ELIZABETH BIDDLE "EBBIE" GIBBS
MARION - Elizabeth Biddle "Ebbie" Gibbs, 87, of Marion, died Wednesday at Memorial Mission Hospital. She was born February 7, 1912 in Craven County, NC.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, April 3,1999 at Westmoreland Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 1999 at Westmoreland Chapel. Rev. Mike Holder officiating. Burial, Oak Grove Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to: First United Methodist Church of Marion, 511 Robert St., Marion, NC 28752.
She was preceded in death by her father John Kenneth Biddle, mother Nannie Barwick Biddle.
Surviving: husband, H. Bruce Gibbs; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marion and a retired teacher with the McDowell County School System.

VIRGINIA HATTON HOCK
RALEIGH - Virginia Hatton Hock, 80, died Wednesday, March 31, after a long illness.
She was born Virginia Lee Hatton on September 23, 1918, in Baltimore, Maryland. She lived most of her life in Richmond, VA., and was the devoted wife for 56 years to the late Raymond Paul Hock Sr.
Mrs. Hock was an active member of the Richmond Catholic Woman's Club and a volunteer for the Richmond Meals-on-Wheels program for many years. She was named Volunteer of the Year for Meals-on-Wheels in 1991.
She is survived by her sister and best friend, Jean Hatton Lugar of Richmond, Virginia. She was loving mother of five sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond Paul Jr., and Linda Johnson Hock, George Hatton and Johlyn Fleet Hock, all of Raleigh, James Richard and Nancy Dawson Hock, of Richmond, Va., Michael Joseph and Joanne Stulz Hock of Cincinnati, Ohio, and John Thomas and Janice Metzger Hock of Asheville. She was a proud and loving grandmother of 12 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 2, at Bennetts Funeral Home, 3215, Cutshaw Avenue, Richmond, Va.
A memorial service will be held at Bennetts Chapel on Saturday, April 3, 10 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Mt. Calvery Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richmond Meals on Wheels program or St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Richmond, Va.

DOROTHY GREEN HOCKADAY
ROANOKE RAPIDS - Dorothy Green Hockaday, 77, Hwy 158, died Wednesday a.m. at Halifax Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Hockaday was a lifelong member of Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Aurelian Springs School and East Carolina University. Mrs. Hockaday then taught elementary school in Aurelian Springs and Roanoke Rapids, NC for many years. Mrs. Hockaday was also owner and operator of Hockaday Florist until her retirement. She was co-founder and former owner of Hockaday Funeral Home where she was a Funeral Director. Perhaps her greatest accomplishments were the lives that she changed that she loved so much.
Mrs. Hockaday was born in Halifax Co. May 24, 1921,daughter of the late William Baldy Green and Lily Elizabeth Strauther. She was the widow of the late Leonard R. Hockaday, Sr.
Mrs. Hockaday was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Ellen, and a brother, William B. Green.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 1999 at Hockaday Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Aydlett and Rev. Peter Belec officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Linda Hockaday of Roanoke Rapids, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Jim Harding of Raleigh, NC; sister, Mary G. Jones of Nashville, NC; three grandchildren, Hunter, Susan, and Graham Harding all of Raleigh, NC.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-9:00 p.m. Friday at the Hockaday Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son Ray at 51 Colonial Dr., Roanoke Rapids, NC.

PAUL M. JONES
NOV. 23, 1920 - MAR. 31, 1999
ANGIER - Paul Madison Jones, 78, of 2246 Old Buies Creek Road, a retired farmer, died Wednesday.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Angier. Burial, Hockaday Family Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Doris Hockaday Jones; sons, Jerry M. Jones and his wife, Sharlene J. Jones of Angier, Donnie N. Jones and his wife, Yvonne Jones of Pearland, TX; sisters, Margaret J. Burnett of Fuquay-Varina, Ruthlene J. Dean of Angier and Elizabeth J. Yates of Cary; brothers, Thomas Jones, William Jones, Jack Jones, all of Fuquay-Varina and Buck Jones of Raleigh; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation: 7-9 today at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier.

PAUL JOSEPH MASQUELIER
FUQUAY-VARINA - Paul Joseph Masquelier, 43, went to Heaven on Tuesday, March 30, at UNC Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Originally from Chicago, Paul had lived in North Carolina for many years, first in the Asheville area, then Garner and Fuquay-Varina since 1993. He had worked as a reporter with WFBC-TV of Greenville, SC, several sales positions, and was currently employed with Tri-State Trading Inc. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he earned a degree in Radio and TV.
Paul was a devoted animal lover who did not hesitate to add one more to the collection. An avid breeder of exotic birds, he was most at home when working and caring for his many birds, cats, and dogs. He was also a sports fan who pulled for his beloved Tar Heels.
Paul is survived by his mother and stepfather, Audrey and Robert Ewing; sisters, Tami and Terri Masquelier, all of Chicago; sister, Jean Keelan of Tampa, FL; father, Paul Masquelier of Las Vegas, NV; one niece and three nephews. He is also survived by special friend Cary Powell of the home.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening beginning at 6:30p.m. at the home, 5057 Christian Light Rd., Fuquay-Varina. Friends and loved ones are welcome at any time.
A funeral mass will will be held Wed., April 7, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Pius X Church in Lombard, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to NC Veterinary Medical Foundation, Inc. attn: for Parrot Medicine, 4700 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, NC 27606.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.

FRANK JOSEPH MEYER III
MARCH 26, 1999 - MARCH 31, 1999
GARNER - Frank Joseph Meyer III of 5620 Raynor Road, died at Wake Medical Center on Wednesday.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Survivors: mother and father, Mary Sue and Robert P. Meyer of Garner; sister, Casey L. Meyer of the home; maternal grandparents, Wanda and Claude White of Spring City, TN.; maternal great-grandmother, Hazel Osborne and Zelma White, both of Spring City, TN.; five aunts and eight uncles.
Visitation for family and friends will be today from 7-9 p.m. at Montlawn Funeral Home, Raleigh, North Carolina.

JOSEPHINE PEARCE MIMS
WAKE FOREST - Funeral, 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 1999 at Wake Forest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday evening and other times at the home of William and Pat Mims.

THOMAS J. PORTER
TARBORO - Thomas J. Porter, 83, died April 1, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. For the past few months he has been a residence at Monorhouse at Winston-Salem. He was born February 3, 1916 in Vaughn, NC to the late Sally E. Powers and Thomas J. Porter. His foster parents in Enfield, where he grew up were Myrtle Virginia Porter Powers and James Robert Powers. He attended Campbell College and during WWII served in the Army-Air Force. He was with Carolina Telephone & Telegraph Co. for 33 years and retired in 1981. He was a member of Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, Masons, Kiwanis, Golden K., East Carolina Engineers Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emelie Rose Brown Porter; daughter, Barbara Jean; brother, Henry and sister, Birdie Marshall.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas J. and Judith Porter, Jr. of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Jane and Matthew Porter, both of Winston-Salem; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ranes of Williamsburg, VA; nieces, Margaret Ann Beach of Tarboro, Lea Abercrombie of Williamsburg, VA, Lynn Johnson of Lacey, WA, Betty Gannon of Centralia, WA; nephews, Wesse Ranes of Annanpolis, MD, Bruce Ranes of Rockville, VA.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Robert E. Burns III officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, 303 E. St. James St., Tarboro, NC 27886.
Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday, Carlisle Funeral Home.

ARLENE KENT RICHARDS
YOUNGSVILLE - Arlene Kent Richards, 57, of 1246 Bethlehem Church Road, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was Secretary-Treasurer of Cade Services, Inc.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday evening, April 3, 1999 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Snipes officiating. A private burial service will be held on Sunday.
Mrs. Richards is survived by her husband, Cordell Richards; sons, Ernest Richards of Lake Royall and David Richards of Youngsville; parents, J. D. and Virginia Kent of Lynn Haven, FL; sister, Nancy Gibson of Panama City, FL; brother, Joe D. Kent of Fountain, FL.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetics Association, 3109 Poplarwood Court, Suite 125, Raleigh, NC.
The family will receive friends following the service Saturday evening.

GILBERT GRAVES SMITH
RALEIGH - Funeral service for Gilbert Graves Smith, 61, of 117 Woodburn Road, who died Tuesday, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from Pullen Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, at the home of his companion, Betty White, 2519 Wake Drive.

HELEN U. TERRILL
RIDGEWAY, OH - Helen U. Terrill, 83, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 1999 at First Presbyterian Church, Rushsylvania, OH with Rev. Forrest Amidon officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Terrill; sisters, Irene, Bernice and Mildred; brothers, Robert, Paul and Wilbur; one grandchild.
Surviving: daughters, Penny Ann (Ted) Berlin of Urbana, OH, Barbara Diane (Steve) Guider of West Mansfield; sons, Robert (Nancy) Jr. of Ridgeway, OH, Steven Lee (Debbie) of Cary, NC; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Woodrow Ulrich of Avon Lake; sister, Beatrice Young of Ridgeway, OH.
She graduated from Ridgeway High School, was a member of Rushsylvania First Presbyterian Church, Bellefontaine Chapter O.E.S. Hardin Ct. Homemakers and Hardin Memorial Hospital Guild. She lived in the Ridgeway community throughout her lifetime.
Visiting hours 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Schindewolf-Stevens-Stout Funeral Home, Kenton, OH.
Memorials may be made to Rushsylvania First Presbyterian Church.

DAISY C. WHEELER
FRANKLINTON - Daisy Cash Wheeler, age 92, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. She was born in Granville County, the daughter of James Addie Cash and Corinna Hailey Cash.
She is survived by three daughters, Mae Wheeler Cooper and husband, Walter, of Pinehurst, Lois Wheeler Edwards and husband, Leo, of Franklinton, Jackie Wheeler Hedrick and husband, Curt, of Franklinton; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Eliza Lloyd and Lillie Hall of Louisburg.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Franklinton United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev James Harry. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 Friday night at Lancaster Funeral Home and at all other times at the home of Curt and Jackie Hedrick, 219 W. Mason Street, Franklinton.

JERRY O'NEIL WILLIAMS SR.
ROCKINGHAM - Mr. Jerry O'Neil Williams Sr., 64, of 101 Pinedale Dr., died March 31, 1999 at home. Born Sept. 18, 1934 in Newport, he was the son of Robert Williams of Pikeville and the late Lena Davis Williams. He was owner of Carolina Loans Co. of Laurinburg Inc.
Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, Beverly Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Wood officiating. Intombment, Richmond Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday, Marks Funeral Home.
Survivors, wife, Kay M. Williams; son, Jerry O'Neil Williams Jr. of Greensboro; daughter, Cathy Ogburn of Greensboro; brother, Fred Williams of Cary; four grandchildren.
He was past president of Resident Lenders of N.C. He was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Beverly Hills Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sherrill Williams of Kinston and Darwin Williams of Chesapeake, VA.
