Surviving: husband, Odis Temple; son, Lanny Temple of Bunnlevel; sister, Priscilla Jackson of Lillington; brother, Joedie Spence of Knightdale, Keifford Spence of Raleigh; grandson, Lanny Dolan-Grey Temple.
Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Thursday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, Lillington other times at the home.

WILLIE S. "BILLIE" CRAFT
MARCH 20, 1911 - FEB. 15, 1999
RALEIGH - Willie Estelle Swaim Craft, 87, who lived with her grandson Christopher at 6328 Ribbon Trough Court, died Monday. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday at Raleigh Moravian Church. Burial, Raleigh National Cemetery.
Surviving: daughter, Peggy C. Cotten and her husband, Jack of Garner; sons, Gerald G. Craft and his wife, Linda of Raleigh, Robert L. Craft and his wife, Ruth of Benicia, CA; sister, Kathleen Robbins and brother, E.L. Swaim, both of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Visitation 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the Garner Rescue Squad, PO Box 431, Garner, NC 27529.

DAVID PAUL CROCKETT
WYTHEVILLE, VA - David Paul Crockett, 63, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, January 27, 1999 at the Veterans Hospital in Salem, VA. Mr. Crockett was the son of the late Joseph P. and Ruby Smith Crockett, and was a U.S. Army veteran. Memorial service 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service chapel.
Surviving: daughter, Teresa Johnston and her husband, Dan of Raleigh; son, David Allen Crockett and his wife, Lynn of Raleigh; former wife, Lura Byrd of Wytheville, VA; sisters, Mary Brunk of Salem, VA, Ellen Sayers of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Tripp Bridges and David Johnston, both of Raleigh; special sister-in-law, Sarah Crockett of Raleigh; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Crockett was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Lefler; two brothers, E.D. "Buddy" Crockett and Dallas Wayne Crockett.
The Crockett family will receive relatives and friends immediately following the memorial service from 7:30-9 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.
The family has asked that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to Mountain View Church c/o Route 2, Box 695, Wytheville, Virginia 24382.

DAVID B. WILLIAMS
OXFORD - David Bryan Williams 30, of Tally Ho Rd., Oxford, formerly of Gentle Springs, CT, Raleigh, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 14, 1999. David was born July 12, 1968 in Youngstown, OH. He was a Tattoo and Skin Graphics Artist with the Savage & Heads Tattoo Shop, South Saunders St., Raleigh.
David worked for Big Star on Creedmoor Rd. during his high school years. He graduated from South Granville High School in 1986. After graduation David worked for Triangle Auto Rental at RDU until sidetracked by a serious auto accident on July 4, 1987. He spent many months in the hospital at both Wake Medical and Duke Medical Center, followed by an extensive recuperation at home with wheelchair and crutches.
David continued his artwork and in 1988 discovered the art of tattooing. He worked briefly with Inkslingers in Durham and by 1991 became associated with Savage & Heads Tattoo Shop at the Morgan Street and the present South Saunders Street locations.
"Big Dave" was known throughout the Southeast and drew customers from all North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Tattoos by Dave can be found on bodies from Seattle, Washington to Naples, Florida and as far away as Italy. His customers encompassed the executive level, Judges, attorneys, teachers, and service people, including Marines, Police, and also construction workers, mechanics and secretaries. People from all different walks of life sought out David's fine skills.
He is survived by his parents, Frank and Susan Bratsch of Oxford, fiancee' Stacey Spencer of Oxford; sister, Lisa Marie Allen and her husband, Michael of Oxford; maternal grandmother, Georgia Christmas of Oxford.
David's heart knew no bounds. Many times he opened his home to those without one. He would often be seen giving dollar bills to people in need along Hillsborough St. Dave felt that everyone "deserved recognition and love."
He will be sadly missed by so many, but especially by his family, who loved him wholly and unconditionally and by Stacey who was sent to him by a high power to love and be loved.
A funeral mass will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 1999 at the Montlawn Funeral Home chapel.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 17 at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington St.

RUBY P. ANDERSON
WAKE FOREST - Ruby Perry Anderson, 84, of 10821 Ponderosa Service Road, died Tuesday, February 16, 1999 at her home. She was born in Wake County and was the daughter of the late William J. and Mary Etta Reddish Perry. She was a member of Forestville Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday afternoon, February 18, 1999 at Forestville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Anderson was employed for 26 years in the lab of Burlington Industries.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, William M. "Bill" Anderson; daughter, Sylvia Anderson Moore of Raleigh; grandsons, Robert Anderson Moore and Anthony L. Moore of Raleigh; niece, Ginger P. Neville of Wake Forest; two nephews, William and Marshall Perry of Florida.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's Street, 4th Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605.
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home from 7-8:30 Wednesday evening.

LUCIA N. BROWN
TARBORO - Lucia Nanney Brown, 82, died Monday. Funeral service 2 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with Dr. Marcus Tilley officiating. Burial in Edgecombe Memorial Park.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph George Brown.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Joyce B. and Bob Fellows of Tarboro; granddaughters, Beverly J. Fellows and Karen M. Fellows, both of Tarboro, Susan A. Fellows of Greenville.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Carlisle Funeral Home and other times at 2235 Main Street, Tarboro.

DR. JAMES L. DARDEN JR.
AHOSKIE - Dr. James Lee Darden, Jr. 73, died Monday, February 15, 1999 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Dr. Darden was born in Union. Following graduation from Ahoskie High School, he attended Wake Forest College and Bowman Gray Medical School, receiving his diploma in 1947. Following an internship at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans and a one-year surgery residency in Wilmington, Delaware, he opened a family practice in Colerain in 1950. This was interrupted in 1955 by a two-year term in the U.S. Navy.
In 1957 he opened an office in Ahoskie and was joined in 1966 by Dr. Charles Sawyer in the firm known as Ahoskie Family Physicians. He continued his service there until 1997 when health problems forced him to retire.
During his career he served as chairman of Roanoke-Chowan Hospital's Board of Directors and also as Chairman of the Hertford County Heart Fund Chapter. He was known throughout the area as a superb physician whose skill, commitment and compassion endeared him to hundreds of patients and won him the respect and admiration of his professional associates.
In spite of poor health, he found many activities to keep him busy. He continued to enjoy the sport of golf and to entertain audiences as an after-dinner speaker. His well-known love of history led him to accept the Chairmanship of the Save Ahoskie High School Committee. In December 1977 he was proud to see the publication of his book, "Reflections," a humorous and nostalgic look at his experiences in practicing medicine and the friends who had brightened his life.
Dr. Darden is survived by his wife Lella; children, Deborah D. Ware and husband Richard of Bryn Mawr, PA, Charlotte D. Miller and husband Mill of Dayton, Ohio; son James Lee Darden, III and wife Linda of Winston-Salem, NC; brother, Dr. Thomas Darden and wife Madeline, Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Dan Ware, Laura Ware, Ellen Miller, Dan Miller, Emma Darden, and Jay Darden.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 1999 at Ahoskie First Baptist Church with Dr. Jesse J. Croom and Rev. Shelby Stephens officiating. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday and other times at 405 Circle Dr. Memorial donations may be made to Roanoke-Chowan Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, NC.
Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, NC is handling arrangements for the Darden family.

JOHN D. DOVE
FUQUAY-VARINA - John David Dove, 73, died Mon., Feb. 15, 1999, at 7 p.m. after an extended battle with Parkinson's Disease. He had been a patient at Cary Health and Rehabilitation Center since December of 1996. He was born in Willow Spring, North Carolina on Jan. 5, 1926, the sixth of seven children. He was descended from a family that settled Wake County in the 17th Century. His parents were the late John Bailey and Helen Wiggins Dove.
He served with honor in the United States Marine Corps, Fifth Division, during World War II. Mr. Dove saw military action in the Pacific Theatre of Operations, including engagements in the Philippines and Iwo Jima. He was an original member of the Paramarine Unit, active during World War II and was stationed in California, Hawaii, New Zealand and finally, in Tsing Tao, China. He was known throughout his life as a distinguished veteran of his beloved Corps.
After return from military service, he joined his father's business which included a lumber concern and tobacco. Mr. Dove also began what became a 48 years career in the automobile business, involved in dealerships in the Wake and Harnett county areas. (He is perhaps best known for his 15 year affiliation with Rawls Lincoln Mercury on Fayetteville Street in Raleigh.)
Mr. Dove was a prominent tobacco grower for more than 30 years. During that time, he was among the founders of the Wake County Tobacco Cooperative, one of the largest of its type in existence at its inception, and served as Chairman of the Board for many years. He was an ardent supporter of the Agriculture programs of North Carolina State University and received the Extension Service Award from that institution in 1974, honoring his service and expertise in tobacco research. He has been featured in numerous articles in the Progressive Farmer, Tobacco Grower and other regional and national publications.
Mr. Dove was very active in his community. He was a Charter Member of the Exchange Club of Fuquay-Varina, a past member of the Jaycees, the American Legion Post 116, the Masonic Lodge, and the Wake County Democratic Party. He taught Sunday School for 28 years at the Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church, carrying ministry to area nursing homes and was a founder of the Josephine and Paul Bradley Scholarship Fund at Campbell University. He was a past member of the Parents Association of Meredith College.
Mr. Dove was respected and honored by his peers and clients. His greatest joy was found in his work for those in need, giving little attention to notoriety for his actions. He was a devoted husband, father, uncle, mentor and friend.
Mr. Dove is survived by his wife, Sue McDonald Dove of Fuquay-Varina; daughter, Claudia Elizabeth Dove of London, England, Deborah Dove Smith and son-in-law, Charles Thomas Smith, III of Raleigh; sister, Helen Kate Smith of Willow Spring; brother, O. Charles Dove of Greenville, NC; nine nieces; seven nephews.
Funeral service will be held at the Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, Rev. Horace Hamm and Rev. Mike Stinson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Thomas Funeral Homne, 401 North Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999.
Contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., 1510 N.W. 9th Avenue/Bob Hope Road, Miami, Florida 33136 or to the Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 238 Chalybeate Road, Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, 27526.

WESLEY WILLIAM EGAN SR.
CHAPEL HILL - Wesley William Egan, Sr., 79, died at home Monday of a heart attack. A 28-year resident of Chapel Hill and a native of Flushing, Long Island, New York, Lt. Col. Egan earned degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He retired as a pilot from the Air Force after 32 years of service. Col. Egan was awarded the Purple Heart and his assignments included those as ROTC Commander and Professor of Aerospace Studies at UNC. Col. Egan also taught dramatic art at Kent State University in the early 1950s.
Col. Egan was active in community affairs both in Chapel Hill, most recently as a member of the Board of Adjustment, and on Ocracoke Island, where he and his wife own an inn. They met at St. George's Episcopal Church in Flushing. Col. Egan was also a former vestryman and active member at the Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Skeuse; sons Wesley William, Jr., of Washington, DC, and Bruce David of Chapel Hill; nephew Robert Barnola Egan of Sugar Land, Texas; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of the Cross.
Friends are asked to express their sympathy through donations to either the Chapel of the Cross or the charity of their choice.

ROBERT H. FORD SR.
GRAHAM - Mr. Robert Henry "Bob" Ford Sr., 80 of 1238 Quandry Lake Lane, Graham, NC died Monday, February 15, 1999 at 6:50 p.m. at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents the late Robert Lee Ford and Fannie Elizabeth Vann Ford and a brother, C.L. "Red" Ford.
Funeral, 11 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 1999 at the First Reformed United Church of Christ with Rev. Phillip Myers, Pastor, officiating. Burial, Pine Hill Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Daphne V. Ford of the home; daughters, Ms. Betty Ford of Graham, Ms. M. Phyllis Ford of Pine Knoll Shores; son, Mr. Robert Henry Ford, Jr. of Concord, California; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ford was born in Jackson, Georgia. He was a retired supervisor for Western Electric. He was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ, The Bible Class. He also served as an Elder and Deacon at the church. He was a WW II Aircorp Veteran and was a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple.
The family will receive friends at the First Reformed United Church of Christ Thursday morning from 10 until service time and on Wednesday evening at the residence.
Memorials may be made to the First Reformed United Church of Christ, 513 West Front Street, Burlington, NC 27215 or to the Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, NC 27216.
McClure Funeral Service of Graham is in charge of arrangements.

BETTIE GREY MCKEEL JONES
WALSTONBURG - Mrs. Bettie Grey McKeel Jones, of 201 Whitley Street, died Tuesday, February 16, 1999 in Spring Arbor in Wilson.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 3:30 p.m. from the Church Street Chapel of the Farmville Funeral Home by Rev. Seth Jones and Rev. Ray Dunlap. Interment will follow in Walstonburg Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Walstonburg Christian Church.
She is survived by daughters, Janice Jones Dawson of Raleigh, Carole Jones Taylor of Stantonsburg and Susan Jones Dietrich of Treveilians, VA; son, Jimmie Jones of Wilmington; sister, Hazel Mitchell of Winston-Salem; brother, Sam S. McKeel of Rosemont, PA; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Farmville Funeral, Wednesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

DORA W. KASTELBERG
CARY - Dora W. Kastelberg, 70, died February 15, 1999, at Western Wake Medical Center in Cary.
She was a native of Hampton, VA and moved to Cary from Poughkeepsie, NY 33 years ago. Mrs. Kastelberg was known to her family as a loving wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Kastelberg; sons, Joseph Charles Kastelberg of Raleigh, Henry Steven Kastelberg and wife, Cindy of New Hill; daughter, Janet Kay Brennan of Cary; grandchildren, Karl Steven and Katherine Elizabeth Kastelberg; and her mother, Mary Kastelberg of Hampton, VA.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 1999 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ The King, 600 Walnut St., Cary, NC 27511 or to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Inc., Raleigh.
