ALVIS WOODROW WILSON
BURLINGTON - Alvis Woodrow Wilson, 86, of 2262 Carolina Rd., Burlington., died early April 1, 1999 in the Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, due to a brief illness.
Mr. Wilson was a native of Chatham County, a WWII Veteran serving in the South Pacific and retired from Burlington Industries with 37 years service.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 3, 1999 at 2 p.m. in the Martha's Chapel Christian Church Cemetery, Highway 751 in Chatham County, Apex, NC, officiating will be Rev. Larry Cheek.
Surviving: daughter, Jan W. Cheek and husband, Rev. Larry Cheek of Mebane; brother, Harvey Jr. Wilson of Graham; sister, Edna Perkins of Apex; several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Alamance County, 730 Hermitage Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 2, 1999 at Apex Funeral Home, 511 West Williams St., Hwy 55 in Apex, NC; and at the graveside service Saturday, April 3, 1999.

W. AMOS BARNES
LUCAMA - W. Amos Barnes, 71, of 7421 Wheat Swamp Road, died Thursday, May 20, 1999. A retired tobacconist with Imperial Tobacco Company, he was the son of the late Clenon C. and Daisy Holland Barnes.
Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Gardner Barnes. Funeral 4 p.m. Saturday, First Presbyterian Church, Wilson, conducted by Rev. James H. McKinnon. Interment, Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson.
Surviving: daughters, Kris Barnes Boykin and her husband, R. Keith Boykin of Springfield, VA, Gretchen Barnes Dorsey of Wilson; grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Boykin, Andrew Colin Boykin, Emily Elizabeth Dorsey and Annette Coble Dorsey; sisters, Eunice Barnes of Fremont and Dorothy Bass of Lucama; brother, Clifton O. Barnes of Rocky Mount; special friend, Eleanor Roberts of LaGrange.
Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 3184, Wilson, NC 27895.

HILDA JOHNSON BOYCE
HOBBSVILLE - Hilda Johnson Boyce, 70, formerly of Hobbsville, died Friday, May 21, 1999 in Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Mrs. Boyce was born in Johnston County. The daughter of the late Arthur Haywood and Mrs. Fannie Augusta Rhodes Johnson, she has retired after 20 years as a nurse at Chowan Hospital in Edenton. She was a member of Warwick Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by her husband, Floy Glenn Boyce.
She is survived by daughters, Donna McKeithan of Bethel, Glynda Arnold of Corapeake, Sharon Sandford of Elizabeth City; sister, Hazel J. Mason of Elizabeth City; brother, Edgar P. Johnson of Clayton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Marshall H. Johnson.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday in Warwick Baptist Church by the Rev. Darrel Davis. Burial will follow in the Boyce family cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 7-8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boyce Nursing Endowment, Pitt Community College, P.O. Box 7007, Greenville, NC 27834; Attn: Carla Lewis.

THELMA STANTON HARRELL
EDENTON - Thelma Stanton Harrell, 81, of the 600 block of Yeopim Road died Thursday, May 20th in Chowan Hospital. She was the wife of the late Thomas O. Harrell, and the daughter of the late Annie and Will Stanton. She was a member of Yeopim Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Winslow of Edenton; her son, Stanton Harrell of Edenton; two sisters, Audrey Matthews and Marie Divers, both of Hertford; four grandchildren, Thomas Benjamin Harrell of Edenton, Amby Harrell Parrish of Edenton, Brent Winslow of Edenton, and Taomissa Winslow Bass of Edenton; seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Teresa Harrell Ward.
Funeral Services will be held 4 p.m. Saturday in the Evans Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Evans Funeral Home.
The Evans Funeral Home of Edenton is serving the Harrell family.

LUNA FLEMING HAYES
RALEIGH - Luna Fleming Hayes, 83, of 2018-A Smallwood Drive, died on May 21, 1999 at Rex Convalescent Center. She was the daughter of the late Alvin L. and Eula Wilson Fleming of Norlina. She was a longtime resident of Cameron Village along with her little dog "Cricket".
She is survived by daughter, Barbara Hayes Upchurch (Stuart, Sr.) of Raleigh; son, Al (Patty) Hayes of Dunnville, VA; three great-granddaughters, Barbara, Christina, and Kayla Zehia, all of Raleigh.
A private memorial service will be held at Warren-Dale Cemetery Norlina, at a later date. Remembrances may be made to the Wake County SPCA.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.

LOUISE SPONG LITTLE JOHNSTON
RALEIGH - Louise Spong Little Johnston, 83, of 127 W. Park Dr., Raleigh, died Thursday, May 20, 1999.
She was born in Charlotte, the daughter of John Phillips Little and Louise Sponge Little.
Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 22, at Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte.
She is survived by her husband, William Rodgers Johnston of Raleigh; sons, John Phillips Little Johnston and wife, Dorothy J. Johnston of High Point and Christian Belser Johnston of Raleigh; daughters, Anne J. Henderson and husband, Perrin Q. Henderson of Charlotte, Dabney J. Mann and husband, Tift Mann of Raleigh, Mary Jen Caldwell Mason and husband, Richard Mason of Raleigh, Louise J. Coffey and husband, Thomas Coffey of Naples, FL, and Pamela J. Dameron and husband, T. Barker Dameron of Raleigh; brother, William Everett Little of Charlotte; sister, Jean Little Spratt of Charlotte; 17 grandchildren, Anne Everett Henderson Yonke, William Johnston Mann, Perrin Quarles Henderson Jr., Dabney Mann Hollis, William Rogers Henderson, Sally Scott Henderson, John Phillips Little Johnston Jr., Charles Edward Maupin, Dorothy James Johnston, Richard Caldwell Mason, Ann Devereux Mason, Thomas Barker Dameron IV, William Rodgers Johnston Dameron, Laura Shelby Dameron, David Belser Dameron, Suzanna Coffey Bolick and Carolina Coffey Rogers; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to "Strolling Professor" Fund at NCSU Friends of the Library, NCSU Libraries, Box 7111, Raleigh, NC 27695-7111.

RUDOLPH WAYNE MITCHELL JR.
WENDELL - Rudolph Wayne Mitchell, 70, of 102 Harris Street, died Friday, May 21, 1999 at Wake Medical Center. Wayne had retired with the ABC Board and was the owner of Mitchells Exxon for over 30 years. Funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 1999 at Wendell Baptist Church. Burial, Greenmount Cemetery, Wendell.
Surviving: wife, Emily Adams Mitchell; son, Anthony W. Mitchell and his wife, Angie of Wendell; daughter, Regina M. Lane and her husband, Doug of Wilson; grandson, Johnathan Mitchell of Wendell; granddaughter, Morgan Rae Lane of Wilson; sisters, Joe Ann M. Horton and Peggy M. Williamson, both of Wendell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wendell Rescue Squad, Post Office Box 84, Wendell, NC 27591.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545, and other times at the home.

JAMES D. PRICE
CLAYTON - James Daniel Price, 67, died Friday, May 21, 1999. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Knollwood Memorial Park. Rev. Daniel Pate officiating.
He is survived by: wife, Peggy A. Price of Clayton; sons, Danny Price of Selma, Bill Price of New Hill, and Greg Price of Clayton; daughter, Cindy P. Purdy of Clayton; sisters, Joyce McCallum of Greenville and Doris Grey Good of Raleigh; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren.
While flowers are appreciated, memorial contributions may be made to: New Hope Baptist Church, W. Stallings St., Clayton, NC 27520.
Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

RUTH M. RUSSELL
FUQUAY-VARINA - Ruth MacClaren Russell, 80, died May 14, 1999.
Memorial Service 3 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 1999 at Windsor Point.
Surviving: husband of 56 years, Raymond Alvin Russell; sons, Ray Russell and wife Peggy of Fuquay-Varina, Daniel Russell and wife Elizabeth of East Hampton, MA; sister, Edith Pallack of Pittsburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the American Diabetes. Association, 434 Fayetteville Street, Mall, Raleigh, NC 27601.

MARY HARVEY LOVE BELVIN
RALEIGH - Mary Harvey Love Belvin, 84, of Raleigh died March 8, 1999. She was born in Brazil, the daughter of Franklin Swindell Love and Cornelia Clegg Love, who were there in mission work for the Methodist Church. She graduated from Hugh Morson High School, Peace College and Duke University, where she was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Mary Harvey was active in the Methodist Church in every community where she and her family lived, serving over her lifetime in every leadership position available to lay women. While living in Savannah, Georgia, she served twice as President of the South Georgia Conference of Methodist Women. In Savannah she also served as President of the Savannah Woman's Club. Her working experience included teaching children with dyslexia. Her main life's work was creating a happy Christian home for her husband and bringing up two fine children.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William L. Belvin of Raleigh; son, Bill Belvin, Jr. and his wife Gayle of Columbia, SC; daughter, Jeanne B. Robinson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sister, Cornelia L. Evans of Raleigh; brother, Frank S. Love, Jr. and his wife Betty of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, Vivian Buhrman and her husband Tom of Durham, Brent Belvin and his wife Suzan of Durham, Robert Belvin of Marietta, GA and Merrill Robinson of Florida.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on St. Mary's Street. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church.

FRANCES JANE KITCHIN BRANCH
RALEIGH - Frances Jane Kitchin Branch, 83, of Raleigh died March 10, 1999.
She is the daughter of the late A. Paul Kitchin and Carrie L. Kitchin of Scotland Neck, NC. Mrs. Branch was reared in Scotland Neck and graduated from Scotland Neck High School. She then moved to Raleigh and worked as a legal secretary where she met the late Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, Joseph Branch. They married and reared their family in Enfield until 1965. That year they moved to Raleigh when Justice Branch received his appointment to the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Mrs. Branch was a former president of the Sir Walter Cabinet and was instrumental in forming the Judges' Wives Club. She was an active member at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, a volunteer at the Rex Hospital Guild, and a member of the Stratford Book Club.
Mrs. Branch was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her pretty smile and blue eyes will be greatly missed by all.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 11 from 7-9 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Chief Justice Joseph Branch; a great-granddaughter, Maleia Kanekoa; and a brother, Hon. A. Paul Kitchin, U.S. Congressman.
She is survived by a son, James C. Branch and his wife, Lizbeth, of Raleigh; a daughter, Jane B. McRee and her husband, William R. McRee, also of Raleigh; a brother, Travis Kitchin of Norfolk, VA; seven grandchildren, Mary B. Kanekoa, Chad Burns, Will McRee, Elkie Branch, Caroline Branch, Joseph Branch and Jamie Branch; two great-grandchildren, Sidney Frances and Sophie Ellen.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 12, at Hayes Barton Baptist Church. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Enfield, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605.

RAYMOND FREDERICK KREINER
RALEIGH - Raymond Frederick Kreiner, 89, of Raleigh died Wednesday morning, March 10, 1999. He was born in Wapello, Iowa, graduated from Cornell College and received graduate degrees from American University in Chicago, Illinois. He was professor of music at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, Sullins College and Virginia High School, Bristol, Virginia and at Peace College in Raleigh. He was Minister of Music at First Presbyterian Church for twenty-five years and directed music for Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church and Rex Hospital School of Nursing.
He was a 50-year member of the Raleigh Kiwanis Club and a former President and member of the Raleigh Music Club.
He was preceded in death by wives, Esther Fisher of Lena, Illinois, Tora Ladu of Raleigh and is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kreiner, and sons, Karl Kreiner of Glendale, California, John Kreiner of Atlanta, GA, and Raymond Kreiner of Atlanta, GA; and stepdaughter, Rebecca Chadwick of Costa Mesa, California; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be Saturday, March 13, at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. Officiating will be Dr. Edwin W. Stock Jr.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., on Friday, March 12, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd.
Interment will be at Harrison Cemetery in Wapello, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Raymond and Esther Kreiner Music Scholarship Fund at First Presbyterian Church, Raleigh.

JAMES ROY PEARSON JR.
RALEIGH - James Roy Pearson Jr. 65, of 1737 Leigh Dr., Raleigh, died at his home on March 9, 1999 after a brief illness.
Mr. Pearson was preceded in death by his parents, J. Roy Pearson and Jane Avera Pearson.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Elizabeth Warwick of Lumberton; son, William H. Pearson of Ann Arbor, MI; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Alford and her husband, Allan of Garner; a son, James K. Pearson and his wife, the former Jean Marie Reinoso of Raleigh; four grandchildren; brother, John W. Pearson and wife, June of Mechanicsville, VA; one niece; three nephews.
Please join the family to celebrate his life, at his home from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999. There will be a private family service in the spring in Watauga County.
