LOUISE H. ROBINSON-OBERSCHALL
CHAPEL HILL - Mrs. Louise Anne Howell Robinson-Oberschall died in her home Monday, May 24. She was born the daughter of the late Louise and Dudley Howell on February 4, 1939 in Wilmington.
Surviving are her husband, Tony Oberschall of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Chris Clapp of Wilmington; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Donia Robinson of Calistoga, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Dick Evans of Greenville; nieces and nephews, Louise Walston, Susan Wetherill, Taylor Humphries, Lewis Kofsky, Doug Kofsky, Emily Kofsky and Tony's children, Alex and Sarah Oberschall.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 125, S. Third Street in Wilmington at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 27. Officiating will be the Rev. Kathryn Beach-Verhey and the Rev. Carol Sims.
Mrs. Oberschall graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1960 and was a member of Pi Beta Phi fraternity. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made in her name to Habitat for Humanity.
Walkers Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is in charge of arrangements.

VIRGIE CARROLL SEAGROVES
DURHAM - Mrs. Virgie Carroll Seagroves, 85, of 321 E. Carver Street, died Monday, May 24, 1999, in the Carver Living Center after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Seagroves was a native of Warren County and had made her home in Durham for 60 years. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Carroll and was the widow of Marvin Jackson Seagroves, who died in 1989. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Durham Memorial Baptist Church and worked in the nursery at the church.Surviving are one son, Lewis Seagroves of Hillsborough; one daughter, Margaret Maynard of Morrisvile; four brothers, Rooker Carroll and Richard Carroll, both of Warrenton, Milton Carroll of Scotland Neck and Jimmy Carroll of Springfield, Ohio; five sisters, Mamie Van de Berg of Wilmington, Jessie Hicks of McLeansville, Lee Marsh of McKeesport, Pa., Ethel Carter of Henderson and Rebecca Pryor of New Orleans, La.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Hudson Funeral Chapel. Dr. Gerald Goodwin will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be tonight from 7-9 in the Hudson Funeral Chapel and at other times at the home of her daughter, Margaret Maynard, 1509 Old Maynard Road, Morrisville. Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to Triangle Hospice, 1804 W. Martin Luther King Parkway, Suite 112, Durham, N.C. 27707.

DR. GREGORY M. STRAW
CHAPEL HILL - Dr. Gregory M. Straw, 49, died unexpectedly Monday, May 24, at his home in Chapel Hill, NC, of cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Lumadue) Straw and their children, Annalise (22) and Nathan (18) of Chapel Hill; his mother, Elvanor and brother, Kenneth, both of Shelby, Ohio; his sisters, Dr. Christine Straw of Milwaukee, WI., and Dr. Lorraine Straw of Grand Rapids, MI; and many in-laws, cousins, and other relatives. His father, Dr. Norman Straw of Shelby, Ohio, preceded him in death by 2 months.
Dr. Greg Straw was a graduate of Purdue University and The Ohio State University College of Medicine. His medical and psychiatric residencies were completed through Wayne State University in Detroit where he began his practice in child psychiatry. He accepted a fellowship in research with the National Institute of Mental Health in Washington, DC for 4 years before joining the faculty at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1989.
A dedicated psychiatrist and avid researcher, Dr. Straw pursued professional interests including chronobiology and neurochemistry. In recent years, he presented his research to professional conferences in Germany, Japan, and throughout the United States. He was known in the Research Triangle as a wonderful caregiver and talented psychoneurobiologist with an exceptional ability to diagnose and treat difficult psychiatric problems. He was very interested and involved in collaborative community care for underserved populations, especially children and adolescents. In addition to his practices throughout North Carolina, Dr. Straw shared his affection and his professional services with the students and faculty at Wellspring Institute of Leadership in Virginia, where the students will be planting a tree in his memory.
Dr. Straw was intensely devoted to his family. He and Elizabeth shared a love of music and the arts, as well as a passion for learning, all of which they passed on to their children. He loved sculpting and traveling, and was an accomplished pianist and guitarist. He will be deeply mourned by his family, friends, and the communities he served.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Walker's Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a scholarship being created in Dr. Straw's name at the Wellspring Institute of Leadership, 4131 Birch Elmo Road, South Boston, Va24592.

MARK A. TUCKER
RALEIGH - Mark Adam Tucker, 27, of Raleigh, died Monday, May 24, 1999.
Mr. Tucker was born in Washington County, Arkansas. In his younger life, Mark was a member of Scout Troop 207, and as astudent at Athens Drive High School, was a member of the marching band. Mr. Tucker later attended N.C. State University.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 27, 1999, in Forest Hills Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving are his parents, Milton and Sue Tucker; brother, Wade C. Tucker.
Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the, National Alliance For The Mentally Ill, Wake County, P.O. Box 12562, Raleigh, N.C., 27605.
The family will receive friends, 7-9 Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Cary, N.C.

KATHERINE F. WALLACE
RALEIGH - Katherine Fussell Wallace died May 25, 1999.
She was born on March 18, 1914 in Tabor City. Katherine lived an active life working many years for the Civil Service and held a supervisory position with the U.S. Armed Service during which time she was stationed in various countries throughout the world. Her last years before retirement were spent at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. She retired to Myrtle Beach where she maintained residence until 1997.
She is survived by her nephew, Lea Williams and niece by marriage, Phyllis Williams and her pet, B.J.
A private family viewing is scheduled.
Arrangements are by Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.

LACY T. WEST JR.
WHITE LAKE - Lacy Troy West, Jr., 57, died Tuesday, May 23, 1999 in Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown. Mr. West was a graduate of E.C.U. and a charter member of E.C.U's Sports Hall of Fame. He was a former teacher and coach at East Bladen High School and later owner of Lacy West Thomas Insurance Agency in Elizabethtown.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Rev. Bob Bergland officiating. Burial in Old Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Jane Randolph West; daughters, Karen West Suggs and Rhonda Jane West, both of White Lake; son, Alan Troy West of Elizabethtown; sisters, Nancy Rossiter of Chesapeake, VA, Pat Powers of Asheboro; brother, William Robert West of Asheboro; five grandchildren, Jake Austin Suggs, Luke Johnson Suggs and Lacey Catherine Suggs, all of White Lake, Cameron Troy West and Madeline Ann West, both of Elizabethtown.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Kinlaw Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bladen County Hospital Foundation.

WILLIAM H. WHITE
PINEHURST - Mr. William H. White, 72, died Friday, May 21, 1999.
Born in Greensboro, August 10, 1926, he was raised in High Point. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1944 and entered the Marine Corps shortly thereafter. After his discharge at the rank of Corporal in 1946, he returned home and began working in the moving business.
With his brother, Henry, he opened an appliance store in Morehead City which they ran together until 1951, when he opened AAA Moving and Storage Company. It later expanded to five locations across eastern North Carolina. In October, 1959, he was named Tar Heel of the Week by the News & Observer. He helped create and finance both Cape Fear Bank and Capital National Bank which became United Carolina Bank. In addition to banking, he has been involved in commercial and residential real estate development and investment counseling and speculation.
He was an active supporter of the North Carolina Democratic Party for much of his life. He helped finance and coordinate the gubernatorial campaigns of former Governors Kerr Scott and Terry Sanford. In 1960, he was appointed Purchase and Contract Director for the State of North Carolina by Governor Terry Sanford.
Always athletically inclined, he played football, basketball, and baseball in high school. He later became an avid hunter and golfer.
Throughout his adult life, he made numerous contributions to a wide variety of charitable organizations and educational institutions. He was a Mason, Elk, member of the Pinehurst Country Club and The Country Club of North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Hunsucker White; son, William H. White Jr. and wife, Sarah of Irvine, CA; daughter, "Suzee" Cheryl W. Lynch of Pinehurst; grandsons, Fred B. Lynch and wife, Cheryl of Holly Springs, Patrick Edward White of Lenoir; granddaughter, Alison Claire White of Salisbury; brother, Henry Herman White of Asheville; sister, Ruth Marie Witcher of Jamestown.
A private memorial service was held Sunday at Pinelawn Cemetery in Southern Pines with Dr. Ben Bishop presiding.
Funeral arrangements were made by Powell Funeral Home in Southern Pines.

ELIZABETH LUTTERLOH WILLIAMS
PITTSBORO - Elizabeth Lutterloh Williams, 84, of 3990 N.C. 87, North, died at her home Monday, May 24, 1999. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Browns Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Ray Gooch. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving: daughters, Jean Holliday and her husband, Billy Holliday of Snow Camp, Judith Ann Williams of the home; sister, Myrtle L. Swicegood of New Bern; brother, Charles W. "Jack" Lutterloh of Pittsboro; two grandchildren, Willie and Jimmie Holliday of Snow Camp.
Memorials may be made to Browns Chapel United Methodist Church or to Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Alpa Phi Chapter Scholarship Fund.

LAURA LYNN RAY WILLIFORD
WENDELL - Laura Lynn Ray Williford, 73, of 6000 Watkins Road, died Monday, May 24, 1999. Mrs. Williford worked for over 25 years as the Secretary and Bookkeeper for C.N. Robertson on Rolesville Road, Wendell. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 1999 at Bethany Baptist Church. Burial, Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: son, Albert Fred "Freddy" Williford and his wife, Vicky of Zebulon; granddaughter, April Nicole Williford; sister, Lola Richards and her husband, Baxter of Zebulon; sisters-in-law, Margaret W. White and her husband, S.J. of Raleigh, Jo Ann W. Mitchell and her husband, Bill of Rolesville.
Mrs. Williford was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Williford, April 3, 1999.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home, 6000 Watkins Road, Wendell, NC 27591.

LINDA K. ALKAZIN
SCOTLAND NECK - Linda Alkazin, 89, of Richmond, VA, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, she was the widow of Mitchell Alkazin. Linda was the owner/operator of a fabric and gift shop for 25 years.
She is survived by one son, David M. Alkazin; daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Michael Walker; grandsons, Mike, Jr. and Kyle.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 1999 at the Scotland Neck Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Scotland Neck.
Family will receive friends Sunday night from 7-8 p.m.

GENEVA EURE BATCHELOR
ROCKY MOUNT - Geneva Eure Batchelor, 98, died Friday, February 12, 1999. She was born July 22, 1900 in Gates County, daughter of the late John C. and Molly Goodman Eure. Mrs. Bathcelor was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bathchelor. She was a retired teacher with Nash County School System and a member of Arlington Baptist Church.
Surviving: nieces, Leslie Prillaman of Richmond, VA, Margaret Appenzeller of Greensboro, NC; nephews, John Eure of Rocky Mount, Bill Eure of Dallas, TX.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home, Sunset Avenue with Dr. Bill Tomlinson officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of John and Sharon Eure, 208 Briarcliff Road, Rocky Mount.
Memorials may be made to Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.

LESTER C. BULLOCK
FUQUAY-VARINA - Lester Charles Bullock, 86, died Friday, February 12, 1999. Funeral 1 p.m. Monday, February 15, 1999 at Thomas Funeral Home chapel. Graveside service 4 p.m. Monday at the Rolesville Baptist Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Bullock was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Dean Bullock.
Surviving: daughters, Brenda B. Robertson and husband, Wayne of Rolesville, Etta Gray B. Ballance and husband, Gayle of Columbia, SC, Wanda B. Gilchrist and husband, Larry of Raleigh; grandchildren, Lisa R. Wilson, Sara R. Hagwood, Gwen A. Higgins, Ginny Ballance, Lori Gilchrist, Jeff Gilchrist; great-grandchildren, John Wilson, Jamie Wilson, Greyson Hagwood, Ashley Higgins, Mitchell Higgins; sisters, Mary Smith, Alta Wilson and Agnes Bass, all of Fuquay-Varina, Elva Powell of Concord; brother, Howard Bullock of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service Monday afternoon at the funeral home.

EDNA DUNCAN
CARY - Edna Duncan, 78, of Cary, formerly of Chapel Hill, died at her home Thursday afternoon.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Boswell and Rev. Luther Brewer. Burial will follow in the North Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Stanford Duncan and his wife Danita of Old Tappan, NJ and John Lewis Duncan and wife Sandra of Cary; six sisters, Inez Sparrow, Ruby Blalock and Alice Martindale all of Chapel Hill, Lucille Beathues of Belingham, WA and Lois Hoenig of Carrboro; one brother, Ben Cheek of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Jenny Hobbs and husband Paul of Knightdale, Amanda and Melissa Duncan of Cary and Alexandra and Tommy Duncan of Old Tappan, NJ; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday evening at Walkers's Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Fourth Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605, American Cancer Society, American Diabetis Ass'n, or The Arthritis Foundation.

JOSEPHINE GEORGE GORHAM
ROCKY MOUNT - Josephine George Gorham, 83, died Wednesday, February 10, 1999. She was born September 15, 1915 in Nash County, daughter of the late Dr. L.R. and Mary Bryan Gorham.
Surviving: cousins, Hattie Bryan Beck of Cary, Archie Futrell of Raleigh, Mary Futrell of Chesapeake, VA, Tom Bryan of Roaring Gap, NC, J. Sam Gorham Jr. of Rocky Mount, Henry Gorham Webb of Hilton Head, SC, George A. Hornbeck of Greenville, NC.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Churchill Gorham and Helen Bryan Gorham.
Graveside services were 11 a.m. today at Pineview Cemetery with Rev. Caswell Shaw officiating.
