Brown, Judson Gilman
SHELBY -- Judson Gilman Brown, 88, of 914 East Marion St. died April 2, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Funeral was 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Rev. Terry Jordan and Rev. Jeff Brendle officiated.

Mr. Brown was a car dealer. He was partner with Brown and Hopper Motors, later known as Brown Motor Sales. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Shelby and B.P.O.E. (Elks) #1709.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Avis Smith Survivors include his son, Douglas G. Brown and wife, Joyce of Shelby; sister, Loree B. Foster of Nashville, TN; and two grandchildren, Douglas G. Brown Jr. and wife, Susan of Shelby, and Susan Brown Monroe and husband, Chris of Shelby.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, PO Box 2391, Shelby, NC 28151-2391.

McKellar, Gordon H.
SOUTHERN PINES -- Gordon H. McKellar, Jr., 40, formerly of Charlotte, died April 2, 2001 in Wilmington.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 6, 2001 at First Baptist Church of Southern Pines. Dr. David Helms will officiate with Powell Funeral Home directing. Graveside Services will follow at 3:00 P.M. at the Alloway Cemetery in Red Springs.

Pallbearers will be Craig Mannings, Ritchie Goforth, Tim Barefoot, Billy Gozzi, Mike Torrence, Mike Deemer and Chuck Shanks.

Mr. McKellar was a graduate of Pinecrest High SChool and East Carolina University and a member of the First Baptist Church of Southern Pines. He enjoyed boating, deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, snow and water skiing, golf and was the captain of a private yacht.

He is survived by his parents, Gordon H. (Boney) McKellar and Peggy A. Roberts McKellar of Southern Pines; one sister, Karen McKellar Manning of Fayetteville; one nephew, Stephen Manning of Fayetteville and one niece, Nicole Manning of Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends Thursday 7-9 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home.

Cates, Thomas Harding
STATESVILLE -- Mr. Thomas Harding Cates, 80, of 105 Miller Rd., died April 4, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Friday at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Suther, John Douglas "Doug"
STATESVILLE -- Mr. John Douglas "Doug" Suther, 84, died April 3, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Friday at Bethel Baptist Church. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. today at Troutman Funeral Home.

Moody, Paul Jay
VILAS -- Mr. Paul Jay Moody, 71, died April 3, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. today at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.

Marlow Gail Issendorf Schepp Spaulding
TAYLORSVILLE - Mrs. Marlow Gail Issendorf Schepp Spaulding, 61, died April 3, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday at Adams Funeral Home. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Batchelor, Peggy Joyce
Miss Peggy Joyce Batchelor, 65, of Davidson, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital. Born January 21, 1936 in Duplin County, she was daughter of the late Walter Raleigh Batchelor and Chellie Henderson Batchelor. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a graduate of Warsaw High School and retired from Western Electric where she worked for many years in the Greensboro and Winston Salem facilities for many years.

Survivors include her brother; W.R. Batchelor of Atando, FL; sister, Mrs. Fronnie B. Brinkley of Charlotte; step-sister, Mrs. Patsy K. Marshburn of Kinston, NC; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends. In addition to her parents, her step-father, E. Ray King, nephew, Lloyd C. Brinkley, Jr. and niece, Donna Lynn Batchelor preceded her in death. All who knew her will Miss Peggy.

A funeral service was Friday, April 6, 2001 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mooresville, NC with Bishop David Olsen conducting the service. Interment will be 2:00 pm Saturday in the Devotional Gardens Cemetery in Warsaw, NC. Receiving of friends will be 7:00 to 8:30 pm Thursday at Raymer Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble Street, Davidson, NC 28036.

Raymer Funeral Home is serving the family of Miss Batchelor.

Carter, Tommie
Mrs. Tommie Carter, 62, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001. Funeral 1pm Saturday, Bethel AME Zion Church, Mint Hill; visitation begins at 12:30pm Burial at Forest Lawn East, Matthews. Long & Son Mortuary Service entrusted with plans.

Clark, Mildred Ann
Mrs. Mildred Ann Clark, 83, of Charlotte, NC, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, April 9, 2001 from the sanctuary of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church with Father Francis P. Gillespie, S.J., Celebrant and Father Joe Zuschmdt assisting. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park, Harrisburg, NC. The Clark family will greet friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the McEwen Derita Chapel.

Johnson, Evelyn L.
Mrs. Evelyn L. Johnson, 87, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001. Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date. Carolina Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with plans.

Keistler, Edward Morrison
Mr. Edward Morrison Keistler, Jr., age 84, of Charlotte, died April 5, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital.

Funeral Services will be at 12:00 Noon Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church with Reverend T.J. Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will follow the service at the church.

Mr. Keistler was born June 13, 1916 in Mecklenburg County, son of the late Edward Morrison Keistler, Sr. and Clara Dunn Keistler. He was a member of Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and had served as a Deacon. He was a graduate of the class of 1934 Paw Creek High School, had been associated with Parks Cramer 43 years, was a member of the Pinoca Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Board of Directors. He was a member of the Carolina Travel and Trailer Club and enjoyed camping and traveling and meeting new friends.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Marie Frick Keistler; daughter, Sheila Gibson and husband, Tim of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren, Shellie and Tracey Gibson; brothers, Roland Keistler and James G. Keistler and wife, Dolores, all of Charlotte.

He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Morrison Keistler, III.

Pallbearers will be: Johnny Keistler, Jimmy Keistler, Phil Schroeder, Roland Keistler, Jr., Milburn Leonard, and Gene Leonard. Honorary pallbearers will be the Joy Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3413 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Rd., Charlotte, NC 28216.

Lindsay, Gaye Severs
Mrs. Gaye Severs Lindsay passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 4, 2001 at home.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Bob Jack will be officiating.

Mrs. Lindsay was born on January 16th, 1940, in Charlotte, to the late John Wilson and Alpretta Saxe Severs. She resided and attended school in Charlotte, graduating from Harding High School in 1958. After finishing high school she married her high school sweetheart, and their love has been an inspiration to all they meet.

Mrs. Lindsay was employed with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System as a crossing guard, cashier and most recently as a receptionist at Garinger High School. At Garinger she was a member of the C.M.A.E.O.P. where she served as membership chairman and High School Director.

She attended Plaza United Methodist Church for most of her life and served as President of the United Methodist Women and Chairperson of Council on Ministries. She was also active in the choir and youth program. Later she attended First United Methodist Church and continued her love of music singing in the church choir. She just recently became a member at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church where her parents attended church and where she attended early morning services for quite some time.

Mrs. Lindsay was also an active member of the Camelettes of the Red Fez Shrine Club of which she was a past president.

Survivors include her husband of 42 plus years, Johnny Lee Lindsay, Sr.; children, son, Johnny Lee Lindsay Jr. and wife Cindy of Huntersville, daughter, Neena Lindsay Hudson and husband Eddie of Fort Mill, son, Jeffrey William Lindsay and wife Teri of Charlotte, son, Joel Wilson Lindsay and daughter, Margaret Janine Lindsay. Grandchildren, Jessica Craven Lindsay, Mitchell Edward Hudson, Miranda Lindsay Hudson, Megan Christine Hudson, and Maisie Erin Hudson. Brother, John Wilson (Jack) Severs and wife Claudia. She was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick George Severs.

Words cannot express the numerous contributions she made to all of our lives. She will be remembered always as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 6, 2001 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hankins & Whittington, Wilson Chapel, 5301 Albemarle Rd. Charlotte.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to Garinger High School, for the "Gaye Lindsay Scholarship Fund", 1100 Eastway Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28205 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are by the Wilson Chapel of Hankins & Whittington funeral service.

Malone, Robert Allen
Robert Allen Malone, age 60, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at his daughter's home in Toquerville, Utah after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Jonesborough, TN, August 27, 1940, to the late Fred Hughes Malone, Sr. and Mable Cade Malone.

Bob moved to Charlotte, NC in 1963, with his former wife, Edith Wilson, where he worked at Piedmont Natural Gas until his retirement in 1990. After his retirement, he moved to Utah where he met his current wife, Carol Parr Malone. Bob will be remembered for his willingness to help others. He was the perfect good Samaritan. He loved to travel and ride his Honda Gold Wing.

Along with a host of friends, he is survived by his wife, Carol McCullough Parr Malone of Delta, Ut; daughters, Lisa (O.C.) Van Valkenburg of Toquerville, UT, Missy (Rick) Turbyfill, Charlotte, NC, and Daphney Tench of Gastonia, NC; step-children, Chris Stewart of St. George, Craig (Tracie) Stewart of Toquerville, Candee (Sean) Brownson of Hurricane, UT, and Cathi (Kris) Kooyman of Delta, UT; grandchildren, Adam, Angel and Aaron Van Valkenburg of Toquerville, and Patrick and DeAnna Turbyfill of Charlotte; step-grandchildren, Chailee and Chelsie Parr and Chandler Lambros of Hurricane and Christi Kooyman of Delta; his mother, Mable Cade Malone of Jonesborough, TN; sister, Marilyn A. Cole of Charlotte; and brothers, David Malone, Fred H. Malone, Jr. and Mike Malone, all of TN. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Hughes Malone, Sr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Toquerville LDS Ward Chapel. A viewing will be held Friday, April 6, from 7-8 p.m. at Salisbury & Beard Mortuary in Hurricane, Utah. Also, Saturday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the church. Interment will be in the Toquerville Cemetery. Additional memorial services will beheld at a later date in Jonesborough, TN.

Melton, Edward
Mr. Edward Melton, 42, of 1877 McAllister Dr. died April 4, 2001. Arrangements are incomplete. Charlotte Mortuary is in charge.

Osborne, Margaret
Mrs. Margaret Osborne, 74, died Monday, April 2, 2001. Funeral 1pm Saturday, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with visitation beginning at noon; burial Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens. Grier funeral service is entrusted.

Sanders, Mary Lee
Mrs. Mary Lee Sanders, 66, died April 4, 2001. Arrangements are incomplete. Long & Son Mortuary is in charge.

Swinson, Mary Lois
Mary Lois Swinson, 82, of Charlotte and formerly of Hendersonville, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital.

She was born July 31, 1918 in Blythewood, SC to the late Walter James and Eula Mae Etheridge Ballentine, and had retired from Phillips Petroleum.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beulah United Methodist Church, Highway 321, Blythewood, SC. The family will receive friends following the service.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Swinson was preceded in death by two brothers, Chaplain Wayne Ballentine and Lawton Ballentine.

She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Simmons and husband, T.L. of Mint Hill; grandsons, Lee Simmons of Kannapolis; granddaughter, Sharon Matthews; great-grandsons, Ryan and Chase Matthews, all of Northport, FL; sister, Gladys Smith of Spartanburg, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Martha Ballentine of Blythewood, SC, Ruth Cheek of Durham, and Lois Swinson of Vienna, VA.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of The Parc at Sharon Amity for their love, care and concern.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, MAA Memorial Processing Center, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.

Tobin, Elizabeth Clarke
Mrs. Elizabeth Clarke Tobin, 90, of Charlotte, died Sunday, April 1, 2001. Services will be 2pm Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Evergreen City Cemetery. Arrangements by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service, Pineville Chapel.

Whiteman, David Gilbert
David Gilbert Whiteman, 60, of Charlotte died April 3, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews.

He was born March 16, 1941 in Geneva, NY. Mr. Whiteman was a former resident of Parsipnee, NJ and had lived in Charlotte for six years. He was previously employed with AT&T; in financial management and for the past four years had worked for Best Buy in Charlotte.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Survivors include his sons, Richard of Richmond, VA and Robert of Walnut Creek, CA; and former wife, Catherine Hill of Durham.

Carolina Funeral & Cremation is entrusted with arrangements.
