Waters, Ollie `O.J.` James
HUDSON -- Rev. Ollie `O.J.` James Waters died Thursday, April 5, 2001. Funeral 3pm Sunday with visitation beginning at 2, Pendry's Funeral Home. Burial at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Pendry's Funeral Home is in charge of plans.

Chandler, Wade Sherman
LENOIR -- Wade Sherman Chandler, 72, died April 4, 2001. Memorial Service is 5 p.m. Sunday at Pendry's Funeral Home. Visitation is 4-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Roper, Virgie Correll
LENOIR -- Virgie Correll Roper, 95, died April 5, 2001. Graveside Service is 4 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home is in charge.

Charlie H. Tester
LEXINGTON -- Charlie H. Tester Sr., 77, died April 5, 2001. Graveside service is 4 p.m. Saturday at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation is 3-4 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home.

Thompson, James Clark
LEXINGTON -- James Clark Thompson, 86, died Friday, April 6, 2001. Funeral 3pm Sunday, Piedmont Funeral Home, to whom arrangements entrusted.

Pruitt, Elvenia Self
LINCOLNTON -- Elvenia Self Pruitt, 85, of Brian Center, formerly of Ballard St., Cherryville, died April 5, 2001.

Funeral is 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Capps Memorial Missionary Methodist Church, Cherryville with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw and Rev. Keith Love officiating. Burial will be in North Brook Church Cemetery, Cherryville.

Mrs. Pruitt was born in Cleveland County. She was a homemaker and the wife of the late Avery George Pruitt Sr. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Oats; a brother, Lester Self; and a sister, Etta Upton. She was a member of Capps Memorial Missionary Methodist Church, Cherryville.

Survivors include her sons, Ralph Pruitt of Hickory, Troy Pruitt of Waco and Avery Pruitt Jr. of Lincolnton; a brother, Clarence Self of Waco; two sisters, Stella Hoyle of Lincolnton and Eva Self of Cherryville; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Carpenter's Funeral Home, Cherryville is in charge.

Hartman, James Roger
MAIDEN -- Mr. James Roger Hartman, age 51 of 6208 Startown Road in Maiden died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Catawba Memorial Hospital.

His funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Cranford officiating. Burial will follow in South River Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm Saturday prior to the service at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Hartman was born on March 20, 1950 in Lincoln County. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Ridley Hartman. Mr. Hartman worked in the textile industry.

Survivors include: father, James "Whitey" Robert Hartman of Lincolnton, NC; special friend, Vivian McRee of Maiden, NC; one son, John Chris Hartman of Cherryville, NC; two brothers, O.C. Beaver of Lincolnton, NC, Mike Hartman of Vale, NC; three sisters, Sibyil Williamson of Alex, NC, Joan Brooks and Myra Hartman of Lincolnton, NC.

Cunningham, Cleveland Frank
MONROE -- Cleveland Frank Cunningham, 90, of Monroe, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Union Regional Medical Center.

Funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Langford Chapel CME Church, Monroe, with Dr. J.F. Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. today at the church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Minnie Cunningham of Monroe; daughters, Mrs. Frankie Logan of Marshville, NC and Mrs. Mildred Baker of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Herman Cunningham of Monroe and Coleman Cunningham of Charlotte, NC; and sisters, Mrs. Hazel Hicks of Monroe, Ms. Ruby Cunningham of Hamlet, NC and Ms. Geneva Cunningham of Waxhaw, NC.

Griffin, Clara Austin
MONROE -- Mrs. Clara Austin Griffin, 84, of Monroe, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center. A Union County native, she was born May 3, 1916, daughter of the late James Brady and Fronnie Hinson Austin. She was retired from Union Regional Medical Center as a switchboard operator.

Funeral services will be 2pm Sunday, April 8, 2001 in the Gordon Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Joseph Larrimore. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.

Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her husband, Graham V. Griffin, son Curtis P. Griffin, and grandson Christopher D. Martin. Surviving are her son Bobby H. Griffin and daughter Doris G. Martin, both of Monroe; sisters Ruth A. Brooks, Elsie A. Hinson and Lonie A. Harvell, all of Concord; and granddaughters Gina E. Griffin, Ginger G. Brainard and Heather Kay Martin.

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216, or a charity of the donor's choice.

The Griffin family will receive guests Saturday evening from 6 until 8 pm at Gordon funeral service Monroe.

Redfearn, Ms. Velma Lee
MONROE -- Ms. Velma Lee Redfearn, 73, of Monroe, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at her home.

Funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001 at Watts Grove Baptist Church, Monroe, with Rev. Donald Robinson, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. today at Grier's Chapel, Monroe.

Surviving are her son, John Redfearn of Charlotte; daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Broadbelt of Plainsfield, NJ; sisters, Mrs. Marce Morrow and Mrs. Ocie Covington, both of Monroe, and Ms. Selma Redfearn of Indian Trail; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Smith, Grace Jeanette Hoke
MOUNT HOLLY -- Grace Jeanette Hoke Smith of Third St. died April 5, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

She was a native of Lincoln County and daughter of the late Earl Preston & Grace Saunders Hoke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Blair Finly Smith, Sr.; 2 brothers, Howard & Joe Hoke; 2 sisters, Nell Ballard & Billie Lawing.

She was retired from textiles and was a Founding Member of Grace Baptist Church, Mt. Holly.

She is survived by a son, Blair F. Smith, Jr. of Charlotte; a daughter, L. Joy Smith of Gibsonville, NC; a grandson, Jeremy Cavin of Greensboro, NC; 2 brothers, Elliot "Doc" Hoke of Davidson, NC and Thurman Hoke of Stanley; 2 sisters, Sue Painter of Lincolnton and Earlene Canipe of Virginia Beach, Va.

Services will be conducted by the Revs. Jerry Stanfield and Dale Painter 3 p.m. Sunday at Grace Baptist Church with the burial to follow in Hillcrest Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday night from 7-9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 300 Westland Farm Rd., Mt. Holly, NC 28120.

Carothers Funeral Home in Mt. Holly is serving the family.

Hurlocker, Ronald W. (Ronnie)
MT. PLEASANT -- Ronald W. (Ronnie) Hurlocker, 57, died Thursday, April 5, 2001. Funeral 2pm Sunday, United Methodist Church with burial in church cemetery. Visitation 7-9pm Saturday night, Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

Preslar, Edna Lee Smith
NORWOOD -- Mrs. Edna Lee Smith Preslar, 83, of 41994 Loop Rd. died April 5, 2001, at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Tony Allen and mr. Jimmy Eudy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Preslar was born April 3, 1918 in Stanly County, daughter of the late Jason C. and Nannie Lee Blalock Smith. She was retired from Cassie Cotillion and a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by a son, T.C. Preslar.

Survivors include her son, Mr. lee S. Preslar of Albemarle; daughters, Sybil Mabry and Gail Tucker, both of Albemarle; brothers, Baxter Smith, Haywood Smith and Victor Smith, all of Norwood; sister, Maybelle Howell of Ansonville; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Edwards Funeral Home is in charge.

Anderson, Ralph Camdton
PAGELAND -- Mr. Ralph Camdton Anderson, 58, of Pageland, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Union Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home. His family will receive friends Monday evening from 7-8:3O PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 11 AM Wednesday at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.

Mr. Anderson was born April 24, 1942 to the late Francis W. and Florence Anderson. Ralph was a retired bus driver for Greyhound and worked at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Pageland. He loved airplanes and working on his home and cars. He was a loving father whose warm smile will be long remembered.

His survivors include his children, Kimberly M. Andrascik of Binghamton, NY, Develyn Giles of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Ralph C. `Kirch` Anderson, Jr. of Indian Trail, Scott Patrick Anderson of Los Angeles, CA, and Martin F. Anderson of Tullahoma TN; brothers Francis Anderson and wife, Barbara of Lynn, MA, and Roy Anderson and wife, Donna, of Johnson City, NY; and 10 grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials in their father's memory may be made to the Wal-Mart Children's Miracle Network, c/o Steven Austin, 100 West Dove Sutton Road, Pageland, SC 29728.

Arrangements for the Anderson family are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home.
