KINGS MOUNTAIN -- Mary Johnson McCarter, age 71, resident of 502 S. Cansler St., died March 4, 2001 at her home.

She was a native of Johnson City, TN and wife of the late Glenn "Sput" McCarter. She was a homemaker.

Graveside Service is 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Bethany ARP Church, Clover, SC, with Rev. Bruce Davis officiating.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

LEXINGTON -- Charlie Hughes Tester, Sr., 77, died Thursday, April 5, 2001. Graveside service 4pm Saturday, Forest Hill Memorial Park; visitation 3-4 Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home, to whom arrangements are entrusted.

Pruitt, Elvenia Self
LINCOLNTON -- Elvenia Self Pruitt, 85, of 1912 N. Aspin St., died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Lincoln Medical Center, Lincolnton.

Cunningham, Cleveland Frank
MONROE -- Mr. Cleveland Frank Cunningham, 90, died Thursday, April 5, 2001. Funeral is 2 PM Saturday at Langford Chapel CME Church. Burialin Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.

Griffin, Clara Austin
MONROE -- Mrs. Clara Austin Griffin, 84, of Monroe, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Gordon funeral service.

Wynn, Marilyn Leak
MONROE -- Mrs. Marilyn Leak Wynn, age 54 of Monroe, NC died Monday, April 2, 2001 at her residence. Mrs. Wynn was born in Mecklenburg County, NC. Her employer was the Department of Transportation in Monroe.

The Funeral will be Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 2:30 PM, Clarksville A.M.E.Z. Church, Monroe, with the Reverend Zack Little officiating. The burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 7 to 8 PM at Grier's Chapel, Monroe.

Survivors are: sons: Calvin Wynn of Las Vegas, NV, Corey Wynn, Monroe, NC; daughter, Ms. Ida Wynn, Monroe; mother, Mrs. Aileen Leaks, Monroe, NC; brother, Charles Leaks, Monroe, NC and 5 grandchildren.

Gobble, `Lanny` Loranzo Lee
MOORESVILLE -- Mr. `Lanny` Loranzo Lee Gobble, age 57, of 285 Clearfield Drive, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at his home. Services 3pm Saturday, Whitley's Funeral Home; visitation 7-8:30 pm Friday at Whitley's, entrusted with plans.

Thomas, Edward
MORGANTON -- Mr. Edward Thomas died March 27, 2001. Funeral is 4 p.m. Friday at Ebony funeral service. Visitation is 3:30-3:55 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Currie, Daisy Byrd
MOUNT GILEAD -- Mrs. Daisy Byrd Currie, 85, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 in Windsor House Nursing Home in Rockingham.

She was born in Richmond County May 19, 1915, a daughter of the late John Robert and Daisy Byrd Jarrell.

Mrs. Currie was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mt. Gilead and was retired from Sox, Inc. in Mt. Gilead with 31 years of service.

Services for Mrs. Currie will be 11:00am, Saturday, April 7, 2001 by the graveside in Hebron Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Lawrence Lugar officiating.

The family will greet friends at the home, 6625 Grassy Island Road, at anytime on Friday.

Mrs. Currie was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Currie in 1962 and is survived by her sons, Bobby Currie and John Currie, both of Mt. Gilead and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, P.O. Box 2136, Rockingham, NC 28380.

The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro.

Aldridge, Cecil
NEW LONDON -- Mr. Cecil Aldridge, 90, of 44339 Highway 740, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Funeral is 4 p.m. Friday at Mt. Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Joe Helms officiating. Burial will in the church cemetery.

Born on December 23, 1910 in Norwood, Stanly County, NC, Mr. Aldridge was the son of the late Effie Jeanette Turner Aldridge and Martin Luther Aldridge, and husband of the late Annie Marie Whitley Aldridge. He was a retired Doffer with Wiscassett Mills and a member of Mt. Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Surviving are his daughters, Kay A. Russell of Chesterfield, SC, and Evelyn A. Holmes of New London, NC; brother, Burns "Bunk" Aldridge of Norwood, NC; sister, Ousia A. Lee of Albemarle, NC; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of Evelyn A. Holmes, a daughter, 44339 Highway 740, New London, NC.

Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle is serving the family of Mr. Aldridge.

Redfern, Ms. Velma
NEWARK, N.J. -- Ms. Velma Redfern of Newark, NJ died Wednesday, April 4, 2001. Arrangements are incomplete at this time and are entrusted to Grier funeral service of Monroe.

Davis, Robert Lee "Pop"
ROCK HILL -- Mr. Robert Lee "Pop" Davis, 70, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001. Funeral will be 11am Saturday at Wright Funeral Home Chapel in York. Visitation 5-7pm Friday at Wright Funeral Home.

Hill, Faye Read
ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Faye Read Hill, 69, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Piedmont Medical Center.

Memorial Service is 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dr. Thomas W. Horton officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church parlor.

Born in Appalachia, VA to the late Tom and Vennie Skeen, she was an active member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church and a member of the Women Circle 6. She was a 1953 graduate of University of Tennessee and was a social worker with child and family services in Knoxville, TN for 20 years. She was active in the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) and for HOPE House.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her first husband, Austin Read of Knoxville, TN.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Y. Hill of Rock Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom & Margo Read of Knoxville, TN and J. Michael & Melissa Read of San Diego, CA; one step-daughter, Candace H. Cleary of Lawrenceburg, KY; one aunt, Reba Skeen of Big Stone Gap, VA; one cousin, Dave Kaylor of Appalachia, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hope, Inc., PO Box 774, Rock Hill, SC 29731 or Hospice Community, Inc., 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Sanders, Minister Nancy Worth
ROCK HILL -- Minister Nancy Worth Sanders of Saluda Road, died Monday, April 2, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC. The daughter of the late Lila Land Worthy and the late Willie D. Worth, she was born in Chester County, SC and attended the public schools of Chester and graduated from Finely High School in 1960. She joined Red Hill Baptist Church at an early age and later joined Cedar Grove Baptist Church where she served as associate Minister, usher, member of the Missionary Society and a member of the A.P. & B. Society, member of the Sunday School, Bible Study, and attended the Bible Study at Nazareth Baptist.

The family will receive friends from the home of Mr. Crawford Sanders, 4315 Saluda Road, the home of Dennis Sanders, 4323 Saluda Road, and the home of Robert Sanders, 4124 Overlook Road.

Funeral services will be conducted 2pm Saturday, April 7, from Cedar Grove Baptist Church with the pastor W.W. Thompson officiating, assisted by Roosevelt Adams and Roslyn Wilson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Survivors are husband, Crawford Sanders of the home; sons Robert (Jaquetta) Sanders and Dennis (Barbara) Sanders, both of Rock Hill; step-mother Ruby M. Worthy of Columbia, SC; God-gather and uncle Girza `Gus` Worthy of Roselle, NJ; brother John (Bertha) Worthy of Elizabeth, NJ; sisters, Bessie Worthy of Chester, Lillie Smith and Mary (Joseph) Wilson of Elizabeth, NJ; brothers-in-law Hampton (Hazel) Sanders of Greensboro, NC and William (Addie) Sanders of Charlotte; sister-in-law Maggie Manson of Charlotte; uncles Charlie Worthy of Roselle, NJ, and Willie Wright of Columbia, SC; aunt Bertha Frederick of Chester; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be Friday, April 6, 2001 from 1pm until 9pm. The body will lie in state Saturday, April 7, 2001 from 1pm until the hour of service.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted with Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road in Chester, South Carolina.

Wilson, William Frank
ROCK HILL -- Mr. William Frank Wilson, 78, passed away April 4, 2001 at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral is 2 pm today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, with the Reverend Rick Sturgis officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park.

Born March 26, 1923 in Timmonsville, Mr. Wilson was the son of the late Robert Stroman Wilson and Jeddie Mae Mims Wilson. He was the widower of Corda Kessinger Wilson.

Mr. Wilson sold welding supplies and he played baseball for the Palmetto League. He was an outdoorsman and an avid bird hunter. He was a member of the Rock Hill Rescue Squad and the Bethesda Fire Department for more than 20 years. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Lida Wilson and Almetta Wilson, both of Florence; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, R. E. Wilson, Fred Wilson, Ralph Wilson and Archie Wilson.

Memorials may be mae to the Bethesda Fire Department, 1705 Highway 324, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel is serving the family of Mr. Wilson.
