ROBERT V. FOUTS
RALEIGH -- Robert V. Fouts, 77, died late Thursday evening following a brief illness. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 13, 1999, 2:00 p.m. at the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, 2205 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh.
Instead of flowers, Bob's request is for you to play golf or to go dancing for him.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.

LAURA WEATHERSPOON HARRILL
RALEIGH -- Laura Weatherspoon Harrill, born November 18, 1906, in Durham, North Carolina, died Friday, March 12, 1999, in Westford, Massachusetts. Daughter of James Raymond Weatherspoon and Mabel Beard Weatherspoon. Married in 1931 to L. R. Harrill who had a long career as 4-H director.
She was preceded in death byL. R. Harrill who died in 1978 and by a daughter, Julia Anne Harrill Hoeper who died in 1988.
She is survived by a son, James Weatherspoon Harrill of Westford, Massachusetts; daughter-in-law Donna L. Harrill, the former Donna Louise Sweeney of Boston; five grandchildren, James Alan Hoeper of Smyrna, Georgia, Barbara Anne Hoeper Donovan and her husband Timothy P. Donovan of Damascus, Maryland, LCDR R. Scott Harrill of Jacksonville, Florida, Edward Weatherspoon Harrill of Guilford, Indiana, and Charles W. Harrill of New Bedford, Massachusetts; two great-grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Donovan and Hannah Grace Donovan of Damascus, Maryland; three sisters, Mrs. Stuart Weatherspoon Upchurch of Raleigh, North Carolina, Mrs. Margaret Weatherspoon Parker of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Anne Weatherspoon Phoenix and her husband Julius W. Phoenix, Jr. of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
Laura Harrill was a graduate of Peace Collage, Class of 1925, and a graduate of Meredith College, Class of 1927. She taught in public schools in Shelby, North Carolina and at the Needham B. Broughton High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was President of the Meredith College Alumnae Association, 1942-1944; President of the Raleigh Garden Club, 1950-1952; President of the North Carolina State University Woman's Club, 1954-1955; and President of the WMU of the First Baptist Church of Raleigh, 1958-1960. She was also a Director of Durham Life Insurance Company from 1959-1979 and a Trustee of Meredith College from 1970-1973, 1978-1981, and 1983-1986. She also served on the Board of Associates at Meredith College in 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976,1977, and 1982. She was the originator of the FAME (Faculty Applied Meredith Endowment) and of the MAE (Meredith Always Endowment). She was the recipient of the Meredith College Distinguished Alumnae Award in 1969, the Peace College Distinguished Alumnae Award in 1977, and the Outstanding Alumna Philanthropist Award from Meredith College in 1994. She was also honored in 1994 by the establishment of the Laura Weatherspoon Harrill Scholarship.
Services are being arranged by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, North Carolina, where there will be visiting hours on Tuesday, March 16, 1999, from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be at the First Baptist Church, 99 North Salisbury St., Raleigh, North Carolina, beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 1999, with interment following at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory either to Meredith College for the Meredith Always Endowment, 3800 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, NC 27608-5298, or to Peace College, 15 East Peace St., Raleigh, NC 27604.

HAZEL F. HOLMGREN
RALEIGH -- Hazel Holmgren, formerly of Minneapolis, died March 11, 1999 in her home at 8309 Fountain Park Drive. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 16, 1999 at Peterson and Stohlberg Chapel, Nokomis Park in Minneapolis. Burial will follow in the Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
Mrs. Holmgren was very active and a longtime devoted member of the Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church, Minneapolis. She taught 1st grade for over 30 years in the Minneapolis school district and continued teaching by tutoring children for 10 years after retirement. Mrs. Holmgren attended the Asbury Methodist Church in Raleigh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Holmgren; brother, James; sister, Adelia and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kelly.
She is survived in Raleigh by her loving daughter, Ann Marie McNevin and son-in-law Gregory; stepdaughter, Virginia Bentley of Lompoc, CA; stepson, Arthur Holmgren of Minneapolis; a number of grand and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Wake Co., 1300 St. Mary's St., Fourth Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605.

JAMIE YATES JONES
WILLOW SPRING - Jamie Yates Jones, 87, died Thursday, March 11, 1999. Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 1999 at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Woolard Jones and a son, James Millard Jones.
Surviving: daughters, Clara Wray and Sara Fish, both of Raleigh, Helen Pearce of Bunn, Mildred Harris of Beaufort, Jeanette Seefeldt of Fayetteville, Betty Lawrence, Fay Rogers and Linda Fuller, all of Willow Spring; son, J.Y. Jones of Raleigh; sister, Marie Harvell of Zebulon; brothers, Bernard Jones of Garner, Gordon Jones of Raleigh; 28 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999 at Thomas Funeral Home, Fuquay-Varina.

BOBBY LANE
RALEIGH -- Bobby Lane, of 1830 Bethel Road, died Thursday. Funeral service 3 p.m. at Love Christian Center. Burial, Faith Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: spouse, Edith Lane of the home; daughters, Thomasine Vallentine of Knightdale, Ursula Richardson, Brenda Wilson, Shelia Lane and Tiffany Lane, all of Raleigh; sons, Steven Lane of Raleigh and Myron Lucas of Knightdale; sisters, Effie Parks, Martha Lane, Patricia Bradshaw, and Gladys Hinton, all of Raleigh; brothers, Percy Lane of Holly Springs and James Foster of Raleigh; 25 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Visitation, 2:30-3 p.m. Sunday at the church.

RALEIGH -- Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 1999 in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home, Wake Forest.

ROGER CRAWFORD MOORE
LITTLETON -- Roger Crawford Moore, died March 12 at Parkway Retirement Center in Cary.
Mr. Moore was born May 22, 1915. He was the son of the late James Osborne Moore and Cordelia Richard Moore of Wellston, Ohio. He graduated from Fishburne military School. He attended Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Mr. Moore was a member of St. Albans Episcopal Church of Littleton, where he served as Senior Warden for many years. He was a founding member of the Littleton High School football team and later played football at Fishburne and at Duke. He was the owner of Roger Moore Oil Company of Littleton. Mr. Moore served as Justice of the Peace for the Town of Littleton and on the Boards of Directors of Halifax General Hospital and Warren County Schools. He was a member of the Littleton Lion's Club and a Boy Scout leader. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Palmer Moore and their son, Horace Palmer Moore, by his second wife, Katie Niblock Harvey Moore and by his brothers, James Osborne Moore II of Charlotte; sisters, Elizabeth Moore Scott of Charlotte and Lillian Moore Robinson of Littleton and niece, Lillian Ann Moore Robinson Hawfield, also of Littleton.
Survivors include his son, Roger Crawford Moore, Jr. of Raleigh; grandchildren, Horace Palmer Moore, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Roger Vinson Moore and Brooks Caulder, both of Raleigh; great-grandson, Zachary Moore of Atlanta; nephews, Johnstone Moore Scott of Chapel Hill, Horace Palmer Robinson, Jr. of Orlando, FL, Roger Alston Moore of Jacksonville, NC, Brandon Moore Berkeley of Baltimore, MD; nieces, Mary Blair Robinson Beasley of Colerain and Cordelia Richards Robinson Tyler of Charlotte, Helen Scott Paliaferro of Lawrenceville, GA, Allison Moore Garrott of Memphis, TN and by daughter-in-law, Inez Moore Hyers of Patterson, GA.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, March 14 at Blaylock's Funeral Home in Littleton from 6-8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 1999 at St. Albans Episcopal Church in Littleton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be given to St. Albans Episcopal Church, Mosby Avenue, Liittleton, North Carolina 28850.

JAMES O'ROURKE O'ROURKE SR.
RALEIGH -- James Ralph O'Rourke, Sr., 80, of 3555 Springmoor Circle, died Thursday, March 11, 1999. Memorial service will be held 7:15 p.m. Monday, March 15, in the auditorium of Springmoor Retirement Community.
Surviving are his son, James R. O'Rourke, Jr., MD and Joyce Dawson O'Rourke of Raleigh; grandchildren, Reginald DeForest O'Rourke, II of Wheeling, WV and C. Diane O'Rourke of Raleigh; sisters, Irene O'Rourke Berry of Tuscaloosa, AL, Harriett O'Rourke Keyes of Jackson, MS; several cousins; nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Negro College Fund, 310 West Fourth Street, Winston-Salem, NC or to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh, NC 27605.

FLORENCE RUSSELL HODGE OWENS
RALEIGH -- Florence Russell Hodge Owens, 85, of 3101 Duraleigh Road, formerly of 318 Hester Street, Knightdale, died Thursday, March 11, 1999. Mrs. Owens had worked on the farm with her husband and was a retired secretary with Stained Glass Associates of Knightdale.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 1999 at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery.
Surviving: son, Grady Anderson "Andy" Owens, Jr. of Cary; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Owens is preceded in death by her husband, Grady Anderson Owens, Sr., April 3, 1983 and by her daughter-in-law, Cathy Messler Owens, April 10, 1997.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.

J. AARON PADGETT
FUQUAY-VARINA -- James Aaron Padgett, 56, died Friday, March 12, 1999. Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 1999 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial, Wake Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Padgett was preceded in death by his parents, Luby T. and Evelyn Davis Padgett and brothers, Wendell Padgett and Corbett Padgett.
Surviving: wife, Jacquelyn Hemby Padgett; daughter, Desiree Padgett Blakley of Pfafftown; son, Jeffrey Aaron Padgett of the home; sisters, Jill Henry of Jacksonville, Reta Walters of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; brothers, Linwood Padgett and Eddie Padgett, both of Jacksonville, Jack Padgett of Greensboro.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999 at Thomas Funeral Home.

ETHEL S. POLLARD
RALEIGH -- Mrs. Ethel Sparrow Pollard, 89, of 2429 Bertie Drive, Raleigh, died Wednesday night at her home. She was the widow of John Marion Pollard Jr. A native of Durham she had lived in Raleigh for the past 28 years.
Surviving: daughter, Sue Pollard Wood of the home; grandchildren, John D. Wood and Kimberly Wood; one great-grandson, Brian Shew Jr.
Graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the Maplewood Cemetery, old section in Durham. Officiating will be the Rev. Becky Sansbury.
Instead of flowers, memorials should be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605.
A family will receive visitors at Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home, Durham 7-9 p.m. Friday.

ELLIOTT SWANN RUSSELL
KINSTON -- Elliott Swann Russell of Route 5, Kinston, died Thursday at Britthaven Convalescent Home in Snow Hill. He was 103.
Born in 1896 in Lenoir County, Russell attended high school in Kinston and the Ford Motor Company Academy in Detroit. He was the first man in Lenoir County to volunteer for military service in World War I. He fought in France with the American Expeditionary Force, serving in the Rainbow Division as an ambulance driver.
On the eightieth anniversary of the Armistice last year, Russell was named by the government of France as a recipient of the French Legion of Honor, as one of the surviving American soldiers of the First World War.
Following military service, Russell returned to Lenoir County, where he married icon the late Bryce Wooten Russell, his wife of seventy-five years. Russell founded several businesses, and spent the final fifty years of his career as a tobacco farmer, retiring at age ninety.
Elliott and Bryce Russell had three children, the late Richard Wooten Russell of Nairobi, Kenya and Cary, John B. Russell of Greensboro, and Helen Russell Crews of Lillington.
Russell is survived by five children, John S. Russell of Chapel Hill, Susan Bryce Russell of New York City, Ernest Crews of Ocean Isle Beach, Elliott Crews of Lillington, and Helen Russell of Rumson, New Jersey. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Caroline Russell, Margaret Russell and Catherine Russell, all of Chapel Hill, Alan Crews and William Crews of Ocean Isle Beach, and Rainey Crews of Lillington.
The family will receive visitors at Edwards Funeral Home, Kinston at 3 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Westview Cemetery, Kinston, with the Reverend John R. Grove officiating.
Memorials may be made to Gordon Street Christian Church, 118 E. Gordon St., Kinston, NC 28501; or to the charity of one's choice.

JACOB MICHAEL SADLER
RALEIGH -- Jacob Michael Sadler, 3 months, died Thursday, March 11. Funeral service will be conducted Monday, March 15, at 3:30 p.m., at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with burial following at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest.
Surviving: parents, Raymond E. "Butch" and Lynne T. Sadler; sister, Erin Nicole Sadler of the home; maternal grandparents, Carolyn and Thomas Thompson Jr. of Raleigh; paternal grandparents, Judith Mathis of Raleigh and Raymond Sadler of Cary; maternal great-grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth Olive of Apex, and Lois W. Thompson of Pittsboro; paternal great-grandmother, Virginia Taylor of Tuckerton, NJ; aunt, uncle and cousin, Nancy, Dale, and Morgan Gleason of Fuquay-Varina. Also surviving are numerous great aunts, great uncles and cousins in North Carolina and New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his uncle Rodney Michael Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Coby Sadler Scholarship Fund, Wake Forest-Rolesville High School, c/o Peggy Wall, 420 W. Stadium Dr., Wake Forest, NC 27587.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at North Raleigh Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Rd., 870-5123.

GERALDINE MOCK SCOTT
RALEIGH -- Geraldine Mock Scott, 90, o f 123 Montgomery Street, died Friday at Rex Hospital.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's Street. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving are her son, Everett S. Scott and his wife, Shelby of Cary; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Scott of Raleigh; grandchildren, Michael, Austin and Lanny Scott.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday.
