William H. Harris Jr.
The funeral for William Haywood Harris Jr., 86, of 135 Leb Oakley Rd., who died Thursday evening, June 19, 2003, in his home following an extended illness, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, in Mill Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Tommy Robertson and the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will be in the Regan Family Cemetery on Barnette Tingen Road.
Mr. Harris was a native of Person County, the son of the late William Haywood and Elizabeth Link Harris. He was the father of the late Hannah H. Braswell and Portia A. Harris and the brother of the late Lucy Harris and Robert Harris.
A retired tobacco farmer, he was formerly employed with Collins & Aikman Corp.
He was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Gravitte Harris; three sons, Robert Harris of Seattle, Wash., Jimmy Harris and Emmett Harris, both of Roxboro; three daughters, Montie H. Dunn and Elizabeth H. Buchanan, both of Roxboro, and Katie H. Shotwell of Alton, Va.; 16 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will b Eddie Cox, Earl Davis, Donald (Skeeter) Ford, Frankie Gentry, John Guill and Tom Thaxton. S. P. Gentry and Cecil Pixley will be honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 o'clock tonight, June 21, at Strickland Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Montie H. Dunn, 105 Leb Dunkley Rd.

Lillian C. Roller
CLOVER, Va. - The funeral for Lillian Conner Roller, 74, of 8125 Mt. Laurel Rd., Clover, Va., who died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, Va., will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, June 21, in Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Don Pizzeck. Burial will be in Clover Cemetery.
Mrs. Roller was a native of Halifax County, Va., the daughter of the late Charlie Whitfield and Elender Ligon Conner. She was the sister of the late Gladys Austin, Curtis Conner, Clarence Conner and Ernest Conner.
She was a member of Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church, where she was a founding member of the Riley Circle.
Surviving are her husband, Edward Herman Roller; six sons, Edward Herman (Butch) Roller Jr. of Richmond, Va., Ronnie Lee Roller, Dennis Keith Roller and Kevin Wayne Roller, all of Clover, and Bobby Roller and Larry Dean Roller, both of Scottsburg; three sisters, Mildred Rickman of Clover ad Wynette Nichols and Elizabeth Wilborn, both of South Boston; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to The Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Home, P. O. Box 1398, Brookneal, Va. 24528.

Elizabeth W. Allen
SUGARLAND, Texas – The funeral for Elizabeth (Betty) Watson Allen, 78, formerly of Roxboro, who died Thursday, June 19, 2003, in her home in Sugarland, Texas, will be conducted at 11 a.m., today, June 25, in St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Va.
Mrs. Allen was a native of Caswell County, the daughter of the late Hurley and Mollie Cates Walker Watson. Her late husbands were Thomas Mautisiak and William Allen.
Surviving are three sons, James Mautisiak and Michael Mautisiak, both of Portsmouth, and Tommy Mautisiak of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Frances M. Magellon of Sugarland, and Kathryn M. Neathery of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Clyde Watson of Roxboro; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

Joseph V. Carico
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The funeral for Joseph Vernon Carico, 75, who died Friday, June 20, 2003, in his home in Tallahassee, Fla., was conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, June 23, in The Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Knollkreg Memorial Park, Abingdon, Va., by the Rev. Frank Preston.
Mr. Carico was a former resident of Abingdon, Va., the son of the late Robert Bishop and Maude Bryant Carico.
He was educated at William King High School in Abingdon, Emory and Henry College in Emory, Va., and the University of Virginia School of Education in Charlottesville.
He was a member of Saint Stevens Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, Inez Dixon Carico; two daughters, Rebecca Leigh Howman of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Rachel Susan Lehr of Goose Greek, S.C.; and two sisters, Helen Morton of Roxboro and Julia Davenport of Campobello, S.C.
Memorials may be made to the Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Maham Center Blvd., Tallahassee, Fla. 32308 or a church of one’s choice.

Carlton W. Cole
ALTON, Va. – A memorial service for Carlton Wayne Cole, 66, of 2191 Denniston Rd., Alton, Va., who died Sunday, June 22, 2003, in his home, will be conducted at 11 a.m., today, June 25, in Shady Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Don Davidson.
Mr. Cole was native of Halifax County, Va., the son of Dorothy Conner Cole of Alton, who survives, and the late Henry David Cole.
He was the former owner of South Boston Livestocks and the incumbent president of the downtown South Boston Farmers Market.
He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Elizabeth Franklin Cole; a son, David Earl Cole of Roxboro; a daughter, Gloria C. Bauer of Clarksville, Va.; a step-son, William F. Hatcher of Alton; a brother, Stewart Layne of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren, Ruthie Bauer and Teddy Bauer, both of Clarksville; two step-granddaughters, Beth Throckmorton of Scottsburg, Va. and Stacy Stephens of Roxboro; and a step-grandson, Aaron Stephens of Roxboro.
Memorials may be made to the Halifax County Cancer Assoc., P.O. Box 875, South Boston, VA or the Shady Grove UMC.

Hazel R. Donnell
SANFORD – A graveside funeral for Hazel Roberts Donnell, 78, formerly of Roxboro, who died Friday, June 20, 2003, in her home in Sanford, was conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 22, in Buffalo Cemetery by Dr. Carl Rush.
Mrs. Donnell was a native of Durham, the daughter of the late Earl and Clarice Rimmer Roberts. Her late son was Mark C. Donnell.
Surviving are her husband, Edwin Donnell Jr.; a son, Michael L. Donnell of Seven Lakes; a daughter, Irene McDermott of Clayton; a brother, Dewey S. Roberts of Lemon Springs; four grandchildren, Jill Phlippeau, Megan Donnell, Kylie McDermott, and Hasten McDemott.

Harold H. Hatcher
The funeral for Harold Harrison Hatcher, 71, of 1445 Mountain Rd., who died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, June 27, in Rock Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Martin Hall. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hatcher was a native of Red Oak, Va., the son of the late Garnet Adam and Pattie Chandler Hatcher.
A U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was retired from the American Tobacco Co.
He was a member and a deacon of Rock Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Janet B. Hatcher; two daughters, Kimberly (Kim) L. Hatcher and Suzette Hatcher Hunley, both of Roxboro; three brothers, Hildred M. Hatcher of Columbia, S.C., James Hatcher of Aberdeen, Md. and Earl C. Hatcher of Greensboro; a sister, Irene H. King of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a grandchild, Barrett Chandler Hunley.
Pallbearers will be Traynham Mitchell, Ronald Buchanan, Frank Day, Robert Hatcher, Barry Rudder, Tim Hatcher and Tony Hatcher. Honorary pallbearers will be Jessie Lee Riley, Coy Oakley, Bob Brann and W.L. Dudley.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, June 26, at the home of Janet B. Hatcher, 1445 Mountain Rd., Roxboro.

Hilda F. Long
The funeral for Hilda Foushee Long, 81, of 645 Dee Long Rd., who died Saturday, June 21, 2003, in Person Memorial Hospital was conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, June 23, in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Norma Walters and the Rev. David Blackman. Burial was in Person Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Long was a native Person County, the daughter of the late Robert H. and Annie Williams Foushee. Her late husband was Thurman L. Long, and her late son was Thurman Preston Long.
She graduated from Hurdle Mills High School in 1939 where she was valedictorian and class president.
She was a legal secretary, retired from the Person County Department of Social Services.
Surviving are two daughters, Beverly Hall, of Newport, Va and Karen Long of Roxboro; three brothers, Robert H. (Buster) Foushee, Jr. of Roxboro, Cootie Foushee of Hurdle Mills and Cecil Foushee, of Timberlake; a sister, Helen F. Clayton of Timberlake; two grandchildren, Wyatt Hall and Matt Hall; and a step-grandchild, Jack Winstead.

Fred W. Nitzschke
A memorial service for Fred Wilson Nitzschke, 84, of Edgewood Drive, who died Sunday, June 22, 2003 in Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., today, June 25, in Roxboro Baptist Church by the Rev. DuPre Sanders.
Mr. Nitzschke was native of King County, Washington, the son of the late Richard A. and Jane Wilson Nitzschke. His late wife was Polly Shuford Nitzschke.
A graduate of The University of Washington in Seattle, he was a retired school teacher, having taught high school math in the New York public school system in Brooklyn from 1950 to 1980.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Signal Corps from 1942 to 1945, rising to the rank of second lieutenant.
He did volunteer work for Home Health & Hospice of Person County and Person Memorial Hospital.
He was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Davis and Debbie A. Nitzschke of Henniker, N.H., a sister, Margaret L. Butterfield of Seattle, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Home Health & Hospice of Person County, 325 South Morgan St., Roxboro, NC 27573.

Thelma D. Oakley
The funeral for Thelma Duncan Oakley, 79, of 818 City Lake Rd., who died Sunday, June 22, 2003, in Person Memorial Hospital following an extended illness, was conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, in Theresa Baptist Church by the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial was in the Oakley Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Oakley was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late George G. and Nannie Clayton Duncan. Her late husband was John W. (J.W.) Oakley Jr.
She was a nurse, retired from Person Memorial Hospital.
She was a Baptist.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra O. Solomon, Susan O. Whitfield and Patsy O. Gentry, all of Roxboro; four sons, Randall B. Oakley, William G. (Bill) Oakley, M. Mickey Oakley and Johnny D. Oakley, all of Roxboro; four sisters, Bessie D. Jordan, Kathleen (Lena) D. Ellis, and Florance D. (Deanie) Wrenn, all of Roxboro and Elizabeth D. Brooks, of Richmond, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Angela O. Barbar, Kevin (Pete) Oakley, Shannon Wilcox Johansen, Kristy O. Black, Jennifer Oakley, Robert (Robbie) Whitfield III, Brian Whitfield, Corey Whitfield, Chelsea Gentry, and William (Will) Gentry; seven great-grandchildren, Brent Phillips, Hope Barbar, Ty Oakley, Tiffany Wilcox, Michael Wilcox, Camryn Black and Elizabeth Johansen; two step-great-grandchildren, Nikki Barbar and Geoff Winstead.
Pallbearers were Kevin Oakley, Jerry Barbar, Robbie Whitfield, Brian Whitfield, Corey Whitfield, Mark Duncan, Greg Oakley, and Dean Brooks.

Thelma C. Golston
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The funeral for Thelma C. Golston, 63, who died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, in King's County Hospital, will be conducted Monday, July 14, in Corner Stone Baptist Church in Brooklyn. Burial will be in a cemetery in New York.
Mrs. Golston was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Elvin and Plassie Cousin.
Surviving are her husband, John Golston; a daughter, Dawn Golston of Brooklyn; four sisters, Noami C. Johnson, Nannie C. Smith and Carolyn C. Lee, all of Roxboro, and Phyllis C. Parrott of Durham; four brothers, Ernest and Carl Cousin, both of Roxboro; James and William Cousin, both of Maryland; and two grandchildren, Jakera and Elexus Golston of Brooklyn.

Izona G. Murray
The funeral for Izona Gates Murray, 92, of 477 Gentry Ridge Rd., who died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, in Person Memorial Hospital, was conducted at 11a.m. Friday, July 11, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Herman Chambers. Burial was in Berry's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Murray was a native of Orange County, the daughter of the late Dallas G. and Fannie Breeze Gates. Her late husband was Hiram F. Murray.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Paschall Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Ann M. Pegram and Betty Lou M. Parsons, both of Roxboro; two sisters, Berdie M. Adams and Mary Lou Talley, both of Roxboro; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bobby Lee Gentry, Carlyle Gentry, Ray Adams, Cecil Lynn Gentry, Wayne Collie, and Don Gallimore. Honorary pallbearers were Danny Regan, Tony Regan, and Kevin Regan.
Memorials may be made to the Extended Care Unit of Person Memorial Hospital, 615 Ridge Rd., Roxboro, NC 27573.

Earl Love Jr.
The funeral for Earl Love Jr., of 867 Jones Lester Rd., who died Sunday, July 6, 2003, in his home following an extended illness, was conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, July 11, in St. James Baptist Church, Leasburg, by the Rev. Nannie Fuller and Pastor Danny Johnson. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Love was the son of the late Earl and Bertha Woods Love.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Love; two daughters, Denise Bradsher and Patricia Love, both of Roxboro; four sisters, Hattie Snipes of Durham, Beatrice Smith of New Rochelle, N.Y., Odessa Easterling of Greensboro, and Jennie Woods of Roxboro; a brother, the Rev. Elbert Love of California; a grandson, Dewayne of Roxboro; and a granddaughter, Danielle Bradsher of Roxboro.
Arrangements were by Booker Funeral Home.

Lucille Walker
The funeral for Lucille Walker, who died Friday, July 4, 2003, in Washington Hospital Center, in Washington, D. C., will be conducted at 1 p.m., today, July 12, in Vernon Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Ollie Ellison. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Walker was a native of Person County, the daughter of Annie Walker of Lanham, Md., who survives.
Surviving in addition to her mother are two sisters, Clara Smith and Annie Lillian Reynolds, both of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, James Walker of Rochelle, N.Y. and Lee Roy Walker of Lanham.

Oliver T. Fuller Jr.
The funeral for Oliver Fuller Jr., 76, of 98 Charlie Jay Rd., who died Friday, July 18, 2003, in Duke University Medical Center following an extended illness, will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, July 21, in Oak Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bud Jenness. Burial, with military rites, will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Fuller was a native of Person County, the son of the late Oliver Thomas and Mary Eva Fuller Fuller.
He was a retired United States Army veteran during the Vietnam Era.
He was retired from Collins & Aikman Corp.
He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Lillie Solomon Fuller; two sons, Oliver Thomas Fuller III and Stephen Fuller, both of Roxboro; two daughters, Jackie F. Wilkins of Cary, and Lisa F. Hodges of Holly Springs; two brothers, Bill Fuller of Harvest, Ala., and Merritt Fuller of Douglas, Geo.; three sisters, Ruth F. Oakley of West End, Miriam F. Burhart of Adrian, Mont., and Ann F. Moore of Roxboro; five grandchildren, Leslie W. Oakley of Cary, Caitlin Hodges, Blake Hodges, Rachel Hodges, and Autumn Hodges, all of Roxboro; three step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, July 20, in Strickland Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Roy Holeman
BALTIMORE, MD – The funeral for Roy Holeman, 68, who died Monday, July 14, 2003, in Northwest Hospital Center in Randallstown, MD, was conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, July 18, in Hester, Whitted & Daye Funeral Service chapel by the Rev. George Crews III and the Rev. Ronnie Torain. Burial was in Lattisville Grove Baptist Church in Hurdle Mills.
Mr. Holeman was a native of Person County, the son of the late Gaither and Leatha Holeman.
Surviving are four sisters, NaRuth Holeman, Clementine Paylor, both of Roxboro, Clarine Torain of Hurdle Mills, and Christine Richardson of Greensboro; three brothers, James Holeman, Robert Lee Holeman, and Stanley Holeman, all of Philadelphia, Penn.

Ada P. Jackson
Durham – The funeral for Ada Porterfield Jackson, 86, of 3007 Pickett Rd., who died Thursday, July 17, 2003, in her home, will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, July 19, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Ken Forehand. Burial will be in Wheeler’s Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Jackson was a native of Halifax County, VA, the daughter of the late Holland and Flora T. Tuck. Her late husbands were C. Graham Porterfield, C.B. Howell, William E. Byrd, and Garland Jackson.
She was a former employee of Durham Drapery.
She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter and spouse, Brenda Porterfield and Marion Miller of Rougemont; a brother, Henry Tuck of Danville, VA; two sisters, Murlest Jones of Timberlake, and Vurlest Watlington of Danville; a grandchild, Myra M. Gruber; and two great-grandchildren, Brittany Gruber and Autumn Gruber.
Pallbearers will be Harold Day, Harold Day Jr., C.B. Fox, Landon Fox, Vance Porterfield and Randy Clayton.
