Marilyn's being and life are celebrated by her children, Deanna and Darren Danko; her mother, Martha Sowa; her sisters, Jeanette, Carmen, Shirley, and Nancy; and many dear loved ones and friends. She sang for several years with the Durham Chorale, ushered at the historic Carolina Theatre, acted as a docent for the Historic Preservation Society's Old Home Tours, volunteered behind the scenes for Light Up Durham by taking care of the Radio City Rockettes the two years they were in town, volunteered office skills for Rails to Trails, offered her talents as a lector at her parish, and helped her friends and neighbors whenever she was able. Two of Marilyn's strongest ties were evident in her work: she loved to cook, and worked as a gourmet cooking instructor for several years; later she discovered her enjoyment of interacting with students and families in her role as business manager for her parish high school. Marilyn loved the outdoors, and frequently visited the Duke Gardens, took excursions to the beach or mountains whenever possible, and enjoyed camping trips throughout the United States.
