ELVA TRUSTY BRANN
APEX - Elva Trusty Brann, 85, of Marietta, GA, formerly of Apex, NC, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999 in the Specialty Care, Marietta, GA.
Mr. Brann was born in Henderson, KY on January 20, 1914, the son of the late Guy Dickson and Blanche Trusty Brann. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Solomon Brann.
Surviving are two sons, Richard H. Brann of Bracey, VA and Ronald K. McGregor of Pana, IL; one daughter, Gail B. Jennings of Marietta, GA; one brother, Strother Brann of Indianapolis, IN; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 1999 in the Mitchell Funeral Home Glenwood Ave. Chapel by Rev. J. P. Johnson. Interment will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The V Foundation, 1201 Walnut St., 2nd Floor, Cary, NC 27511.

JOEL S. BULLOCK
ZEBULON - Joel Stanley Bullock, 56, died Wednesday. Joel was preceded in death by his parents Willie L. and Dixie Brantley Bullock, and his brother Eddie Bullock. Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, Massey Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Zebulon Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Surviving; wife, Brenda M. Bullock of the home; son, Greg Bullock of Charlotte; sister, Gloria Lane of Raleigh; brother, Gilbert Bullock of Zebulon.
The family will receive friends Friday evening 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

IRMA CLARKSTON
MARCH 5, 1907 - APRIL 22, 1999
GARNER - Irma Davis Clarkston, 92, of 905 Seventh Ave., died Thursday, April 22, 1999. She was born March 5, 1907 in Lee County, VA, the youngest daughter of Samuel Henry and Annis Cox Davis. She was the wife of the late Walker Clarkston and a life long resident of the Seminary Community until she moved to Garner, NC after the death of her husband. She was a life time member of the Seminary United Methodist Church. Her two sisters, Mabel Davis Hill and Katherine Davis predeceased her.
Her survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and Carson Carmichael Jr. of Garner, NC Barbara and Frank P. Molnar Jr. of Franklin, TN, Elizabeth "Libby" and Thomas M. Godbold of Franklin, TN; granddaughter, Jacqueline M. Glover and her husband, Byron of Brentwood, TN; three grandsons, Carson Carmichael, III and his wife, Deborah of Raleigh, NC Frank P. Molnar, III, and his wife, Lana of Franklin, TN, Thomas M. Godbold, Jr. and his wife, Erin of Franklin, TN; three great-grandsons, Neil and Davis Carmichael of Raleigh, NC,
Bryon Glover, Jr. of Brentwood, TN; niece Peggy Hill Good of Kinsport, TN; several other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner, NC and at Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, VA Sunday 7-9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in the Holding Funeral Home Chapel and burial will follow in Glencoe Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that memorial contributions may be given to Seminary United Methodist Church, c/o Harry Lee Slemp, Rt. 2, Box 371, Big Stone Gap, VA, 24219 or to the American Cancer Society, Wake Co. Unit, 620 West Morgan Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.

DONALD ELLSWORTH CURTIS
RALEIGH - Donald Ellsworth Curtis, 75, of Raleigh, died Thursday, April 22, 1999.
Mr. Curtis was a retired U.S. Navy Captain with 40 years of service. He also was the C.O. of the Naval Reserves in Raleigh. He served as a pilot and navigator in the European and Pacific Theaters in World War II. He was awarded the Air Medal, five gold stars in lieu of Air Medals, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and three Naval Commendations. He was also the Chief of Law Enforcement with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. Before entering the Navy he attended Mars Hill College and N.C. State University, where he majored in Chemical Engineering.
A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 1999 at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the service.
Surviving are: his wife, Jo Curtis and son, William John Pearce, III of the home; daughters, Mary Curtis Pearce and husband Billy of Orangeburg, SC and Doris "Cookie" Curtis of Charlotte; grandchildren, Justin Pearce of Raleigh and Matthew Pearce of Orangeburg, SC, Cara Nicole Carnes and Mary Catherine Carnes of Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 620 West Morgan Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.

NANCY G. DIANISH
MATTHEWS - Nancy Gillikin Rawls Thigpen Dianish, 88, of Matthews, formerly of Raleigh and Atlantic Beach, died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, Beaufort, with the Rev. Larry Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New Bern.
Surviving: husband, Joseph J. Dianish of Matthews; son, Bill Rawls and wife, Miriam of Raleigh, Tracey Griffith and husband Raymond of Wadesboro; Todd Rawls and Elizabeth Rawls of Raleigh; three great-grandchildren, Ray, Michael and Jonathan Griffith of Wadesboro.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Shriner's Crippled Children's Fund, P.O. Box 490, New Bern, NC 28560.

FREMONT - Bert S. Hayes, 80, retired welding supply salesman/owner, died Wednesday. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, Elmwood Cemetery, Old Section.
Surviving: wife, Kirk Perry Hayes; daughter, Suzanne Hayes of Raleigh; sons, Bill Hayes of the home, Bert S. Hayes, Jr. of New Bern; two granddaughters.
The family will be at Shackleford Funeral Service 7-8 p.m. Friday.

PHILIP ROSS HEDRICK
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Philip Ross Hedrick, 79, of Charlotte, NC, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 1999 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 101 Colville Road, with The Reverend Andrew M. Smith and The Reverend Dr. Howard Chadwick officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Harry & Bryant Chapel, 500 Providence Road.
Mr. Hedrick was born May 5, 1919 in Statesville, North Carolina, the son of Horace E. and Sarah Elizabeth Morrow Hedrick. He attended Scotts Schools and graduated from Scotts High School. Mr. Hedrick graduated from Erskine College in 1942 having played varsity baseball and basketball. He later signed a professional contract and played in the Chicago White Sox organization.
Upon graduation from Erskine College, Mr. Hedrick entered the military as a naval aviation cadet. He graduated from Pensacola Air Station flight training in June 1943 and was commissioned a 2nd. Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Hedrick served two years as a dive bomber and fighter pilot in the South Pacific and China. He was discharged from the Marines in 1946 with the rank of Captain. Mr. Hedrick was Battalion Commander of the 2nd. Battalion of the 1st. Marine Air Wing and received two Air Medal Awards.
Mr. Hedrick graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Law School in 1950 and was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1950. Following law school he was claims counselto American Mutual Insurance Company until 1956 when he organized his own law firm, now called Hedrick, Eatmon, Gardner & Kincheloe. Mr. Hedrick was a well known litigator and retired from the practice of law after 43 years of practice.
Mr. Hedrick was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a teacher, deacon, elder, trustee and clerk of the Session. He had also served as a trustee of the Mecklenburg Presbytery.
Mr. Hedrick was past president of Myers Park Civitan Club and had served as Judge Advocate of the North Carolina District of Civitan International. He was past President of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Association of Civic Clubs.
Mr. Hedrick coached Little League and Pony League baseball for 25 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Hedrick is survived by his wife, Vivian W. Hedrick; one daughter, Elaine Hedrick Ashley of Greensboro, NC; sons, Philip Scott Hedrick of Wilmington, NC and Edward Watson Hedrick of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Clara H. Thomas of Mt. Pleasant, SC and one brother, Judge Robert A. (Fred) Hedrick of Raleigh, NC.

DAPHNE BENNETT JEFFORDS
WILMINGTON - Mrs. Daphne Bennett Jeffords, of 925 Summerlin Falls Court, died Thursday, April 22, 1999 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Exum, the daughter of the late Barney Randall and Thelma Simmons Bennett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Moore "Speed" Jeffords.
Mrs. Jeffords was a 1943 graduate of the James Walker School of Nursing and served there as Director of Nursing until the hospital closed in 1966. She then continued her career at New Hanover Regional Medical Center as Director of Outpatient Services until her retirement in 1984. She was an active member of Temple Baptist Church. She was a member of and held various offices in the Republican Women's Club and the James Walker Nurses Alumni Association.
She is survived by her daughter, Daphne Gail Jeffords Holley of Goldsboro; sisters, Allison Bennett Hughes of Shallotte Point, Jean Bennett Wilson of Fiarfax, VA, Betty Bennett Warren of Ash; Bonnie Bennett Craft of Savannah, GA; 17 nieces and nephews; 24 grand-nieces and nephews, and one great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Randall Bennett and Clifford Faxion Bennett.
Pallbearers will be: James Randall Bennett, Barney Randall Bennett, Clifford Andre Bennett, Jeffrey Randall Wilson, Donald William Wilson, William Greggory Warren, Marion Roscoe Warren, Joe Rogers Craft, Barney Bennett Craft, Timothy Ray Craft and Robert Melvin Jeffords.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the James Walker School of Nursing Alumnae Association, in care of Lillian Newton, 5113 Woods Edge Dr., Wilmington, NC 28409.

Survivors: daughters, Joyce M. Jones of Niagara Falls, NY, Virginia M. Dowd of Bronx, NY and Marion Crichlow of East Elmhurst, NJ; sons, Charles S. Jones of Buffalo, NY, Chanton W. Jones, Sr. of Springfield Gardens, NY, Harold D. Jones and Johnny Jones, Jr. of Zebulon; stepmother, Lillie Belle Allen of Zebulon; sisters, Priscilla Erma Williams of Niagara Falls, NY, Frances Perry and Viola Holder of Zebulon and Mary Ann Allen of Raleigh; brothers, Howard Allen of Newport News, VA, Elisha, Benjamin, David and Leon Allen, all of Zebulon; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

WILLIE GRACE KEITH
FUQUAY-VARINA - Willie Grace Dones Keith, 68, died Thursday, April 22, 1999. Funeral 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 1999 at Thomas Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Surviving: husband, Clifton Keith; sons, David Keith of Fuquay-Varina, Dennis Keith of Raleigh; grandson, Jonathan Keith of Angier; sister, Kay Dones Parrish of Williamston.

JOSEPH GWYN LADD
ASHEVILLE - Joseph Gwyn Ladd, 90, of Windflower Court, died on Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
A native of Murphy, he was the son of the late Joseph Haskell and Clementine Bryson Ladd.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph D. Ladd.
Mr. Ladd was the owner and founder of Ladd's Seafood Company. He was a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Ladd is survived by his wife, Inez Johnson Ladd; son, C. Ray Ladd of Mebane; daughter, Billie Smith of Lancaster, SC; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, 1999 in the sanctuary of Beverly Hills Baptist Church. Reverend Timothy A. Lolley and Dr. Buddy Corbin will officiate. Interment will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall of Beverly Hills Baptist Church Building Fund, 777 Tunnel Road, Asheville, North Carolina 28805.

JANIE S. LAMM
WILSON - Janie Sawyer Lamm, 71, died Thursday. Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday, Winstead United Methodist Church. Entombment, Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
She was a member of Winstead Methodist Church for 23 years. During that time, she served as president of the United Methodist Women's Society, Lay member of the Annual Conference, district officer of the Untied Methodist Women and founder of the Rosser Sunday School Class. She was past president of the garden department of the Wilson Womans Club, served on the board of directors of the Mental Health Association of Wilson County and was a volunteer for Hometown Hospice. She had also served as past president of the Lioness Club of Rocky Mount.
Surviving: daughters and son-in-law, Pam Mercer Flowers and Forest Flowers of Wilson, Jayne Mercer Gorham of Washington, NC, Hope Lamm of Wilmington; son and daughter-in-law, Walter H. Mercer, III and Bonnie Weaver Mercer of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Meagan Eaton and Jason Nixon; two great-grandchildren; sister, Betty S. High of Wilson.
Memorials are suggested to Hometown Hospice, 1705 S. Tarboro St., Wilson NC 27893 or to Winstead United Methodist Church, 1407 S. Tarboro Street, Wilson NC 27893.
The family will be at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Service 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.
