LESSIE MURPHY SELLERS
SELMA - Lessie Murphy Sellers, 84, died Thursday. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with burial following in Selma Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are: a son, Randy Sellers of Selma; daughters, Barbara Darden of Swansboro, Linda Creech of Smithfield, and Peggy Madsen of McKinney, TX; a sister, Lucretia Hocutt of Wendell; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday night from 7-9 p.m.

AUDREY LORENE SINGER
RALEIGH - Audrey Lorene Singer, 79, of Raleigh, died January 14, 1999.
Audrey was born in Concordia, Kansas on June 26, 1919. She married James Singer on February 1, 1942. They lived in Falls Church Virginia for 40 years, before moving to Raleigh in 1995. Audrey was a loving wife, Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. she will be greatly missed.
Audrey is survived by her husband of 57 years, James R. Singer of Raleigh; daughter, Teresa Ramey of Elon College; son, Stephen Singer of Chicago, Ill.; daughter, Debra Kovach of Ridgewood, N.J.; daughter, Faith Calbeck of Alexandria, La; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Rd.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 6612 Creedmoor Rd., Raleigh, N.C. 27613.

T. GORDON SORRELL
NOV. 13, 1920-JAN. 15, 1999
RALEIGH - Thomas Gordon Sorrell, 78, of 10116 Ten Ten Road, a retired retail supervisor with Pine State Creamery, died Friday. He had been a member of Holland's United Methodist Church for 65 years and was a lifetime Director with the NC Fox Hunters Assn. An avid fox hunter, Mr. Sorrell won both the NC State and US Open Fox Hound Field Trials. During his 3 1/2 years in the U.S. Army during WWII, he was stationed at Camp Breckenridge, KY as a Master Sergeant, where he met and married his wife, Margaret.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Holland's United Methodist Church. Burial, Church Cemetery.
Surviving: his wife of 54 years, Margaret Conrad Sorrell; daughters, Becky Stephenson and her husband, Jimmy Stephenson, Dale Sauls and her husband, Gary Sauls, and Jane Sorrell, all of Raleigh; a brother, Ray Sorrell and his wife, Betty Sorrell of Raleigh; grandchildren, Glenn Stephenson, Chris Stephenson, Tracie Sauls, and April Sauls; and a great-grandson, Bradley Thomas Stephenson.
Visitation, 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Holland's United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 9433 Ten Ten Road, Raleigh, NC 27603.

REBA P. WEAVER
AUG. 28, 1919 - JAN. 15, 1999
ANGIER - Reba Parrish Weaver, 79, of 305 Carol Street, Carrboro, NC, formerly of Angier, died Friday at NC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Angier. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Weaver is survived by daughters, Shirley W. Harmon of Carrboro, Margie W. Martinez and husband Bill of Chapel Hill, Shelby W. Woodall and husband Harold of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and family from 2-3 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier.

SHIRLEY WITTENBERG
DURHAM - Mrs. Shirley Wittenberg, 68, of Durham, died Friday morning in the Triangle Hospice Inpatient Facility at the Meadowlands.
Mrs. Wittenberg was a native of Brooklyn, New York. She and her husband moved to Durham from New York in 1980.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon on Sunday at the Judea Reform Cemetery, Orange County.
Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Stanley Wittenberg; son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Honey Wittenberg of Cary; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Warren Gintis of Cary; four grand children, Haley and Andrew Gintis and Morgan and Erica Wittenberg; two sisters, Rachel Mandell and Miriam Lisi.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Triangle Hospice, 1804 MLK, Jr. Parkway, Suite 112, Durham, NC 27707.
Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES "BART" CHAVIS JR.
RALEIGH - James E. Chavis Jr. "Bart", 53, of 5208 Six Forks Rd., died Friday, January 15, 1999 in Wake Medical Center. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of God of Prophecy, State Street. Burial will be at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
Surviving: wife, Lucy Chavis; son, James Jr.; daughters, Lavern McMillian, Pamela Chavis and Vertina Royster; sisters, Shirley Leach, Rosa Sutton; brothers, Linwood Chavis; six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

NORA Y. PERKINS
ROXBORO - Nora Young Perkins, 92, died Jan. 18, 1999 in Raleigh. Mrs. Perkins was born in Person County and lived in Roxboro, where she was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church. More recently, she had lived at Independence Village Retirement Home in Raleigh and at Sunrise of Raleigh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.K. Young, and by her husband, George R. Perkins.
Survivors include: son, George R. Perkins Jr. of Sanford and wife, Hazel; daughters, Nancy P. Edwards of Raleigh and husband, Bob, Susan P. Meshaw of Raleigh and husband, Dewey. Also surviving are grandchildren, George R. Perkins III, John Perkins, Mark Perkins, Greg Perkins, Carol Edwards and Susan Edwards; two great-grandchildren, Layton Perkins and George R. Perkins IV. Mrs. Perkins is also survived by three sisters, Janice Y. Murray of Roxboro, Myrtle Y. Russell of Greensboro, Ann Y. Coats of Dunn; four brothers, Edward Young of Matthews, Robert Young of Moberly, MO, Ryland Young and Wallace Young, both of Greensboro, as well as brother-in-law, John E. Perkins of Roxboro; sisters-in-law, Anne P. Lojko of Greensboro, Mary Clay Perkins of Florida.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999 at Providence Baptist Church in Roxboro. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999 at Brooks & White Funeral Home in Roxboro.
Friends who wish may send flowers or contribute to the George R. and Nora Perkins Scholarship Fund of Providence Baptist Church.

DR. SARA DENT
HILLSBOROUGH - Dr. Sara Dent, whose lifetime was spent in the medical speciality anesthesiology, died Saturday, January 16, 1999 in her Hillsborough home.
Interment will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Hillsborough. The Rev. Brooks Graebner will officiate.
Dr. Dent was the only female of 1945 graduating class of the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. A residency was completed at Greenville General Hospital and Dr. Dent entered private practice for six years in Union, SC.
After completing a residency in anesthesia at Duke University Hospital, 1953, Dr. Dent began a 34 year long association with Duke. As professor and chairman Protem of the anesthesiology 1965-1970, Dr. Dent directed the transition of Anesthesiology from a division surgery to a fully recognized department of Duke Hospital.
Dr. Dent served as a Professor of Anesthesia until her retirement in 1987. The Sara J. Dent Lectureship was established for nurse anesthetist in her honor.
She served as Medical Director of Northern Orange County Squad. In retirement, Dr. Dent returned to private practice in Hillsborough assisting Dr. Robert Murphy
A long time member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church Hillsborough, Dr. Dent served on the vestry and choir.
The family requests memorials be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Hillsborough or Orange Co. Rescue Squad, Hillsborough.

FREDERICK "FRED" DICKERSON
WAKE FOREST - Frederick S. "Fred" Dickerson, 56, of 780 Durham Road, died Sunday, January 17, 1999 at Raleigh Community Hospital. He was born in Franklin County and was employed in the trucking industry for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, January 20, 1999 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Dickerson is survived by his wife, Linda Bunn Dickerson; daughter, Anita Dickerson of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Don and Donna Dickerson of Angier, mother, Gladys Cash Dickerson of Wake Forest; sister, Hazel Johnson of Rolesville; brothers, Harold Dickerson and his wife, Helen of Rolesville and Phil Dickerson of Wake Forest; granddaughters, Katie and Kandess Dickerson; 3 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Dickerson.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

KENNETH F. ENNIS, SR.
ANGIER - Kenneth F. Ennis Sr., 54, died Sunday. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday, Saints Delight Pentecostal FreeWill Baptist Church with Rev. Benny Smith officiating. Burial, Angier Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: daughter, Karen Weathers of Fuquay-Varina; son, Kenneth F. Ennis Jr. of Fuquay-Varina; sister, Joyce Hall of Locus; brother, LeRoy Ennis of Washington State; four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Overby-Johnson Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. today.

EDWARD E. "PETE" EVERETT
DEC. 4, 1919-JAN. 18, 1999
GARNER - Edward Exum "Pete" Everett, 79, of 1306 Frederick Drive, a retired employee of the Purchasing Contract Dept. of the NC Dept. of Administration, died Monday. Born in Perquimans Co., he was raised in Edenton. He was a member of the Garner United Methodist Church and the Raleigh Sports Club. A graduate of Porter military Academy in Charleston, SC and a graduate of East Carolina University, he was an avid supporter and one of the founding members of the ECTC Club. Mr. Everett taught school and coached in Washington, NC and coached little league ball in the Garner area for several years. He also was a World War II Veteran serving as a Army Combat Engineer.
Funeral service, 1 p.m. Thursday at Garner United Methodist Church. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving: wife, Ruby Hawkins Everett; daughter, Blair Everett Hughes and her husband, John Hughes of Raleigh; son, Edward Exum Everett, Jr. and his wife, Kay Everett of Hong Kong; sister, Ethelyn E. Ligon of Raleigh; grandson, Grant Parker Everett of Hong Kong.
Visitation 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.

MARGARET "BECKY" FLYE
RALEIGH - Margaret "Becky" Flye, 76, of 113 W. Drewry Lane, Raleigh, died Sunday, January 17, 1999 after a brief illness. She was a native of Raleigh and the daughter of Lottie and John Beck. She graduated from Hugh Morson High School and attended Meredith College. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at White Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. Albert Edwards and Dr. Art Ross officiating. Entombment will be at Oakwood Mausoleum, Raleigh.
She was predeceased in death by a son, Robert "Robbie" B. Flye Jr.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Robert Braxton Flye Sr.; daughter, Margaret Flye Barringer Willis and husband, Roger Willis; sisters, Evelyn Lloyd of Laurens, N.Y., Kathryn Warner of Lumberton, Patricia Ferrell of Raleigh; brother, Robert Beck of Imperial Beach, Calif.; nephew, Andy Lanier of Crescent, Fla.; niece, Jean Elizabeth Flye of the home.
Memorials may be made to the Shepherds Table Soup Kitchen, 125 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, N.C. 27603 or the Pastor's Fund of White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27608.

HERBERT ELZAR FOREMAN III
RALEIGH - Mr. Herbert Elzar Foreman, III of 2401 Countrywood Road died January 16, 1999. Mr. Foreman was owner/manager of Foreman's Automotive, Inc. Service will be Wednesday, January 20, 1999 at 1 p.m. at Lea Funeral Home Chapel. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Margaret V. Foreman of the home; sons, Matthew Herbert Foreman of Raleigh and James "Michael" Elzar Foreman of the home; mother, Mattie W. Foreman of Plainfield, NJ; sister, Mrs. Viviyanna Foreman Turk of Plainfield, NJ; sisters-in-law, Carolyn V. Rose, Kay Vincent, and Phyllis Vincent all of Silver Springs, MD, and Patricia T. Vincent of Pinehurst, NC; brothers-in-law, Oscar Lee Turk of Plainfield, NJ and Claude P. Vincent of Pinehurst, NC; grandchild, Tyrik J. Stewart of Winston Salem, NC. Also surviving: one aunt, Addie Foreman Spence of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; mother-in-law, Christine Rogers Vincent of Hoffman, NC; five nieces; four nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

FEB. 29, 1968 - JAN. 17, 1999
KNIGHTDALE - William Allen Freeman, 30, of 8209 Poole Rd., died Sunday afternoon in an auto accident. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Central Baptist Church. Burial in the church cemetery.
Surviving: parents, Wade and Mary Freeman of Knightdale; fiancee, Teresa Turner of Knightdale; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wade and Carol Freeman, Jr. of Raleigh, Rickey and Michele Freeman of Wendell, John T. and Teresa Freeman of Wendell; sister, Barbara Edgerton of Greenville; nieces and nephews, Mark and Steven Freeman, Melissa and Nicholas Freeman, Joey and Sharon Edgerton, Kelly and Tera Freeman; his dog, Ranger.

The family will receive friends from 7 til 9 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, other times at the home of John T. And Teresa Freeman, 6728 Lake Myra Rd., Wendell.
