DR. MARION TIMOTHY PLYLER JR.
RALEIGH - Dr. Marion Timothy Plyler Jr., 89, of 6300 Blairmore Court, died March 10, 1999 in a Convalescent Home. A native of Washington, NC. He was a member of Whaleyville United Methodist Church. Dr. Plyler graduated from Duke University in 1930. Graduated from Duke Medical School in 1934. He started work at the NC Tuberculosis Sanitarium, in McCain, NC before starting his private practice in Nashville, NC and then Whaleyville, VA from 1940 to 1975.
Dr. Plyler was preceded in death by his wife Alma Blanchard Plyler and his son Marion Timothy Plyler III.
Surviving one daughter, Martha Plyler Tracy of Raleigh; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Gatesville Cemetery by the Rev. William Kessler.
Visitation will be Friday night at Whaleyville United Methodist Church from 7-8:30 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Whaleyville United Methodist Church, 6312 Whaleyville Blvd, Suffolk, VA 23438 and the Gates County Historical Society, 115 Court Street, Gatesville, NC 27938.

EDWARD A. REGISTER
ERWIN - Mr. Edward A. Register, 64, of Erwin, died Tuesday evening at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. He was the son of the late Moses and Beulah Register.
He was owner and operator of Ed's Village Open Air Market in Erwin for a number of years.
Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Erwin Chapel Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Doris H. Register; son, Ed Register of Charleston W.Va.; two daughters, Donna Forrest of Raleigh, Rhonda West of Havelock; a brother, Bud Register of Dunn; two sisters, Barbara McClenny of Dunn, Patrick Kay Jernigan of Morehead; seven grandchildren, Reggie Jackson, Valerie Jackson, Brian Forrest, Amy West, Amanda West, Ivy Register and Madeline Register.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 Thursday night at Skinner Home.
Memorials may be sent to the Erwin Chapel Church Building Fund at 137 Erwin Chapel Rd., Dunn, N.C.28334.

ANNIE G. SASSER
COLUMBIA, MD - Annie G.H. Sasser, died March 9, 1999. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Earl L. Sasser, Sr.; beloved mother of Earl L. Sasser, Jr. and his wife, Lellani D. and the late Major George Frederick Sasser and the late Margaret Louise Sasser; dear mother-in-law of Minnie A. Sasser; dear sister of John T. Harris; loving grandmother of Earnest, Nicholas and David Sasser and Elizabeth Ann Haase. Also survived by four great-grandchildren; one niece, Virginia Swayze of Raleigh, NC.
Friends may call at the Witzke Funeral Home of Columbia, 5555 Twin Knolls Road (off Rte 175 and Thunder Hill Road), on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. Services on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Columbia Baptist Fellowship, Oakland Mills Interfaith Center, Columbia, MD. Interment 10 a.m. Minday, Columbia Memorial Park.

FLORENCE L. SCHULZ
RALEIGH - Florence Louise Emily Schulz, 101, formerly of Northville, MI, died Thursday, March 4, 1999 of natural causes. Formerly a member of the Order of the Eastern Star she was heavily involved in Christian education.
Surviving: daughter, Theone Secord and husband, Bill of Green Valley, AZ; son, Paul Schulz of Raleigh; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Cremation and burial in Detroit, MI.

JON GERHARD
RALEIGH - Jon Gerhard of 1507 Edgeside Ct., died Wed., March 31, 1999 at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Teichwolfravisdorf, Germany on Oct. 23, 1920. He served as a navigator in the US Air Force during WWII and was a POW survivor for 1 1/2 years. He was a retired Chemical Engineer for the US Environmental Protection Agency in Research Triangle Park and an employee with the News & Observer for 17 years. "Gerry" as he was known to friends and family also sang with the "LIttle German Band" of Raleigh and was a charter member of the Raleigh Raquet Club.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife, Ethel Gerhard; two children, Paul Gerhard and Heidi Gerhard Howe; five grandchildren, Andy, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Tyler and Jordan will also cherish and pass on his memory for generations to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Autism Society of North Carolina.
The family received friends 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at the Cremation Society of the Carolinas.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 1999 at the Cremation Society of the Carolinas on Millbrook Road in Raleigh. A graveside service will follow at the Historic Oakwood Cemetery in downtown Raleigh. A reception will follow at the family's residence.

W. GLENN HORTON
RALEIGH - William Glenn Horton, 57, of Raleigh, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Mr. Horton was born in Wake County the son of the late William T. and Elizabeth F. Horton.
Mr. Horton was a member of Masters Masonic Lodge #754, Board of Directors of Midstate Safety Council and of New Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Horton was employed with CP&L and retired after thirty three years of employment.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 3, 1999, in New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Fuquay-Varina, NC.
He is survived by his wife, Gail S. Horton; two sons, William G. Horton, Jr. of Garner and Patrick A. Horton of Utah; two step-sons, Jerry T. Blanchard, Jr. and Brantley J. Blanchard; a brother, Ronnie Horton of High Point; a sister, Frances Christmas of Raleigh; and six grandchildren.
Flowers are welcomed and memorials may be made to the Oxford Home for Children, 500 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.

VICKIE EATON SCROGGINS
YOUNGSVILLE - Mrs. Vickie Eaton Scroggins, 40, of Moncks Corner, SC, formerly of Youngsville expired on Sunday due to an automobile accident.
The funeral service will be professionally conducted on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Old Liberty Baptist Church in Youngsville with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Patricia Eaton Hardy, 755 Moores Pond Road in Youngsville, NC.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving husband, Mr. Donald Juan Scroggins Sr.; three children: Johnny (Nealie) Eaton of Goose Creek, SC., Kaneshia C. Scroggins and Donald J. Scroggins Jr. of the home; two grandchildren: Davelle and Tiana Eaton; four sisters, Mrs. Mary E. McGee of Raleigh, NC, Mrs. Shirley E. Horton of Garner, NC, Mrs. Patricia E. Hardy of Youngsville, NC and Joyce E. Okonny of Macon, GA; eight brothers, Mr. Percy B. Eaton Jr. of Youngsville, NC, (retired) Master Sergeant Earlie D. Eaton of Warner Robbins, GA, Mr. Jessie L. Eaton of Warner Robbins, GA., Mr. Mark Eaton of Columbia, S.C., Mr. Luke T. Eaton of Raleigh, NC, Mr. Mickey Q. Eaton of Louisburg, NC, Mr. Marty Eaton of Youngsville, NC, Mr. Christopher A. Eaton of Raleigh, NC; mother-in-law, Mrs. Noami R. Scroggins and of Strawberry, SC and father-in-law Zane Scroggins of Dorchester, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, six sisters-in-law and seven brothers-in-law, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

ANNIE BELLE BREEZE
CARY - Annie Belle Ray Breeze, 86, of Cary died Thursday, April 1, 1999. She was an active member of First Assembly of God in Raleigh. She worked for Sanders Motor Company for 20 years and was a former Woman of the Year of the ABWA. She was an avid golfer and bowler and was a member of the Tuesday Owls.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at First Assembly of God in Raleigh. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Surviving are: daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and William D. Griffin, Jr. of Goldsboro; a grandson, David Griffin of Goldsboro; a granddaughter and her husband, Jeanie G. Fornecker and Gary of Goldsboro; a granddaughter-in-law, Dennee Best Griffin of Knightdale; four great-grandchildren; sister, Macy Rabenstein of Whispering Pines; brothers, Robert Ray of Burlington and James Ray of Chapel Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Breeze and a grandson, Tim Griffin.
The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, on Saturday from 6-8 p.m.

GLADYS BANKS BROWN
POLLOCKSVILLE - Gladys Banks Brown, 81, of 1220 Oak Grove Road, died Thursday at Craven Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Brown retired after 41 years of teaching at Verona Elementary School for 2 years and Trenton Elementary for 39 years. She served as Sunday school teacher and secretary and choir member. she was a member of Womans Home Missions at her church. She was a member of Queen Elizabeth Order of Eastern Star and Iota Sigma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and president of retired school personnel.
Funeral 11 a.m. Monday, Free Will Chapel, Free Will Baptist Church, Hwy 58, Pollocksville, with the Rev. Henry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Murphy Cemetery.
Surviving: sons, Robert J. Brown of Goldsboro and Rev. Joseph C. Brown Sr. of Wilmington; one grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

MAE J. CHAMBLEE
ZEBULON - Mae Jordan Chamblee, 72, of Robinwood Retirement Center died Friday at Rex Hospital.
Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Norman Screws Chapel of Family Funeral Care. Burial will follow in the Bryant Family Cemetery, Nash County.
Surviving are her son, Frank Rayford Chamblee, Jr. of Middlesex; daughters, Sheila C. Brown and Joy C. Buck both of Middlesex, Pattie C. Waller of Durham and Frankie C. May of Zebulon; brothers, Ben Jordan of Zebulon and Nathaniel Jordan of Middlesex; sister, Gillie Phillips of Middlesex; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank R. Chamblee and a grandson, Ryan Brown.
The family will receive friends at Family Funeral Care, 1201 N. Arendell Av., Zebulon (269-9377) from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday and other times at the home of Frankie May, 5201 Debnam Road, Zebulon.

ROLAND "BO" FARLEY
GREENVILLE - Mr. Roland "Bo" Farley, 92, died Thursday, April 1, 1999.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Mr. Farley was born March 25, 1907 in Danville, Virginia. He attended Duke University where he was named to The Duke University Sports Hall of Fame. He also attended East Carolina Teachers College and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army.
Mr. Farley began his career as a teacher and coach, at George Washington High School in Danville, VA and continued coaching in Greenville at East Carolina Teachers College. From 1935 until his retirement in 1971 he was a teacher and coach at Greenville High School and J.H. Rose High School in Greenville.
Mr. Farley was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was married to Elsie Gibson Farley who preceded him in death in 1992. He was also preceded in death by a son, Edward D. Farley in 1982.
He is survived by: son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Laura C. Farley of Greenville; granddaughter, Jane F. Barber of Greenville; grandsons, John B. Farley of Greenville, Paul M. Farley of Wilmington, NC, Edward W. Farley of Raleigh, NC; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his son, 100 Deerwood Drive.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 401 E. 4th Street, Greenville, NC 27858.

RUBY B. HOLLOWAY
DURHAM - Mrs. Ruby Bowers Holloway, 90, resident of 2510 Highland Ave., died Thursday morning in her home. She was born in Avery County, the daughter of the late George Franklin and Bessie Buchanan Bowers. She was the wife of the late William Bruce Holloway. She was formerly employed as a Registered Nurse at Duke Medical Center. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Edward Lee Holloway of Raleigh and William Martin Holloway of Warren, NJ; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Pearl of Tryon; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. in Pleasant Green United Methodist Church by Rev. Larry Bowden. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Holloway, Mike Pittman, Douglas Rorie, Harvey Rorie, Doyle Wilkins and Jim Wilkins.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home.

JOSEPH W. JOHNSON
FUQUAY-VARINA - Mr. Joseph W. Johnson, 74, of Fuquay-Varina died Friday, April 2, 1999 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
Funeral, 3 p.m. Sunday at O'Quinn-Peebles Chapel in Lillington with Rev. Jimmy Elliott officiating. Burial, Harnett Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home on Saturday from 7-9 p.m.
Survivors: wife, Grace H. Johnson of the home; son, Jerry G. Johnson of Fuquay-Varina; two daughters, Jo-Nell Hardee of Fuquay-Varina, Hilda Renfrow of Raleigh; two brothers, Thomas Johnson of Fuquay-Varina, Bobby Johnson of Georgia; three sisters, Frances Cotton of Fuquay-Varina, Doris McCauley of Durham and Miriam Mitchell of Virginia; six grandchildren.

ANGIER - Paul Madison Jones, 78, of 2246 Old Buies Creek Road, a retired farmer, died Wednesday.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Angier. Burial, Hockaday Family Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Doris Hockaday Jones; sons, Jerry M. Jones and his wife, Sharlene J. Jones of Angier, Donnie N. Jones and his wife, Yvonne Jones of Pearland, TX; sisters, Margaret J. Burnett of Fuquay-Varina, Ruthlene J. Dean of Angier and Elizabeth J. Yates of Cary; brothers, Thomas Jones, William Jones, Jack Jones, all of Fuquay-Varina and Buck Jones of Raleigh; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
