OAKBORO -- Mr. Eugene Clyde Brooks, 63, died March 30, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center. Funeral is 2 pm Sunday, Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. Visitation is 1-2 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home.

Turner, Lucille McGuirt
ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Lucille McGuirt Turner, 77, of 10 Graham Street, died Thursday, March 29, 2001 at her residence. A native of Rock Hill, SC, she was daughter of the late Hugh and Lillian Tinkler McGuirt. Mrs. Turner was of the Baptist faith, a homemaker, and retired from J.P. Stevens Industrial Plant. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Turner.

Mrs. Turner is survived by her brothers Pete McGuirt, Robert McGuirt, Ralph McGuirt and Buck McGuirt, all of Rock Hill; and her sisters, Frances Nunn, Faye Cooper, Rachel Sweat, and Martha Lucas, all of Rock Hill, SC.

A graveside service will be held at 3pm Friday, March 30, 2001, at Grandview Memorial Park, Rev. Larry Nunn officiating.

Miller, Joseph Charles
SALISBURY -- Joseph Charles Miller, 74, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001. Funeral 1pm Tuesday, Moores Chapel AME Zion Church; burial, church cemetery. Visitation Monday 7:30-8:30pm, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, entrusted.

White, Ruby Mae Leverett
SALISBURY -- Ruby Mae Leverett White, 81, died March 27, 2001. Funeral is 1 p.m. Monday at Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church. Visitation is 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home.

Wise, Lonnie James
SALISBURY -- Mr. Lonnie James Wise, 69, died March 30, 2001. funeral service is 4 pm Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church. Visitation is 7-8:30 pm tonight at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home of China Grove.

Patterson, Patsy Jean "Pat"
SHELBY -- Patsy Jean "Pat" Patterson, 63, died March 29, 2001. Graveside service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Cemetery. Clay-Barnette Funeral Home is in charge.

Kimball, Barbara Gibson
STATESVILLE -- Mrs. Barbara Gibson Kimball, 63, died March 29, 2001 at her home. Funeral is 3 pm Sunday, Trinity United Methodist Church, interment in church cemetery. Visitation is 7-8:30 pm tonight at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.

Shaffer, Mary Jean `Jeanie`
TAYLORSVILLE -- Mrs. Mary Jean `Jeanie` Shaffer, age 43, died Thursday, March 29, 2001. Memorial service 7pm Monday, Adams Funeral Home Chapel with visitation following the service. Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wallace, John C.
TROY -- John C. Wallace, 80, of East Main St., Troy, died Thursday, March 29 at Duke Medical Center in Durham.

Funeral is 4 p.m. Sunday, April 1 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Elliott and Rev. Stan Smith officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, with Masonic Graveside Rites conducted by Troy Lodge #718 AF & AM. The family will see friends 6:00 to 8:00 Saturday at Briggs Funeral Home in Troy and other times at the residence on East Main St.

Mr. Wallace was born January 17, 1921 in Montgomery County to Eben R. Wallace and Mollie Allen Wallace. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he had been very active and held many positions. He was the pianist for his Sunday School class. He was a member and past president of Troy Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a graduate of Rutgers University School of Banking. He trained airplane pilots for the Army Air Corp and was a pilot for American Air Lines having flown the first four engine airplane on a commercial flight in the United States. He was an accomplished Helicopter pilot.

He left the airline and returned to Troy to accept a position with the Bank of Montgomery where he worked for 46 years. He was appointed president of the Bank in 1961 when Bank of Montgomery was a 1 office bank with 3 million in assets. He retired as president and CEO in 1993 when the bank had changed it's name to First Bank, had established a holding company and had 26 offices in 8 counties with 240 million in assets. Under his leadership the bank also established Montgomery Data Services and First Recovery. He served as director of the Bank until 1997 when he was appointed Director Emeritus. Because of his vision First Bank today operates in 15 North Carolina Counties with over 1 Billion in Assets. He was a member of the North Carolina Bankers Association and had served as chairman of Group 4.

Mr. Wallace founded Radio Station WJRM in Troy in 1960 and owned and operated the station until 1996. For many years he hosted the "Children's Chatter Corner" on the Radio.

Mr. Wallace was a member of the Troy Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years and served as it's chief for 20 years. He had served several terms as Montgomery County Coroner and as such on two different occasions had to serve as acting Sheriff of Montgomery County due to a vacancy in that position. The Town of Troy honored him in 1992 with a special "John Wallace Day" proclaimed by the mayor of Troy. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tommye S. Wallace and by a brother, Eben Wallace, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Goldie Hancock Wallace of the home; daughters, Susi Norman and husband Bill Norman of Albemarle and Julia Lewis and husband Keith of Wilmington; step-sons, Derek Todd Shea and Kyle Patrick Shea, both of Chapel Hill; three grandchildren, Kellie Hutchinson, Kimberly Melton and Jenni Norman; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Troy Fire Department, 610 N. Main St., Troy, N.C. 27371 or Trinity United Methodist Church Trinity Fund or Music Academy, 239 N. Russell Street, Troy, N.C. 27371.

Baker, Rassie Grisette
VALDESE -- Mrs. Rassie Grisette Baker, 94, formerly of Valdese, died Thursday, March 29, 2001 at Sharon Towers, Charlotte, where she had resided since 1995.

Born June 5, 1906 in Caldwell County, Mrs. Baker was the daughter of the late Julius and Mary Clark Grisette. She graduated from the Lenoir-Rhyne College and taught school in Valdese for many years. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur W. Baker; a brother, Felix A. Grisette; and sisters, Lillian G. Ramsey and Bess G. Geitner.

Survivors include her daughter, Catherine B. Deal and husband, Cliff, of Charlotte; grandchildren, Anna D. Morgan and husband, Robert, of Boca Raton, Fl., Tripp Deal and wife, Kelly, of Charlotte, and Elsie Deal of Charlotte; brothers, Ulysses Grisette of Valdese, J. Grisette of Morganton, and Frank Grisette of Hilton Head, S.C.; sisters, Vivian G. Dashiell of Charlotte and Hattie G. Hocutt of Colorado Springs, Co; great-grandchildren, Catherine and Will Morgan and Sara Caitlyn, Patrick and Julianna Deal.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Baker will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 31, 2001 at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Feild Russell presiding. Memorial Services will follow at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, March 31, 2001 at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends at Waldensian Presbyterian Church following the service.

Memorials may be made to the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Museum, PO Box 216, Valdese, NC 28690 or the Resident's Scholarship Fund at Sharon Towers, 5100 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.

Caldwell, Ida Castle
YORK -- Mrs. Ida Castle Caldwell, 84, died March 26, 2001. Funeral 4 pm today, Langrum Branch Baptist Church; interment, church cemetery. Visitation at the home of her sister, Rev. Mozelle Castle, 8 Center St., York. Wright Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. William `Bill' Kiker
MONROE - Mr. William `Bill' Kiker, age 86, died Saturday, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Mr. Kiker was born December 7, 1914 in Union County, son of the late Sip and Pearl Hargett Kiker. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday at New Testament Baptist Church, Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from seven until nine p.m. Sunday at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Survivors include his wife: Lillian Kiker of the home, three sons, Wade Kiker of Waxhaw, NC, Paul Kiker of Marshville, NC, Jerry Kiker of Monroe, NC, two daughters, Ethel McLain of Waxhaw, NC, Hazel Kiker of Indian Trail, NC, Thirteen grandchildren, Seven great grandchildren, three brothers, Mack Kiker of Midland, NC, Reid Kiker, Marvin Kiker both of Indian Trail, NC, two sisters, Ruby Drake of Midland, NC, Delphia Kiker of Monroe, NC.

McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the family of Mr. Kiker.

Blizzard, George Wallace
George Wallace Blizzard, 76, of Charlotte, died Friday, March 29, 2001 at Brian Center Nursing Care.

Services are private.

Born November 26, 1924 in Hillsboro, GA, Mr. Blizzard was a son of the late George Wilson Blizzard and Nancy Ola Jordan Blizzard. He retired as a Gunnery Sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps after 20 years of service and has lived in Charlotte for the last 40 years.

Survivors included Verna Blizzard of Charlotte; four daughters, Naomi Kyaw and her husband, Tommy of Charlotte, Valerie McSwain of Ahoskie, Melody Van Dyke of Raleigh and Belinda Blizzard of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Tommy Kyaw, Jr., Patrick Kyaw, Jessica Blizzard and Matthew Bailey; a great-granddaughter, Jasmyn Kyaw; and a nephew, Ray Maynard and his wife, Pattie of Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1820 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Arrangements are by the Wilson Chapel of Hankins & Whittington funeral service, 5301 Albemarle Road.

Burton, Dale Aubin
Mr. Dale Aubin Burton, age 57, of Charlotte, died March 30, 2001 at his residence. A memorial service will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church n Indian trail, NC with the Reverend Maurice Hinson officiating. Mr. Burton was born October 15, 1943 in Newport, Vermont son of the late George and Loretta Aubin Burton, was president and CEO of B.G.S. Instrumentation Company and served in the US Navy, submarine service. Surviving are, children, Michael Alan Burton of Brandon, FL, Kimberly Ann Davis of Waxhaw, NC, brother, Edward Burton of Riverview, FL, grandchildren, Joshua, Bethany and Emily.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, 732 Fairview Rd., Indian Trail, NC 28079.

Guinyard, Tena
Mrs. Tena Guinyard, of 6479 Plaza Road, Charlotte, NC died on Friday, March 30, 2001 at Mercy Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Grier funeral service, Charlotte, NC, is in charge.

Hendrix, Larry W.
Mr. Larry W. Hendrix, age 57, of Charlotte, died March 30, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Covenant United Methodist Church with Dr. Larry Kimmel and Reverend Bob Little officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont, NC. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday evening at McEwen Charlotte Chapel. Mr. Hendrix was born November 19, 1943 in Jacksonville, FL son of the late Samuel Moody and Alice Roberta Fowler Hendrix. He was a member of Covenant United MEthodist Church, was a graduate of Northwestern Senior High School in Hyattsville, MD and served in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He was owner/operator of Southern Phot. Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Judy Hendrix; children, Noreen Evans and husband, Lance of Charlotte, Cara Hendrix and fiance, Bobby Morton of Stanley, NC; grandson, Joshua Evans; sisters, Mary Dean of Florida and Elizabeth Hendrix of W. Hyattsville, MD; brothers, Samuel Hendrix of Owensboro, KY, and Kenny Hendrix of W. Hyattsville, MD.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hendrix.

Huber, W. Fredrick
W. Fredrick Huber, age 82, of Charlotte, died March 29, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. He was born May 6, 1918 in Lebanon Pennsylvania, son of the late Crouse and Elsie Schmid Huber.

Mr. Huber is survived by his wife of 58 years Helen Miller Huber, children Sharon A. Meier and husband Carl, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Barbara Whitaker and husband Rod of Los Alamos, NM, and Thomas Frederick Huber and wife Marcia of Hawaii; grandchildren Kris and Cliff Meier, Lisa and Matt Whitaker, Aaron Frederick Huber and Anna L. Huber; brother Robert Huber, AZ and sister Bea Gerth, of Nashville, TN.

Fred obtained his undergraduate degree from Lebanon Valley College, his graduate degree from the University of Cincinnati, and Ph.D in Organic Chemistry, with post doctoral work at the University of Michigan.

Inventer of the antihistamine Benedryl, retried from Sodyco, a division of Martin Marietta, as a Sr. Vice President of Manufacturing.

He was a 50 year Mason, member of Carmel Country Club, the American Chemical Society, Alpha Chi Sigma and Alphia Chi Epsilon Fraternities, Amatuer Radio Club, Who's Who in America in the East, North, and West regions. Enjoyed playing golf and bridge. His greatest enjoyment came from his family, whom he loved dearly.

The Huber family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Harry & Bryant Co. 500 Providence Road. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday April 4, 2001 at Harry & Bryant `Chapel in the Oaks.' Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lebanon Valley College, 101 N. College Ave., Annville, PA.

Johnson, Elizabeth Kendall
Mrs. Elizabeth Kendall Johnson, died Friday, March 30, 2001. Funeral is 11 a.m. Monday at Wesley Care Center Chapel. Vstn is one hour prior to the service at the Care Center. Arrangements are by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service, Mint Hill Chapel.

Joy, Mary Elizabeth Watson
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Watson Joy passed away on Friday, March 30, 2001 at Presbyterian `Main' Hospital after a period of declining health. Mrs. Joy is survived by her husband, Charles Moore Joy; son, Charles D. and wife, Mary; son, Anthony W. and wife, Carrilea; grandchildren, Lauren Joy, David Joy and Joanne Rohan and husband, Tim; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rohan, Timothy Rohan and Catherine Rohan; brothers, James Watson, Robert Watson and Thomas Watson.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. James Young at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.
