FUQUAY-VARINA - Francis Edward "Bud" Gattis, 55, died Friday, April 2, 1999. Graveside funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh.
Surviving: wife, Patricia G. Gattis; daughter, Susan M. Gattis and husband, Carl E. Watkins, Jr. of Raleigh; granddaughter, Meghann S. Ennis of Raleigh; sister, Claudia G. Martin and husband, Alfred, of Hagerstown, Maryland; niece, Kelli Martin and nephew, Jeffrey Martin of Hagerstown, Maryland; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Godbout of Falls Church, Virginia; many other loving family members.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina and other times at the Gattis home, 2613 Knightwood Road, Fuquay-Varina.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

BERNARD JEFFERY "JEFF" HURT
RALEIGH - Bernard Jeffery "Jeff" Hurt, 36, of Raleigh, died Saturday, April 3, 1999. Jeff owned and operated Professional Hair Court Salon. He was a member of Dortches Baptist Church of Rocky Mount. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, MS. Burial will follow in the Ellison Ridge Baptist Church cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, Morris J. and June W. Hurt of Elm City; maternal grandmother, Donie C. Whitehead of Louisville, MS; brother and sister-in-law, Marcus J. and Deannie C. Hurt of Youngsville; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret H. and Timothy D. Pearse of Rocky Mount; nephews, Michael J. and Mason K. Hurt; four nieces, Charlotte A. Hurt, Meagan D. Pearse, Crysta D. Pearse, and Jamey Alys Pearse.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Rd., Raleigh.

LUCY H. JENKINS
SNOW HILL - Mrs. Lucy Harrison Jenkins, 87, died Saturday evening at the home of her daughter following a brief illness. Mrs. Harrison was born on April 7, 1911 to the late Zeb and Ida Whaley Harrison. She was an active member of Hull Road Free Will Baptist Church where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Lady's Auxillary. Mrs. Jenkins had a deep love for the community of Arba in Greene County where she was born and raised. In addition to loving her community and the people in it, she also had both a deep appreciation and love for nature.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Hull Road Free Will Baptist Church with the Reverend Leon Grubbs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her husband, Issac Jenkins and a son, Richard Marlow Letchworth.
Survivors include: daughters, Betty L. Broadwell of Kinston and Amy L. Fordham and husband Marvin of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Beth Rubio and husband Carlos of Atlanta, GA, Pamela Petersen and husband Bob of Fairfield, CA, Paula Grant and husband Andrew of Snow Hill, Debra Taylor of Oklahoma City, OK, Derek G. Hines and wife Kathy of Atlanta, GA, and Jim Broadwell and wife Debra of Allendale, MI; sisters, Nan H. Jones of Snow Hill, Ellen H. Moye of LaGrange and Bebe H. Allen of Kinston; brothers, George Harrison and wife Betty and Zeb Roy Harrison and wife Ethel, all of Snow Hill; eight great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Taylor-Edwards Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Mrs. Jenkins, Route 2 (Fred Harrison Rd.), Snow Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hull Road FWB Church, Route 2 Box 290, Snow Hill, NC 28580

ETHEL J. MASSEY
RALEIGH - ETHEL JANE MASSEY, 90, of 2712 Layden Street, formerly of the Wake Cross Roads area, died Sunday, April 4, 1999.
Funeral service, 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel. Burial, Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: brothers, Joseph A. Massey and his wife Lela Mae Massey of Raleigh, David F. Massey and his wife Jewel Massey of Raleigh; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Monday, April 5, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, N.C. 27545 and at other times at 2712 Layden Street, Raleigh.

JAMES J. MAY
SPRING HOPE - James Jackson May, age 36, of 5495 Lancaster Store Road, died Saturday, April 3, 1999.
Funeral service will be conducted Monday from the Peachtree Baptist Church at 2 p.m. by Rev. Paul Tolbert. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. James was a member of Peachtree Baptist Church.
He is survived by his father and mother, James Linwood and Carol Jean May of Spring Hope, one brother, David E. May of Nashville; grandmother, Louise M. May of Spring Hope.
The family will be receiving friends at the home.
Arrangement by Spring Hope Funeral Home.

GLADYS S. MENDENHALL
RALEIGH - Gladys S. Mendenhall, 85, of Raleigh, died Friday. Mrs. Mendenhall was retired from Sears Credit Department. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oakwood Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Richard W. Mendenhall Jr. of Raleigh; daughter, Alice Sue Rampey of Sumter, S.C.; sister, Ruby Chilson of Salisbury; four grandchildren; and four-great-grandchildren.

ALMA HOOKS NORTHCUTT
CARY - Alma Hooks Northcutt, 83, of Cary, died Sunday, April 4, 1999. A funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of Cary. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Cary.
She is survived by her daughters, Sylvia N. Leebrick of Apex and Donna N. Mills of Greenville; sister, Ruth Hartsfield of Cary; sister-in-law, Lois Hooks of Apex; grandson and wife, Dustin and Pattie Mills; and grandson, Ryan Leebrick.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Cary.

LOUIS "PLUM" S. O'NEAL
WILSON - Louis "Plum" Swindell O'Neal, 83, former owner of Midway Market, died April 3, 1999. He was born June 5, 1915. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner Funeral Home, 4100 US 264 West, with the Rev. Ray Barnhill and Dr. Bob Walker officiating. Burial, Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Survivors: wife, Mary Hicks O'Neal; daughter, Lynda O'Neal Markewitz of Japan; sons, Louis Grant O'Neal of Rocky Mount, Michael Allen O'Neal of Wilmington; stepson, William Whitley III of Cary; sister, Grace Hayes of Wilmington; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation, Monday from 7-9 p.m. at Joyner's Funeral Home.
The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Forest Hill Baptist Church, Building Fund-1407 Forest Hill Road, Wilson, N.C. 27896.

MORTON F. ROBERTS SR.
YOUNGSVILLE - Morton Forrest Roberts Sr., 75, of 4078 Hugh Davis Road died Saturday, at the VA Hospital in Durham. He had retired from Benson Aircraft after 25 years of service, and was a lifetime member of AMVETS, and the Disabled American Veterans.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. today in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.
Surviving is his wife Elizabeth H. Roberts; stepsons, Donald Holliday, Walter Holliday and Douglas Holliday all of Youngsville, Wayne Holliday of Davidson, N.C. Henry Holliday of Augusta, Ga. and Buddy Holliday of New Bern, N.C.; a sister, Carolyn Gomez of San Franciso, Calif.; sixteen step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Franklin County, 1937 NC Hwy 39 North, Louisburg, N.C. 27549.

ANTHONY FLOYD "TONY" SELLERS
AUG. 15, 1956 - APRIL 1, 1999
Raleigh - Anthony Floyd "Tony" Sellers, 42, of 6421 Malibu Drive, a Retail Specialist with D&H Marketing, died suddenly Thursday.
Funeral service 2 p.m. today at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving: wife, Kathy Pearce Sellers; son, Robert Anthony "Bobby" Sellers of the home; parents, Floyd S. and Violet M. Sellers of Raleigh; brother, Michael Sellers of Alpharetta, GA.
Contributions may be made to the Bobby Sellers Scholarship Fund, in care of D&H Marketing, P.O. Box 1229, Burgaw, N.C. 28425.

MABEL E. WATSON
RALEIGH - Mrs. Mabel Elizabeth Scott Watson, 1000 Plateau Lane, Raleigh, NC, formerly of 112 S. Lloyd St., Salisbury, NC, died Saturday., April 3, 1999 at Sunnybrook Healthcare Specialist, Raleigh, of declining health for several years. She was born Sept. 10, 1904 in Mecklenburg Co. to the late Josephine Alexander Scott and John Scott. She attended the public schools of Mecklenburg Co., and retired food service employee at Catawba College, Salisbury. A member of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, Salisbury; member the Deaconess and Stewardess Boards; member of the Pearl White Chapter #180 Order of The Eastern Star; the AMICAE of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Connia "C.H." Watson Sr, who died in 1994.
Surviving: sons, Connias H. "C.H." (Zelphia G, wife) Watson Jr. of Durham, NC, Odell A. (Annette, wife) Watson of Raleigh; brother-in-law and wife, Andrew E. (Jerome) Watson of Charlotte; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, Salisbury, NC. Reverend Johnson K. Asibuo, Pastor, officiating. Burial, Oakdale Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
Visitation 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, Salisbury, NC.
The family will greet friends at the Hampton Inn Hotel, Salisbury, NC after 7 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 1999.

JAMES ALBERT WILLIFORD
WENDELL - James Albert Williford, age 72, of 6000 Watkins Road, a retired farmer and also retired from First Union National Bank Service Center died Saturday April 3, 1999.
Funeral, 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at Bethany Baptist Church. Burial, Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, 3417 Rolesville Road, Wendell.
Surviving: wife, Laura Lynn Ray Williford; son, Albert "Freddy" Williford and his wife Vicky Bunn Williford of Zebulon; granddaughter, April Nicole Williford of Zebulon; sisters, Margaret W. White of Raleigh and JoAnn W. Mitchell of Rolesville.
The family will receive relatives and friends Monday evening April 5, 1999, from 7-9 p.m., at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, and at other times at the home on 6000 Watkins Road, Wendell.

LESSIE BAUGH WRIGHT
WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Lessie Baugh Wright, formerly of Winston-Salem, died Sunday morning at McCloud Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC. She was born June 3, 1916 in Raleigh to Hubert I. Baugh and Minda Partin Baugh. Mrs. Wright moved to Winston-Salem in 1966 and was a longtime employee of Bowman Gray School of Medicine. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Wright.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia W. Chapman and her husband Tom of Florence, SC and Carol W. Nazzaro and her husband Russ of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one grandson, Mark Andrew Dillon and his wife Kimbra of Dillon, SC; three step-grandchildren, Mark Chapman, Kimberly Chapman and Jessica Lacroix; a niece, Barbara Davis and her husband Jack of Chattanooga, TN and a nephew, William Avent and his wife Glenda of Denver, Colorado.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Vogler Reynolda Rd. Chapel, conducted by Dr. Jeff Roberts. Interment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Northwest Baptist Church, 407 Petree Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106.

THOMAS W. DEWAR
RALEIGH - Thomas Wayne Dewar, 66, of 8240 Holly Springs Road, died Monday, July 19, 1999. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 1999 at Swift Creek Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery.
Mr. Dewar was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration and helped his wife start and operate their family business, Fairview Greenhouses and Garden Center.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, JoAnn Matthews Dewar; mother, Frances Tingen Dewar; sons, Wayne Dewar, Phillip Dewar and wife, Tonja; daughters, Sandra Rearden and husband, Bernie and Susan Rollins and husband, Jack, all of Raleigh; grandchildren, Brad Rollins, Karlie Rollins, Meghan Dewar and Taylor Sears; brother, Mack Dewar of Fuquay-Varina.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 1999 at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's Street, 4th Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605.

JUNE O. GRIMES
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. June Owens Grimes, 68, of Charlotte, died July 20, 1999, at University Hospital.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, 1999, at Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd.
Visitation is Thurs. July 22, 1999, 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Grimes was born April 15, 1931 in Charlotte, daughter of the late Rufus Owens and Ira Belle Hager Owens.
She was a member of Unity Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Surviving: husband, Wilton Grimes; sons, Alan V. Greer and wife, Carolyn of Salisbury, Billy W. Greer and wife Patsy of Monterey, CA, Wilton C. Grimes, Jr., and his wife Suzanne of Plano, TX; daughter, Rebecca G. Schneider and husband Don of Charlotte; brothers, Walter Owens of Houston, TX, Tommy Owens of Charlotte; sisters, Patsy Boyte and Jane Ligon both of Charlotte; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel is serving the family of Mrs. Grimes.
