NEWTON GROVE -- Mamie M. Jackson, 100, of Newton Grove died Saturday, January 9, 1999.
She was formerly of Erwin and a member of East Erwin Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband L. D. Jackson and two sons, Earl O. Jackson and Fred O. Jackson.
She is survived by a daughter, Alene J. Britt of Newton Grove, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services 2 p.m. Monday, January 11, 1999, at West & Dunn Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roy Clifton officiating. Burial, Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at West & Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove..

LLOYD JEFFRIES
RALEIGH -- Lloyd Hoover Jeffries, 69, of 713 Belmont Dr., died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center. Funeral service will be at 2 p,.m. Sunday at the Bazzell Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 1228 Wilbon Rd., Fuquay-Varina with Rev. Norman T. Davis officiating. Burial, Bazzell Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Williams Jeffries; daughters, Jacqueline Evans of the home, Joycelyn Allison of Raleigh, (Renard), Donna Denning of Raleigh, (Billy), Laverne Jeffries-Dunn of Raleigh (Wilbert); sons, Lloyd Jeffries Jr. of Rock Hill, SC, John Jeffries of Monmouth, NJ, (Patricia); mother, Mary Ruth Jeffries of Raleigh; sisters, Vedie Jeffries of Raleigh, Jean Woods of Garner; brother, Rev. Archie Brown of Raleigh; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements by Trice Funeral Home, Fuquay-Varina.

MARVIN DRAKE JOHNSON
DUNN -- Mr. Marvin Drake Johnson, 51, of 1329 Hudson Place, Davidson, N.C., died Friday at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Dr. John Ralph Johnson Sr. of Dunn.
He was a 1966 graduate of Dunn High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and graduated from Campbell University at Buies Creek, with a degree in Trust Management.
Mr. Johnson was employed as a Trust Officer with Branch Banking and Trust Co., in Charlotte. He was formerly with the High Point Bank and Trust Co. in High Point.
There will be a memorial service at Davison United Methodist Church in Davison at 3 p.m. Sunday.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Dunn. Officiating will be Dr. Tom Freeman and Dr. James Howell.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Leona Drake Doffermyre of Dunn; wife, Judith Gantt Johnson of Davidson; sons, Cameron Drake Johnson of the home, Marvin Spencer Johnson of the home; brother John Ralph Johnson Jr. of Cary; sister, Phoebe Johnson Briley of New Bern.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Cromartie Miller and Lee Funeral Home in Dunn.
Memorials may be made to Davidson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 718, Davidson, N.C. 28036; or the Duke Liver Transplant Program, Duke Medical Center, Erwin Road, Durham, N.C. 27710.

CHARLES T. LANCASTER SR.
SELMA -- Charles Thelbert Lancaster, Sr., 88, of River Road, died Friday night in Wake Medical Center. Born in Johnston County on May 9, 1910, he was the son of the late William Henry and Lena Parrish Lancaster. He was a retired superintendent with Barnhill Construction Company and was a member of Lanwood Chapel FWB Church. He was a charter member of Cardinal Country Club.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with Rev. Louis Godwin and Rev. Kenneth Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens near Smithfield.
Surviving are his wife, Loriene Lamm Lancaster; sons, Charles T. Lancaster, Jr. and Keith Lancaster, both of Smithfield; brothers, J. D. Lancaster of Selma and Lewis Lancaster of Smithfield; sisters, Flossie Tolley of Spencer, Ruth Warrick and Frances Phillips, both of Smithfield; grandchildren, Mike Lancaster and Neal Lancaster of Smithfield; Lorie Crutchfield of Portsmouth, VA, Cara Lancaster and Kristen Lancaster of Wilmington; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Caroline Lancaster, both of Smithfield.
The family will receive friends 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.

CHARLES M. LEWIS SR.
YOUNGSVILLE -- Charles M. Lewis Sr., 70, of 100 Ryans Run, died Saturday, January 9, 1999 at his residence from an extended illness. He was retired from IBM and served in the US Navy.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 1999, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Martha W. Lewis; daughters, Mary L. Jackson of Youngsville, Marcia L. Lewis of Henderson, Cheryl Hetzel of York, Penn.; son, Charles M. Lewis Jr. of Wake Forest; sister, Beverly Pointer of Independence, Missouri; grandchildren, Meghan Jackson, Lindsay Hetzel, Jonathon Hetzel, Nathan Hetzel, Andrew Frier, Eamonn Frier, Charles M. Lewis III, Jeremy Lewis, Garrett Jackson.
in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Franklin County, 1937 N.C. Hwy 39 N, Louisburg, N.C. 27549; or to the American Cancer Society, 620 W. Morgan St., Raleigh, N.C. 27603.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. one hour prior to the service, January 12, 1999 at the funeral home.

JEAN K. LOOPER
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Jean Kemp Looper, 66,of Spartanburg, died Jan. 8, 1999 at her home.
A native of Louisburg, N.C., she was the daughter of Herman C. Kemp of Louisburg, N.C. and the late Clara Gilliam Kemp.
Survivors also include two daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Daniel Bolger of Seoul, South Korea, Susan and David Roberts of McCandless, Pa.; two grandchildren, Philip Sheridan Bolger and Carolyn Elizabeth Bolger of Seoul, South Korea; one brother, Herman C. Kemp Jr.; one sister, Hazel Kemp Collier, both of Louisburg, N.C.
She was a graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., and was a retired teacher, having taught in Mecklenberg County, N.C., James Island, S.C. and W.H. Chapman Elementary School in Spartanburg School District #7.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg where she was a member of the Ladies Chapel Class and Circle #6.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church Chapel, Monday, January 11, 1999 at 3:30 p.m. conducted by Dr. Todd B. Jones and Dr. George L. McGill Jr.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Special Needs Fund, 120 Heywood Ave., Suite 300, Spartanburg, S.C. 29302.

BARBARA B. MORGAN MAY 4, 1982 - DEC. 5, 1998
SEVERNA PARK, MD -- Barbara Bradford Morgan, 16, of Severna Park, Maryland, died December 5, 1998.She was born in Slidell, Louisiana on May 4, 1982, and was raised in the community of Fair Oaks from the age of three.
"Barbie" as she was known by all, was a junior at Severna Park High School and active in athletic and scholastic endeavors. She was inducted into the National Honor Society in her sophomore year and maintained a 4.2 grade point average. Barbie was a member of the S.P.H.S. varsity field hockey team, junior varsity basketball team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Student Government Association. She had received the Minds in Motion award for the last three years, a recognition of athletes who excel scholastically.
Barbie excelled not only in school, but also outside of it. She was selected to attend the 1999 National Leadership Forum on Medicine, and was aspiring to a career in veterinary medicine. Barbie's passion for community service was honored in 1998 by the Severna Park Optimists when she was awarded their Youth Recognition Award. She exemplified tenets of the Optimist's Creed as she gave every living creature a smile and was just as enthusiastic about her friends' successes and happiness as her own.
Some of Barbie's happiest summers were spent building houses with Woodwork, her church's Habitat for Humanity organization. Because of her strong faith and love for youth activities, memorial contributions may be made to Woods Memorial Fund for Barbie Morgan, Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard, Severna Park, MD 21146.
Survivors include her parents, Walter Truett Morgan, Jr. and Madeline Timberlake Morgan of Severna Park, Maryland; her sister, Sally Timberlake Morgan and her brother, Walter Vernon Morgan, both of Severna Park; her maternal grandmother, Margaret Durfey Timberlake of Alexandria, Virginia, formerly of Raleigh, NC; paternal grandparents, Walter Truett and Bessie Butt Morgan of Wilmington, NC; and five aunts and uncles and thirteen cousins.
Interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday, January 11, 1999 at Oakwood Cemetry, Raleigh, NC.
Service by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.

DORIS B. MOSS FEB. 17, 1923-JAN. 9, 1999
GARNER -- Doris Brown Moss, 75, of Route 1, Eastanollee, GA, died Saturday. Funeral 2 p.m. Monday at Whitlock Mortuary, Toccoa, GA. Burial, Allen's United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Surviving in the Garner area: a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Betty Moss of Garner; and two granddaughters, Sherry Moss Mitchell and Mandy Moss, both of Garner.
The family will be at the Whitlock Mortuary, Toccoa, GA, 7-9 p.m. today.

OLETA C. NORWOOD
CHARLOTTE -- Mrs. Oleta Church Norwood, 79, of 3420 Shamrock Drive, formerly of Norwood, died Saturday morning, January 9, 1999 in Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.
Funeral 2 p.m. Monday, First United Methodist Church, Norwood, with Rev. Eddie Black. Burial, Norwood Cemetery, Norwood.
She was born January 26, 1919 in Wilkes County, daughter of the late Jessie Calvin Church and Eulala Foster Church. She graduated from Greensboro College and was a retired elementary school teacher and assistant principal, having taught at Norwood School for more than 20 years. She was a member of Norwood First United Methodist Church and also Delta Kappa Gamma.
She was married icon to the late William Thomas Norwood Sr.
Survivorsinclude, Dr. W. Thomas Norwood Jr. of Albemarle; daughter, Mrs. Frances Norwood McClain of Raleigh; brother, Harlan Church of Bristol, Virginia.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.
Memorials to the Methodist Home, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte; or First Methodist Church, P.O. Box 948, Norwood N.C. 28128.

ASHLEY CARLTON "BERT' PAGE SEPT. 30, 1921 - JAN. 8, 1999
WILSON -- Ashley Carlton "Bert" Page, 77, of Wilson, died Friday, January 8, 1999. He was a member and Deacon of Milbournie Free Will Baptist Church, retired farmer and Federal tobacco grader, veteran of WWII, and a member of Mt. Lebanon Lodge 117 and the American Legion.
Surviving: wife, Daphne Lamm Page; daughters and sons-in-law, Kaye and Doug Repass of Wilson, Janet and Charles Lewis Barnes of Rock Ridge and Deborah and Elmer Sutton of Elm City; sisters, Bessie Pearson of Wilson, Frances Ellis of Sims; Josephine Joyner of Sims, and Dorothy McKeel of Wilson; grandchildren, Todd Repass, Ashley Barnes, Elizabeth Barnes and Heather Kyle, Natalie Sutton and Jeremy Sutton.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 US 264 West. Rev. Richard Holmes and Rev. Curtis Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

RALPH H. PEARCE JULY 30, 1932 - JAN. 9, 1999
WAKE FOREST -- At 3 p.m. on January 9, 1999, Ralph Haywood Pearce of 4141 Burlington Mill Road passed away.
Ralph retired from Southern Bell in 1984 after 33 years of service. He was an Army Veteran.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 11, 1999 in the Rolesville Baptist Church with the Rev. J. Marshall Neathery officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Virginia Pearce; son, Gary Lynn Pearce and wife, Grae Woodlief Pearce, loving grandsons, Bryan Grayson Pearce and Brenden Douglas Pearce, all of Wake Forest; sisters, Luna Marshall, Elsie Shearon and Mary Lee, all of Wake Forest; brother, Everette Pearce of Youngsville.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Pearl Pearce; sister, Vera Broughton; brothers, Bruce, Frank, James Ray and Bill.
Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Rolesville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 185, Rolesville, N.C. 27571; or to the Duke Memory Disorder Clinic.
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 1999.

I. Wesley PEARCE SR.
GOLDSBORO -- Ivan Wesley Pearce, Sr., 75, formerly of Zebulon died Friday.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Massey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Masonic Rites at the Pearce Family Cemetery, Clyde Pearce Rd., Zebulon.
Surviving: daughter, Drucilla P. Blake of Goldsboro; son, Mike Pearce of Goldsboro; sisters, Vivian Boswell of Kenly, Geraldine Sanders of New Bern and Imogene Long of Zebulon; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home; other times at the home of Imogene Long, 1007 S. Arendell Ave., Zebulon.

WILLIAM W. PERSON
RALEIGH -- WilliamW. Person of 528 Dorethea Drive, son of the late Levin Person and Mrs. Mary Edna Alston Person, born January 20, 1924 in Vance County, was called home on Monday, January 4, 1999.
Mrs. Person moved to Wake County at an early age and attended Wake County public schools. In January 1942 he was inducted into the US Army. During his three years, service, he received the Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed with State Distributors, which later became Empire of North Carolina for 45 years.
Memorial service will be held Monday, January 11, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Haywood Funeral Home chapel.
He leaves to cherish his memory a son, William P. Williams of Oxford; sisters, Mrs. Berdie P. Hunter of Raleigh, and Mrs. Annie E. Smith of Durham; three nieces, a nephew and a host of other relatives and friends.
