Gertrude W. Hightower
The funeral for Gertrude Warren Willis Hightower, 73, of 851 Semora Rd., who died Friday, May, 31, 2002, at White Oak Manor in Burlington, will be conducted Monday, June 3, in Longhurst United Methodist Church by the Rev. Shannon Owens Ross. Burial will be in Union United Methodist Church cemetery in Leasburg.
Mrs. Hightower was a native of Caswell County, the daughter of the late John Baptist and Maude Briggs Willis. Her late husband was James Lawrence Hightower.
She was a member of Longhurst United Methodist Church were she had been the church treasurer for a number of years, a member of the United Methodist Women and also helped with the flower and tape ministry for shut-ins.
Surviving are three brothers, Clyde Willis of Leasburg, John D. Willis of Yanceyville and Cleo Willis of Danville, Va.; and three sisters, Ruby Murray of Yanceyville, Dorothy Willis of Goldston and Susie Kirby of Mebane.
Pallbearers will be William Willis, John Kirby, Ronnie Willis, John Wesley Willis, Chris Willis, Daniel Flack, Ron Willis and Stephen Willis.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, June 2, at Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Longhurst UMC, 291 Providence Rd., Roxboro, NC 27573.

Maxie M. Johnson
The funeral for Maxie Mitchell Johnson, 83, of 1035 Ridge Rd., who died Friday, May 31, 2002, at her home, will be conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 2, in Cavel Baptist Church by the Rev. John Haskett. Burial will be in Person Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson was a native of Wake County, the daughter of the late Etta Wagstaff and John W. Mitchell.
She was a member of Cavel Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Norman Arthur Johnson; and a sister, Onie Mitchell Garrett of Roxboro.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., today, June 1, at Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be deacons of Cavel Baptist Church – Paul Stewart, Reams Clayton, Harold Oakley, Hilton Hawkins, Howard Smith, Raymond Smith, Frank Shotwell, and Franklin Edwards.
Memorials may be made to Cavel Baptist Church, 1885 North Main St., Roxboro, NC 27573.

David T. Long
A memorial service for David Thomas Long, 75, of 314 S. Main St., who died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Person Memorial Hospital was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, at Roxboro Baptist Church by the Rev. DuPre Sanders. Burial was in Person Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Long was a native of Trempealeau County, Wis., the son of the late Dr. David Thomas and Anna Newton Long.
He was retired from Consolidated Freightways in Menlo Park, Calif.
He received two degrees from the University of Minnesota.
He attended Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene Lockwood Long; two sons, Allen Long of Redding, Calif. and Gary Long of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Richard Long of Menomonie, Wis.; and two grandchildren, Justin Long and Jacob Long.
Memorials may be made to Roxboro Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 328, Roxboro, NC 27573 or to the American Cancer Society, Person Co. Unit, P.O. Box 165, Roxboro, NC 27573.

Albert K. Morris
VIRGILINA, Va. – The funeral for Albert Kenneth Morris, 78, of 3236 Wilson Rd., Virgilina, Va., who died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Halifax Regional Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 2, in Union United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Virgilina Cemetery.
Mr. Morris was a native of Halifax County, Va., the son of the late Willie Osborne and Bessie Tuck Morris. His late brothers were Thomas Morris, Woodrow Morris, Junior O. Morris and David Morris.
He was a retired supervisor of Collins & Aikman Corp. and a farmer.
He was a U. S. Army veteran.
He was a member of Union United Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and was a former member of the board of directors.
Surviving are his wife, Lula W. Morris; a son, Waverly L. Morris of Virgilina; three brothers, Henry Morris, Gerald Morris and Franklin Morris, all of Virgilina; and two sisters, Beatrice Buchanan of Clarksville, Va. and Barbara Holt of Cluster Springs, Va..
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., today, June 1, at Brooks Funeral Home in South Boston, Va. and at other times at the home, 3236 Wilson Rd., Virgilina, Va.
Memorials may be made to the Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department.

George Russell
The funeral for George Russell, 53, who died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, Md. following a brief illness, was conducted at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 31, in Daughn Green Funeral Chapel in Baltimore. Burial was in the Veterans Cemetery in Baltimore.
Mr. Russell was a native of Person County, the son of Annie Mae Russell of Roxboro, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a daughter, Tomeka Russell of Baltimore; three sisters, Bertha Williams of Durham, Clarice Turner and Deborah Russell, both of Roxboro; four brothers, James Russell of Baltimore, Jake Russell of Rock Hill, S. C., Kenneth Russell and Jeffery Russell, both of Roxboro; and a grandson.

Nannie E. Weaver
The funeral for Nannie Evans Weaver, 81, of 1638 Surl-Mt. Tirzah Red, who died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. L. L.. Watlington. Burial will be in the Surl Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Weaver was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Jim and Vallie Lunsford Evans.
She was member of Flat River Primitive Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Joe Weaver; two sons, William Weaver of Roxboro and Alfred (Buck) Weaver of Timberlake; two daughters, Louise Carver and Joyce Lunsford, both of Roxboro; a sister, Mary Evans of Roxboro; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Perkins, Brent Talley, Dewey Duncan, Bobby Bryson, Tommy Bowen and Bobby Brann.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Blondenia C. Clayton
The funeral for Blondenia C. Clayton, 47, of 1415 Jackson St., who died Monday, March 31, 2003, in Person Memorial Hospital, was conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, April 4, in Cedar Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Jesse Timberlake and the Rev. Dwight Wilkerson. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Clayton was a native of Person County, the daughter of Donnell and Frankie Clayton, both of Roxboro, who survive.
She was a 1973 graduate of Person Senior High School and a 1977 graduate of Fayetteville State University.
She was a teacher with the Person County School System for 25 years.
She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Earl Clayton; a son, Lavon Wilbon Clayton of the home; a brother, Donnell Clayton Jr. of Durham; and her maternal grandmother, Clara Clayton of Roxboro.
Arrangements are by Cunningham & Nelson Funeral Home.

Clifton Brown
The funeral for Clifton (Joe) Brown of 916 Allie Clay Rd., who died Wednesday, April 2, 2203, in Veterans Administrative Medical Center, will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 6, in Cedar Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Jessie Timberlake. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Sadie Mae Royster Brown; four sons, Larry D. Brown of Maryland, James B. Brown of Virginia, Ricky K. Brown and Clifton A. Brown, both of Roxboro; six sisters, Maggie Jennings, Valerie Hounshell, Regina Duke and Yvonne Duke, all of Maryland, Earnestine Duke of New York and Susan Hester of Charlotte; a brother, Anthony Duke of Maryland; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Hester, Whitted & Day Funeral Service.

William F. Evans
The funeral for William Forest Evans, 84, formerly of 1539 Pine Ridge Dr., who died Wednesday morning, April 2, 2003, in Roxboro Nursing Center, was conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, April 4, in Theresa Baptist Church by the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Evans was a native of Person County, the son of the late Willie B. and Elia Chandler Evans.
He was retired from Crown Aluminum.
He was a member of Theresa Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Sallie Wrenn Evans; a son, William F. Evans Jr. of Roxboro; three sisters, Cara E. Martin and Louise E. Pugh, both of Roxboro and Betty E. Waters of Hillsborough; three grandchildren, Tammy E. Harris and Mark Evans, both of Roxboro and Wendy E. Bowes of Alton, Va.; and six great-grandchildren, Ashley Harris, Casey Harris, Morgan Harris, Kaley Evans, Kaleb Evans and Emily Bowes.
Pallbearers were Mark Evans, Andy Harris, Phillip Bowes, Billy Taylor, Bobby Taylor and Dayton Evans.

John T. King
The funeral for John T. King, 67, who died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Roxboro Nursing Center, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, April 6, in Zion Christian Center by the Rev. Danny Johnson.
Mr. King was a native of Person County.
Surviving are three brothers, Mack Arthur King, Alvin King, and Malcolm King, all of Baltimore, Md.
Visitation will be today, April 5, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Cunningham & Nelson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Kechal Bass, 4066 Virgilina Rd., Roxboro.

Lillian P. Lunsford
The funeral for Lillian P. Lunsford of 221 South St., who died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in her home following a brief illness, will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, April 5, in Cleggs Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Marcus Vann. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Lunsford was a member of Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Burnette Lunsford of Roxboro; a granddaughter, Elaine Lawson of Roxboro; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Booker Funeral Home.

Mary E. Brinn
HENDERSON - A graveside funeral for Mary Elliott Brinn, 67, formerly of Hertford, who died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, in the Senior Citizens Home in Henderson, was conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 29, in Cedar Wood Cemetery.
Ms. Brinn was a native of Norfolk, Va., the daughter of the late Mary Glasson and Dr. Thomas Preston Brinn.
She was a receptionist for her father's medical practice in the late 1960s.
She was a member of Hertford United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Marjorie B. Clayton and husband Jerry M. Clayton of Roxboro; Anne B. Tucker and husband W. Beverly Tucker of Henderson; three nieces, Kelly C. Smith, Megan T. Adkins and Blair T. Tate; and four nephews, T.P. Brinn Clayton, Jerry M. Clayton II, W. Beverly Tucker Jr. and Preston M. Tucker; and five great-nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Odelle B. Oliver
The funeral for Odelle Bowes Oliver, 85, formerly of Oliver Loop Rd. and the Cantebury House, who died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, in Roxboro Nursing Center, was conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, May 30, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Herman Chambers. Burial was in Person Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Oliver was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Franklin and Lillian Briggs Bowes. Her late husband was Ernest Robert Oliver.
She was retired from Roxboro Manufacturing Co.
She was a Baptist.
Surviving are several nephews and nieces including, James Bernard Bowes, Wayne Bowes, Kathleen B. Duncan, Linda Ann Duncan, Gerald (Nick) Fox and Faye Dean Oliver, all of Roxboro.
Pallbearers were Paul Painter, Nick Fox, David Duncan, George Henderson Jr., Donald Oliver, Jimmy Brooks and Kelly Pulliam.

Aaihsha L. Pimpong
The funeral for Aaihsha L. Pimpong, nine-month-old daughter of Harriett Pimpong and William Reed, both of Durham, who died Saturday, May 24, 2003, in Newark, N.J., will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., today, May 31, in Hester-Whitted & Daye Funeral Home chapel by Dr. James A. Richmond. Burial will be in Peace Memorial Garden in Roxboro.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her paternal and maternal grandparents.

Earl T. Vaughan
The funeral for Earl Thomas Vaughan, 52, of 118 Snipes Rd., Hurdle Mills, who died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, in Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, May 31, in Mt. Tirzah United Methodist Church by the Rev. Debbie Grossberg. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Vaughan was a native of Person County, the son Roy Lee Vaughan of Hurdle Mills, who survives, and the late Maxine Painter Vaughn.
He was a self-employed carpenter.
He was a member of Mt. Tirzah United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his father are two daughters, Tanya V. Pulliam of Roxboro and Barbara V. Tuck of Timberlake; three brothers, Danny Vaughn of Roxboro, Charlie Vaughn of Timberlake and Mickey Vaughn of Graham; a sister, Bobbie V. Walker of Roxboro; and three grandchildren, Stephen Scott Yarborough, Haley Leann Pulliam and David Mitchell Tuck.
Pallbearers will be Mike Pulliam, Hester Lunsford, Chris Mooney, William Coleman, Mark Coates, Donnie Lee Hamlett, Mike Walker, Ken Vaughn and Gary Vaughn.
Arrangements are by Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Ann M. Warren
The funeral for Ann Moore, Warren, 72, of 207 Academy St., who died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, in her home, will be conducted at 11 a.m., today, May 31, in Roxboro Baptist Church by the Rev. DuPre Sanders. Burial will be in the Hester Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Warren was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late William Kelly and Nancy Franklin Moore. Her late husband was William Algernon Warren.
She was a graduate of Averett College in 1951 and King's Business College in 1952.
She worked at Alamance Community College, then returned to Roxboro in 1981.
Surviving are a son, William Algernon Warren Jr. of Roxboro; a daughter, Mitzi Warren Sherwood of Roxboro; and four grandchildren, William Algernon Warren IV, Nancy Nichole Warren, Victoria Lynne Warren and Anna Elizabeth Cook Warren.

Mabel B. C. Hall
The funeral for Mabel Buchanan Chambers Hall, 94, of 640 Hillhaven Terr., who died on Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at her home, was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 20, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Martin Hall. Burial was in Person Memorial Cemetery.
She was a native of Roxboro, the daughter of the late James Robert and Nannie David Buchanan. Her late husbands were Leonnie Lixley Chambers and Robert Edward Hall. She was the mother of the late Nannie Mozelle Chambers and Jane Chambers Duncan. And she was the sister of the late Fred P. Buchanan, Lena M. Buchanan, Pauline B. Westbrook, Lois B. Tilley, and J. Talmadge Buchanan.
After moving from Person County in 1942, she returned in 1947 to work at Longhurst School as manager of the cafeteria, at Four Acre Warehouse, at Hump's Grill, and at Mabel's Mobile Home Park for 15 years.
In 1954, she opened Mabel's Grill on the Durham Road, where she worked for the next 25 years, retiring in 1979 at the age of 71. Since 1979, she had been a homemaker.
She was a member of Rock Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Billy I. Chambers of Timberlake and the Rev. Nelson Chambers of Roxboro; two daughters, Beatrice C. Stapleton of the home and Danville, Va. and Adelaide C. Wilson of Timberlake; a sister, Doris Williamson of Severna Park, Md.; 12 grandchildren, Tommy Thaxton, Sonny Hughes, Jo Ellen H. White, David Hughes, Shelby C. Filyaw, Sharon C. Roberts, Sheila C. Walls, Allison B. Hudgins, Pam B. Easter, Bonita B. Long, Mark Chambers and Ray Bullock; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ray Bullock, Ralph Chambers, Wilbert Clayton, Vic Poole, Tommy Brandon, Dan Featherston, Paige Snow and Bubba Garrett.
