Robinson, Doris Jean Rollins
ELLENBORO -- Mrs. Doris Jean Rollins Robinson, age 72, died March 25, 2001. A private memorial service will be held. Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ferguson, Sam Lee
GASTONIA -- Mr. Sam Lee Ferguson, 93, formerly of 406 Woodlawn St. died March 25, 2001, at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral is 3 p.m. Tuesday at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia with Rev. Ralph Willis and Mr. Larry Gaddis officiating. Interment will be in Gaston Memorial Park. Visitation is 2-3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ferguson was a native of Lincoln County, son of the late John Wesley Ferguson and Lily Brown Ferguson, husband of the late Viola Gaddis Ferguson. He was a frames tender, retired from Ti-CaroPiedmont Plant in Belmont, and a member of Goshen Freewill Baptist Church.

Mr. Ferguson is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Opal Ferguson of Gastonia; sister, Lottie Ward of Lincolnton; brother, Lloyd Smith of Lincolnton; sister-in-law, Betty Ferguson of Lowell; four grandchildren, Cathy Hager of Stanley, Keith Ferguson of Blairsville, GA, Rhonda Auten of Gastonia, and Kelly Reitzel of Charlotte; five great-grandchildren, Summer and Shane Hager of Stanley, Bryan and Allison Lutz of Gastonia, and Alan Christopher Reitzel of Charlotte.

Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by a son, Roy Ferguson; and two brothers, Edward Cook and Hillard Ferguson.

Pallbearers will be Gary Bell, Christopher Reitzel, Bryan Luta, Greg Auten, Keith Ferguson and Shane Hager.

Honorary pallbearer will be Alan Christopher Reitzel.

Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia is serving the Ferguson family.

Lail, Ruth Ellen
HICKORY -- Ruth Ellen Lail, 73, died Monday, March 26, 2001. Funeral 3pm Wednesday, Wilkies Grove Baptist Church with burial in church cemetery. Visitation 7-8:30pm Tuesday night at the church. Hickory Funeral Home is entrusted with plans.

Poovey, Randy Lee
HICKORY -- Mr. Randy Lee Poovey, age 49, died March 21, 2001. Private Memorial Tuesday, 3/27, 4 PM Hickory Funeral Home Chapel. Burial Fairview Cemetery. Hickory Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Massey, Sue S.
KANNAPOLIS -- Mrs. Sue S. Massey, 83, died Sunday, March 25, 2001. Funeral 2pm Wednesday, Chapel of Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis. Burial West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in charge.

Reese, Dimma Earwood
KANNAPOLIS -- Dimma Earwood Reese, age 78 died March 26, 2001 at NorthEast Med. Center. Funeral Wednesday, 2PM Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation Wednesday, 1-2 PM at the funeral home.

Goodman, Carrie "Alice"
LANDIS -- Carrie "Alice" Goodman, 63, died March 25, 2001. Funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lakewood Baptist Church, Kannapolis. Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home is in charge.

Jerman, Madeline Warner
LAURINBURG -- Mrs. Madeline Warner Jerman, 84, died March 24, 2001. Memorial service Wednesday, 3/28, 1 PM 1st Bapt. Church of Laurinburg. Vstn: 1305 Charles Drive, Laurinburg. McDougald Funeral Home & Crematorium is serving the family.

Aycock, William Dugan
LEXINGTON -- William Dugan Aycock, 92, of Country Club Drive, Lexington, NC, died Friday, March 23, 2001. Funeral services will be held 11am, Tuesday, March 27, at First United Methodist Church. Burial willbe in Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8pm at Piedmont Funeral Home and an hour before the service at the church on Tuesday morning.

Sink, Mabel Ann Turner
LEXINGTON -- Mrs. Mabel Ann Turner Sink, 76, died March 25, 2001. Funeral is 11 am Wednesday, Shiloh United Methodist Church, interment to follow in church cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 pm tonight, Davidson Funeral Home.

Styers, Fred Alfred
LEXINGTON -- Fred Alfred Styers, age 78, died March 24, 2001. There was a Graveside service Monday, at 10 AM, Lexington City Cemetery. Arrangements by Piedmont Funeral Home.

Metcalf, Shirley Ann Cline
MARION -- Shirley Ann Cline Metcalf, 63, of Lakeview Drive, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at McDowell Hospital. Graveside service Wed., Mar. 28, 1 PM McDowell Mem. Pk. Vstn: Tuesday, 7-9 PM Kirksey Funeral Home.

Thompson, Violet Buff
MOORESVILLE -- Mrs. Violet Buff Thompson, 84, died Sunday, March 25, 2001. Funeral 2pm Wednesday, God's Church of Faith, Kannapolis; visitation 7-9 Tuesday night at the church. Lady's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mullinax, Mae Pearl Waters
MORGANTON -- Mrs. Mae Pearl Waters Mullinax, 79, died March 26, 2001 at her home.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at Buffalo Baptist Church in Shelby, with the Reverend Sam Snyder officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Larry Harmon, 2436 S. Lafayette Street, Shelby.

Mrs. Mullinax was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church of Shelby. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doctor Spurge and Mary Jane Ledbetter Waters, as well as three sisters, Katherine Morrison, Ruth Mace, and Virginia Waters.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Thomas L. `Larry` and Ola Harmon of Shelby; one brother, Tommy Waters of Kings Mountain; one sister, Addie Haynes of Shelby; grandchildren, Chris and Anita Harmon, and Mark and Sharon Harmon; as well as five great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church, 108 Buffalo Church Road, Shelby, NC, 28150.

Greene Funeral Home of Gastonia, Westside Chapel, is in charge.

MORGANTON -- DeLanie Barham Winchester, 90, died March 25, 2001. Private committal service, 3 PM Tuesday, Burke Mem. Pk. Mausoleum. Rememberance service 4 pm Grace Ridge mezzanine. Sossoman's assisting the family.

MORVEN -- Mrs. Dequilla Frye Robinson, age 84, died March 20, 2001. Funeral Wednesday, 3/28, 2 PM Womble Chapel AME Zion Church. Burial church cem. Vstn: Tuesday, 1-8 PM Knotts & Wade Funeral Home.

Weaver, Mary Lou Cinda `Lin` Ball
NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mrs. Mary Lou Cinda `Lin` Ball Weaver, age 89, of Middlebourne, WVA., formerly of North Wilkesboro, died Friday, March 23, 2001, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg, WVA. Mrs. Weaver was born July 1, 1911 in Wilkes County, the daughter of the late James Martin and Nancy A. Anderson Ball. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Monroe Weaver, Sr., two brothers, one sister, and stepson Oscar M `Bud` Weaver. Mrs. Weaver was a member of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church in North Wilkesboro and was retired from F. W. Woolworth Company in Charlotte.

Surviving are three sons, Henry M. `Johnny` Weaver, Jr. of Charlotte, George F. Weaver, Sr. of Union, SC, and Harold Wesley Weaver of Cornelius; two daughters, Dessie Snow of Middlebourne, WVA and Betty Rodgers of China Grove; two step-daughters, Ruth Mickler and June Pennell, both of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Wesley Ball and Lonnie Ball, both of North Wilkesboro; three sisters, Nellie Collins of Florida, Bessie Reed of Raleigh and Myrtle Ball of Davidson; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at Miller Funeral Chapel, 180 Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro with Bishop Tim Marlow officiating. Burial will be in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Cemetery. The family will be at Miller funeral service from 6:30 until 8:30 tonight (Tuesday).

Fogarty, John Henry
PINEHURST -- John Henry Fogarty, 81, died Monday, March 26, 2001. At the request of the deceased, no local service will be held. Boles Funeral Home and Crematory of Pinehurst has been entrusted with arrangements.

Hassenplug, H. Fred
ROCK HILL -- Mr. H. Fred Hassenplug, 79, of 835 Lucas Street, Apartment 104, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Piedmont Medical Center. A native of Milton, Pennsylvania, Mr. Hassenplug was son to the late Leon Hassenplug and Ethel Worg Hassenplug.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Thursday, at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, Dr. William Pender officiating. Burial will be private. Visitations will be on Wednesday evening from 7-8pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and following the memorial service.

Mr. Hassenplug retired from Winthrop College in 1985 after serving 19 years as a professor of mathematics. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1945 and served aboard the submarine Pintado during the close of WWII. In 1960 he received his masters degree in mathematics from Purdue University. He was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1318, Frank Roach American Legion Post 34, VFW Post 2889, the Oasis Shrine Club of York County, all in Rock Hill, and Howard Masonic Lodge #93 in Kokomo, Indiana, the Scottish Rites in Charlotte, NC.

Surviving is his wife, Louise R. Hassenplug of the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to York County American Red Cross, 200 Piedmont Boulevard, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Green Funeral Home Northwest Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

SALISBURY -- Mr. Madison Monroe Adams Jr., 68, died March 24, 2001. Graveside service is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Salisbury National Cemetery. Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

Snider, Arnold Holmes
SALISBURY -- Mr. Arnold Holmes Snider, Jr., 89, died Saturday, March 24, 2001. Funeral 2pm Tuesday, at St. John's Lutheran Church with burial at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Summersett Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
