Player, Roy Lester
LANCASTER - Rev. Roy Lester Player, 75, of 3187 Highway 160 West, Fort Mill, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2001 at the Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia. He was born April 12, 1925, in Lancaster, a son of the late John and Mammie Evans Player. Rev. Player was twice married, first to the late Mrs. Nancy Robinson Player and then to Mrs. Lois Coleman Player. He was the pastor at Macedonia Baptist Church of Fort Mill. He organized the Northside Baptist Church and the Catawba Baptist Church of Lancaster. Rev. Player was a U.S. Army World War Two Veteran.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at 11:00 AM from the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel by the Rev. Jim Miller and the Rev. Tommy Cole. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.
Rev. Player is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lois Coleman Player; three daughters, Ms. Glenda Foxx of Gastonia, Mrs. Jim (Melanie) Miller of Spartanburg, and Ms. Nancy Gail Mahaffey of Fort Mill; two brothers, Mr. Woody Player of Charlotte and Mr. John Player of North Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Mrs. Wilma Hendrix and Mrs. Ruth Blackmon, both of Lancaster; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church, 1726 Zoar Road, Fort Mill, SC 29708.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel.

MONROE - Mr. James Walter "J.W." Wallace, 62, of Monroe, NC died February 10, 2001.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, SC.
Mr. Wallace was born in Chesterfield, SC, a son of the late Charlie R. and Blanche Davis Wallace. He was a retired Conductor with Southern Railway and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Wallace was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Heather Nicole Wallace.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Polson "Peggy" Wallace, of the home; 1 son, Ricky Jay Wallace of Monroe, NC; 1 daughter, Regina Carol Wallace Graven of Monroe, NC; 1 granddaughter, Tiffny Erin Grave of Monroe, NC; 1 sister, Ann Lee Wallace of Charlotte, NC.

MOORESVILLE - Christine C. Moss, 72, Clodfelter Rd. Mooresville died Monday, February 12, 2001 in Presbyterian Hospital.

NORWOOD - Mr. Roy Francis Byrd, 80, of 140 Crawley Avenue, Norwood, NC died February 12, 2001 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at Norwood First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Roland Banks and Rev. Rob Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Norview Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Stanly Funeral Home, Inc.
Mr. Byrd was a native of Stanly Co., NC. He was retired, Owner & Operator of Union 76 Station, Norwood, NC.
Surviving him are his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Thompson Byrd, of the home; son, Roy Fred Byrd of Norwood, NC; sisters, Mrs. Louise Shankle, Mrs. Alma Ballard, both of Norwood, NC, Mrs. Nell Hinson of Albemarle, NC; granddaughters, Beverly Bowles and Crystal Byrd.

Craig, Randy Lee
ROCK HILL - Mr. Randy Lee Craig, 49, of 270 Green Bay Drive, died Sunday, February 11, 2001 at Piedmont Medical Center.
Funeral services and interment will be held privately.
Mr. Craig was a native of Rock Hill, SC and the son of the late William Hazel and Etta Mae Arnold Craig. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Craig is survived by his two daughters, Christy C. Flynn of Fort Mill, SC and Bianca Craig of York, SC; five brothers, William Hazel Craig, Jr., Larry Craig, Paul Craig and Mike Arnold, all of Rock Hill and Joe Craig of Fort Mill, SC; and one granddaughter, Megan Flynn.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 13, 2001 from 6-8 PM at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel and other times at the home.

Ellis, Robert Edwin
ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert Edwin Ellis, Jr., 39, of 1953 Sandlewood Drive, Rock Hill, SC died Saturday, February 10, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at Catawba Baptist Church, with Dr. Tommy Huddleston and Rev. Jerry Devinney officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the home.
Mr. Ellis was a native of Spartanburg, SC and the son of Norma Croft Ellis and the late Robert Edwin Ellis Sr. He was a machinist at Duff-Norton, Charlotte, NC and a member of Oakdale Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Marlene Settle Ellis, of the home; his sons, Todd Ellis, Kevin Ellis, Justin Ellis and Joseph Riser, all of Rock Hill; his daughter, Elizabeth Riser of Rock Hill; his paternal grandmother, Pauline Ellis of Rock Hill; his maternal grandparents, John and Ruth Croft of Rock Hill; and his sister, Julie Dulin of Rock Hill.
