GARNER - Wilma Yeargan Bass, 88, of Garner, died Monday.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Bryan Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner.
Surviving: sisters, Geneva Y. Rand, Flora A. Yeargan, and Rowann Yeargan, all of Garner, Grace Hetherington of Carversville, Pa. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sherman A. Yeargan and L.C. "Cam" Yeargan.
Visitation, 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Bethel Baptist Church, 2110 Benson Road, Garner, N.C. 27529.

BETSY PAGE BERNSTEIN
RALEIGH - Betsy Page Bernstein, 84, of 2600 Oberlin Road, died Monday.
She is survived by a son, Page Bernstein and his wife, Sally of Cashiers; a brother, Junius A. Page and his wife, Margie of Newport News, Va.; three grandchildren, Kelly Keim, Morris M. Bernstein, Keith M. Bernstein; three great-grandsons, Bobby Austin, and Patrick Keim.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pinckney "Bernie" Bernstein and a son, Morris M. Bernstein.
Mrs. Bernstein was a member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Hayes-Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.

DOROTHY E. BRADSHAW
STANTONSBURG - Dorothy Evans Bradshaw, 86, died Wednesday.
She and her husband, Robert operated Bradshaw's Grill in Stantonsburg for more than 50 years.
Funeral , Friday, 2 p.m., Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Chapel, Wilson. Interment, Stantonsburg, Cemetery.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Dennis R. Bradshaw of Lynchburg, Va; sister, Altrue Tillman of Pikeville; close friends, Donald and Justine Newcomb of Wilson.
The family will be at the funeral home, today, 7-8:30 p.m.

WILLIAM CLYDE HILL
KANNAPOLIS - Mr. William Clyde Hill, 86, of Jackson Street, died Sunday, April 4, 1999 at Coble Health Care, Methodist Retirement Community, Durham. He had declining health for a number of years. Graveside service 12:30 p.m. Saturday with Masonic Graveside Service by Allen Graham at Carolina Memorial Park. Rev. Norman Brisson officiating.
Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:15 Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home.
He was born November 20, 1912 in Union County, to the late Bright and Cora Tarleton Hill and a retired employee of Cannon Mills.
He was preceded in death by his wives; Gladys A. Hill who died March 25, 1971 and Rebecca P. Hill who died January 14, 1995.
Surviving: daughter, Barbara Snyder of Frankfort, KY; sons, Dennis Hill of Durham and Doug Hill of Atlanta, GA; two half sisters, Mrs. Connie Hill Walker and Mrs. Sarah Hill Harmon; both of Charlotte; two brothers, Marvin Hill of Marshville and Everette Hill of Wingate; four grandchildren; Betsy Snyder Helton of Bloomington, IN, Lincoln Snyder of Louisville, KY, Mary Elizabeth Hill and Andrew Hill, both of Durham; one great-grandchild, Alexander Helton.
Memorials may be donated to First Baptist Church of Kannapolis or Watts Street Baptist Church of Durham.

INEZ MARTIN
PRINCETON - Inez Martin, 79, of Bizzell Grove Church Rd., died Tuesday.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Bizzell's Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will be in Bizzell's Grove Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are: two sisters, Betty Eliza Gurley of Smithfield and Edith M. McDuffy of Princeton; five nieces and nephew.

ELEANOR E. NASH
RALEIGH - Eleanor Edwards Nash, 65, died Tuesday.
Funeral 2 p.m. today, Sugg Funeral Chapel, Fuquay-Varina. Burial, Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

JOHN AARON SHEARIN
ROCKY MOUNT - John Aaron Shearin 50, died Monday, April 5, 1999. He was born December 16, 1948 in Nash County to the late James A. Shearin and Annie Lee Clay Shearin of Red Oak. He was a member of South Rocky Mount Church of God. Mr. Shearin's life was ended while being a good Samaritan to a fellowman.
Besides his mother, survivors include his wife, Vickie Joyner Shearin of the home; sons, Kurt Shearin of Arizona, Brian Shearin of the home, Craig Shearin of Rocky Mount; daughters, Amanda and Allyson Shearin, both of Rocky Mount; stepdaughter and stepson, Cammy and Chris Cooley of the home; grandson, Anthony Shearin; sisters, Brenda S. Glover of Elm City, Helen S. Ayers of Rocky Mount; brothers, Jim Shearin of Rocky Mount, Barry Shearin of Spartanburg, SC.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 1999 at Bowling Funeral Home, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC.
Memorials may be made to the South Rocky Mount Church of God Building Fund.

NANNIE KING SORRELL
CARY - Nannie King Sorrell, age 87, of 850 Apple Tree Ln., Cary, NC died early April 7, 1999 at Western Wake Hospital due to an extended illness. She was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband Elvis W. Sorrell in 1985.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 9, 1999 in the Reedy Creek Baptist Church in Cary, NC. Officiating will be Rev. Bruce Johnson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors: one daughter, Betty S. Klein and husband Benny of Cary, NC; two grandchildren, Barbara O'Quinnand husband Jonathan of Cleveland, Ohio, and Billy Klein of Cary, NC.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999 at Apex Funeral Home, 511 West Williams St. (Hwy. 55), Apex, NC.

R. STUART STEELE
HICKORY - R. Stuart Steele, 77,of 412 7th St. NE, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at Catawba Memorial Hospital. He was born May 20, 1921 to John Brown Steele and Lillian Moore Steele in Happy Valley, NC. He had retired as general manager and owner of Steele Rulane Gas Company. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hickory.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 1999 at the First United Methodist Church in Hickory. Burial, Catawba Memorial Park.The Rev. Paul Starnes and Rev. Howard Fleming will officiate. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Fellowship Class at First United Methodist Church and the retired employees of Steele Rulane Gas Company.
Mr. Steele was preceded in death by a sister, Mada Steele of Hickory and a brother, Jack Steele of Chattanooga, TN.
Survivors include his wife, Cornelia S. Steele of the home; daughters, Sharyn S. Vaughn of Chapel Hill and Leigh S. Lehan of Raleigh; son, Robert S. Steele, Jr. of Oak Ridge, TN; stepdaughters, Pam Christopher of Statesville and Mary Mitchell of Hickory; stepsons, Glenn Setliff of Durham and Rob Setliff of Hickory; brothers, Hugh Steele of San Diego, CA, Charles Steele of Cincinnati, OH, James Steele of Hudson, NC, Frank Steele of Valdese, NC and Henry Steele of Hudson, NC; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; eight step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Steele Memorial Fund, c/o First Methodist Church, 311 3rd Ave NE, Hickory, NC 28601.

HERMAN EARL STRICKLAND
NEWTON GROVE - Mr. Herman Earl Strickland, 61, of 941 Almon Rd., died Tuesday, April 6, 1999. Son of the late Herman Allan and Estelle Whitley Strickland.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 8, 1999 at Minshew Funeral Home, Four Oaks from 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Minshew Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens. The Revs. Niles Compton and Freddie Langston will officiate the service.
Surviving: wife, Bonnie Allen Strickland; daughter, Dawn Guin of Newton Grove; son, Keith Earl Strickland of Newton Grove; sisters, Faye Batten of Four Oaks, Evelyn Hartsell of Henderson; brother, Edwin Strickland of Newton Grove; granddaughter, Peri Strickland of Benson.

JAMES LAWRENCE SWANN
ANGIER - JAMES Lawrence Swann, 36, of 98 Mary Ct., died Sunday at Wake Medical Center. He was a employee of Readlite & Barricade Co. Funeral 3 p.m. Friday, Montlawn Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation for friends and family one prior to the service at the funeral home.
He is survived by his son, James Lawrence Adams; mother and stepfather, Mary G. and McKinley Farmer of Raleigh; sisters, Cathy Culbreth, Mary Vaughan, Stephanie Farmer; brothers, Joseph Swann, Lester Clark and Gary Simpson.
Arrangements by Montlawn Funeral Home, Raleigh.

ANNA ELAINE vonOESEN
WILMINGTON - Anna Elaine vonOesen, 8117 Blue Heron Dr., Wilmington, NC died Tuesday, April 6, 1999.
She was born in Wilmington, NC on September 6, 1913, the daughter of the late Martin and Adeline Behrens vonOesen.
She graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College, Hickory, NC and received advanced degrees in library science and history from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She worked in public libraries in Maryland, Georgia, and North Carolina, and was librarian at Camp Davis during World War II. After five years on the School of Library Science faculty at UNC, in 1952 she became a public library consultant for the North Carolina Library Commission which merged with the State Library in 1956. She was appointed Assistant State Librarian in 1965 and retired in 1976. Miss vonOesen was active in the American, Southeastern, and North Carolina Library Associations. She also served in various capacities in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Raleigh, before returning to Wilmington in 1988.
Surviving are a brother, Henry M. vonOesen of Wilmington, NC; two nieces, Mrs. Elaine Oakey of Charlottesville, VA and Mrs. Martha McNeal of Palo Alto, CA; a nephew, Dr. Davis vonOesen of Lynchburg, VA; five grand-nieces and two grand-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 1999 at the Lutheran Church of Reconciliation conducted by Rev. Larry Myers. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
The family will be at 412 W. Renovah Circle, Wilmington.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of Reconciliation, 7500 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28405.

NEVA MAY WYNN
CREEDMOOR - Neva May Wynn, 97, a resident of 2801 Grove Hill Road, Franklinton, died Tuesday, April 6, in Raleigh Community Hospital.
A native of Granville County, the daughter of the late Rufus Calvin and Betty McGhee Wynn. She was a member of Grove Hill United Methodist church and was a homemaker.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Grove Hill United Methodist Church by the Rev. Diane Blanchard and Rev. Tommy Robertson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are: two daughters, Anna Mae Fuller (John) of Raleigh, Betty W. Renn (Randy) of Franklinton; two sons, Rufus R. Wynn (Shirley) of Raleigh, Howard Wynn (Nancy) of Creedmoor; one half sister, Elizabeth Mae Patterson of Raleigh; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Flowers accepted or memorials may be given to Grove Hill United Methodist church, 2593 Flat Rock Road, Franklinton, NC 27525.
Visitation from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home of Randall and Betty Renn, 2778 Grove Hill Road, Franklinton.

CHARLES THOMAS BARBER
1935-1999
N. PALM BEACH, FLA. - Charles Thomas Barber, 63, of 1200 Marine Way, died Thursday. He was formerly of 744 Winston Road, Clayton, N.C. He was the son of the late Bevy Frank and Josie Wood Barber of Wake County. He was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Barber and a sister, Kathleen Taylor.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, April 27 at 1 p.m. at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, N.C.
He is survived by a son, Steve Barber of Clayton; daughters, Debbie Mosley of Benson and Vickie Redfern of Wake Forest; four grandchildren, Amy, Amber, Ashley and Megan; one great-grandchild, Justice; sisters, Robbie McSwain of Goldsboro, Betty Ferrell and Dixie Cahall, both of Raleigh; also a number of friends in the Raleigh and North Palm Beach area.
Family will receive family and friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 26, at Montlawn Funeral Home, Raleigh, North Carolina.

JOSHUA ADAM HEWETT
OCT. 3, 1980 - MARCH 11, 1999
RALEIGH - A service of remembrance will be held for Joshua Adam Hewett in the Raleigh Rose Garden on Sunday, April 25, 1999 at 12-noon. The Rev. Marcia F. Curtis, Affiliate Minister, Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will preside.
Family and friends will present their remembrances of Josh and balloons will be released with messages for him. Family and friends will then gather at the home of Josh's mother, Dr. Karen Nicholson Paine, 3 Henderson Street, Raleigh.
