RALEIGH - Paul M. Adams, 61, of 8404 Old Baucom Road, died Thursday. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Tippett's Chapel Church with burial to follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. Rev. David Trogdon officiating. Arrangements by McLaurin Funeral Home.
He is survived by wife, Shirley W. Adams of Raleigh; stepdaughter, Angela Renee Flynn of Willow Spring; stepson, Christopher Brian Kimsey of Raleigh; brother, Jimmy C. Adams of Raleigh; half sisters, Lucy Sorrell and Patti Ferrell, both of Durham; half brothers, D.M. Adams Jr. and Dalton Adams, both of Raleigh; grandson, Dylan Allen Flynn of Willow Spring; niece, Debra Wiggs of Raleigh.
Mr. Adams was owner and operator of Paul Adams Hauling in Raleigh.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association, 1323 Capitol Blvd., Raleigh, N.C. or Hospice of Wake County, 4513 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, N.C.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

HETTER MAE SCOTT BYRD
RALEIGH - Hetter Mae Scott Byrd, 94, died April 15, 1999 at Rex Hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of Chatham County in the Farrington Community.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, April 18, 1999 in the Bell's Baptist Church on Farrington Road in Chatham County, officiating will be Rev. Rick Washington. Burial will in the Martha's Chapel Christian Church Cemetery on HWY. 751 in Chatham County.
Survivors are: one son, James Frank Scott and wife, Nancy of Raleigh, preceded in death by a son, O.L. Scott Jr.; two granddaughters, Valerie Scott Booker of Sutherlin, Va. and Melissa Scott Black of Raleigh; two stepdaughters, Mary Goodmanson of Sun City, Fla., and Grace Scott Poe of Durham; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mabel Wood and Clara Belle Page of Durham, Lucille Spence of Florida.
She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Glenn Jenkins, Hubert Jenkins, Grayson Jenkins, Russell Jenkins, Eugene Jenkins and Curtis Lee Jenkins.
The family will receive friends following the Grave services at Martha's Chapel Christian Church Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Apex Funeral Home, 511 West Williams St. (Hwy 55), Apex, NC.

RUBY FAYE NORMAN CLINE
WILMINGTON - Mrs. Ruby Faye Norman Cline, 86, widow of William Harvey Cline, died Thursday evening, April 15, 1999, at Brunswick Cove Nursing Center. Mrs. Cline was born in Whittier, NC, August 19, 1912, the daughter of the late Robert and Susan Addie Cooper Norman. She was a member of the Roseboro United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her two daughters, Norma Jean Williams Fleming and husband James M. of Bolivia and Janet Carol Murray and husband Norman Ray of Wilmington; two grandsons, Willie Edward Williams Jr., Ricky Cline Williams and a great-grand-daughter, Shelby Lynn Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 1999 at the Roseboro United Methodist Church by the Reverend Richard Blankenhorn with a visitation to be held at the Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro 7-9 p.m. today.
Interment services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 19, 1999 at the St. Stephens Lutheran Church Cemetery, Gold Hill, NC. Mrs. Cline will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the graveside service.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 37565 or to the Roseboro United Methodist Church, Organ Fund, Roseboro, NC 28382.

EMILY HOUSE COLLINS
JUNE 22, 1914 - APRIL 15, 1999
GARNER - Emily House Collins, 84, of 1509 Creech Road, died Thursday. Funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. today at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving: daughter, Joyce C. Piper of Raleigh; son, Fred A. Collins, Jr. and his wife, Vivian of Cary; sister, Cozie Embry of East Point, GA; grandchildren, Michael Lane Collins of MD, Pam Piper Kirby of CA, Dane Wesley Piper of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Collins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred A. Collins, Sr.

JOYCE COOPER
RALEIGH - Joyce Cooper, 91, a native of Raleigh, NC, daughter of the late William A. and Lula Joyce Cooper, died Thursday, April 15, 1999. She graduated from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, received a Masters Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an Ed.D degree from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Following several years of teaching young children in the public schools of Wake Co., she moved to Washington State Department of Education where she served as Assistant Superintendent of Public Instruction for several years. In 1957 she came to the University of Florida as a professor in the Department of Elementary Education where she worked until her retirement. During her tenure there, she supervised student teachers, taught courses in early childhood education, conducted three NDEA Institutes for working with disadvantaged young children, and participated in an educational project in Korea.
In Gainesville, FL, she was a member of the University United Methodist Church and of the Gainesville Soroptomist International Service Club. Professionally she was an active member of the Association of Childhood Education International and of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, both at national and local levels.
Survivors include nephews Robert F. Bailey and James W. Bailey of Durham, NC, and Thomas D. Cooper, Jr. of Mobile, Alabama, and nieces, Joyce Evans of Lewisville, NC, and Christopher Cooper Huggins of Auburn, AL.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Nina C. Phelps, Lula D. Cooper and Carrie C. Bailey, and two brothers, Thomas D. Cooper and William A. Cooper, Jr.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

SUE CHEROTI COTTEN
SCOTLAND NECK - Sue Cheroti Cotten, 83, of Hallandale, FL, formerly of Scotland Neck, NC, died April 14, 1999.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck.
Mrs. Cotten is survived by her daughter, Carol Cotten Smith of Marietta, GA; a brother, John Cheroti of Hallandale, FL; and a granddaughter, Lauren Smith of Marietta, GA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Walter Cotten.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, April 17, at Letchworth Funeral Home.
Arrangements were handled by Letchworth Funeral Home of Scotland Neck.

CLEVELAND WAYNE DeLOACH
BLACKSHEAR, GA - Cleveland Wayne DeLoach, 52, passed away late Wednesday afternoon in a Jacksonville Hospital after a long illness. A native and long time residence of Pierce Co. He had graduated from Blackshear High School and the Georgia military College in Milledgeville. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietname War and had lived for many Years in North Carolina. He was General Manager and Owner of North Raleigh Motor Co. of Raleigh, NC. He had returned to Blackshear several months when ill health forced his retirement. He was a member of the Blackshear First Baptist Church and was the son of the late William "W.T." DeLoach.
Survivors: wife, Nancy Dale DeLoach; daughter, Karen Allene DeLoach of Raleigh; sons, David Wayne ans wife, Cindy DeLoach of Rocky Mount, NC, Ryan Allen DeLoach of Raleigh, NC; mother, Yvonne J. DeLoach of Blackshear; sisters, Mary Ellen Clauss of Nottingham England, Glynda Brinson of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; brothers, William Evan whose late wife was Chris of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Wendell and wife, Beverly DeLoach of Blackshear; there are several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held in the Dixon-Bowen-Taylor chapel, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Officiating will be the Dr. Bill Young, Rev. David Reed, and Bill Wall.
The family is receiving friends at the home of his mother at 510 Hendry St. in Blackshear.
Memorials may be made to the Southeast Cancer unit, 401 Pendleton St., Waycross, GA.
Dixon-Bowen-Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MARY L. DILL
MOREHEAD CITY - Mrs. Mary Leigh Dill, 83, died Thursday at Harborview Health Care Center. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Milton Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Bay View Cemetery with the Rev. Matthew E. Stockard rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Beaufort officiating.
Surviving: daughter, Susan D. Jones of Clemmons; son, George L. Dill of Morehead City; brother, Leigh Sheep of Elizabeth City; five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Brooks Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 900 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557 or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 215 Ann Street, Beaufort, NC 28516.

CATHERINE M. ERNY
JACKSONVILLE - Catherine M. Erny, 68, Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Jacksonville with Father Dennis Hackett officiating. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Mrs. Erny, a native of Pittsburgh, was the daughter of the late Robert H. McCrae and Catherine Bleinchner McCrae.
She is survived by her husband, Donald R. Erny of the home; son, and daughter-in-law, Donald R. and Kim Erny Jr. of Jacksonville; son, Dennis R. Erny of Chapel Hill; son, David R. Erny of Florida; son, Darrell R. Erny of Surf City; daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Rudy Hines of Fuquay-Varina; daughter, Cathy M. Erny of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Steven, Justin, Caroline and Kevin; sisters, Mildred Kline and Alice Peterson, both of Pittsburgh, Jean Hoffman of California; brother, Robert McCrae Jr. of Kentucky.
There will be a rosary service at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6-9 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

She was preceded in death by her husband William James Godwin.
Surviving: daughters, Ruth Kellum of Raleigh, Evelyn Cavenaugh of Richlands, Ann Aman of Dunn, Linda Kay Atkins of Carthage; sons, Roy Lee Godwin of Raleigh, George Godwin of Maple Hill; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

MARIE M. KILBURN
MAY 23, 1944 - APRIL 16, 1999
KNIGHTDALE - Marie Morgan Kilburn, 54, of 2429 Hodge Rd., died Friday at her home.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Greenmount Cemetery in Wendell.
She was predeceased by her father, Jack Morgan.
Surviving husband, Jim Kilburn; daughter, Penny McLamb of Bailey; mother, Elizabeth Morgan of Wendell; sisters, Carolyn Callicutt of Troy, Barbara Jones and Patsy Coates, both of Wendell, Jackie Tapp of Bailey; brothers, Ronnie Morgan of Oxford, Richard Morgan of Zebulon and Randy Morgan of Wendell; two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home; other times at the home of Fred and Patsy Coats, 1243 Maggie Way, Wendell.

HOLLY SPRINGS - Christopher J. Lowe, 17, of 3909 McClain Street, died Wednesday. Funeral 12 noon Sunday at Fuquay High School Gymnasium, Fuquay-Varina. Burial in the Prince Cemetery.

ELSIE BARKER MAXWELL
RALEIGH - Mrs. Elsie Barker Maxwell of Raleigh, died Friday, April 16, 1999.
Born in Trenton, N.C., she was the daughter of Ebb and Nina Barker of New Bern.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, H.L. (Mac) Maxwell.
She received her B.A. in Elementary Education from East Carolina University. She was a retired teacher. She was a member of B.P.O. Does #168, associated with Raleigh Elks Lodge #735. Mrs. Maxwell was a member of Highland United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held Saturday 7 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street.
The family will receive friends following the service.
A graveside service will be held Sunday 2 p.m. at Raleigh Memorial Park.
Mrs. Maxwell is survived by her sister, Mary Elizabeth Jones of Horse Shoe; niece, Anne Jones Puryear of Macon, Ga; nephew, Luther Jones of Flat Rock; stepson, Ron Maxwell of Raleigh; grandchildren, Shannon and Brandon Maxwell.
