ARLINGTON, Va. – The funeral for Margaret R. Bost, who died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, will be conducted at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, in Fort Myer Chapel. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
Mrs. Bost was the wife of the late John W. Bost.
Surviving is a sister, Ida P. Humphries.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, Jan. 14, at The Murphy Funeral Home of Arlington.
Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House at Fairfax Hospital.

Vertie M. Jackson
The funeral for Vertie Moore Jackson, 93, of 833 Younger Rd., who died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, in Person Memorial Hospital’s extended care unit, will be conducted at 3 p.m., Monday, Jan. 14, in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church by the Rev. Grayce O’Neill. Burial will be in Burchwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Jackson was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Joseph Gilbert and Hattie Cora Williams Moore. Her late husband was the Rev. William Henry Ross Jackson.
She was a 1930 graduate of Duke University.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
She was treasurer of the Diocese of North Carolina Woman’s Auxiliary from 1956 to 1959, a member of North Carolina Diocesan Council from 1959 to 1962 and 1964 to 1967. She was president of the Diocese of North Carolina Episcopal Church Women from 1964 to 1967. She was secretary of Missions for the Episcopal Church Women and served as a delegate to national and diocesan conventions.
She was a member and served as past president in the Garden Study Club of Roxboro, a member and past president of the Roxboro Council of Garden Clubs. She was a life member of the Garden Club of North Carolina and a member of the Roxboro Research Club.
Surviving are two sons, Harry R. Jackson of Hickory and William Moore Jackson of Tryon; a brother, Lawrence Moore of Roxboro; a sister, Emily M. Stonbraker of Roxboro; five grandchildren, Brian Jackson, Elizabeth Jackson, Michael Jackson, Sara Jackson-Buff and Jessica Jackson; and three great-grandchildren, Billy Jackson, Emma Jackson and Colin Jackson.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 13, at Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Carl Stonbraker, John Wade, Bob Wade, Joe Moore, Terry Allen and Glenn Stovall.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1071, Roxboro, NC 27573.

Alice R. Harris
The funeral for Alice Sue Reaves Harris, 65, of 363 Hawthorne Dr., who died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, in her home following an extended illness, will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, Jan. 12, in the Roxboro Church of God by the Rev. J. Harold Palmer and the Rev. Tommy Roberston. Burial will be in Person Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Harris was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Luke and Laura Lowery Reaves.
A homemaker, she attended the Roxboro Church of God.
Surviving are two daughters, Jenny D. Mendoza and Shirley D. Dondiego, both of Roxboro; two sons, Clint Dixon and David B. Vicks, both of Roxboro; three sisters, Lula R. Mitchell, Nancy R. Leonard and Edna R. Turner, all of Roxboro; four brothers, Elder Reaves, Doug Reaves, W.H. Reaves and Junior Reaves, all of Roxboro; five grandchildren, Jessica Dixon, James Clint Dixon Jr., Juan Miguel Dixon, Maria Christina Dondiego and Anna Marie Vicks; and three great-grandchildren, Jaden Blackard, Angel Vicks and Cecilia Domingo.
Pallbearers will be Billy Edwards, Frankie Gentry, Jimmy Stewart, David Whitfield, Thomas Weaver, David Pennebaker, Derek Cifers and Jimmy Dew.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 620 West Morgan St., Raleigh, NC 27603.
Arrangements are by Strickland’s Funeral Home.

Carey J. Long
Carey J. (Tad) Long, 61, of 3805 Bowman Town Rd., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral arrangements by Brooks & White Funeral Home were incomplete Friday evening.

Dorsey M. Crenshaw
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. – The funeral for Dorsey Major Crenshaw, 83, of 715 Travor Ave., South Boston, Va., who died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002 ,in Halifax Regional Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in Mountain Road Baptist Church in South Boston by the Rev. Andy Patterson. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Crenshaw was a native of Halifax County, Va., the son of the late Major and Ruth Osborne Crenshaw.
He was retired from JPS, where he was a supervisor.
He was a member of Mountain Road Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Alice R. Crenshaw; a daughter, Dottie Foushee of Roxboro; two sons, Gregory Crenshaw of Pinehurst and Mark Crenshaw of Halifax, Va.; five sisters, Kathryn Satterfield of Halifax, Va. and Becky Conway, Mary Crenshaw, Millie Rodia and Nancy Duffie, all of South Boston; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Mountain Road Baptist Church in South Boston.

Henry R. Dunkley
The funeral for Henry Randolph Dunkley, 75, of 503 Jefferson Dr., who died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, in Durham Regional Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. James Boyd. Burial will be in Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Dunkley was a native of Person County, the son of the late Charlie Henry Dunkley and Maggie Brandon Dunkley.
He was a salesman with Lance for most of his adult life.
A veteran, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a member of the Junior Order and the Olive Hill Hunt Club and the Hyco Hunt Club.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Bradsher Dunkley; three sons, Henry Randolph (Randy) Dunkley Jr. of Hurdle Mills, Johnny Clyde Dunkley of Roxboro and Danny Floyd Dunkley of Mebane; a daughter, Zandy Dunkley King of Mebane; two brothers, Bruce Eugene Dunkley of Columbia, S. C. and Ellis S. Dunkley of Roxboro; and two sisters, Elizabeth D. Williams and Louise D. Clayton, both of Roxboro.

Carey J. Long
The funeral for Carey J. (Tad) Long, 61, of 3805 Bowmantown Rd., who died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, in Duke University Medical Center, was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Buddy Hall. Burial was in the Olive Branch Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Long was a native of Person County, the son of Christine Long of Roxboro, who survives, and the late Joe David Long. His late daughter was Melissa Mae Long.
He attended Triple Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Teresa Oakley Long; four children, Carey Todd Long of Timberlake, Traci Lynn Long and Stephen Gregory Long, both of Roxboro and Rebecca Long of Halifax, Va.; a sister, Lois L. Dunkley of Roxboro; and two grandchildren, Carey Brent Long and Amber Faith Long.
Pallbearers were Charlie Oakley, Charles Albright, Joe Long, Carey B. Long, Johnny Tillman, Wendell Wilborn and Scott Campbell.

Patsy S. Mize
OXFORD – The funeral for Patsy Lane Stephenson Mize, 66, of Oxford, who died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, in her home following an extended illness, will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, in Enon Baptist Church in Oxford.
Mrs. Mize was a native of Johnston County, the daughter of the late James Robert and Irene Coats Stephenson.
She was a member of Enon Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir.
Surviving are her husband, Lenward Tyree Mize Jr.; three sons, Robert Lane Mize of Oxford, Lindsay Lee Mize of Roxboro and Lenward Tyree Mize III of Florence, S.C.; four sisters, Isabel S. Coats of Clayton, Virginia S. Rich of Garner, Evelyn S. Coats of Angier and Maggie S. Creech of Havelock; five grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m., today, Jan. 16, at Gentry, Newell and Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford.

Carrie R. Tatum
HILLSBOROUGH – A memorial funeral for Carrie Riley Tatum, 87, of the Efland-Cedar Grove Community, who died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, was conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 14, in the Church of God in Hillsborough by the Rev. James Boyd and the Rev. Dale Fuquay. Burial was in Efland United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Tatum was a native of Person County. Her late husband was Charlie Tatum.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna Clapp; five sons, Linwood (Lindy) Tatum, Sydney (Skip) Tatum, Thomas (Butch) Tatum, Michael (Mickey) Tatum and Bobby Tatum; a brother, Thomas Riley of Roxboro; a sister, Gladys Tate of Roxboro; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Louie Tatum, Skeeter Tatum, Brian Tatum, Cody Tatum, Rodney Clapp and Ricky Cherry.

Margaret Y. Trent
DURHAM – A memorial service for Margaret Yarborough Trent, 80, of 2223 Elmwood Dr., Durham, who died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, in Duke University Medical Center in Durham, will be conducted at 11 a.m., today, Jan. 16, in First Baptist Church in Durham by Dr. Andrew Davis.
Mrs. Trent was a native of Person County. Her late husband was James W. Trent.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School class and the choir.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas H. Trent of Durham and Dr. James W. Trent Jr. of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, W. Clayton Yarborough of Burlington; and two granddaughters, Mary S. Trent and Rachel E. Trent.
Pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be in the church parlor immediately following the service.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 414 Cleveland St., Durham, NC 27701.
Arrangements are by Howerton-Bryan Funeral Home in Durham.

Catharine B. Anderson
PROSPECT HILL – The funeral for Catharine B. Anderson, 84, of 1540 N. C. 49, who died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in UNC Hospitals, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 20, in Lea Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas C. Elliott. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Anderson was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Cleve and Allie Wilson Briggs. Her late husband was Ernest Ray Anderson.
She was the oldest member of Lea Bethel Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Shelby A. Oakley of Cedar Grove and Betty Lou A. Long of Prospect Hill; a son, Jerry Ray Anderson of Yanceyville; three sisters, Bertha B. Simmons of High Point, Everlene Olive Aldridge of Burlington and Ruthie B. Irby of Prospect Hill; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., today, Jan. 19, at Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Stevie Long, Stacey Long, Joel Oakley, Gerald Cates, Jimmy Dodson, Paul Wilkerson, George Daniel and Brad Cates.
Memorials may be made to Lea Bethel Baptist Church, 1820 Ridgeville Rd., Prospect Hill, NC 27314 or to Alamance/Caswell Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.

Rufus Bowen
The funeral for Rufus Bowen, 83, of 2807 Moore’s Mill Rd., who died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in Durham Regional Hospital, will be conducted at 11 a.m., today, Jan. 19, in Red Mountain Baptist Church by the Rev. Seth Polk and the Rev. Otis Hooks. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bowen was a native of Person County, the son of the late Gattis Nichols and Sula Huff Bowen.
He was a retired farmer.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Red Mountain Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie Humphries Bowen; a son, Rufus Wayne Bowen of Rougemont; four daughters, Juanita B. Mill of Balsam, Kathy B. Chambers of Sharon, S.C.; Judy B. Dorsey and Joann B. Stone, both of Rougemont; two sisters, Blanche B. McBroom and Ola B. Robertson, both of Durham; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Huff, Wayne Mangum, Steven Mangum, Nick Bowen, Darien Chambers and Ryan Morrow. A.C. Russell, Bill McFarland, Wilson Creabtree, Edgar S. Toms and Dr. William V. Lorimer will be honorary pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to Red Mountain Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 103, Rougemont, NC 27572.

Virginia D. Campbell
KANNAPOLIS – The funeral for Virginia Davis Campbell, 73, of 1368 Amanda Dr., who died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in Northeast Medical Center in Concord, will be conducted at 11 a.m., today, Jan. 19, in Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton by the Rev. Jimmy Tatum. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery.
Mrs. Campbell was a native of Robeson County, the daughter of the late George and Effer Davis. Her late husband was James W. Campbell. Her late sons were Bobby Ray and James Donald Campbell.
She was a retired textile worker.
Surviving are four sons, Tommy Campbell of Kannapolis, Ecil Campbell of China Graove, Stephen T. Campbell of Badin and Kenneth Lewis of Lumberton; five daughters, Clydia Ann Whitley and Bobbie Biggerstaff, both of Kannapolis; Betty Jean Long of Roxboro, Vicky Campbell of Landis and Penny L. Rhodes of Lumberton; a brother, Rudolph Lewis of Lumberton; a sister, Libby Taylor of Lumberton; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Floyd Mortuary and Crematory Inc. of Lumberton.

Jennie L. Clayton
The funeral for Jennie Frances Long Clayton, 92, of 419 Ellen St., who died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, in her home, was conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, in Grace United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ross Thompson, the Rev. Barry Chambers and the Rev. Philip Pennington. Burial was in Person Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Clayton was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Moses and Ellen Cozart Long. Her late husband was Jim Robert Clayton. Her late daughter was Janelle Clayton Clark.
She was retired from the former Roxboro Cotton Mill.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church having joined in 1949. She was a member of the choir and helped with Vacation Bible School.
Surviving are two sons, James (Jimmy) Clayton and Jerry Clayton, both of Roxboro; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mike Clayton, Tony Cole, Ricky Hargis, Kenneth Hicks, Harry Hodges, Andy Riley, John Stone and Greg Wheeler. James Allen, Dan Clayton, Prince Graves and Randolph Holt were honorary pallbearers.

Wayne T. Hunley
EDEN – A memorial funeral for Wayne Thomas Hunley, 57, of 213 Dunn St., who died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, in Morehead Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 11 a.m., today,in Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Mr. Hunley was a native of Person County.
He was employed with The Parts Place for 13 years.
Surviving are his wife, Cathy Price Hunley; a sister, Lois H. Oliver of Roxboro; three brothers, Mike Hunley of Yanceyville, Don Hunley of Rock Hill, S.C. and Duke Hunley of Statesville.
Arrangements are by Fair Funeral Home.

Brad Hunt
BOONE – A memorial service for Brad Hunt, 38, of Boone, who died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2001, while scuba diving in the Pacific Ocean near Cocos Island, off the coast of Costa Rica, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Boone.
Mr. Hunt was a native of Person County, the son of Adrian L. Hunt of Roxboro, who survives, and the late Geneva Leonard Hunt.
He was a 1981 graduate of Person Senior High School and attended Appalachian State University. He had lived in Boone for 22 years.
He was manager of The Peddlar Steak House in Boone.
He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Boone.
Surviving, in addition to his father, are two sisters, Bonnie H. Davis of Roxboro and Judy H. Gourley of Goldsboro; two brothers, Gary W. Hunt of Dallas, Texas and Rick Hunt of Roxboro; four nieces and nephews, Drew H. Davis of Oxford, Leigh P. Davis of Roxboro, Stephen Gourley and Mary Frances Gourley, both of Goldsboro.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, in the Roxboro Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Memorials may be made to the Roxboro Baptist Church Forward by Faith Building Fund.
