WINTA WINSTON HOLDEN
YOUNGSVILLE - Winta Winston Holden, 91, of Youngsville, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999 at Wake Medical Center. She was born in Franklin County and was the daughter of the late Madge Hall Winston and Edward Lee Winston. She was married to William Toby Holden who preceded her in death and was a member of the Youngsville Baptist Church, Youngsville Homemakers Club and Youngsville Woman's Club. A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 1999 at Oak Level Christian Church Cemetery with Rev. Bryan Hatcher officiating.
Mrs. Holden is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Ann Holden of Youngsville; sister, Kathrine Kline of Florida; grandchildren, Wendy Anderson of Youngsville, Chris Holden of Asheville, Ernie Holden of Youngsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Youngsville Rescue Service, P.O. Box 78, Youngsville, NC 27596 or to the Flat Rock Baptist Church Building Fund, 1529 Flat Rock Church Road, Louisburg, NC 27549.
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

MARSHALL L. HORTON
OCT. 21, 1946 - JULY 20, 1999
ZEBULON - Marshall Lee Horton, 52, of 1317 Carroll Heights Rd., died Tuesday morning at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Wendell. Burial, Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Zebulon.
Surviving: wife, Flonnie Turnage Horton; sons, Danny Lee Horton and Christopher Lynn Horton, both of Zebulon; sisters, Thelma Gray Worley of Clayton, Margaret Pace of Franklinton and Pauline Tant of Raeford; brothers, Bobby Joe Horton of Wendell and Billy Horton of Zebulon; grandchildren, Scott Horton, Tyler Smith, D.J. Horton, Michael Horton and Cody Horton.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, other times at the home.

REV. JAMES B. "JIM" IVEY JR.
ELBERON, VA - The Rev. James Beal "Jim" Ivey, Jr., 53, a resident of White Marsh Road, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999 in a Suffolk, VA hospital. He was born on September 25, 1945 in Raleigh, NC.
Jim was a graduate of Campbell College, Buies Creek, NC and was a 1971 graduate of Southeastern Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC. He served for 20 years at Crater Juvenile Detention Center, Petersburg, retiring as Director of Operations in 1996. He was pastor of Mill Swamp Baptist Church, Ivor, VA from 1970-1976. In 1976, Jim founded Grace Bible Church, Elberon where he continued as founding pastor until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Jenny" Wellons Ivey; his mother, Retha Revels Ivey of Elberon; aunt, Rebecca Craddock; uncle, C.R. Craddock, both of Raleigh.
The Rev. Temple Myers and the Rev. Sidney Rodriquez will hold funeral service in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield on Thursday, July 22, 1999 at 2 p.m. Burial will be in MillSwamp Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence of his wife and mother on White Marsh Road, Elberon.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes. Association, P.O. Box 120016, Newport News, VA 23612-0016.

WINNIE "RUTH" LEE
RALEIGH - Winnie Ruth Lee, of 3208 Idlewood Village Dr., died Saturday.
Funeral 1 p.m. Thursday at Compassionate Baptist Church.
Burial, Carolina Biblical Gardens.
Surviving: daughters, Olivia "Libby" Jordan of Raleigh and Vivian Ann Lee of the home; sons, Rickey Edward Lee of Wendell; sisters, Juanita Lee McClenon of Norfolk, VA; brothers, Rudolph Lee and Norvell Lewis Lee, both of New York, and Rev. Dr. Theodore Robert Lee, Sr. of Kansas; grandchildren, Jermaine R. Jordan, Candice L. Johnson and Jovita A. Lee.

CLARA ETHEL McLEAN
ANGIER - Clara Ethel McLean, 75, of Willow Spring, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, Kennebec Baptist Church Dr. Richard Walker officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving: husband, W.C. McLean; daughters, Annie "Bootsie" Arnold of Willow Spring, Nancy Collins of Buies Creek; sons, W.C. "Billy" McLean Jr. of Angier, Rev. Phillip McLean of Monroe, James McLean of Fuquay-Varina, Rev. Tom McLean of Rocky Mount; sisters, Evelyn Byrd of Apex, Ruth Karren of California; brother, Vernon Matthews of California; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Overby-Johnson Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. today.

DAVID BROOKS "SUGIE" MOYE
RALEIGH - David Brooks "Sugie" Moye, 62, a man who truly loved the Lord with all of his heart, mind, soul and strength, went home to live with his Precious Savior on July 19, 1999.
Mr. Moye was a native of Snow Hill, and a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. He was a stock broker, working in Kinston, Asheboro and was currently employed with Marion Bass Securities in Raleigh.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Rd.
Burial will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday in Snow Hill Cemetery, Snow Hill.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David Brooks and Julie Moye, Jr. of Morrisville; daughter, Christine Stuart Moye of Cary, daughter and son-in-law, Celia Moye and Coby Farley of Greensboro; brothers and sister-in-laws, J.C. and Jan Moye, Dr. Bob and Betty Moye all of Raleigh, brother-in-law, Graham Leggett of Greenville; sister and brother-in-law, Marguerite and J.D. Wilson of Greenville, sisters, Ruth Taylor of Lititz, PA, Hilda Moye Grice of Raleigh; grandchildren, Cameron and Cole Moye, Harrison, Bryson, Choloe, and Kaitlyn Grace Farley.
Mr. Moye is preceded in death by his parents, Reverend J.C. Moye, Sr., and Ethel Brooks Moye; sisters, Mary Ida Albritton and Jimmie Moye Leggett.
The family will be receiving friends 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Rd.
To our Daddy and our Gan-Gan, Heaven truly is a richer place because you are there, but our lives will never be the same without you.
We love you so much and cherish all of our memories.

JOANNA J. PROCTOR
FUQUAY-VARINA - Joanna Johnson Proctor died Tuesday at her home. She was 61.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the new Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church at 1100 Judd Road.
A private burial service will follow at the Jones-Johnson family cemetery.
The Proctor family will receive visitors Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Lois Johnson home place on Sunset Lake Road.
Ms. Proctor was born Oct. 6, 1937, daughter of the late William W. and Lois F. Johnson.
A descendant of some of Wake County's earliest settlers, she lived her entire life on property which has been in her family since the 1700's when it was acquired as a land grant. She graduated from Duke University in 1958 with a degree in elementary education.
That same year she married Phillip Proctor, also of Fuquay-Varina.
She taught for several years, resigning to assist her husband in a Proctor family retail business.
In 1963, the two gave up the hardware store, florist and gift shop.
He joined her father's business, Standard Homes Plan Service, and she stayed home to rear three children.
In the 1980's she joined the Standard Homes staff.
Through the years the two managed the Johnson family property, much of which remains in farmland.
Ms. Proctor also followed in her parents' footsteps in becoming an involved supporter of the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church.
Recently she served on the administrative board.
She was a charter member of the Fuquay-Varina Junior Woman's Club begun in 1963 and later moved into the Woman's Club where she was a member for 23 years, holding many offices including that of president.
She was named the club's Woman of the Year in 1977 and in 1991 she was presented the Distinguished Service Award.
In May of this year Ms. Proctor was honored with a lifetime membership in the General Federation of Women's Clubs of North Carolina.
She was a charter member of the Fuquay Springs Questers, an organization interested in historic preservation and antiques, and she was instrumental in enlisting other civic clubs to join the Questers in relocating and restoring the J.D. "Squire" Ballentine school house (circa, 1875).
She also served as a member of the Capital Area Preservation Society and as an organizer of the Wake County Preservation Roundtable.
She was appointed by Wake County Commissioners to represent Southern Wake County on the Wake County Historic Preservation Commission.
Ms. Proctor's family's land off Sunset Lake Road was the first rural district in Wake County to be designated both a national and a Wake County historic site.
Through the years she worked to improve education in Wake County, serving on the local School Advisory Council and on PTA boards and helping organize the Wake County Education Foundation.
She was a lifelong Democrat.
In 1997, the Fuquay-Varina Area Chamber of Commerce named Ms. Proctor its Citizen of the Year.
She is survived by her mother, Lois F. Johnson; her husband, Phillip T. Proctor' daughter, Jennie P. Joiner and husband Chris of Gibsonville; sons, David Proctor and wife Christine, and Ward Proctor, all of Fuquay-Varina; grandsons, Dakota, Chandler and Tristan Proctor and a granddaughter, Cameron Joiner; sisters, Leigh J. Cameron of Chapel Hill and Jerry J. Soechting of Minneapolis, MN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are by Thomas Funeral Home.

KARL B. SHEARIN
ROCKY MOUNT - Karl B. Shearin, 77, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999.
He was born May 18, 1922, in Franklin Co., son of the late Arthur and Hattie Neal Shearin.
Mr. Shearin was an Army veteran of World War II and was a German prisoner of war.
Surviving are his wife, Estelle Turner Shearin; son, Bob Shearin of Rocky Mount; sisters, Hattie Hensley and Virginia Williams, both of Louisburg; granddaughters, Meredith Shearin of Nashville and Tammy Garris and her husband Bob of Rocky Mount; great granddaughter, Katelyn Garris.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at Arlington Baptist Church with Dr. William Tomlinson officiating.
Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night and other times at the home of Tammy and Bob Garris, 800 Garris Andrew Shearin Rd, Rocky Mount.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Rd., Rocky Mt.

HARRIET R. SMITH
ELIZABETH CITY-- Harriet Ransone Smith, 52, of Elizabeth City, died Monday, July 19, 1999, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
She was born March 17, 1947, in Richmond, Va, to Margaret Metcalf Ransone and James Gordon Bennett Ransone, now deceased.
A graduate of Methodist College in Fayetteville, she taught elementary school in Chapel Hill and Fayetteville before moving to Elizabeth City, where she taught kindergarten at Briggs Elementary School in Currituck County.
She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she had taught Sunday School, and was involved in community theater with the Encore Theatre Company.
She is survived by her husband, William Shawn Smith of 203 S. Dyer St; brothers, J.G.B. Ransone, Jr. of Ft. Walton Beach, FL and John A. Ransone of Glenburnie, MD; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, July 26, at 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Elizabeth City.
Memorial donations may be made to diabetes. or cancer research.

HAROLD "PETE" STONE SR.
WENDELL - Harold "Pete" Edward Stone, Sr., 67, of 5240 Watkins Rd., died Tuesday morning July 20, 1999.
Mr. Stone was born in Sanford to the late Ralph Stone and Minnie Spivey Stone of Sanford.
Two grandchildren and one great-grandchild preceded him in death.
Mr. Stone served in the US Army and prior to retirement was a salesman for the Frito Lay Company.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel.
Entombment will follow in the Montlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In addition to his mother, surviving is his wife of 48 years, Nonie Crissman Stone; son, Harold E. Stone, Jr. of Raleigh; daughters, Brenda Snead and husband, Jerry of Youngsville, Linda Leonard, Theresa Debnam and Deborah Lynn Auteri and husband, Donald Wayne, all of Wendell; brother, Frank Stone of Sanford; sister, Flora Knight of Sanford; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh.
Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605.
