Lottie N. Walsh
The funeral for Lottie Norris Walsh, 80, of 2500 Burlington Rd., who died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, July 26, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. DuPre Sanders. Burial will be in the Norris Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Walsh was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Charlie and Artelia Brown Norris. Her late husband was Namon Walsh.
She was a homemaker and a member of Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Russell Bryan Walsh and Bruce Walsh, and wife, Debra, all of Roxboro and Staff Sgt. Barry Walsh, and wife, Julie, of Columbia, S. C.; four brothers, Hubert Norris of Thomasville, Rainey Norris and David Norris, both of Hurdle Mills, and Hassel Norris of McLeansville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Barry Norris, Dale Norris, Phillip Norris, Ronald Norris and Bernice Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Norris, Howard Parker and Norman Parker.

Nelson T. Woodlief
ROUGEMONT - The funeral for Nelson Thomas Woodlief, 82, of 6475 Mt. Harmony Church Rd., who died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Durham Regional Hospital, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 27, in Flat River Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Bobby Daughtry. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Woodlief was a native of Granville County, the son of the late Archibald Hall and Susie Fuller Woodlief.
He was retired from the oil distribution business.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a Primitive Baptist.
Surviving are his wife, Christine Copley Woodlief; a son, Jerry Thomas Woodlief and wife, Frances, of Graham; two brothers, Raymond Browning Woodlief of Rougemont and Roy Lee Woodlief of Durham; three sisters, Elizabeth W. Oakley, of Roxboro, Beatrice W. Carter, of Petersburg, Va. and Josephine W. Ellington of Oxford; two grandchildren, Brian Jeremy Woodlief and Kristi W. McCown, and husband Michael.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Woodlief, Timothy Hawkins, Eric Hawkins, Warren Hawkins, Samuel M. Wilson Jr., and Danny Parrish.
Visitation will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Rougemont Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Everett Hill, 13122 U.S. 501N., Rougemont, NC, 27572.

Infant Malachi Chambers
A graveside funeral for infant Malachi Chambers, who died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 2, in the Whitfield Family Cemetery on Skip Rogers Road in Hurdle Mills by the Rev. Joseph Hailey Jr.
He was born July 18, 2003, the son of Clinton Chase and Evelyn Paniagua Chambers of Hurdle Mills.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Ashton Chase Chambers of the home; his paternal grandparents, Douglas Robert and Gail Hailey Chambers of Hurdle Mills; paternal great-grandparents, Phyllis Whitfield Chambers, the Rev. Joseph Hailey Jr. and his wife, Evelyn, all of Hurdle Mills; maternal grandparents, Maria Cerda of Roxboro and Jorge Paniagua of Clewiston, Fla.; maternal great-grandparents in Mexico and Margarita Corona of Wes Laco, Texas.
Arrangements are by Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Lillian H. Coles
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The funeral for Lillian (Pank) Humphrey Coles, formerly of Roxboro, who died Sunday, July 27, 2003, in Hampton, Va., will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Aug. 2, in First Baptist Church in Newport News, Va. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Coles was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Thornton and Lelia Nelson Humphrey.
Surviving are a son, Walter C. Coles Jr.; two sisters, Pauline H. Thmas of Roxboro and Evelyntene H. Dempsey of Raleigh; and two brothers, William Humphrey and Thornton Humphrey Jr. of Roxboro.
Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service.

Lorena D. Cousin
The funeral for Lorena Daye Cousin, 85, of 202 Front St., who died Wednesday morning, July 30, 2003, in Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 2, in Cleggs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Timberlake by the Rev. Louis Cash. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Wilbur C. Cousin; two sons, James E. Cousin and Wilbur McCoy Cousin, both of Roxboro; three sisters, Margie Moore of Creedmoor, Selean Tuck of Durham and Vinnie Rogers of Erie, Pa; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Cousin, 86 Trotter-Clay Rd.
Arrangements are by Hester-Whitted-Day Funeral Home.

Elwood L. Harris
The funeral for Elwood Louis Harris, 76, of 172 Kiser Martin Rd., who died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at his home, was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Ross Thompson. Burial was in Asbury United Methodist Church cemetery in Halifax, Va.
Mr. Harris was a native of Mecklenburg County, Va., the son of the late Walter Louis and Irene Hall Harris. His late wife was Rosemary Powell Harris.
He was retired from Crown Aluminum after 20 years of service.
A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a commander, treasurer and adjutant of the Person County chapter of Disabled American Veterans.
He was a member of Montwood Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Loftis Harris; a daughter, Sandra H. Hicks of Hurdle Mills; a son, Louis Harris of Roxboro; five step-sons, Henry Martin, Jerry Martin, Robert Martin, Ray Martin and Johnny Martin, all of Roxboro; three step-daughters, Alma Clayton, Ann Solomon and Faye Sullivan, all of Roxboro; a brother, John A. Harris of Roxboro; three sisters, Marion H. Clayton of Roxboro, Maxine H. Moore of Timberlake and Agnes H. Dunkley of Roxboro; a step-brother, Richard Saunders; five grandchildren, Donna Hicks, Stephen Hicks, Dustin Shotwell, Samantha Shotwell and Jonathan Shotwell; 21 step-grandchildren and 21 step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Henry Morris, Joe McKenna, Terry Clayton, Kenneth Hicks, J. Alvah Harris, Eric Rimmer, Ronnie Dunkley and Martin Whitt.

Robert C. Jones
The funeral for Robert Carlton (Bub) Jones, 76, of 9691 Boston Rd., who died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 2, in Bethel Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Jason Evans and the Rev. Stevie Carlton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Jones was a native of Person County, the son of the late Edgar Yancey and Moriah Woody Jones.
He was retired from Collins & Aikman Corp. after more than 40 years of service.
He was a member of Bethel Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ella Carlton Jones; a son, Carl Jones of Lexington; two daughters, Diane J. Seate of Leasburg, Va. and Cathy J. Hamlet of Columbus; two sisters, Essie Ruth J. Umstead of Durham and Hazel J. Carlton of Yanceyville; four grandchildren, Christopher Seate, Crystal Seate, Graham Jones and Bradley Jones.
Pallbearers will be Carl Jones, Graham Jones, Bradley Jones, Christopher C. Seate, Berkley Morris and Paul Barnette. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Chambers, John Lee Whitt, Michael Talley, Tommy Brandon, Danny Carlton, Charlie Walsh, Orie Beaver, Warren Talley and Lynn Brandon.
Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Hill Baptist Church Youth Program, 201 Old U.S. 501, Roxboro, NC 27574.

George A. Seate
The funeral for George Alvin (Pete) Seate, 80, of 527 Frank St., who died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Gerald Hodges and the Rev. Jonathan Taylor. Burial will be in in Person Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Seate was a native of Granville County, the son of the late Richard Thomas and Ruth Watts Seate/
He was a retired meat supervisor for A&P.
A U. S. Army veteran, he serve with Merrill's Marauders in India, China and Burma during World War II.
He was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church in Durham.
Surviving are his wife, Agnes Overby Seate; a daughter, Betty Robinson of Henderson; three sons, Paul Seate and Steve Seate, both of Roxboro, and Richard Seate of Holly Springs; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Lacy Morris, Michael Seate, Richard Seate III, David Seate, Jeff Seate and Mark Seate.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, Aug. 2, at Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Bruce S. Whitfield
The funeral for Bruce Stanley Whitfield, 45, of 1721 Robert Whitfield Rd., who died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Duke University Medical Center, was conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Hal Dickerson and the Rev. Fred Barwick. Burial was in Clement Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Whitfield was a native of Person County, the son of Foy Horton
Whitfield, who survives, and the late Robert O. Whitfield.
He was a construction worker.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are a sister, Betty Sue W. Moore of Hurdle Mills; two brothers, Robert O. (Bobby) Whitfield Jr., of Roxboro and Tim Whitfield of Fairfield; six nephews and a niece.
Pallbearers were Robbie Whitfield, Brian Whitfield, Corey Whitfield, Jason Moore, Kyle Moore and Billy Whitfield.

Wilford W. Whitlow
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - The funeral for Wilford Wright Whitlow, 60, of 218 Easley St., South Boston, Va., who died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 2, in Brooks Funeral Home chapel in South Boston by the Rev. Jim Smith and Ricky Whitlow. Burial will be in the Jones Family Cemetery.
Mr. Whitlow was a native of Person County, the son of Lucie W. Gravitt of South Boston, who survives, and the late Amos Thomas Whitlow.
He was a self-employed dry wall contractor.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Althea Adams Whitlow; a son, Wilford A. (Tony) Whitlow and wife Shelia, of Virgilina, Va.; a daughter, Tamra W. Whitt and husband, Kevin, of Virgilina; and five grandchildren, William (Will) Whitlow, Andrew Whitlow, Sara Whitt, Daniel Whitt and Grace Whitt, all of South Boston.
Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes. Research Foundation, Central Virginia Chapter, 3805 Cutshaw Ave. #212, Richmond, Va. 23230.

Willie C. Wilson Jr.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete Friday for Willie Clarence Wilson Jr., 56, of 418 Semora Rd., who died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at his home following several months of declining health.
He was a member of Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen Winstead Wilson; his parents, Willie Clarence Wilson and Lizzie Wilson of Roxboro; a sister, Carol Hatchett of Roxboro; five brothers, Brady Johnson of Baltimore, Md., Walter Wilson, R. D. Wilson, James Wilson and Barry Wilson, all of Roxboro; and a god-daughter, Charlene Cash of Roxboro.

Barry T. Atkins
A graveside funeral for Barry Thomas Atkins, 38, of 1421 N. Main St., who died Monday afternoon, Sept. 8, 2003, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill following a brief illness, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, in Burchwood Cemetery by the Rev. Phil Oakley.
Mr. Atkins was a native of Person County, the son of Patsy Gilliland Atkins, who survives, and the late Wayne Thomas (Tommy) Atkins.
He was formerly employed with Daniels Construction Co.
He was a Baptist.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a son, Derrick T. Atkins of Roxboro; three brothers, Terry W. Atkins, Troy D. Atkins and Kevin Dale Atkins, all of Roxboro; and his maternal grandmother, Louise Jackson Gilliland of Roxboro.
Visitation will be today, Sept. 10, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home.

T. Milton Clark
The funeral for Thomas Milton Clark, 75, of 4165 Chub Lake Rd., who died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at his home, was conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in Theresa Baptist Church by the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Clark was a native of Pittsylvania County, Va., the son of the late William Perkins and Lillian Roach Clark. His late first wife was Nellie Bunch Clark.
He was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran of World War II and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was retired from Alumark Aluminum Corp., where he was a truck driver.
He was a member of Theresa Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia (Pat) Dixon Clark; three sons, Larry M. Clark and wife, Deborah, Gary T. Clark and wife, Denise, and W.Dane Clark and wife, Sheila, all of Roxboro; two step-sons, Christopher Long and Bryan T. Long and wife Bridget, all of Roxboro; a brother, Melvin B. Clark of Vienna, Va.; five grandchildren, Shawn Clark, Matthew Clark, Dana Clark, Stuart Clark and Heidi Clark; and two step-grandchildren, Courtney Long and Alyssa Long.
Pallbearers were Tim Chandler, Richard (Dick) Cramer, Jerry Davis, Wayne Kay, Tom McElveen, Scottie Poole, Sandy Wrenn and Tony Wrenn.
Honorary pallbearers were Mark Blalock, Weldon Bowes, Talmadge Coates, Hassel Davis, Howard Harris, Bud Jones, Jerry Whitlow and Winkie Wilkins.

Willis O. Dixon
The funeral for the Rev. Willis O. Dixon, 69, of Timberlake and formerly of Benson, who died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 10, at West & Dunn Funeral Home chapel in Benson by the Rev. Adrian Dixon. Burial will be in the Dixon Family Cemetery.
Mr. Dixon was the son of the late Otha and Lettie Dixon.
Surviving are two daughter, Leona Dearing and Rebecca Gilliam, both of Clayton; a son, Daniel Dixon of Charleston, W. Va.; four brothers, Carl Dixon of Benson, Graham Dixon of Smithfield, Eumeese Dixon of Bladenboro and Lamuel Dixon of Garner; three sisters, Geritude Parrish and Lourise McLaurin, both of Wilmington, and Velma Baldock of Chicago; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

William S. Humphries
The funeral for William Smith (Bill) Humphries, 85, of Raleigh, who died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 of congestive heart failure at Western Wake Medical Center in Cary, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 10, in Ridge Road Baptist Church in Raleigh. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Bethel Hill Baptist Church in Person County.
Mr. Humphries grew up on a family farm in Person County. After graduation from Wake Forest College in 1938, he taught high school social studies.
He served in the U.S. Army and was wounded in Germany during service in World War II.
After his discharge from military service, Mr. Humphries worked for awhile with N. C. State University before joining the news staff at The News & Observer in Raleigh, for which he wrote a farming column from 1953 to 1973, and earned several journalism awards for his writing. He subsequently joined the cooperative Extension office at N. C. State where as senior news editor, he continued to write about agriculture until his retirement..
Surviving are three sons, Billy Humphries of Raleigh and David Eric Humphries, both of Raleigh, and Daniel Glenn Humphries of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Nancy Anne Crawford and husband, Bobby, of Apex; a brother, Thomas Humphries of Roxboro; a sister, Ruby Talley of Charlotte; and five grandchildren, Christina Lovell, Angela Humphries, Mitchell Humphries, Kimberly Crawford and Margaret Stoner.
Memorials may be sent to The Healing Place of Wake County, 1251 Goode St., Raleigh, NC 27603.
Arrangements are by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home of Raleigh.

Cora C. Keatts
CHATHAM, Va. - The funeral for Cora Custer Keatts, 76, of 13460 Highway 29, Chatham, Va., who died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at her home, was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in Swicegood Funeral Home in Danville, Va. by the Rev. Rudy Hearn. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Keatts was a native of Pittsylvania County, Va., the daughter of the late Luther Custer and Cissy Atkins Custer. Her late husband was Burton Eugene Keatts.
She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Climax.
Surviving are two daughters, Vanissa Keatts Waldon and Delilah Fay Towler, both of Chatham; a son, Christopher Eugene Keatts of Chatham; two step-daughters, Marie Payne of Danville and Maryland Staples of Chapel Hill; a sister; Lucille Lawson of Richmond, Va.; nine grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
