His brother George Gardner has also passed away. The family includes his brother, Bob Gardner and his wife, Barbara of Wolfeboro, NH; sister, Ruth Bruno and her husband, Pat of West Haven, CT; sister-in-law, Ethel Gardner of Milford, CT; nieces, Patricia Adelizzi and her husband, Joe of Crisfield, MD, Jean Holland and her husband, Dan of Killingworth, CT, and Donna Bruno of West Haven, CT; great-nieces and nephew, Rose Adelizzi, Alex and Jessica Holland. When Ingles Markets bought the Asheville Sealtest plant in 1982, Ralph "retired" to head it as Milkco Dairy.

Under his leadership production and distribution increased dramatically, but he was most proud and grateful for the close-knit employees, who are also actively involved in several areas of community outreach.
