WILLIAM J. SESSOMS

William John Sessoms died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Heritage Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Hemby-Willoughby Chapel, Tarboro with Rev. Cornell Joyner officiating. Burial will follow in Dancy Memorial Cemetery in Princeville.

He is survived by a son, Wilbur E. Knight of Tarboro; two daughters, Verna Cooper of Tarboro and Barbara Brewer of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hemby Willoughby Mortuary.

KENNETH R. WEBB

MACCLESFIELD -- Kenneth Ray Webb, 58, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Macclesfield Cemetery.

He is survived by brothers, Marshall Wayne Webb of Macclesfield and Billy Webb of Columbus, Miss.

The family will receive friends from 7 - 9 p.m. Saturday at Carlisle Funeral Home and other times at the home of Marshall Webb, 301 Eason St., Macclesfield.

MILLIE M.G. BAINES

ROCKY MOUNT -- Millie Marie Ganey Baines died March 31, 2004. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

MARY McKENZIE

PRINCEVILLE -- Mary McKenzie, 44, died today.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hemby-Willoughby Mortuary, Tarboro.

FRANKIE A.C.B. PHILLIPS

ROCKY MOUNT -- Frankie Arlene Cottle Booker Phillips, 93, died Thursday, April 1, 2004.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Baptist Church, Rose Hill.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior at Rose Hill Church.

HILDA F. ALDERMAN

RALEIGH - Hilda Ford Alderman, resident of Springmoor Retirement community, formerly of Tarboro, passed away Sunday night, May 30, 2004 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Before her move to Raleigh, she was a long time resident of Grantsboro, where she was a proud and dedicated member of Bayboro United Methodist Church. Her accomplishments were many but one she was particularly proud of was her role as secretary/treasurer of the local chapter of the American Cancer Society for 25 years.

Mrs. Alderman was the wife of the late Pete Alderman and the daughter of the late Nathan Dennis Ford and Lillie Mae Curry. Growing up in the south, she developed a love of gardening, cooking, embroidery and needlepoint. She leaves behind many beautiful hand made treasures, including elaborate Christmas stockings that will be enjoyed by her family for many years. She is survived by her son, Ray S. Alderman of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her daughter, Dr. Sabra A. McNeil and her husband, Jim of Raleigh; her grandchildren, Bruce Dilworth, Marshall Drez, Emily Alderman and Paul Woodard II; and her great-grandchildren, Austin Drez and Ford Dilworth.

Her family will miss so many wonderful things about her, but in particular, her great sense of humor, sweet, soft kisses, and her loving spirit.

In lieu of flowers, Hilda requested contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, designated for the Pamilco County Chapter, at 930-B Wellness Dr., Greenville, N.C. 27834 or toll free 1-800-227-2345.

Funeral arrangements include family visitation from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, June 5 at Bryant Funeral Home in Alliance, and a memorial service celebrating her life at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 6 at the funeral home, performed by Rev. Phyllis Mayo, Chaplain at Springmoor Retirement Community. A private family graveside service will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park in New Bern.

Condolence may be sent to the daughter at 1015 Blenheim Dr., Raleigh, N. C. 27612.

ANNETTE W. BROWN

ROCKY MOUNT - Annette Whitley Brown, 66, died Thursday.

Brown is survived by her husband of 47 years, Thurman Brown; daughters, Belinda Ann Brown of Tarboro and Peggy Lynn Moore of Williamston; sons, Eddie Dean Brown of Greenville, Carlton Ray Brown of Rocky Mount and Freddy Gene Scott of Williamston; sisters, Margaret W. Robertson of Tarboro, Donnie W. Martin of Virginia Beach, Va.; brothers, Clayton Ray Whitley Jr. of Scotland Neck and Grover Whitley Jr. of Jacksonville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carlisle Funeral Home, Tarboro.

BILLY R. BULLOCK

Billy Ray Bullock, 48, died June 2, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Conetoe Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery.

Bullock is survived by his wife, Gloria Miller Bullock of the home; two daughters, Sharon Bandy and Leigh Youlanda Bullock, both of Rocky Mount; two sons, Billy Ray Bullock Jr. and Samuel Lorenzon Bullock, both of Rocky Mount; four sisters, Emma Stancil of Philadelphia, Pa., Elizabeth Black and Elizabeth Bandy, both of Tarboro and Joey Shield of Rocky Mount; seven brothers, Estee Bullock Jr. of Baltimore Md., James Bandy, David Dancy and Frank Bullock, all of Tarboro; James Everett Bullock of Whitakers, Sidney Bullock and George Bullock, both of Rocky Mount; two stepchildren, Kenneth Miller of Savannah, Ga. and Latasha Wilkins of Tarboro and six grandchildren.

A wake will be held from 7-8 p.m. tonight at Dickens Funeral Service, Tarboro.

CASSANDRA PITTMAN

CONETOE - Cassandra Pittman, 44, died Wednesday.

LEAH K. T. WHITMER

NASHVILLE - Leah K. Tressler Whitmer, 93, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Nash Grove Manner.

CAROL C. CORDLE

Mrs. Carol Couric Cordle died Aug. 11, 2004 at Heritage Hospital in Tarboro. She was born Nov. 25, 1937 in Charlotte, N.C., the daughter of Marie Shackleford Couric and the late Charles Maturon Couric.

She graduated from North Carolina Women's College (UNCG) in 1959. Mrs. Cordle was very active in the community. She was a long-standing member and president of the Liberal Arts Club. She served as president of both the Board of Directors of the Edgecombe County Library and the Edgecombe Chapter of the N.C. Symphony. She was an active member of the Edgecombe County Arts Council, and was a long time volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

Mrs. Cordle was a member of Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and was a life-long member of the choir. In 1999, she received the Life Membership Award from the Women of the Church.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Thomas Llewellin Cordle, Jr.; three daughters, Ellen Cordle Underwood and her husband Lee of Charlotte, N.C.; Elizabeth (Betsy) Anne Cordle of Raleigh, N.C.; Catherine Marie Cordle of Charlotte, N.C.; and one granddaughter, Anna Caroline Underwood. She is also survived by her mother, Marie S. Couric of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Charles M. Couric and his wife Karen of Moraga Calif.; and one sister, Sarah C. Dorset and her husband Michael of Cleveland, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, Tarboro, N.C. with Rev. Christopher H. Edmonston officiating. The family will receive friends at Carlisle Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the music ministry at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, 303 E. St. James Street, Tarboro, N.C. 27886.
