Ms. Jessie Corene Allen, 71, of Charlotte, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at White Oak Manor. A funeral service will be held 11:00am Thursday, March 29, in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins & Whittington funeral service with the Reverend, Billy Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park, Mint Hill. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 - 8:30pm at the funeral home.

Jessie was born October 31, 1929, in Cartersville, GA, the daughter of the late James Crawford Allen and Lillie Mae Davis Allen.

Survivors include her sons, David Lee Allen and wife, Debra, of Columbia, SC, and Dennis Jordan and wife, Charlotte, of Charlotte; grandchildren, Michael Jordan and wife, Teresa, Jeffrey Jordan and Jessica Jordan; great grandchildren Amanda and Christopher Jordan; brother, Julian Herschel Allen of Shallotte, NC; sister, Edna Lucille Simpson of Charlotte; three nieces and one nephew.

Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 5019 Nations Crossing, Suite 217, Charlotte, NC 28217.

Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Boulevard.

Barnes, Gertrude Merritt
Gertrude Merritt Barnes, 84, of Charlotte, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Today, at McEwen funeral service, Charlotte Chapel, with the Reverend Dennis Conner, the Reverend Doctor Charles Wilson and the Reverend Effie McClain.

Mrs. Barnes was born June 6, 1916 in Mecklenburg County, a daughter of the late William Roland Merritt and Laura Blackwelder Merritt. She was a homemaker and a long time member of Thomasboro Baptist Church. Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Foy Barnes, a brother, W.O. Merritt and a sister, Lorena M. Stewart.

Mrs. Barnes is survived by a daughter, Joan Barnes Oliver of Charlotte; sons, Grady Lee Barnes and wife, Julia Barnes of Campobella, SC and Mitchell Foy Barnes and wife, Judy Barnes of Davidson, NC; sister, Hazel M. Johnson of Troutman, NC; seven grandsons; one granddaughter; eight great-granddaughters; four great-grandsons; and two great-great granddaughters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Thomasboro Baptist Church, 216 Bradford Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208, or to the American Cancer Society, 500 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28202, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 1628 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28207.

Bradford, James `Jimmy` L.
Mr. James `Jimmy` L. Bradford, 52 of 6400 Somersworth Drive, died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at Mercy Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11am, Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Little Rock AME Zion Church with visitation beginning prior to the service at 10:00am. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West.

He is survived by his wife, Debra; two sons, Brandon and Lendon Bradford, both of Charlotte; daughter Donya Parker of Charlotte, five brothers, Kenneth Reid (Paulette) and Jerome Reid (Sallie) of Georgia, Fran Reid (Linda), Darryl Menton and Jerry Menton, all of Charlotte; two sisters, Sadie R. Brown (John T.) of Charlotte, and Anita M. Wala of Matthews; and a host of nephews and nieces.

Johnson Funeral Home is serving the Bradford Family.

Cannon, Margaret Vance
Margaret Vance Cannon, 79, of Charlotte, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center. Born December 7, 1921, in Mecklenburg County, she was daughter of John David Vance and Mildred Pruitt Vance. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, a member of Charles Rhinehart Sunday School Class, retired from Leaksville Woolen Mill, and a graduate of Long Creek High School Class of 1939.

Survivors include sons, John David Cannon of Rock Hill, SC, Donald E. Canon of Huntersville, and Joe C. Cannon of Charlotte; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her husband, Eugene `Gene` Cannon preceded her in death, January 8, 1994.

funeral service will be 3:00 pm, Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. A. Owen Peeler and Rev. Ronnie Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Raymer Funeral Home 7:00 to 8:30 pm Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 1915 Oakdale Road, Charlotte, NC 28216.

Dulin, Ruth Louise Tucker
Ruth Louise Tucker Dulin, born March 6, 1917 in Charlotte, was a daughter of the late Sally and Matthew Krone Tucker. At the age of 84, she departed this earthly life March 26, 2001 to begin her eternal life and rejoin her family and friends that have gone before her.

Ruth is the last of nine siblings. Also, preceding her in death was her husband of 52 years, Lee Roy `Snooks` Dulin, on March 11, 1988. Ruth attended Charlotte Mecklenburg schools and went on to work for Hudson Hosiery Mills for a number of years. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include three children, Jerry Lee Dulin and his wife, Edith, of Concord, Debbie Lynn Dulin of the home, and Libby Ann Dulin of Huntersville; three grandchildren, Nancy, Wayne and Timmy; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

The children would like to extend their appreciation to Presbyterian Home Care and also a special thank you to Nancy at hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, March 28, in the Wilson Chapel of Hankins & Whittington funeral service, 5301 Albemarle Road. The Reverend Cleve Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm this evening at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the National Kidney Foundation of NC, 5950 Fairview Road, Suite 550, Charlotte, NC 28210.

Garrett, Hazel Powell
Mrs. Hazel Powell Garrett, 54, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at her home in Charlotte.

Mrs. Garrett was born December 26, 1946 in Reidsville, NC, the daughter of the late Robert Lester Powell and Mamie Vaughn Powell. Following graduation from Reidsville High School, Mrs. Garrett furthered her education at Guilford College where she received a B.S. degree in mathematics.

Mrs Garrett's teaching career began at Page High School in Greensboro. She later taught at Bartlett-Yancey High School in Caswell County and Rockingham County Senior High School. Her teaching career continued in Charlotte where she taught at Garinger High School and Smith Junior High School, and most recently at Olympic High School where she served as Head of the Mathematics Department. During her years of teaching, Mrs. Garrett also coached high school tennis, as well as serving as a sponsor for the cheerleaders and Beta Club.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Lee Garrett; two sons, Robert Powell Stanfield and Jonathan Lewis Stanfield; step-son, Alan Lee Garrett; step-daughter, Shannan Garrett Lydon; and two grandchildren, Caleb Powell Stanfield and Lydia Hope Stanfield, all of Charlotte.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 in the Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel with the Reverend Dan Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Blackwood, Gary Bradshaw, Ken Cobb, Bill Floyd, Ken Grimes, Michael McGee, Jim McNeill, and Gary Mintz.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 or to the American Cancer Society, 500 East Morehead Street, Suite 211, Charlotte, NC 28202.

Griffin, Marie D.
Mrs. Marie D. Griffin, 51, died March 25, 2001 at her residence after a brave battle with breast cancer.

Funeral services will be at 2 pm Wednesday at Westmoreland Baptist Church, with Reverend Jerry Cloninger officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 pm tonight at McEwen Charlotte Chapel. Pallbearers will be Jackie Simmons, Brandon Clark, Jerry Holder, Isiah Brown, Horace Broome and Wayne Marks.

Mrs. Griffin was born March 17, 1950 in Charlotte, a daughter of Hildegard Knopp Dellinger and the late Leroy Dellinger. She attended Westmoreland Baptist Church, was a graduate of Mt. Holly High School, and was associated with First Union Bank for 27 years.

She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Marshell D. Griffin; daughters Lisa Kirchner and husband Dan, of Charlotte, and Tanya Smith and husband Stacy, of Belmont; sons Travis W. Griffin, and J. Scott Griffin and wife Lorraine, all of Mint Hill; grandson Christopher Smith; her mother Hildegard Dellinger, of Mt. Holly; brothers Harvey Dellinger and Dennis Dellinger, both of Stanley.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.

Arrangements are by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service, Charlotte Chapel.

Hanna, Kathie Lynn Ballard
Mrs. Kathie Lynn Ballard Hanna, -- 45, ended her suffering on March 25, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center, after a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Thursday at Park Street United Methodist Church in Belmont, with the Reverend Robert V. Dodd and Reverend Ray Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Wednesday at McLean-Bumgardner Funeral Home, Belmont.

A native of Mecklenburg County, Kathie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Kathie brought a lot of joy to those who knew her. She went out of her way to help others and keep others in her thoughts. She also thought of others before herself even when life wasn't being kind to her and her family. The little things in life made her happy; a baby's smile, a trip to Pigeon Forge, TN, a new cross stitch, a family get together. All who knew her will miss her greatly. She was also a member of Park Street United Methodist Church, Belmont, NC, and was a homemaker.

Kathie is survived by her husband of 20 years, Keith C. Hanna of Charlotte; her sons and daughter-in-law Brian Keith and Toni Hanna, and Gary Dean Wright, all of Charlotte; her father and mother, Rupert W. and Ruth Greene Ballard, of Mt. Holly; her brother and sister-in-law, Larry W. and Lisa S. Ballard, of Charlotte; her grandchildren Brooke Hanna and Brian Hanna, II, both of Charlotte; and her niece and nephew, Annah R. Ballard and Kerby W. Ballard, both of Charlotte.

Memorials may be made to the Speedway Children's Charities, 5555 Concord Parkway South, Suite 336, Concord, NC 28207.

Jamison, Thomas
Mrs. Thomas Jamison of 4718 Woodstone Drive, Charlotte, died on Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Grier funeral service is in charge of the arrangements.

Lee, Annie Beatrice
Mrs. Annie Beatrice Lee, , 84, died March 21, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital.

funeral service is scheduled for 2 pm Wednesday at St. Paul Presbyterian Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm Wednesday at St. Paul Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Lee is survived by her daughter, Virginia Louise Watson and her husband Willie, of Catskill, NY; her brothers, John Grier and James Grier and his wife Inez, all of Charlotte; her sisters-in-law, Drucilla Grier, Ellen Grier, and Lucille Mangum, all of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

Grier funeral service of Charlotte is in charge.

Love, Ida Bell
Ida Bell Love, -- 79, of 10211 Harwood Lane, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was a native of Cleveland County and daughter of the late James Curtis and Mamie Elizabeth Beam Bell. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Ethel Rains.

She was retired from textiles and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Lawndale.

She is survived by her husband, Lewis Jackson Love; son James Robert Love of Charlotte; daughters, Virginia Ross of Charlotte, Patsy Trantham of Charlotte and Carolyn Caldwell of Charlotte; brothers Claude Bell of Kings Mountain and Wray Bell of Kings Mountain; sisters Elizabeth Bell of Kings Mountain and Mae Hoyle of Shelby; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. Harold Cantrell, 11am Thursday at Carothers Funeral Home with the burial to follow in Forest Lawn West. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday night from 7-9pm.

Carothers Funeral Home in Mt. Holly is serving the family.

Lowdon, Dorothy Schenken
Dorothy Schenken Lowdon, 91, of Charlotte, born May 1, 1909 in Washington, D.C., died peacefully at home on Friday, March 23, 2001. Her 91 years were complete with adventure, love, devotion, loss, pride, grace, family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Graham Norris Lowdon, and her son, Captain Graham Norris Lowdon, Jr.

She is survived by her family, daughter Linde Lowdon Mullis and son-in-law, William Frank Mullis, both of Charlotte; daughter-in-law Jane Draper Cantine, of Denver, Colorado; grandson Todd Hunter Lowdon of San Francisco; granddaughter Holly Lowdon Thomas of Charlotte; granddaughter Kimberly Mullis Chitty of Wilmington, Delaware; granddaughter Amy Dunn Mullis of Charlotte; and seven great grandchildren.

A private family observance will be held at Christ Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.

Marshall, Ms. Gladell Deloris
Ms. Gladell Deloris Marshall, age 56, died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at her home.

A native of Charlotte, Ms. Marshall was born April 22, 1944 to the late Nelson Eugene Marshall and Bessie Mae Marshall. She attended Charlotte City Schools and was a long time employee of Greif Corp.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Marshall was preceded in death by her devoted grandmother, Mrs. Mabel Lee Davidson.

Ms. Marshall is survived by her son, Roderick Marshall (Linda) of Charlotte; four grandchildren Bryan, Skakeeia, Kristopher, and Skyler, all of Charlotte; five brothers, Nelson E. Marshall, Jr. (Delores), Survella Marshall (Ruth), Larry Marshall, Randy Marshall, and Darryl Marshall (Tani), all of Charlotte; four sisters, Barbara J. Lindsay, Marilyn Marshall, Debra Marshall, and Wanda Marshall, all of Charlotte; special Partner, Calvin Jones, of Charlotte; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Mrs. April Grant, Mrs. Lisa Matthews, and to all Mercy Hospital 3rd floor nurses.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Parkwood Institutional CME Church, 802 Tom Hunter Road, with the Rev. Rayfield Medcalf officiating. Interment will follow in York Memorial Park. Visitation is Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home.
