RALEIGH -- Wayland Patterson, Sr., of 1704 Calypso Court, died Friday.
Funeral Wednesday 1 p.m. at Lea Funeral Home. Burial, Carolina Biblical Gardens.
Surviving: spouse, Barbara Patterson of the home; daughters, Shawn and Lisa Patterson both of Raleigh; sons, Michael Barney of Roanoke, VA and Wayland Patterson, Jr. of Raleigh; sisters, Mary Frances Upchurch of Raleigh; brothers, Raymond Earl Patterson of Raleigh, Rupert Patterson Jr. of Raleigh; four grandchildren.
Visitation at Lea Funeral Home 12:30-1 p.m. Wednesday. The family will meet and receive friends at 1704 Calypso Court.

MYRTIE P. PEARCE
LOUISBURG -- Myrtie P. Pearce, 92, of Louisburg, formerly of Rt. 3, Zebulon (Pearces) died Saturday, January 30, 1999 at her home. A lifetime resident of Franklin County, she was a caring daughter of the late Omri and Florence Pearce. She was a devoted wife of Bertis C. Pearce for 50 years before his death in 1987. She was a dedicated member of Pearce Baptist Church for 80 years. She was a loving mother of one daughter, motherly to many and a friend to all.
Surviving are: daughter and son-in-law, Lucretia P. and Matt Buttram of the home; sisters, Maude Pearce, Oma P. Stalling, and Vernie P. Perry all of Zebulon; one step-grandson; two step-great-grandchildren; several sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special devoted dog, Sandy.
She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Melba Pearce, Flora P. Carter, Zoie P. Pearce, Annie Rue P. Bowling, Meldrin, Oris, Wallace and Vaden Pearce.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Pearce Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at 3 p.m. from the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the Lancaster Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Lucretia and Matt Buttram, 2198 N.C. Hwy. 561, Louisburg.

MALISSIA MAY ROBERTS POOLE
RALEIGH -- Mrs. Malissia May "Ma" Roberts Poole, 95, of Raleigh, died Saturday, January 30, 1999 in the Wellington Nursing Center in Knightdale.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 1999 in the Samaria Baptist Church by Rev. Tony Wilson. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

PHILLIP C. RANSDELL
FUQUAY-VARINA -- Phillip Clifton Ransdell, 67, died Sunday, January 31, 1999.
Funeral service 11 a.m. today, February 2, 1999 at Wake Chapel Christian Church. Burial, Wake Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Ransdell was born September 1, 1931 in Fuquay-Varina to William Garland Ransdell and Elva Clifton Ransdell. He graduated from U.N.C. in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Certified Public Accountant. He received his Doctor of Law Degree from U.N.C. in 1958. From 1958 until 1998 he was a partner in the law firm of Ransdell, Ransdell and Cline.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, William Garland (Buck) Ransdell, Jr.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Page Ransdell; sons, Phillip C. (Cliff) Ransdell and wife, Marty of Fuquay-Varina; Paul A. Ransdell of Cary; daughter, Page R. Gunter and husband, Jeffrey of Kernersville; brother, E. Byron Ransdell and wife, Sara of Raleigh; sister, Martha R. Hicks of Wendell; sister-in-law, Ann S. Ransdell of Raleigh; grandchildren, Martha-Page, Mary-Clifton and Katherine-Parker Ransdell of Fuquay-Varina, Drew, Ethan and Brady Gunter of Kernersville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's Street, 4th Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605.

EDITH C. SCHLIECKER
CHAPEL HILL -- Edith Coleman Schliecker, 89, of Chapel Hill died at her home in Chapel Hill Friday morning, January 29 after a long illness.
Mrs. Schliecker, one of seven children, was born in 1909 in Elkins, NM, daughter of James Coleman and Daisy Crockett, a decedent of Davey Crockett. She grew up on the immense Jawzoo Ranch now owned by Ted Turner and Jane Fonda. She attended the Loretto Academies in Los Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX where she was a member of the first graduating class in 1925. She attended the University of New Mexico and received her teaching certificate in 1929. In her first position she taught all eight elementary grades and her youngest brother was in the first grade. She was a member of the University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill. Mrs. Schliecker was predeceased by her husband, Charles L. Schliecker, Lt. Col. USAF retired.
A memorial service will be conducted at Walkers Funeral Home Chapel, 120 W. Franklin St. at 10:00 Thursday, February 4, by the Rev. Ronald E. Gonia. The eulogy will be given by Gregory Ott. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Salisbury later in the day. The family will receive friends in the parlor at the Funeral Home following the service.
She is survived by daughters, Helen Ott and her husband Richard of Chapel Hill and Gloria Hall and her husband Robert of Los Gatos, CA; grandchildren, Sandre Peele, Steven Grier, Suzanne Cartwright and Gregory Ott; great-grandchildren, Virginia Cartwright, Charlie and Robert Peele and Alexandria Ott; brother, Harold Coleman of Alamogordo, NM; brother-in-law, Howard Schliecker and his wife, Frances of Denver, CO; nieces, Charlotte and Marilyn; nephew, Les.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1330, Durham, N.C. 27701 or to the Food Bank of North Carolina, 3808 Tar Heel Drive, Raleigh, N.C. 27609.

CHARLIE J. SPELL
SALEMBURG -- Mr. Charlie James Spell, 60, of 9300 Minnie-Hall Road, Salemburg died Monday at the Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Roseboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bryan Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in the Roseboro Cemetery.
He was a native of Sampson County, the son of the late Harvey and Dorothy Autry Spell. He was the corporate purchasing manager for the Riddle Company, Triangle Building Supply Division for 34 years. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi and a member of the Roseboro United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jane Wilson Spell of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Natalie Henderson of Raleigh, Mrs. Carlos Caskey and Mrs. Caroline Cleary both of Charlotte; two sons, Eric Spell of Raleigh and Telfair Simpson of Roseboro; one sister, Mrs. JoAnn Stanford of Fayetteville; seven grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Research, Duke Medical Center, Durham, NC or to the Roseboro United Methodist Church Organ Fund.

MARY MACHEN STRICKLAND
CARY -- Mary M. Strickland, 73, loving wife and mother, of Cary, died Sunday at her home.
She is survived by her husband, Johnnie T. Strickland; two daughters, Jennifer S. Sipe and husband Cameron of Pittsboro, Susan S. Duda and husband Al of Great Falls, VA; one son, Phillip Strickland of Milton, DE; one sister, Frances Sawyer of Chesapeake, VA; three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 212 S. Harrison Ave., Cary, Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. It is suggested that memorials be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., 4th Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605. Private burial will be at a later date.

MADELINE F. WORSLEY
RALEIGH -- A private (family only) graveside service for infant Madeline F. Worsley will be held at 11 a.m., Tues., Feb. 2, 1999, at Raleigh Memorial Park.

WILLIAM ROBERT BRITT III
CARY -- William Robert Britt III, 27, of 9455 Chapel Hill Rd., Cary, N.C., died at Rex Hospital early Wednesday morning due to an extended illness.
Mr. Britt was a graduate of Athens Drive High School in Raleigh, N.C., and a native of Wilmington, N.C.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Apex Funeral Home chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Andrew Pickens. Burial will follow in the Apex Cemetery.
Survivors: his parents, William "Bill" Britt Jr. and Susan Britt of the home; paternal grandmother, Eula M. Britt of the home; maternal grandparents, Wilbur and Wilma Strawn of Dekalb, Illinois; several uncles and aunts.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 1999 at Apex Funeral Home, 511 West Williams St. (Hwy 55) Apex, N.C.; and other times at the home.

ALLEN KEITH GLOVER
KNIGHTDALE -- Allen Keith Glover, 68, of 416 Third Avenue, died Tuesday, February 2, 1999. Born in Wilmington on October 22, 1930, son of Mary Allen and Sandy T. Glover. He graduated from New Hanover High School and Wilmington College (now UNCW) and served four years in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman.
He worked in public health from 1954-1994 with New Hanover County, Craven County, and Wake County. At the time of his retirement, he was Deputy Health Director for Wake County. He was a lifelong Baptist and past master of Doric Masonic Lodge #568 in New Bern, and member of Scottish Rite. He was an avid boater and salt-water fisherman. He was active in square dancing for 31 years and taught round dancing with his wife since 1974 in New Bern, Cary and Raleigh.
Graveside service 1 p.m. Monday, February 8, 1999 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington with masonic rites by Wilmington Masonic Lodge #413.
Surviving: his 5th grade sweetheart and wife of 48 years, Nellie Gene Smith Glover; daughter, Christine and her husband, David Heugel of Knightdale; sons, A. Keith Glover Jr. and his wife, Jo of Cary, C. Morris Glover and his wife, Paula of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Jennifer Glover, Amanda Glover, Travis Glover, Daniel Glover, Brittany Glover; brothers, S.T. Glover of Burgaw, Norwood Glover of Miami, FL; sister-in-law, Renee' Smith Santos and her husband, Danny of Wilmington.
Family will receive relative and friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Masonic Children's Orphanage, 500 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.

JERRY R. ROUSE
CARY -- Jerry Randolph Rouse, 54, of Cary, died February 4, 1999, at his home.
Jerry was a native of Lenoir County and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. He had been a resident of Cary for 15 years where he was a partner with Mills, Rouse and Company, CPA.
Jerry was very active in his community, as a member of First United Methodist Church of Cary, past treasurer of the Cary Chamber of Commerce, and a past president of Apex Rotary Club. As a recent organ transplant recipient, Jerry was also active in the Duke Fitness Center for Living and Carolina Organ Procurement Association.
Jerry was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and friend. He was an inspiration to all that knew and loved him, and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Eleanor Rouse of Cary; sons, Jeremy "Brett" Rouse of Seattle, Wash., and David Alan Rouse of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Gwendolyn Rouse Humphrey and her husband, Ralph of Deep Run; sister, Janet Rouse Johnson and her husband, Wallace of New Bern; brother, Gregory Gordon Rouse and his wife, Tammy of Durham; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Cary.
A visitation will follow at the church from 11 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The burial will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston, NC.

BETTY G. STOTT
RALEIGH -- Betty G. Stott, 68, of 5915 Valley Estates Dr., died Wednesday, February 3, 1999. Mrs. Stott was born in Wake County to the late Edgar Roy and Sally Watkins Grogan.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Joseph Brothers and Rev. Larry Upchurch officiating. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving is her husband, Louis A. Stott; daughter, Sharon S. Coats and husband Roger of Lynchburg, VA; sister, Mildred G. Proctor and husband Paul of Raleigh; and grandson, Jordan Stott Mitchell of Lynchburg, VA.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday evening at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington St.
Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605.
She's dearly loved and will be missed by her loving husband, daughter, family, and friends.

BELINDA TURNER
RALEIGH -- Belinda Turner, 42, died Tuesday. Graveside service 1 p.m. Friday, Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving: mother, Bonnie Allen of Raleigh; father, Lee Turner Sr. of Raleigh; two brothers; three sisters.
Donations may be made to the Helping Hand Mission, 623 Rock Quarry Rd., Raleigh, 27610.

CALEB SAMUEL BAKER
CHAPEL HILL -- Caleb Samuel Baker, born January 31, 1999, to Todd Wayne Baker and Tamara Cox Baker of Chapel Hill, NC, died on February 3, 1999.
In addition to his parents, Caleb is survived by grandparents, Wayne and LaVera Baker of Marshfield, MA, and Katherine McGee Cox of Monroe, NC; and two great-grandmothers, Evangeline Young of Dallas, TX, and Rose Caswell of Halstead, PA.
Other family members include aunts and uncles, Thad and JoAnn Baker of Mechanicsburg, PA, Tedd Baker of New York City and Ronald Cox, Dennis and Susan Helms, Dennis and Rebecca Mills, Jim and Luan Ingram, all of Monroe, NC, and Greg and Dennise Cox of Weddington, NC. Caleb is also survived by fifteen first cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald Cox of Monroe.
Memorials can be sent to Carrboro Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 156, Carrboro, NC 27510.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Chapel Hill, followed by graveside services at West Wood Cemetery in Carrboro, NC. Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is serving the family.
