MARVIN TEMPLETON JONES
AUG. 9, 1914 - JUNE 1, 1999
GARNER - Marvin Templeton Jones, 85, of 203 Avery St., died Tuesday at home. He was a retired salesman with G.S. Tucker Furniture Co. and was a deacon and trustee at Carolina Pines Baptist Church.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday at Carolina Pines Baptist Church, 2655 S. Saunders St, Raleigh, NC. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Mary Elizabeth Jones; daughter, Donna Faye Pearce and her husband, Kirby Lane of Huntsville, AL; sister, Louise Wilkins of Raleigh; several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, N.C. 27605.

ALFRED P. MOORE
NEW BERN - Alfred P. Moore, 77, of New Bern, NC, died Tuesday. Mr. Moore was formerly from Grundy, VA and Naples, FL. He left school in the ninth grade to help his parents during the Depression. He worked in the Appalachia coal mine fields before enlisting in the Marine Corps in the early days of WWII. He was wounded in the Pacific. He returned to Grundy in 1946 where he began a long career in the coal mining business. Eventually he became the owner of several coal mine companies and a partner in the United Company. He was a member of the Grundy Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Grundy, VA. He donated the United Way building in New Bern, NC in memory of his son, Dr. Rick A. Moore. He was a benefactor to the University of Virginia Medical School. Mr. Moore was predeceased by his wife, Irene Morefield Moore and his son, Dr. Rick A. Moore.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Greenleaf Memorial Park, Lakeside Chapel, with Reverend Walton Pettit officiating.
He is survived by one daughter. Beverly Eaves Perdue of New Bern, NC; two brothers: Jack R. Moore and Kenneth Bud Moore both of Toccoa, GA; two sisters, Louise Moore Lilley of Naples, FL and June Moore Hess of Abington, VA; five grandchildren, Mary Katherine Moore Hill, Marlee Moore Guerra, Rick Alfred Moore, Garrett Raymond Perdue, and John Emmett Warfield Perdue; and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Craven Regional Medical Center Foundation in Memory of Alfred P. Moore, 2000 Neuse Blvd., New Bern, NC 28560.

MAMIE BETHEA POLLOCK
WARSAW - Mamie Bethea Pollock, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at Padgett Family Care Home of Warsaw.
Born August 29, 1912 to the late William Wally Bethea and Callie Hayes Bethea of Dillon, SC, Mrs. Pollock was the widow of the late George A. Pollock of Warsaw.
A longtime resident of Warsaw, Mrs. Pollock came to this area from Dillon, SC, in 1938. She was well known as the manager of Macks Five and Dime store, which she retired from in 1976 after 40 years of service. Mrs. Pollock was a past board member of the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Warsaw Presbyterian Church.
Surviving Mrs. Pollock are four nephews, Larry Bethea, Richard Bethea and Jerry Whitaker, all of Virginia, Billy Whitaker of South Carolina; one niece, Jari Bethea Hopper of South Carolina.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 1999 at Warsaw Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens of Warsaw.
Family and friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 4, 1999 at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw.

MARTIN RIVERA HERNANDEZ
JAN. 30, 1975-MAY 30, 1999
FUQUAY-VARINA - Martin Rivera Hernandez, 24, a brick mason, died Sunday. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Sugg Funeral Chapel. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Surviving: father, Jesus Rivera Gonzalez, mother, Juana Hernandez de Rivera; brothers, Jesus Rivera Hernandez, Valente Rivera Hernandez, Ricardo Rivera Hernandez, Raymondo Rivera Hernandez, Gilberto Rivera Hernandez, Demetrio Rivera Hernandez; sisters, Antonia Rivera Hernandez, Lucrecia Rivera Hernandez, Juana Rivera Hernandez, Eva Rivera Hernandez, Edilia Rivera Hernandez, Maribel Rivera Hernandez.
Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Sugg Funeral Home.

EDUARDO RIVERA SANCHEZ
OCT. 28, 1980 - MAY 30, 1999
FUQUAY-VARINA - Eduardo Rivera Sanchez, 18, a brick mason, died Sunday.
Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Sugg Funeral Chapel. Burial, Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Surviving: father, Valente Rivera Hernandez; mother, Modesta Sanchez Franco; brothers Jose Manuel Rivera Sanchez and Urias Rivera Sanchez; sisters, Dorali Rivera Sanchez and Damaris Rivera Sanchez.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Sugg Funeral Home.

HILDEGARD KELLER ROBINSON
KNIGHTDALE - Hildegard Linda Keller Robinson, 78, of 1540 Hodge Road, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 1999. She was born July 21, 1920 in Worms, Germany and was preceded in death by her loving husband, Billy Joe Robinson on March 7, 1995. Memorial graveside service 11 a.m. Friday, June 4, 1999 at Raleigh National Cemetery.
Surviving: sons, Bruce C. Robinson and his wife, Lisa of Knightdale, Alan W. Robinson and his wife, Scherri of Raleigh; grandchildren, AMN Alan Jason Robinson, Allison Danielle Robinson.

MONIQUE NICOLE SINGLETON
RALEIGH - Monique Nicole Singleton, of 6145 Apt. H. St. Giles Street, died Monday. Funeral 11 a.m. Friday at Upper Room COGIC. Burial, Cookshill Cemetery, Waltersboro, SC.
Surviving: mother, Brenda Singleton of the home; sister, Tionna Singleton of the home; maternal grandmother, Mary Singleton of New York.

KATHRYN NICKS YOKLEY
RALEIGH - Kathryn Nicks Yokley died peacefully at her home Wednesday, June 2, 1999, after an extended illness. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee April 6, 1913, the daughter of the late Boyd Raymond and Artye Cook Nicks. After the death of her husband John William Yokley in 1980, she moved to Raleigh, N.C. in 1987.
She is survived by her only child, Nickye Yokley Venters, son-in-law Dr. George Cole Venters, and two grandchildren Kathryn Leigh Venters and George Cole Venters, Jr., all of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street, 828-4311.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from Edenton Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 12 noon Saturday, June 5, 1999 in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Nashville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edenton Street United Methodist Church Music Fund, 228 W. Edenton Street, Raleigh, N.C. 27603.

CAROL ELAINE BOND
RALEIGH - Carol Elaine Bond, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 1999 at Rex Hospital. Ms. Bond was employed by the city of Raleigh in the Public Utilities Department as the Environmental Coordinator. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 1999 at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
Surviving: daughters, Lisa Bond, Cheryl Bond, Cathy Bond and Karen Bond, all of Raleigh.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 12, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, N.C. 27545.

ROBERT E. BUTLER
MARCH 23, 1919 - APRIL 7, 1999
RALEIGH - Robert E. Butler, 80, was a retired machinist with Dillon Supply for 50 years.
Mr. Butler was a body donor to Duke Medical Center for medical research.
The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
Memorial service 2 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel.
Surviving: sons, Robert E. Butler Jr. of Knightdale, Wert Butler of Raleigh; granddaughters, Alicia Butler of Knightdale, Tina Currin of South Carolina; three great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Butler of Norfolk, Va; sister, Christine Korford of Roy Utah.

JAMES RAY CURRIE
CARY - James Ray Currie age 52 of 1230 Old Apex Rd., Cary, NC died Friday, April 9, 1999 at Rex Hospital. He was a native of Chatham Co. and a former member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. And a past president of the Cary Optimist Club. Mr. Currie was owner of Deadline Express Inc. and formerly of Currie's Metal Refinishing. He was a top salesman for 16 years with Ecolabs Inc. in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 12, 1999 at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church officiating will be Rev. Craig Cummings and Dr. Curtis Finch. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Currie was preceded in death by his mother Odell Currie in 1997.
Survivors are: his wife, Brenda Price Currie of the home; a son, Steven Ray Currie and Sharon Blackwell of Greensboro, NC; a daughter, Stephanie Ruth Currie and Charles Haynes Jr. of Apex, NC; his father William Calvin Currie of Apex, NC; a brother William Paul Currie and wife Debbie of Durham, NC; a sister Patricia Glover and husband Jimmy of Coats, NC; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Currie of Durham, NC; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, April 11, 1999 from 7-9 p.m. at Apex Funeral Home, 511 West Williams St. (Hwy. 55) Apex, NC and other times at the home of William Calvin Currie, 5410 Hwy. 751, Apex, NC. Flowers are welcome.

JOSEPH ELWOOD EDWARDS SR.
WILMINGTON - Joseph E. Edwards Sr 74 of 317 Pine Grove Drive, Wilmington, NC died Friday, April 9, 1999 at Mariner Health Care of Wilmington.
Mr. Edwards was born in Bladen Co. the son of the late Joseph and Mary Todd Edwards.
Joseph was a long time member of the Temple Baptist Church, American Legion Post 10, and member of the Barbers Association.
Surviving Mr. Edwards are his loving wife Dorothy Caudill Edwards of the home; a son Joseph Edwards Jr. and wife Phyllis of Dunn, NC; a daughter Carolyn Hardin and husband Eugene of Spindale, NC; a brother Edward McRae and wife Audrey; four sisters Annie Ruth Ashley and husband Jerry, Lois Shaw all from Atlanta, GA, Betty Shaw and husband George from Elizabethtown, NC and Jettie Ward of Fayetteville, NC. Also surviving are four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, April 12, 1999, at the Temple Baptist Church, 18th and Market Street, Wilmington, NC, with Reverend Jimmy Rogers and Bill McNeill officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Lewis Cemetery, Bladenboro, NC.
The family will receive friends, Sunday, April 11, 1999 between the hours of 5-7 p.m. at the Coble Ward Smith Funeral Service Oleander Chapel.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nancy Bradshaw Memorial Scholarship Fund, at the Temple Baptist Church.

GOLDIE H. GRIFFIN
RALEIGH - Goldie Hagwood Griffin, 83 of 620 Rose Lane died today at Wake Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband J. Thomas Hagwood, her son, William Proctor Hagwood and a daughter Phyllis Powell.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband Oliver Griffin of Valdese; two daughters, Mary H. Harrington and her husband Troy of Raleigh, Kathy H. Price and her husband Billy of Garner; son, James C. Hagwood of Raleigh; three sisters, Virginia Southworth of Charlotte, Donnie Ray of Zebulon, Kathryn Sherron of Zebulon; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

GORDON A. JOYNER
GOLDSBORO - Mr. Gordon Allen Joyner, 67, of 215 Rab Trail, died Friday at his home. A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Albert Allen Joyner and Sula Brantham Joyner. Mr. Joyner established J & L Tractor Company on April 20, 1967 and served as owner/president until his retirement in November, 1997. He was a member of the Goldsboro Elks Lodge B.P.O.E.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.B. Helms and Rev. Jimmy Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Joyner; daughters, Tracy J. Howell of Goldsboro, Robin M. Capps of Garner, Myra Westbrook of Goldsboro; son, Dennis Mitchell of Tennessee; four grandchildren, Carter Pressnell, Lucas Mitchell, Shelby Mitchell and Baylee Mitchell; two brothers, Jeff W. Joyner of Rockingham and E. Carroll Joyner of Raleigh.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Delton Ray Joyner.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
