TYSON M. KIRK
DURHAM - Mr. Tyson M. Kirk, 78, died Friday morning, April 2, at Durham Regional Hospital after a brief illness. He was a committed Christian, a devoted husband, and a loving father and grandfather. Mr. Kirk was born on December 27, 1920 in Mebane, son of the late Edward and Chloe E. King Kirk. He was raised at the Baptist Children's Home in Thomasville and moved to Durham in his teens to live with his predeceased sister, Vera Kirk. He was educated in the Durham schools and played football at Durham High School in the late 1930's.
He served in the US Marines during WWII and is a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He retired from Nello L. Teer Company after several years of employment. Mr. Kirk is a former member of Holloway St. Baptist Church and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for a number of years. He was a current member of Homestead Heights Baptist Church and taught the Anderson Class until his health failed.
Mr. Kirk is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Bynum Atwater Kirk of the home; daughter, Terry Kirk Hall and husband Richard; son Eddie Kirk and wife, Melva; and four grandsons, whom he adored, Zack Hall and wife Whitney of Charlotte, Mitch Hall, Matt and Kevin Kirk all of Durham.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 4, at Homestead Heights Baptist Church on Holt School Rd. in Durham. Dr. W. Gattis Perry and Rev. James West will officiate. Burial will be at Cedar Grove Methodist Church on Jones Ferry Rd. in Chatham County. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday night at Clements Funeral Home.
Flowers are acceptable or those wishing may make memorial contributions to Mills Home, Baptist Children's Home of NC, P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27360.
Pallbearers will be Zack Hall, Mitch Hall, Matt Kirk, Kevin Kirk, David Atwater, Dempsey Oates and Gary Andersen. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Anderson Class at Homestead Heights Baptist Church.

AREY B. LAMM
LUCAMA - Arey Barnes Lamm, 86, died Thursday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Worth and a grandson, Kenneth Earl Teague.
Funeral, Monday, 2 p.m., Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Chapel. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Surviving: daughter and her husband, Peggy and Tommy Teague of Lucama; son, W.W. "Billy" Lamm, Jr., and his wife, Nancy of Rockledge, FL; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Connie Barnes of Wilson.
The family at the funeral home, Sunday, 7-8:30 p.m.

MALEE T. MIDDLEWOOD
CLAYTON - Malee Tanpaisarn Middlewood, age 64, of Clayton, a native of Thailand died Thursday.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with Rev. Bob Langston officiating.
Surviving are her husband, John P. Middlewood; sons, Nimit Kumpu Na-Ayuthaya of Riverside, California and Wiroja Middlewood of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a daughter, Margaret Santos of Niceville, FL; brothers, Duk Tanpaisarn of Dover, DE, Maan, Mean, Sann, and Baa Tanpaisarn, all of Thailand; sisters, Ong Yannacci of Dover, DE and Al Tanpaisarn of Highland, CA; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday night from 7-9 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Smithfield Advent Christian Church Missionary Fund, P.O. Box 2197, Smithfield, NC 27577.

REX L. O'BRIANT
BURGAW - Mr. Rex L. O'Briant, 55, of Burgaw died Thursday, April 1, 1999 at Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw. He was a retired State Trooper with the NC State Highway Patrol.
Funeral, 11 a.m., Monday at Harmony Baptist Church in Bunnlevel with Rev. Michael Parnell and Rev. Grady Edwards officiating. Burial, Harnett Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, Lillington, on Sunday from 7-9 p.m.; other times at the home of his father, Philip O'Briant in Bunnlevel.
Memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church, 3566 NC 210 S. Bunnlevel, NC 28323 or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 266, Lillington, NC 27546.
Survivors: wife, Mary P. O'Briant of the home; son, Allan O'Briant and daughter-in-law Cynthia O'Briant of Fuquay-Varina; daughter, Angie Denise O'Briant of Rocky Point, NC; father, Philip O'Briant of Bunnlevel; sister, Sue O. Adcock of Bunnlevel; brother, Phillip Ellis O'Briant of Fayetteville; one grandson, Richard Allan O'Briant.

JEAN STEELE SPENCER
GREENSBORO - Mrs. Jean Steele Spencer, 72, of Meadowood St., died April 1, 1999 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Centenary United Methodist Church, 2300 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC, with interment in Guilford Memorial Park.
She is a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Church Circle and Roach Sunday School Class.
Jean is survived by her husband Walter Earl Spencer of the home; daughters, Gail Ann Engels and her husband Gary of Forest, VA, Deborah Lee Gipple and her husband Dale of Raleigh, NC; brother, Alec Steele of Greensboro; grandchildren, Laurie Engels, Ashley Engels, Spencer Gipple and Emily Gipple and special niece Sue Metters.
Jean was predeceased by her son Walter Earl Spencer Jr.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel.

JOE M. WILLIAMS
ANGIER - Joe M. Williams, 90, died Thursday, April 1, 1999.
Funeral 3 p.m. Sunday at Kennebec Baptist Church. Rev. Richard Walker and Rev. Pat Chisenhall officiating. Burial, Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Route 2, Angier.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Carter Williams.
Survivors: daughters, Estelle Baker, Dot Wood, Pearl Grady, Kramer Sullivan, Judy Wilkins, Janet Smith, Gloria McLamb, Becky Currin, all of Angier, Brenda Stephenson of Four Oaks; sons, J. M., Junior, and Johnny Fortin, all of Angier; brothers, John Williams of Angier, Add and Mack Williams, both of Fayetteville; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday evening at Overby-Johnson Funeral Home.

RAYMOND BRIGGS CALL
RALEIGH - Raymond Briggs Call, 84, of Raleigh died Friday March 12, 1999 unexpectedly at home. Mr. Call was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and a previous member of Oakwood United Methodist Church in Elmira Heights, NY. He was a former employee of the Elmira Heights School System. He served as a volunteer at Whittaker Mill Senior Center.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church. The burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY at a later date.
Mr. Call is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Smith Call; sons, Ronald B. Call and his wife, Margaret Ann Call of Rochester, NY and Gary D. Call and his wife, Ellen Call of Rochester, NY; daughter, Diane Baggett and her husband, John Baggett of Knightdale; sister, Dorothy Lovell and her husband Lewis Lovell of Elmira, NY; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 3808 St. James Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27604. Arrangements by Family Funeral Care, Zebulon (269-9377).

THELMA W. HINNANT
WENDELL - Thelma Whitley Hinnant, age 85, formerly of Johnston County, died Saturday. Born in Johnston County on March 25, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Creech Whitley. A loving mother of four children, she was married to the late Avery Hinnant. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and was an active volunteer in and around the Wendell community.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church on NC 39 Highway near Middlesex with Rev. Jarrod Scott andRev. Ingimar Deridder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are: daughter, Frances H. Narron of Cary; her son, Millard Hinnant and wife Ellen of Pine Knoll Shores; her son, Ray Hinnant and wife LIllie of Knightdale; her son, Cecil Hinnant and wife Linda of Selma; her sister, Estelle Wilder and husband Earl of Surf City; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Parrish Funeral Home located at the intersection of 70 Business and Highway 301 in Selma.

ALICE D. JENNETTE
FEB. 7, 1914 - MARCH 14, 1999
GARNER - Alice Deans Jennette, 85, died March 14, at Laurels of Forest Glen Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for several years.
She was born in Goldsboro but had been a resident of Garner since 1955. She was a faithful member of Garner United Methodist Church, where she was noted for her willingness to serve in any capacity. She was involved in mission work, visitations, women's prayer group, women's circle, teaching Sunday School and adult literacy. She operated a day care and after-school program from her home for many years and thoroughly enjoyed touching the lives of the children in her care.
Mrs. Jennette is remembered for her dignity and grace with which she lived her life. She was an inspiration in her roles as mother, wife, friend and citizen.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Garner United Methodist Church, 201 Methodist Drive, intersection of US 70 and Vandora Springs Road, Garner. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving: husband, Albert Jennette; son, Douglas Jennette and daughter-in-law, Marsha Presnell-Jennette of Raleigh; daughter, Betsy Mountcastle and son-in-law, Dennis Mountcastle of Quinton, Va.; sisters, Virginia Crumpler of Goldsboro, Mabel Mozingo of Grantham; brother, Frank Deans and sister-in-law, Celeste Deans of Goldsboro; granddaughters, Brielle Mountcastle of Atlanta, Ga., Anna Mountcastle of Quinton, Va.; grandson, Dustin Mountcastle of Quinton, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Garner United Methodist Church, 201 Methodist Drive, Garner, N.C. 27529.
The family will be at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, 7-9 p.m. today.

LEAMON AUGUSTA BRYANT
SPRING HOPE - Leamon Augusta Bryant, age 94, of 2057 Bryantown Road, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Samaria Baptist Church by Rev. Robert Brooks. Interment will follow in Bailey City Cemetry in Bailey.
Mr. Bryant was a member of Samaria Baptist Church for 82 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Leta Farrar of Richmond, VA, Edna Carroll of Bladenboro; two sons, Wallace "Tom" Bryant and Julian Bryant, both of Spring Hope; ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Spring Hope Funeral Home, Monday evening from 7 til 9 p.m. and other times at the home.

VERA M. CORNER
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - Vera M. Corner, 91 years, a long time resident of Virginia Beach, passed peaceful in a local hospital on March 13, 1999. She was the daughter of the late John and Stella Mizell, and the widow and devoted wife of 52 years to the late George S. Corner. She was preceded by (2) two sisters, Annie M. Mayo and Ada M. Bachtell, and (1) one brother Louis L. Mizell. She is survived by a sister, Edna M. Furches, of Clemmons, NC and a brother, Willie W. Mizell, of Roper, NC and other loving relatives.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 1999 in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, VA.
Donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Hampton Roads, or Haygood United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, VA.Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory is handling arrangements.

EVERETTE O. DUNN
FOUR OAKS - Mr. Everette Osborne Dunn, age 75 of Hockaday Rd., Four Oaks, died Saturday at his home. Mr. Dunn was born in Johnston County on Dec. 19, 1923 to the late Martin and Bertie Dunn. The funeral has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Minshew Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Webb Cemetery, Tettersville Road.
Surviving: wife, Lessie Grey Beasley Dunn; daughters, Joan Fail of Princeton, Carolyn Massengill of Four Oaks; sons, Shelton O. Dunn, Dennis Dunn and Layton Dunn, all of Four Oaks; sisters, Millie Mae Stanley and Elgie Norris, both of Four Oaks, Emma Dean Gordon of Selma; brothers, Ralph Dunn of Four Oaks and Lee Dunn of High Point; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday night from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

RALEIGH - Irene Badgett Elliott, of 7813 Crestwood Dr., Raleigh, NC, died Friday at home. Funeral services, Tuesday 12 p.m. at St. Amanda Baptist Church. Burial, Carolina Biblical Gardens.
Surviving: daughters, Dorothy B. Smith and Brenda B. Salahat, both of Raleigh and Gail Elliott of the home; sons, Jimmy Badgett, J. Ricky Elliott and Gary Elliott, all of Raleigh, Evangelist Larry Badgett and Dwight Ray Elliott, all of Garner; sisters, Ethel Badgett Smith of Apex, Katie Badgett Holloway of Raleigh, Amelia Badgett Woods of Garner, Elizabeth Badgett Wilcox, and Rosa Badgett Hambrick, both of Brooklyn, NY; an aunt, Mamie Crowder Williams of Baltimore, MD; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
