William Young, Daniel Young, Nicholas Jones and Victoria Jones.

Ross, Mindy Alease
Mrs. Mindy Alease Ross, age 91 of Charlotte, died February 12, 2001 at Beverly Health Care Renaissance. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday at McEwen Charlotte Chapel with Reverend Alfred G. Garr, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7:00-8:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ross was born August 1, 1909 in Troy, N.C. daughter of the late William Martin and Nancy Campbell Ledbetter and was a member of Garr Memorial Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family.
She is survived by daughters, Joann Decker of Charlotte, Barbara McGee of Morganton, NC and Jackie Tipton of Charlotte; a son, Gene Ross and his wife, Joyce of Charlotte; sister, Irene Buchanan of Monroe, NC; 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

CHESTER - Mr. Raymond Floyd "Nick" Mobley, age 78, of 2716 Wilkes Loop, Chester, SC, husband of Doris (McCallum) Mobley died Monday, February 12th at Bernadin Hospice House, Columbia, SC.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. David Sealy officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mobley was born in Chester Co., SC, June 11, 1922, son of the late Robert Samuel Mobley and Mary Frances (Foutz) Mobley. He was retired from Springs Industries; attended Chester County schools; and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
Surviving him are his wife, Doris Mobley; two step-sons, Oliver Young of Chester, SC, Herbert Young of Carlisle, SC; 1 step-daughter, Olivia Martin of Gaffney, SC; 3 sisters, Viola Hill of Chester, SC, Gertrude Montgomery of Rock Hill, SC, Lillie McSwain of Chester, SC; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

CHESTER - Mr. Jesse Wylie Parrish, age 82 of 2667 Crystal Creek Road, Chester, S.C., widower of Lillie Threatt Parrish, died Monday, February 12th at Chester County Hospital.

Mr. Parrish was born September 15, 1918 in Chester, SC; son of the late William Walker Parrish and Clara Mae (Thomas) Parrish. He attended Rock Hill Schools; retired from Springs Industries; was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and was a member of Saluda Street Church of God.
He is survived by step-sons, Albert T. Hinson, Jr. of Montgomery, AL, William D. Steele of Rock Hill, SC, Crier W. Reid of Rock Hill, SC; 1 step-brother; 8 step-grandchildren; and 8 step-great-grandchildren.

CHINA GROVE - Winifred Reid Beaver, 81, of 1240 Roberts Street, China Grove, NC died Sunday, February 11, 2001 at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born February 17, 1919 in Rowan Co., NC, he was a son of the late Mamie Rodgers Beaver and Sloan O. Beaver. He was educated in Rowan Co. schools; retired from Burlington Industries; was a member of First United Methodist Church; and the Young at Heart Group; former President of the Men's Bible Class & Methodist Men.
He is survived by his wife, Violet Elizabeth Winecoff Beaver; sons, Glenn R. Beaver of Concord, NC, A.L. Chamberlain of Surfside Beach, SC; daughter, Judy B. Kidd of Monroe, NC; brothers, Elmer "Bill" Beaver of Kannapolis, NC, Banks M. Beaver of Kannapolis, NC; sisters, Gladys Tate of China Grove, NC, Marie Wagner of Salisbury, NC; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rusty Inman & Rev. Kristen Lassiter officiating. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Park. Mrs. Ward was a native of Spruce Pine, NC, daughter of the late Howard Glenn and Retta Willis Glenn of Marion, NC. She was a Pharmacy Technician, formerly employed with Rite Aid Drugs in Clover, SC. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Clover, SC.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Jennings Ward of Shelby, NC; son, David Glenn Ward of Stanley, NC; daughter, Sharon Ward of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Brenda G. Williams of Brunswick, GA and Jeanne G. Grace of Waverly, Iowa; and one grandchild.

McGinnis, Ethel Lucille Rhyne
GASTONIA - Mrs. Ethel Lucille Rhyne McGinnis, 98, of Courtland Terrace, died February 11, 2001 at her residence.
She was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late Alonzo Augustus and Bessie Pearl Lewis. Mrs. McGinnis was the wife of the late Odell Frederick McGinnis and sister of the late Kenneth Rhyne, Katherine Thornburg, and Helen Stowe.
Mrs. McGinnis graduated from Gastonia Central School in 1920 and Lenoir Rhyne College in 1925. She taught school for one year during the time she was at Lenoir Rhyne and later retired from teaching second grade at Flint Groves School.
She was a lifelong member of Lutheran Chapel Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, including the Ladies Class, which she was teaching at age 90. Mrs. McGinnis moved to Courtland Terrace in 1991 and was active there as long as her health permitted. She was known as the "Walking Lady" at Courtland Terrace.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis McGinnis Carothers and husband, Buddy of St. George Island, Florida, Susan McGinnis Cooper and husband, John of Gastonia; four brothers, Clifford Rhyne and wife, Betty of Gastonia, Rufus Rhyne and wife, Myra of Newton, Walter Rhyne and wife, Eula of Gastonia, James Douglas Rhyne and wife, Marion of Gastonia; a sister, Cornelia Counts of Charlotte; four granddaughters, Carol Carothers and husband, Ronnie Lineberger, Elizabeth Anne Carothers, Julie Cooper Meeker and husband, Richard and Rebecca Cooper Bragdon and husband, William; four great-granddaughters, Jessica Phillips, Rebecca Phillips, Megan Debelius, and Addison Meeker; and a great-great-grandson, Andy Carothers.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. McGinnis will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at 3:30 PM in the Sanctuary of Lutheran Chapel Church with Dr. Michael W. Frye officiating. The casket will be placed in the church chapel at 10:00 AM for viewing. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:15 PM in the chapel. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
