FRANK M. CREEL
DURHAM - Frank M. Creel, 76, of 157 Montrose Drive, died Saturday morning.
Born in Moore County, Mr. Creel was the son of the late Melvin Masemore and Alliene Thomas Creel. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. After the war he was employed with Seaboard Airline Railroads. In 1957, Mr. Creel joined with the Public Service Company of N.C., Inc. He held many positions with them and retired after 35 years of service as Senior Vice President of Eastern Operations.
Mr. Creel believed in giving back to his community and his gifts of service are numerous. He was a past president of the Exchange Club of Durham, Sales and Marketing Executives, Museum of Life and Science, Durham Engineers Club, Durham Merchants Association, and the Southeast Gas Association. He found the time to volunteer as a Director the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, The Greater Durham Economic Development Corporation, the New Durham Development Council, and the Durham Exchange Club Industries, Inc., American Gas Association and the Southern Gas Association.
Mr. Creel was a active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. He served on the Church Vestry and was a Junior Warden.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Murdock Creel; three daughters, Jo Creel Jerman and husband, William of Goldsboro, Kathy Creel Pope and husband, Roger of Chapel Hill and Christine Pickard Bishop and husband, Neil of Durham; one brother, Wrenn Creel of Greer, S.C.; one sister, Ann Creel Goldman of Sheridan, WY; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Ryland Bishop of Durham.
Mr. Creel was predeceased by a son, Frank David Creel.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Samuel A. Mason, the Rev. William H. Marchl III, and Rev. Dr. W. Derek Shows.
A reception will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church following the service. At all other times, the family will receive friends at Mr. Creel's home, 157 Montrose Drive.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 82 Kimberly Dr. Durham, N.C. 27707; or the American Cancer Society, 3500 Westgate Dr., Suite 201, Durham, N.C. 27707.

LYNN RAE DEAN
NORTH WILKESBORO - Mrs. Lynn Rae Dean, 47, wife of Stanley Dean of Mills Ridge Road, died Thursday, March 4, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Dean was born December 8, 1951 in Pittsburg, PA to Wallace and Betty Hoey Roland.
Surviving are husband at her home; her mother and father of Pittsboro; daughters, Heather Renee' Rathey of Wilkesboro, Crystal Lynn Dean and Tara Michelle Dean, both of the home; brother, Jeff Roland of Pittsboro; sisters, Bonnie Pitzer of Goldsboro, Christie Anthony of Gastonia.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999 at Bright Funeral Home chapel, 405 South Main Street, Wake Forest, NC with William H. Dail officiating.

JAMES T. DICK SR.
MEBANE - James T. Dick Sr., 92, of 707 S. Fifth Street in Mebane, died at Alamance Regional Hospital on Sunday, March 7th, after a brief illness. A native of Mebane, he was the husband of the late Flora B. Dick and the son of J.T. and Mary Louise Dick of Mebane, both deceased.
A retired textile chemist, he attended NC State University from 1925-1929 and was an avid Wolfpack fan. He was a member and former deacon of Mebane Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in chemical warfare.
He is survived by his son, James (Jay) T. Dick Jr. and daughter-in-law Janice J. Dick of Raleigh; one sister, Louise Davis of Mebane; three sisters-in-law, Grace Dick and Gene B. Cothran of Mebane and Cecil C. Dick of Sarasota, FL; niece Patricia Gibson of Greensboro, nephews James A. Dick of Mebane, John S. Dick Jr. of Akron, Ohio, John F. Brown of Finecastle, VA, Robert H. Brown of Burke, VA, James E. Brown of Midland, TX and Richard O. Brown of Greensboro.
The funeral is at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Walker's Funeral Home in the Mebane Chapel, conducted by Dr. Ed Wilson.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Walker's in Mebane.

WILLIAM "BUD" W. DOVE
SELMA - William "Bud" Washington Dove, 81, 699 Price Road, Selma, died Monday, March 8, 1999.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday at Norman Screws Chapel of Family Funeral Care, Zebulon. Burial in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Franklin County.
Surviving: brother, Burk Dove of Selma; aunt, Bessie Grissom of Youngsville; cousin, Edward Lee Grissom of Youngsville; care-giver, Addie Francis Perry of Selma; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, 3-7 p.m. at Family Funeral Care, 1201 N. Arendell Avenue, Zebulon, N.C. 269-9377.

MAGGIE C. HERNDON
DURHAM - Mrs. Maggie Cash Herndon, 88, of Massey Chapel Road, died Monday afternoon at Durham Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Herndon was born and raised in Granville County. She was educated in the Granville County schools. She was employed by Colonial Stores Warehouse, Inc. for 25 years before working for the Durham County Schools, retiring in 1976. Mrs. Herndon was a member of Lowe's Grove Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Alphus Sanders Herndon, Sr. of the home; son, Alphus Herndon, Jr.; daughter, Edna H. Smith; grandchildren, Tommy Herndon, Susan Herndon; sister, Stella Roberts, all of Durham, a niece and a nephew.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 10, at Lowe's Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Forest M. Gale, Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors Tuesday night from 7-9 p.m. at Howerton-Bryan Funeral Home.
Contributions may be made to Lowe's Grove Baptist Church Parking Lot Fund, 4430 S. Alston Avenue, Durham, NC 27713 or flowers will be accepted.
Pallbearers will be Jim Duke, Billy Herndon, Kenneth Herndon, Steve Herndon, Billy Roberts, John Roberts, E.H. Roberts, Wayne Watson.

KATE SASSER LOCKAMY
CLAYTON - Kate Sasser Lockamy, 83, of 521 O'Neil St., died Monday. Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Maplewood Cemetery. Dr. John Allen officiating.
She is survived by: daughter, Helen Sealey Childress of Belhaven; brother, Travis Sasser of Clayton; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to: First Baptist Church Building Fund, 120 E. Whittaker St., Clayton, NC 27520.

ANNE LEE BAKER LUCAS
ROCKY MOUNT - Anne Lee Baker Lucas, 83, died Sunday, March 7, 1999. She was born October 28, 1915 in Nash County, the daughter of the late Hugh Dena Baker and Sallie Williams Baker. Mrs. Lucas worked many years for the Rocky Mount City School System as a dietitian. She retired from Burlington Industries in 1983.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Harold Lucas and by her brothers Hugh Baker and Marion Baker and by her sister Dena Lancaster.
She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Anne and Ray Congelli of Rocky Mount, Alice and Dennis Bennett and Sally and John Stewart both of Fuquay-Varina; eight grandchildren, Debra Slavin, Pam Mullen, Bobbie Joe Winstead, Ashley Miller, Paige Bennett, Jamie Bennett, Bradley Stewart and Susan Stewart; and seven great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha Doles and Sally Brown of Rocky Mount, Betty and Robert Avent of Atlanta, GA and Lula and Robert Robbins of Sharpsburg; sister-in-law Jessie Baker.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at Bowling Funeral Home with Rev. Coye Still officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bowling Funeral Home, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC.

PAULINE K. MARTIN
APEX - Pauline Keith Martin, 91, of Apex, died Sunday at Western Wake Hospital due to an extended illness.
She was a devoted member to the Salem Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Belvin Martin in 1974.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 1999 in the Salem Baptist Church by Pastor Jeff Beckett and Rev. William T. Mills. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving: two daughters, Charlotte M. West of Fuquay-Varina, Phyllis M. Bernstein; husband, William of Winston-Salem; son, Roy Barker Martin of Fuquay-Varina; sister, Laura A. McFarland of Wenonah, N.J.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Salem Baptist Church, 1200 Salem Church Road, Apex, N.C. 27502.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999 today at Apex Funeral Home, 511 W. Williams St., Highway 55, Apex, N.C.

EMMA H. McDANIEL
DURHAM - Mrs. Emma Pugh Holloway McDaniel, 71, a resident of 2817 Broad St., died Sunday afternoon at Durham Regional Hospital following declining health.
She was the daughter of the late Charlie Thomas Pugh and Eliza Holt Pugh. Mrs. McDaniel was predeceased by her brother, Henry Pugh. She was born in Person County and has been a resident of Durham for the past 50 years. Mrs. McDaniel was a retired employee of Erwin Mills. Following retirement, she was employed by Eno Fish Camp and the Blair House. Mrs. McDaniel was a member of Pleasant Green UMC.
Surviving are her husband, Edward E. "Yank" McDaniel; daughter, Wanda H. Stephenson of Raleigh; son, Mickey Holloway of Durham; stepdaughter, Dee Dee McDaniels of Salisbury; stepsons, Eddie McDaniel of Salisbury and Terry McDaniel of Mocksville; sisters, Lonie Pugh Kanak and Edith Pugh Tyson, both of Richmond, Va.; brother, Robert Thomas Pugh of Durham; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Green United Methodist Church by Rev. Larry Bowden. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

C. DAVID OLIVE
SMITHFIELD - Charles David Olive, 86, died Sunday.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Sardis Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel Wheeless Olive; daughters, Jo Ann Hill of Dover and Bonnie Barnhill of Cary; sister, Mary Whitley of Smithfield; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Sardis Baptist Church, c/o Phyllis Toole, 7756 Brogden Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.

DORIS JEAN B. PLEASANT
BENSON - Mrs. Doris Jean Bowling Pleasant, 67, of 8843-B NC Highway 50 North, died Sunday at Betsy Johnson Hospital, Dunn. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Devotional Gardens, Dunn. Officiating will be Mr. Albert Gregory.
Mrs. Pleasant was born in Harnett County, September 3, 1931, to the late Roy Edgar and Onnie Smith Bowling. She was married to the late Joseph Clarence Pleasant. Mrs. Pleasant was a homemaker, and she and her husband owned and operated Pleasant's Grocery.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Jeff Newton of Cary; son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Kathy Pleasant of Benson; sisters, Lucille Warner of Parma, MI, Rosa Lee Stallings of Baltimore, MD, Iva Dare Lee of Richmond, VA, Betty Gregory of Coats, Ellen Whitlow of Taneytowne, MD, Gladys Watkins of Punta Guarda, FL, Katie Byrd and Carolyn McGee, both of Benson; grandchildren, Bridget Maupin, Kasey Pleasant, Erin Woodall, Shane Pleasant; great-grandson, Caleb Maupin.

MARCELLUS B. POPE JR.
NEW BERN - Mr. Marcellus Blackman Pope Jr. died Monday March 8, 1999 in New Bern. Mr. Pope was born March 7, 1909, the son of the late Marcellus Blackman and Mary Jane Boney Pope.
A lifelong resident of Wallace, he owned and operated Wallace Dry Cleaners with his brother, James Willis Pope, for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Wallace, a 32-degree Mason and Shriner and for 42 years was a member of the Wallace Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Johnston Pope and his brothers, Graham Pope and James Willis Pope.
Surviving include his son and daughter-in-law, Marcellus B. Pope III and wife, Daphne of New Bern; two grandsons, Marcellus B. Pope IV of Wilmington, William Bordeaux Pope of New Bern.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Rockfish Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, from the First Baptist Church of Wallace with the Rev. Dennis N. Bazemore officiating.
The family will receive at the Padgett Funeral Home, 7-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to the Rockfish Cemetery Maintenance Association, c/o Mrs. Nell F. Simmons, Treas., 514 E. Murphy St., Wallace, N.C. 28466.
