GLENDALE S. THOMPSON
CHARLOTTE - Glendale Suits Thompson of Sharon Towers in Charlotte passed away April 2, 1999 in Presbyterian Hospital. Her service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, April 5, 1999, at Norwood First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Roland Banks officiating.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by a son, E. Marvin Thompson Jr. of Raleigh, a sister Mrs. Myra S. Blackmon of Charlotte. four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Edwards Funeral Home of Norwood is in charge.

VELMA "BUTTERFLY LADY" WILDER
St. PETERSBURG, FL - Velma E. "Butterfly Lady," Wilder, 85, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Thursday, April 1, 1999 at Crown Point Nursing Home. Born in New Bern, NC, she moved to Florida in 1996 from Atlanta, GA. She was a journalist for the Akron, Ohio, Beacon Journal. She was Methodist, and a former member of Eastern Star in Rockmart, GA.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Rich, Nokomis, FL; and Julie Webber, St. Petersburg; a sister, Julia Murdoch, Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

JOSEPH M. "JOE" WILLIAMS
ANGIER - Joe M. Williams, 90, a retired farmer, died Thursday, April 1, 1999.
Funeral 3 p.m. Sunday at Kennebec Baptist Church. Dr. Richard Walker and Rev. Pat Chisenhall officiating. Burial, Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Route 2, Angier.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Carter Williams.
Survivors: daughters, Estelle Baker, Dot Wood, Pearl Grady, Kramer Sullivan, Judy Wilkins, Janet Smith, Gloria McLamb, Becky Currin, all of Angier, Brenda Stephenson of Four Oaks; sons, J. M. Williams, Junior Williams and Johnny Fortin, all of Angier; brothers, John Williams of Angier, Add Williams and Mack Williams, both of Fayetteville; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

RALPH LEE EVANS
RALEIGH - Ralph Lee Evans, 73, of Raleigh passed away Saturday, May 22, 1999, after a brief illness. He is the son of the late Mattie Sue Straughan and Ralph Lee Evans of Durham. He was predeceased by his brothers; Jack Douglas Evans and Robert Fuller Evans. He was also predeceased by his wife, Lois Walker Beety Evans. Mr. Evans attended Durham City Schools and Duke University. He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II having been stationed in Panama. In 1946, he went to work for Capital Airlines. In 1954, he began his career as a food broker with the W.R. Fuller Co. of Durham. In 1957 he moved to Raleigh and married Lois Walker Beety. The following year 1958, he started EPCO Sales (Evans-Powell Corp). Through EPCO Sales, he became one of the most successful frozen food brokers in the state. In 1981, he merged with Donnelly F. Cameron Company where he continued to excell in the brokerage business before retiring in 1995. Restless upon retiring, he went back to work in the food industry as a Customer Service Representative with Harris Teeter in Cameron Village. An avid golfer, he was an original member of Wildwood Country Club; he was also a member of RGA (Raleigh Golf Association) and later, Raleigh Country Club where he was a long time member.
A memorial service will be held at The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at 3:00 p.m.
Mr. Evans is survived by son, Michael Walker Evans of Raleigh; stepson, William Douglas Beety of Nags Head; niece, Melinda Walker Hall of Raleigh.
He was respected and beloved by those that knew him personally as well as professionally. He was distinguished and dignified man and will be sorely missed.

GEORGE H. BARRETT
DUNN - George H. Barrett, 78 of Dunn, died Saturday evening at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
The Durham County native served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Prior to his military career he worked as a cable splicer for CT&T. He attended Campbell College and graduated with Honors in 1949. He then worked with General Utility Co. as office manager until 1969. In 1969 he went to work with the Coca Cola Co. as an accountant until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Barrett received a Diploma from National School of Radio, Television and Allied Electronic. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dunn where he was active. he was a member of Neill S. Stewart Masonic Lodge #556 in Erwin. Also a member of the American Legion Post #59 and VFW of Dunn.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Dunn by Dr. Karl Minor. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Dunn.
He is survived by a son, George R. Barrett of Clayton; a daughter, Jane Barrett of Dunn; two brothers, John Edward Barrett Jr. of Fayetteville, William Erwin Barrett of Lexington, S.C.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7-9 p.m. at Skinner Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 309 West Broad Street, Dunn, N.C. 28334.

LOUISE HOWARD BENNETT
CHAPEL HILL - Louise Howard Bennett, 90, of 1011 Dawes St., in Chapel Hill died Sunday morning in UNC Hospital. A Durham native, she was the daughter of Earl and Virginia Whitehead Howard. Mrs. Bennett graduated from Durham High School and worked briefly as a secretary before marrying H.D. Bennett, co-owner of the Bennett & Blocksidge Co. A Chapel Hill resident since 1934, Mrs. Bennett was a long time member of University Baptist Church. She was an exceptional homemaker, and a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Sturgess of Chapel Hill and Rebecca Sowers of Dinwiddie, VA; sister, Helen Howard of Durham; grandchildren, Mark Sowers of Williamsburg, VA, Kristi Beeson of Baltimore, Daniel Lee of Carrboro and James Lee of Georgetown, SC; three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, H.D. Bennett, and her brothers, Jack Howard, Needham Howard and Earl C. Howard Jr.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in University Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronald Sowers and the Rev. Dr. Mitchell Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Friends received 7:30-9:00 p.m. Monday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, 1113 W. Main St. in Durham (across from NC Eye & Ear Hospital).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to University Baptist Church Building Fund, 100 S. Columbia St., Chapel Hill, 27514 or to Western Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, Cox Rd., Petersburg, VA 23803.

ANNIE B. BONEY
RALEIGH - Annie Bell Boney, 78, of 3113 New Hope Road, died Sunday afternoon at Wake Medical Center. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, Raleigh Memorial Park.
Surviving daughter, Charlotte Anne Bridges of Raleigh; sons, Rickey Linton Boney of Raleigh, Alton "Rocky" Campbell Boney Jr. of Raleigh; sisters, Pearl Londy of Raleigh, Mary Wilkins of Schreveport La. brother, Lynn B. Johnson of Raleigh; niece, Margaret Morgan of Cape Carteret, grandchildren, Cindy Ann Bond, Michael Glenn Bridges, Catherine Lorene Braswell, Melissa Jean long, Kimberly Nicole Boney, Nicholas Eugene Boney; great-grandchildren, Ashley Brooke Long, Austin Taylor Long, Brandon Glenn Boney, Timothy Joshua Bond, Michael Wayne Bridges, Mason Glenn Bridges, Lewis Taylor Bridges.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today, Strickland Funeral Home 211 W. Third Street, Wendell, and at other times at the home.

TWILA JO BRUCE
EAST BEND - Twila Jo Bruce, 49, of Bruce Road passed away Saturday, May 22, 1999 at Iredell Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born March 20, 1950 in Manhatten, Kansas to Robert & Loretta Rous Handlin. Mrs. Bruce was employed with First Citizens Bank in Winston-Salem, and was former member of the Fayetteville Art Guild.
Surviving are her husband, David Bruce of the home; two daughters, Betsy (Doug) Hanes of Bethesda, MD, Elainna Jo Gaskins of Charleston, SC; her parents, Robert and Loretta Handlin of Newton, NC; three sisters, Roberta Handlin of Maiden, Penny Handlin of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Lois (Donald) Ward of Maiden; three nieces; a nephew; mother-in-law, Mabel "Peggy" Bruce of East Bend; and a brother-in-law, Derl Bruce of Yadkinville.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at Baltimore United Methodist Church by Rev. Dan McClure. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at Baltimore United Methodist Church.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Habitat for Humanity, 339 Witt Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

HELEN DAIL BRUCE
WAKE FOREST - Helen Dail Bruce, 42, of Wake Forest died Saturday, May 22, 1999. She was born December 23, 1956. Dail was a devoted wife and mother and a loving friend. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 25, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of North Raleigh Funeral Home.
Surviving is her husband John Donald Bruce; son, John Tyler Bruce; and two daughters, Kerry Lee Bruce and Ashley Marie Bruce of the home; mother, Blanche Hartman Britt of Raleigh, brother, David Robson Britt of Youngsville; sisters, Deborah Smith and her husband Lonny,; niece, Meredith, nephew, Brandon of Greensboro, niece, Holly Ann Britt of Kill Devil Hills; cousins, Al and Joan Fiore and their children Rebecca and Michael of Raleigh, father-in-law and mother-in-law; John and Jo Ann Bruce of Rolesville; several aunts and nieces.
Dail was predeceased by her father Holly Robson Britt.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the home of John and Jo Ann Bruce 4600 Rolesville Road, Wendell.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dail's name to The Duke University Bone Marrow Transplant Program, Box 3961, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C. 27710.

PATRICIA A. CARTER
RALEIGH - Patricia Ann Carter, 64, of 10300 Baileywick Road, died Saturday at Raleigh Rehabilitation and Convalescent Center.
Funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Monday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Memory Gardens, Greer, South Carolina.
Surviving are sons, Andrew C. Carter of Panama City, Fla. and Richard D. Carter of Henderson; daughter, Kristy Osterhout of Raleigh; sister, Shirley Bryant of Greer, S.C.
The will family receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.

BERNICE P. CRAWLEY
JACKSON - Mrs. Bernice Parker Crawley, age 89, of the Bayberry in Roanoke Rapids and of Jackson, died Sunday, May 23, 1999 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. Mrs. Crawley was the wife of the late Wilbur Gray Crawley and the daughter of the late Luther Jackson Parker and Sallie Capel Taylor Parker. She was predeceased by seven brothers and one sister. She was a member of Jackson Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Taylor Crawley and his wife Mary Ann of Jackson; two daughters, Hayes Neathery-Askew and her husband, Thurman of Roanoke Rapid and Phyllis C. Daniel and her husband Charles of Pleasant Hill; seven grandchildren, Wilbur and Jennifer Crawley, Ray Neathery, Leigh N. Long, Karen D. Vincent, Charley and Philip Daniel; four great-grandchildren, Cliff Neathery, Calvin and Ashley Long, and Brooke Vincent.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at 3 p.m. at Jackson Baptist Church by Rev. Joe McLean. Burial will follow at Jackson Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson Monday from 7-9 p.m. and other times at the home of her son, Taylor Crawley in Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson Baptist Church, Jackson, N.C. 27845.

ROBERT L. EDGERTON
VIRGINIA BEACH - Robert L. Edgerton, of Virginia Beach, died May 23, 1999. Mr. Edgerton served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He was a member of Lake Wright Golf and Country Club and Stumpy Lake Golf Club and was very active in Civic League Baseball in Norfolk. Mr. Edgerton was a retired Vice President with D.D. Jones.
He was a loving husband and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret E. Edgerton; sisters, Mae and Pat Edwards, both of Princeton, North Carolina and Jean Simmers; nieces and nephews including, Chuck Simmers, Dean and Debbie Smith all of Virginia Beach.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. May 25, 1999 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Interment in Rosewood Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, May 24, 1999 from 7-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters.

KENNETH WILSON EUBANKS
RALEIGH - Kenneth Wilson Eubanks was born in Lemmon, SD on October 6, 1918 to Edgar J. and Versa Riddle Eubanks. He died on May 22 at Springmoor Retirement Community. He attended the University of SD at Vermillion and received a degree in electrical engineering from the School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, SD in 1941. That same month he joined the Westinghouse Electric Corporation for whom he worked until his retirement in 1984.
During WWII he served with Navy, achieving the rank of Lt. (J.G.). Throughout his life Ken lived out his faithfulness to his Lord, his family, and his country. During his youth he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. A deacon for many years at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, he also served as Chairman of that board. He was a long-time member of the Keystone and Trinity Classes and for many years served as director of the Junior Training Union. Ken was also a dedicated member of the Raleigh Exchange Club. In all he did Ken worked steadily and faithfully.
Ken will be missed by his family who survive him: his wife of fifty-four years, Louise Baughan Eubanks; daughter, Diane Eubanks Hill and her husband Dennis Hill of Durham; two grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Hill and Andrew Wilson Hill of Durham; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his brother Rex.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 24 at Hayes Barton Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
Visitation is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in the church parlor.
Memorials may be sent to Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, N.C. 27608.

FLONNIE M. HODGES
DUNN - Mrs. Flonnie Mae Hodges, 87, of Golden Year Nursing Home in Falcon died Saturday evening.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Grace Chapel Church by Rev. Floyd Turlington and Rev. Joseph Ammons. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
She is survived by two sons, Robert L. Hodges of Erwin, Gene Hodges of Dunn, three daughters, Betty Lou Hood of Garner, Shirley Brum of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Anita Bell of Fayetteville; two brothers, Ellis Godwin and Otis Godwin both of Dunn; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7-9 p.m. at Skinner Funeral Home and other times at the home of Robert Hodges, 105 4th Street, Erwin.
