Martin, Helen James Alexander
Helen James Alexander Martin, age 73, of Charlotte, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at her home. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Plaza Presbyterian Church with Reverend G. Thomas Tate officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at the Hankins and Whittington Wilson Chapel, 5301 Albemarle Road.

Mrs. Martin was born in Charlotte on July 6, 1927, a daughter of the late James Andrew Alexander and Flora Helen Fesperman Alexander. She graduated from Tech High School in 1945. She also was a member of Plaza Presbyterian Church where she was recognized as a Life Member of the Presbyterian Women. Mrs. Martin was active as a Girl Scout leader for many years as well as a member of the Opti-Mrs. Club.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband, Daniel R. `Doc` Martin; two daughters, Sharon Patterson and her husband, John, of Black Mountain, NC, and Robin Byers and her husband, Jerry, of King, NC; two sons, Danny Martin and his wife, Faye, of Charlotte, and Andy Martin and his wife, Sarah, of Mint Hill; eight grandchildren, Heather and Suzanne Patterson, Jason Byers, Melissa and Daniel Martin, and Jesse, Ransome and Jamie Martin; a sister-in-law, Linda Martin Coppenbarger of Kansas City, Kansas and an aunt, Jessie Alexander.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Women, Plaza Presbyterian Church, 2304 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC 28205 or to the Helen and Doc Martin Endowment for Athletics/Appalachian State University Foundation, c/o Yosef Office, Appalachian State University, Owens Field House, Boone, NC 28608.

Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington Wilson Chapel, 5301 Albemarle Road.

Mitchell, Hynman (Chuck)
Mr. Hynman (Chuck) Mitchell, 50, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2001 at his home after losing his battle with cancer.

Mr. Mitchell was born February 6, 1951 in Charlotte and was a 1970 graduate of Myers Park High School. He was employed by Central Car Care.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; one daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Bryan Harvell of Richfield, NC; one son, Robert Mitchell of the home; a grandson, Patrick Harvell and a granddaughter, Taylor Harvell, both of Richfield, NC; and two sisters, Petty Phillips of Orange, CA and Jane Mitchell of Columbia, SC.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31 in the Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel. Visitation will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Boulevard.

Morse, Jeffrey William
Mr. Jeffrey William Morse, 41, of Charlotte, died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at home. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 28, at Weddington United Methodist Church with the Reverend Bill Fogarty of First Baptist Church of Weddington officiating. His family will receive friends following the service at the Church. Interment will follow later in what he considered his home state, Vermont.

Mr. Morse was born December 31, 1959 in Boston, MA to James H. L. Morse and the late Barbara Morse. He graduated from Turkey Hollow High School in Barniard, VT, and served his country for twenty years, retiring in 1998 as Sergeant First Class in the US Army. He was a member of the 82nd Airbourne Division and had served in Desert Storm He was a dedicated soldier. After his military career ended, he joined F.N. Thompson Construction Company as a Superintendent. Jeff enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing, skiing and hockey. He was a dedicated and loving father and friend.

His survivors include in addition to his father, James Morse of Dillsbury, PA, his children, Julia and Matthew Morse of Weddington; his brothers, James Morse of West Yarmouth, MA, Matthew Morse of Athens OH, and Scott Morse of West Yarmouth, MA; his sister, Susan Morse of Athens, OH, and by his former wife, Unhee Morse of Weddington.

The family requests that memorials may be sent to the Jeffrey W. Morse Band Scholarship Fund, c/o Tom Moncrief, Weddington High School, 4901 Monroe-Weddington Road, Matthews, NC 28104.

Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home.

Price, Hazel Rast
Mrs. Hazel Rast Price, age 90, of Charlotte, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Wesley Care Center. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Sharon Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the Hankins and Whittington Dilworth Chapel. Reverend Charles W. Wilson II will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the memorial service.

Mrs. Price was born June 30, 1911 in Holly Hill, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Jacob Armstrong Rast and Mary Easterling Rast. She was a member of University City United Methodist Church and a Past Worthy Matron, Secretary and Treasurer of the Eastgate Lodge. She had been a resident of the Methodist Home for many years and the family sends a special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for her during her illness.

Survivors include a sister, Mattie R. Burbage of Cayce, South Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wade Hampton Price in 1977.

Memorials may be made to University City United Methodist Church, 6100 West Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28269.

Sietmann, Dean Hardison
Mrs. Dean Hardison Sietmann, age 59, of Stanfield, NC, passed away Monday, March 26, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Sietmann will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 28, 2001 from the Mint Hill Chapel of McEwen funeral service, with the Reverend Thomas Brooks, of Maranatha Church of God, Gastonia, NC, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery on Freedom Drive. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, March 27, 2001, from the hours of 7:00-8:30 PM at the Mint Hill Chapel.

Mrs. Sietmann was born February 28, 1942 in Kinston, NC, daughter of the late Thurman and Sudie Hardison. Mrs. Sietmann was Payroll Manager for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System from 1988 until her retirement in 1994 due to declining health. Prior to this position, she was employed by Thurston Motor Lines, serving in various positions spanning a 23 year service period.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years, John Sietmann, of the home; nieces, Kendra Hardison of Kannapolis, NC, Korie Sietmann, Anna Sietmann, both of Charlotte, Margaret Brown of Shelby, NC, Kimberly Sietmann of Stallings, NC, Amanda Baruth, also of Charlotte; great niece, Danielle Hardison of Kannapolis, NC; nephews, Tony Hardison of the home, Kenneth Hardison, Jr. and wife, Rebekah of Kannapolis, NC, Jimmy Sietmann of Charlotte, Lance Lizitsa of Albuquerque, NM, Lucas Lizitsa of Midland, TX, Roger Baruth, Jr., of Charlotte; and great nephews, Christopher Brown of Shelby, NC, Mitch Edwards and Kemp Edwards, both of Kannapolis, NC; as well as a host of very special friends of which there are too many to name. Dean also leaves behind her animal family which she dearly loved, Thelma, Louise, Lady, Radar, Miss Kitty, Kate, Trouble, Fred, and Mr. T.

Dean was preceded in death by her brother, the Reverend Kenneth L. Hardison, Sr., and stepmother, Francis Hardison.

The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to the staff and nurses of Carolinas Medical Center, sections 5B and 3 Tower, for their compassion and attention given during this difficult time. John would also like to personally express his heartfelt thank you to Dr. Debra Coles, and her nurse assistant, Ms. Sally Karas, for not only their professionalism, but also for their friendship, for which he and Dean are eternally grateful.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in the name of Mrs. Dean H. Sietmann may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mrs. Mary Ella Speaks of 1014 Fontana Avenue, Charlotte, died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Grier funeral service is in charge of the arrangements.

Steele, Richard
Mr. Richard Steele, 75, of Charlotte, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. Arrangements, incomplete at this time, are entrusted to Long & Son Mortuary Service.

Truesdale, Robert Hugh
Robert Hugh Truesdale 56, of Charlotte, died March 26, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service, Charlotte Chapel.

Watwood, Harry L.
Mr. Harry L. Watwood, 89, died March 25, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital.

A service to celebrate the life of Harry L. Watwood will be held at 11 am Wednesday, March 28, 2001 from the graveside of Sunset Memory Gardens, with The Reverend Doctor John B. Earl, II, officiating.

Mr. Watwood was born July 30, 1911 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, a son of the late Harry L. Watwood, Sr., and Minnie Maynard Watwood. He worked as a sales representative with Kendall Mills for more than 45 years. He was an avid golfer and was instrumental in starting the Mecklenburg Junior Golf Association. He was a member of Avondale Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Watwood is survived by his wife, Patricia H. Watwood; three children, Skipper Watwood of Kannapolis, Mrs. Ray McCorkle of Charlotte, and Mrs. Susan Mayberry of Davenport, IA; one sister, Mrs. Jane Volmer of Memphis, TN; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. Mr. Watwood was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Bradford Watwood and sister, Blanche Richardson.

Memorials may be made in remembrance of Harry L. Watwood to Benton Heights Presbyterian Music Fund, 2701 Concord Highway, Monroe, NC 28110, or Avondale Presbyterian Church, 2821 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209, or Jackson Park United Methodist Church, 715 Mable Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083.

Ballard, Jane Mooring
BOONE -- Mrs. Jane Mooring Ballard, 67, died March 26, 2001. Memorial service is 11 am Friday, First Presbyterian Church, Raleigh. Visitation 7-9 pm tonight at her daughter's home, 229 Oak Street. Barney Hampton funeral service in charge.

Cunningham, Gail Gaither
BREVARD -- Gail Gaither Cunningham, 61, of Brevard, N.C. died on Sunday, March 25, 2001, at her home. Born in Sylva, N.C., she was the daughter of the late James C. Gaither, Sr. and Helen Grasty DeBruhl. Gail graduated from Brevard High School in 1957 and attended Central Community College in Charlotte, N.C. She worked for Southern Bell for over 30 years before retiring and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America-Asheville Council. She was a member of the North Carolina Association of Realtors. Gail enjoyed gardening and recently received an Honorary Master Gardener Volunteer award. She like working with her computer and she was a licensed amateur radio operator W4GGC. Gail was a member of the Methodist Church in Indian Trail, N.C. and a member of the Order of The Eastern Star, Mint Hill, N.C.

Gail was the wife of the late James Howard Cunningham and she is survived by her daughter, Kaye Frickhoeffer of Indian Trail, N.C.; her step mother, Addie B. Gaither, of Brevard, N.C.; two brothers, James C. Gaither, Jr. of Marietta, Georgia and Danne H. Gaither of Portland, Oregon; two sisters, Clyda Dare Gaither of Brevard, N.C. and Joyce Ann Belt of Portland, Oregon. She was the proud grandmother of Lisa Gail Frickhoeffer, Elizabeth Kaye Frickhoeffer and Donna W. Frickhoeffer, all of Indian Trail, N.C.

A memorial service will be held at the `Little Cove Baptist Church` on Nicholson Creek Road, in Brevard, N.C. at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 29, 2001, with Reverend Tommy Owen officiating. A Remembrance Fellowship will be held at the church immediately following the Memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TCH-Hospice, c/o TCH Foundation, P.O. Box 2440, Brevard, N.C. 28712, or Tommy Owen Evangelistic Ministries Inc., 766 Cathey's Creek Church Road, Brevard, N.C. 28712.

Moye, Bill
CHESTER -- Mr. Bill Moye, Jr., 49, died March 25 at his home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3 pm Wednesday at West Side Baptist Church, with the Reverend Mark Chapman officiating. Interment will be in Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

A son of Albert William `Bill` Moye, Sr., and Dora Bass Moye, Bill was a member of Parkway Baptist Church. He was Co-Owner of Black Construction Company, and President of Dixie Youth Pony League. He was a baseball coach of the Colt League and past coach of Packer Football. Bill was a graduate of Chester High School and also attended the University of South Carolina.

Bill is survived by his wife Janet McManus Moye; one son, Nick Moye of Chester; his parents, William `Bill`, Sr. and Dora (Bass) Moye of Chester; and one sister, Debra M. Dove of Chester.

Memorials may be made to Westside Baptist Church, PO Box 1049, Chester, SC 29706.

Foster, Edith Durham
COLUMBUS -- Edith Durham Foster, 88, of 475 Peniel Road, Columbus, NC, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at her home. She was the widow of Lonnie Vance Foster, who died in 1972. Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Foster Constance of Tryon, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service on Tuesday in the McFarland Funeral Chapel. The family will be at her home, 475 Peniel Road, Columbus, NC.

Yankech, Michael Robert
CONCORD -- Mr. Michael Robert Yankech, 51, died March 24, 2001 at NorthEast Medical Center.

funeral service is 11 am Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm tonight at Wilkinson Funeral Home.

Mr. Yankech was a son of Mr. Robert Yankech, and worked as a machinery inspector for Royal and Sun Alliance of Charlotte.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Yankech; one son, Matthew Yankech; one daughter, Nicole Yankech; his father, Robert Yankech of Pittsburgh, PA; and one brother, Jeffrey Yankech, of Pittsburgh, PA.
