EDWIN L. WORTH SR.
RALEIGH - Edwin "Ed" L. Worth Sr., 49, of 312 Merrywood Drive, died Saturday, April 17, 1999. He was the Reading Clerk in the North Carolina House of Representatives in addition to being a realtor.
Ed, the son of Henry Worth Sr. and the late Rosa Mae Worth, was born and raised in Raleigh. He was a 1968 graduate of J.W. Ligon High School. In 1972, he graduated from N.C. A&T State University with a B.S. degree in Art Design.
In addition to his father, he leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Valerie D. Worth; daughter, Chante L. and son, Edwin L. Jr. of the home; brothers, Henry Jr. of Raleigh, Charles of Warren County; sister-in-law, Laurie of Warren County and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 22, at Wake Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. John Wilkins Sr. officiating. Burial takes place at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 7-8:30 p.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church.

ORVID C. "O.C." YOPP SR.
SNEADS FERRY - Orvid C. "O.C." Yopp, Sr., 88, died April 17, 1999 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel, Jacksonville with Revs. Sandy Bain and Richard Wade officiating. Burial, Onslow Memorial Park, Jacksonville.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Cole Yopp and his son, Orvid C. Yopp, Jr.
Surviving: son, Mack Neil Yopp of Sneads Ferry; daughters, Linda Wray and Sandra Duff, both of Holly Ridge, Audrey Downing of Raleigh; brother, W.C. Yopp of Sneads Ferry; sisters, Evelyn Waugh of Jacksonville and Flossie Thomas, both of Hampstead; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 27624, Raleigh, NC 27603, or National Kidney Foundation, 5970 Fairview Rd., Suite 406, Charlotte, NC 28210.

RALPH LEE EVANS
RALEIGH - Ralph Lee Evans, 73, of Raleigh passed away Saturday, May 22, 1999, after a brief illness.

SHAO YUNG PAN
BREA, CA - Mrs. Shao Yung Pan, 92, died Monday morning on May 17, 1999. Mrs. Pan was born in Zhejian, China on November 21, 1906. She married the late Maj. General S.C. Pan of the Nationalist Chinese Army in April 1929. Mrs. Pan moved to Durham, NC in 1978 and lived with her eldest daughter the late Mrs. Lily P. Wang until 1983. She later moved to Brea, CA and lived with the youngest daughter. Mrs. Heidy Y. Werts.
Mrs. Pan was remembered by her family and friends as a kind, friendly, and generous lady. She became a Christian in 1979.
Mrs. Pan is survived by her daughters, Anna M.H. Wu and husband, Kenneth of Houston, TX; Heidy Y. Werts and husband, Donald of Brea, CA; son, Robert F. Pan and wife, Jane of Apex, NC; nephew, H.C. Pan and his wife, Suyuan of Taipei, Taiwan; seven grandchildren.

MARCEIL SHURLING PENLAND
CARY - Marcie S. Penland, 64, died Saturday May 22, 1999, at Sunrise of Raleigh, her home for the past three years.
Marcie is survived by her daughter, Betsy L. Seymour and her husband Dr. Rob Seymour; two grandchildren, Leigh and Bo Seymour; brother, Ray Shurling of Bracy, Virginia; and two nieces and one nephew.
Preceding her in death were her father and mother, Raymond and Rhoda Shurling and a brother, Dr. James O. Shurling, Oxford, N.C.
Marcie's kind and loving goodness was felt by all who knew her in her personal life and her career as a psychiatric nurse. She worked at Broughton Hospital in Morganton, N.C., John Umstead Hospital in Butner, N.C. and UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill.
A graveside service will be held Monday May 24, at 2 p.m. at Raleigh Memorial Park in Raleigh, conducted by Dr. Robert E. Seymour.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary.
Memorial contributions may be made in Marcie's name to Hospice of Wake Co. or The American Lung Association.

LILLIAN M. BARTHOLOMEW
RALEIGH - Lillian Mae Bartholomew, 96 of Mayview Convalescent Center died Thursday.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at New Hope Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Altom and Dr. Jack Coffey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews from New York and the Raleigh area and special friends, Billie Lou and Ben Godwin of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road (876-6900) from 7-8:30 p.m. on Sunday.

GEORGE R. CAMPBELL
MOREHEAD CITY - George Robert (Capt. Bob) Campbell, 68, of Morehead City, died Friday, May 21st at Carteret General Hospital.
His funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, at First Baptist Church with Dr. J. Randall Sherron and Rev. Tom Lamkin officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. Mr. Campbell was the oldest son of Harvey and Myrtle Campbell of Durham, now deceased. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a long-time broadcaster in radio and TV with a career that expanded over 40 years. He served in the administration of Gov. James Holshouser and Gov. Jim Martin. He was best known for his daily radio (Capt. Bob's Fishing show) report on the network of radio stations throughout N.C.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife, Jerry Guthrie Campbell; daughter, Sharon Shrantz and her husband, Doug of Rogers, Arkansas; son, Steve Campbell and his wife, Trina of Durham; daughter, Jamie Campbell of Clinton; brother, James Campbell and his wife Judy of Durham; two stepdaughters, Deborah Worley and husband, Larry of Ridgeville, Ohio, Brenda Huffman and husband Max of Shelbyville, Indiana; eight step-grandchildren, Kenny and Doug Schrantz, Corey Vickers, Mine, Molly and Maren Worley, and Kyle and Karly Huffman.
Flowers are welcomed or memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Morehead City, NC.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m., Monday, May 24, 1999 at Munden Funeral Home.

CAROL M. CHAMBERLAIN
TIPP CITY, OH - Carol Margaret Chamberlain, 48, died May 13 following an extended illness. Born Nov. 27, 1950 in Urbana, OH. She received her BS in education from Miami Univ. and her MA in history from Wright State Univ. A former museum director and educator, she was most recently the Adult and Special Programs Coordinator at the North Carolina Museum of History. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Cary. Preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth, in 1985.
She is survived by her father, O. Jesse and stepmother, Ronnie Chamberlain of Tipp City, OH; sisters, Lauren (Mrs. Donald) Czehut, Crosswicks, NJ and Janet Chamberlain, Indianapolis, IN; brother, Jesse, Herndon, VA.
Funeral services were held in Tipp City, OH, where she was buried.
Contributions may be made to the North Carolina Museum of History, 5 East Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC 27601-1011, and designated for the Carol Margaret Chamberlain Memorial Fund.

HARRY L. ELLERBE JR.
JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. - Harry L. Ellerbe Jr., of Johns Island, S.C., husband of Martha Goode Ellerbe died the morning of May 22, 1999 at his residence.
Memorial services will be held today (Sunday), May 23, 1999 in Seacoast Christian Community Church, Mount Pleasant, S.C. at three o'clock.
Burial which is private will be directed by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Funeral Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston, S.C. 29401.
Mr. Ellerbe was born September 23, 1936 in Spartanburg, S.C. a son of Harry L. Ellerbe and Mary Macomson Ellerbe.
He was a sales representative for Universal Furniture Company. Mr. Ellerbe was a graduate of University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and a member of the Alumi Association.
He attended Seacoast Christian Community Church, Mt. Pleas., S.C.
Mr. Ellerbe is survived by his wife, Martha Goode Ellerbe of Johns Island, S.C. A daughter, Rhett E. Holladay of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Harry L. Ellerbe III and David H. Ellerbe both of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Nancy E. Page of Spartanburg, S.C.
Memorials may be made to Seacoast Christian Community Church, 750 Longpoint Road, Mt. Pleasant, S.C. 29464 or Hospice of Charleston, 3896 Leeds Ave., North Charleston, S.C. 29405.

ESTON J. GARNER
BUFORD, GA - Eston Joseph Garner, 89, died in Snellville, GA, May 18, 1999 a victim of a massive stroke. Member of First Baptist Church, Buford.
Preceded in death by parents; one brother; four sisters.
Survived by sister, Edith McHugh of Phoenix City, AL; brother, Gladston Garner of Raleigh, NC; several nieces and nephews including Don Garner of Talbott, TN, Dan Garner of Wake Forest, NC, Tim Garner of Raleigh, NC.
Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 1999 in Buford, GA. with Rev. Stephen Wood and Don Garner officiating.
Memorials to: Building Fund, First Baptist Church, 4550 Hamilton Mill Rd., Buford, GA 30518.

JEAN S. GRANGER
DEC. 9, 1928-MAY 19, 1999
CHAPEL HILL - Jean S. Granger, 70, passed on, at Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, NC. Mrs. Granger grew up in Chevy Chase, MD, made her home in Larchmont, NY for 31 years, before retiring to NC in 1991. She earned an AA in Merchandising from VA Commonwealth U. and was a secretary for the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, International Trade European Division. She was a Girl Scout Leader, worked with the Jr. Choir of St. John's Episcopal Church, participated in a variety of educational pursuits and was an active member of the Larchmont Garden Club, including holding the office of Treasurer.
Surviving: her husband of 46 years, Richard A. Granger; daughters, Catherine G. Glover, Stacy G. Savage of Chapel Hill, NC. She was known by "Mama Jean" and "Meema" to many who loved her, including eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions are made to the Larchmont Garden Club, c/o Mrs. Frank Lyons, 3 Addee Cr., Larchmont, NY 10538.

JOHNNIE HARRIS JR.
RALEIGH - Johnnie Harris Jr., of 2520 Lot 221 Garner Road, died Thursday. Funeral services Monday 1 p.m. at Lea Funeral Home. Burial, Carolina Biblical Gardens.
Surviving: spouse, Clementine Harris of the home; daughters, Carol McClaston of Raleigh and Pamela Harris of Raleigh; sons, Jason Harris of Raleigh; sisters, Dorothy Jenkins, Carolyn Fowler, Mattie Lucas, Syble Baker, Shirley Wells all of Raleigh and Eunice Haywood of Wake Forest; brothers, Joel Harris and Jule C. Harris both of Raleigh and Orvid Harris of Raleigh; three grandchildren.
Visitation, from 12:30-1 p.m. Monday at Lea Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at 2520 Lot 221 Garner Road.

LUNA FLEMING HAYES
RALEIGH - Luna Fleming Hayes, 83, of 2018-A Smallwood Drive, died on May 21, 1999 at Rex Convalescent Center. She was the daughter of the late Alvin L. and Eula Wilson Fleming of Norlina. She was a longtime resident of Cameron Village along with her little dog "Cricket".
She is survived by daughter, Barbara Hayes Upchurch (Stuart, Sr.) of Raleigh; son, Al (Patty) Hayes of Dunnville, VA; four grandsons, Tony, Mike and Jeff Zehia, and Chris Hayes all of Raleigh; one granddaughter, Allison Hayes of Dunnsville, VA; three great-granddaughters, Barbara, Christina, and Kayla Zehia, all of Raleigh.
A private memorial service will be held at Warren-Dale Cemetery Norlina, at a later date. Remembrances may be made to the Wake County SPCA, 219-B Garner Business Ct., Garner, N.C. 27529.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.

ELEANOR G. HINTON
GATESVILLE - Eleanor Glenn Hinton, 76, of the 100 block of East Maple St., died Friday, May 21, 1999.
Mrs. Hinton was born July 17, 1922 in Louisburg, NC. The daughter of the late John Melvin and Mrs. Camilla Yarborough Glenn, she was a graduate of UNC-G (Women's College). She formerly worked as a dietician at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, VA and later retired from the Gates County Department of Social Services.
Mrs. Hinton lived her entire life in Gatesville, where she was a member of the Gatesville Woman's Club, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, and a dedicated member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
Surviving are her husband, William Jones Hinton; two sons, Williams Jones Hinton, Jr. his wife, Pat and their children, Camilla and Zoe of Louisburg, NC; and Dr. Richard Yarborough Hinton, his wife, Dr. Endrika Hinton and their children, Ella, Webb, Ada, and Wiatt of Baltimore, MD. Also surviving are her daughter-in-law, Jan Hall of Raleigh, NC and her children, Seth Hall and Ashley and Bill McCarthy; her brother, John M. Glenn and his wife, Waynette of Franklin, NC; first cousins, Edith and Keith Bridger of Gatesville and Mary Brooks Zuccerelli of Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Hinton was preceded in death by his first husband, Roy Burton Hall and a son, Roy Burton Hall, Jr.
Eleanor's life of service will continue to be an inspiration to her family, her friends, and the Town of Gatesville.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Webster Simons, Jr. Burial will follow in the Gatesville Cemetery. Her request was to lie in state at the home of her late mother, 404 High St., Gatesville. Friends may join the family there Sunday from 6-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gates County Rescue Squad, Gatesville, NC 27938 or to Louisburg College, 501 N. Main St., Louisburg, NC 27549.
Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
