BETHEL -- Thomas Jenkins, 64, died Thursday, April 17, 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Conetoe Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Walter Adkins officiating.
Burial will follow in Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by brothers, Tony Pettaway of Las Vegas, Nev. and Johnny Pettaway of Methuan, Mass.; sisters, Rosella Jackson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Claretha Bynum of Methuen, Mass., Fannie Mae Lee of Greenville, Jeanette Pettaway of Brooklyn, N.Y., Rosemary Pettaway of the home and Mittie Cobb of Tarboro.
Visitation will be held from 7 - 8 p.m. Friday at Hemby-Willoughby Mortuary.

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Sarah Jane Veals, 84, formally of Rocky Mount, died April 18, 2003.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Red Budd Holy Church with Bishop F.C. Barnes officiating.
Burial will follow at Gardens of Gethsemane.
Visitation will be held from 2 - 8 p.m. Friday in the Funeral Home Chapel.

Vivian Gail Williams, 53, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Edgecombe Memorial Park with Rev. Julian Thompson officiating.
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela W. Harris of Tarboro; sons, George Allen Williams and David Lee Williams, both of Tarboro, George T. Williams and Glenn Stacey Williams, both of Manteo; sisters, Kathy Walker of Red Oak and Jackie Mitchell of Tarboro; brothers, Wayne Tucker and Felix Tucker, both of Tarboro and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 - 9 p.m. Thursday at Carlisle Funeral Home.

FOUNTAIN -- Effie Foreman, 72, died Monday, June 10, 2002.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by Hemby-Willoughby Funeral Home, Fountain.
ANNIE MAE E. PEADEN
FOUNTAIN -- Annie Mae Edwards Peaden, 95, died Monday, June 10, 2002 in Heritage Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday from the Church Street Chapel of the Farmville Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Sherrod officiating. Interment will follow in the Peaden Family Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Wooten and Annie Lee Joyner, both of Fountain; two sons, Dalton Peaden of Fountain, and Donald Peaden of Greenville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Farmville Funeral Home tonight and other times at the home of Deborah Pegram.

CARL R. DAWSON
Carl Ray Dawson of Wilmington, N.C. died Saturday, June 1, 2002, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Nash County, N.C on February 2, 1928, the son of the late Eric L. and Mamie Warren Dawson. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Derek van der Meyden.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Lorraine Carpenter Dawson; three sons, Carl Ray Dawson Jr. and wife Lou of Raleigh, N.C., Daniel Earl Dawson and wife Beth and Perry Bradford Dawson and wife Jo both of Wilmington, N.C. ; two daughters, Robin Ann van der Meyden and husband Henk of Albemarle, N.C. and Betty Lynn Holder of Reidsville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Dawson, Lauren Dawson, Bradford Dawson, Will Dawson, Ashley Holder, Carl Holder, Eric van der Meyden, and Rachel van der Meyden; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Sykes of Rocky Mount, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Dawson of Williamsburg, Va.; and a number of cousins including Linwood McCullen of Rocky Mount, N.C.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Ernest T. Thompson III.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, in Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount, N.C.
The family will receive friends following the service in First Presbyterian Church.

ROY W. MCHONE
Roy William McHone, 81, died Friday, May 31, 2002.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Monday, June 3 in the Skyline Memorial Gardens in Mt. Airy.
McHone was a WW II Veteran serving in the Army Air Corp. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1979 after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Mecie Badgett McHone; a son, Steven Larry McHone of Tarboro; grandchildren, John Steven McHone and Mary Susan McHone, both of Tarboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

ROBERT BROWN TAYLOR
Robert Brown Taylor, a resident of Friends Homes West in Greensboro, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at the age of 94. A native of Tarboro, N.C., he was born July 25, 1907. He graduated in 1928 from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a B.S. degree in Commerce. He was also a 1957 graduate of the Executive Program at UNC Chapel Hill. Immediately following graduation in 1928, he moved to Greensboro and became associated with Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company, now Jefferson-Pilot. He received the Chartered Life Underwriters designation in 1944. He retired from Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company in 1970 following 42 years of service.
At the time of his retirement, he was Senior Vice President of Agency Operations and a member of the company's Board of Directors. He was an active member of the Life Insurance Agency Management Association, and the Life Insurance Advertisers Association, serving as President in 1950-51. The Association is involved in the field of advertising, sales promotion, and public relations within the life insurance industry.
He was a member of West Market Street United Methodist Church and the Men's Fellowship Class. He was also an honorary member of the Administrative Board of the church. He had served on the Board of Trustees of the Evergreen Nursing Home and had been a volunteer with Mobile Meals.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Broughton Taylor (1998), his daughter Frances Taylor Boone (1986), and his grandson Robert Brown Taylor III (1996). Surviving are his son Robert Brown Taylor Jr. and daughter-in-law Rebecca Walters Taylor of Greensboro, son-in-law Hoyt W. Boone of Greensboro; grandchildren David Dawson Taylor and Jay Winfield Boone of Greensboro, Joseph Walters Taylor of Charlotte, Mary Broughton Boone of Florida, and great-grandchildren Morgan, Rebecca and Tasha Boone, all of Greensboro.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at West Market Street United Methodist Church. Friends were received at the church immediately following the service.
