GLADYS S. HAUSER
RALEIGH - Gladys Smith Hauser, beloved wife and mother, 74, of Raleigh, died Monday, July 19, 1999.
Mrs. Hauser was born in Yadkin County, North Carolina, the daughter of Coetta Smith Norman and the late James Ernest Smith.
Mrs. Hauser was a member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher with the Devoted Ruths Class.
Mrs. Hauser was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Millbrook Chapter #293 and was a past Matron and was a member of North State Shrine #10.
Mrs. Hauser retired as a certified registered nurse anesthetist at Duke University Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 1999 in Hayes Barton Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, William Kerr Hauser of the home; mother, Coetta Smith Norman of Pfafftown, N.C.; sons, William Richard Hauser of Fuquay-Varina, James Alexander and wife, Sara Shupe Hauser of Knightdale; daughter, Marilyn Hauser Moncol and husband Daniel James Moncol, Jr. of Apex; brothers, James Ernest Smith of Cornelius, and Donald Smith of Pfafftown; sisters, Betty Jo Linville of Rural Hall, N.C., grandchildren, William Paul Banks, William Richard Hauser, II, Monica Renee Hauser, Megan Elizabeth Hauser, Brittany Grey Hauser, Christian Alexander Hauser; great-grandchildren, Ethan Ryan Banks, Meredith Ann Hauser and Chad James Porter.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 1999 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road and Thursday following the funeral at 4228 K Held Road, Knightdale, N.C.

MILTON RANSOM HORTON
RALEIGH - Milton Ransom Horton, 69, of 508 N. King Charles Road, died Saturday.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired cook with Finch's Restaurant with many years of service.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Horton is survived by his wife, Anezka C. Horton; son, Milton Clifford Horton of Raleigh; daughters, Martha Kaye Forehand of Raleigh, Jasmine Faye Walker of Uhrichsville, OH; stepson, Peter Jan Kinberger of Angier; grandchildren, Carly Elizabeth Forehand, Sandra Colleen Forehand, Jason Alan Forehand, Shannon Leslie Cochran, Blain Edward Walker, II; brothers, Paul Worth Horton, Jr. of Emerald Isle, Joseph Lee Horton of Lilburn, GA; sisters, Margaret Grace Dail of Raleigh, Shirley Leona Yount of Benson.
Preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Marsh of Knightdale.
Family received relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Montlawn Funeral Home, Raleigh.
HOWARD H. "H.H." SIMPSON
HAMPTON, VA - Mr. Howard H. "H.H." Simpson, 90, formerly of Newton Grove, NC, died Sunday, July 18, 1999.
Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday, Newton Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Oldham officiating.
Burial, Clinton Cemetery, Clinton, NC.
Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Lou Simpson; son, Bobby Simpson; brother, Thurman Simpson and a sister, Josephine Brown Rhodes and a daughter, Jean Simpson Rose.
Surviving: son-in-law, George B. Rose of Williamsburg; grandsons, Barry Rose of Williamsburg, Kevin S. Rose of Lexington Park, MD, David C. and wife, Lisa Rose of Herndon; great-grandson, Payton Charles Rose; brothers, Evander Simpson, Jr. of Smithfield, NC, Grady Simpson of Clinton, NC; sisters, Flora Owens of Fayetteville, NC, Jeannette Swope of Oklahoma City, OK.
Mr. Simpson attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, receiving undergraduate and masters degrees.
For most of his adult life he was a high school principle, serving at Herring High, Westbrook High, Stoneville High and Hobbton High Schools.
He was also, an insurance agent, a member of the Tarheel Association of Principles and Assist Principal and a member of Newton Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

KATHERINE B. BATES
RALEIGH - Katherine Elizabeth Blalock Bates, 83, formerly of 214 Camden St., Raleigh, daughter of John Oscar Sr. and Maggie Horton Rivers Blalock, departed this life on July 18, 1999 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
Graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 1999 in Carolina Biblical Gardens.
EUNICE TRIPLETT DAVIS
RALEIGH - Eunice Triplett Davis, 72, of Raleigh, died Monday, July 19, 1999.
She was the daughter of the late Perry C. Triplett and Agnes K. Triplett.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road.
Surviving are daughters, Sylvia Womble of Raleigh, Nona Shatley of Knightdale; son, Larry Parsons of Rainelle, WVa.; sisters, Ruth Icenhour of Blowing Rock, Kathryn Correll of Lenoir; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

HARRIET F. DOAR
CHARLOTTE - Harriet Olding Fraser Doar, 87, of Sharon Towers, Charlotte, died Sunday, July 18, 1999.
Mrs. Doar was born on March 25, 1912, in Charlotte, a daughter of the late James William Fraser and Annie Laurie Macgillivray Fraser.
She graduated from Central High School and attended Duke University and the University of North Carolina.
A member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Doar began her career with the Charlotte News as an intern and after 46 years, retired from the Charlotte Observer.
She won numerous awards for her columns, short stories, and poetry collection, "The Restless Water."
She was the founder and past president of N.C. Press Women's Association and in 1993, was inducted into the Journalist Hall of Fame in Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Doar is survived by her daughter, Jane D. Rondthaier of Portland, Ore.; son, James F. Doar of Lake Oswego, Ore.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Jolly, Catherine Brandsberg, Mary Rondthaier, all of Portland, Ore., Jordana Doar of Seattle, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Caroline, Hewlen and Will Jolly, Cameron and Nicholas Brandsberg and Hunter Weiffenbach.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

LOUISE F. ENGLEHART
KINSTON - Mrs. Louise Freeman Englehart, of 1113 W. Lenoir Avenue, died Monday, July 19, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.
Born in Windsor, the daughter of Samuel Patterson Freeman and Genevieve Thomas Freeman, she was educated in the Windsor Schools and at Salem College in Winston-Salem and held a life long interest in art and literature.
She was married to Thomas Pearson Jimison Jr., who died in 1946.
After moving to Kinston, she was married to Dr. Earle Webster Englehart.
She is survived by a son, Thomas P. Jimison III and wife, Mary Alice; daughter, Ann Brandon Englehart Donaldson and son-in-law, Jonathan H. Donaldson.
Funeral service will be held on July 22, at 1 p.m. from St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Kinston with graveside service, 4 p.m. from Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor with the Rev. Thomas Chaffer officiating.
Memorials may be made to a contribution of choice.

JAMES GADDO
CLAYTON - James W. Gaddo, 41, died Friday, July 16, 1999. He was born January 29, 1958 in Fayetteville.
He was a resident of Johnston County where he worked as a salesman.
Mr. Gaddo was the son of Peter Gaddo and the late Barbara Gaddo of Johnston County.
He is survived by his brother, David Gaddo of Johnston County; sister, Teena Ege of Wayne County; five nieces and nephews.
The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes. Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.
GLADYS W. GOODSON
MOUNT OLIVE - Gladys Wells Goodson, 85, retired librarian of East Duplin High School, died Wednesday.
Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday, Tyndall Funeral Chapel.
Officiating will be Rev. Carlisle Franks and Rev. Paul Rose. Burial, Maplewood Cemetery.
Surviving: husband of 64 years, John M. Goodson of the home; daughter, Betty G. Sutton of Cary; sons, Dr. John Phillip "Phil" Goodson of Raleigh, James Michael "Mike" Goodson of Princeton, N.J., Robert Linwood "Bobby" Goodson of Goldsboro; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday and other times at the home, 496 White Flash Road, Mount Olive.

LENA "PAT" E. GRAVELY
DURHAM - Mrs. Lena "Pat" Proffitt Evans Gravely, 86, died Monday, July 19, in the J.F. Coble Center of the United Methodist Retirement Home in Durham from complications following a heart attack.
She was a life long resident of Asheville and was married to Dr. George J. Evans in 1933.
Following his death, she married W. Allan Gravely in 1967.
She was active in the Central United Methodist Church and the Asheville Woman's Club.
She also served as Treasurer of the North Carolina Federation of Woman's Clubs for two years.
In 1994, she moved to Durham.
Surviving are her son, George J. Evans and his wife, Blair Evans of Chapel Hill; two stepsons, W. Allan Gravely Jr. and his wife, Dottie Gravely of Northport, Ala., Dr. Ben T. Gravely and his wife, Martha Gravely of Raleigh; three sisters, Mrs. V.L. Lemmons, Mrs. Dan Mabry and Mrs. Smith Wood of Gaffney, S.C.; brother, Mr. Edward Proffitt of Bakersville; eight grandchildren, Hensley Evans, Coulter Evans, David Gravely, Margaret Lanning, Charles Gravely, Sharon Gravely, Alison Gravely and Joel Gravely.
A service will be held in the St. John's Chapel of the United Methodist Retirement Home at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 31. A burial service will be held in Riverside Cemetery in Asheville at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3.

RALEIGH - David Hamrick, 23, died the afternoon of July 18, 1999.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Cary.
Officiating will be Dr. Luther Brewer. The burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
Surviving are his parents, Don and Laura Hamrick of Apex; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Troy Hamrick of Ellenboro, NC; uncle, Vincent Hamrick and his wife, Ann Marie Hamrick of Rural Hall, NC; aunt, Juanda Halliwill and her husband, Dr. Ralph Halliwill of Gastonia, NC.

GEORGE A. HARDING
CHAPEL HILL - George A. Harding passed away Saturday, July 17, 1999.
He was born in Lawrence, Kan. on June 1, 1918.
He is survived by his beloved wife Sarajane of 57 years. His loving family includes daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and John Stow; three grandsons, Ryan, Jeff and Kevin Stow.
Many other friends and relatives will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Advent Lutheran Church in Chapel Hill.
