ADA HOUSE SESSOMS
DURHAM - Mrs. Ada House Sessoms, 89, widow of Henry Alvin Sessoms, former resident of Newton Grove, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999. Miss Ada has resided this last year and a half with her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and James Gant in Durham, NC.
She was educated in Sampson County, was a homemaker and catered for 30 years specializing in wedding cakes. "Miss Ada" was the oldest member of Oak Grove Free will Baptist Church of Newton Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Henry Alvin Sessoms; son and daughter-in-law Henry Curtis and Peggy Thornton Sessoms; her parents, Charlie C. and Maggie Godwin House, her stepmother, Addie Hastings House; sisters, Ora Vann, Elma Elmore, Ethel Godwin, Leta McLamb and brother, Enoch F. House.
Miss Ada is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and James Gant of Durham; granddaughter and husband, Hannah Gant Soto and William Soto of Charleston, SC; granddaughter, Ada Gant and son, Jesse James Andrews of Atlantic Beach; granddaughter and husband, Susan Sessoms Simmons and Barry Simmons of Apex; granddaughter and husband, Sandie and Larry LeBille of Brandywide, MD; grandson and wife, Ronnie Curtis and Peggy Sessoms of Laurel, MD; great-grandchildren, Jesse James Andrews, Brian and Megan Simmons, Ronnie, Clinton, Samantha and Casey LeBille, Ronnie Sessoms Jr. and J.C. Sessoms.
Funeral service will be held, Friday, April 30, 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Hwy 13 South, Newton Grove with Dr. Burkett Raper, Rev. John Massengill and Ben Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hwy 701 South, Newton Grove.
The family will receive friends at West & Dunn Funeral Home, Newton Grove, Thursday, April 29, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., other times at the home on 2444 Rosin Hill Road, Newton Grove.
Flowers are welcome, but memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Church Building Fund, c/o Nell Butler, 326 Rosin Hill Rd., Newton Grove, NC 28366.

HORACE EBIN "PETE" WHITE
RALEIGH - H.E. White, 84, better known to friends and family as Pete, died Monday, April 26, 1999.
Pete was born in Graham, Kentucky, July 28, 1914. His family moved to West Virginia where he lived until 1957 when he moved his family to Raleigh. He was owner and president of American Mobile Homes Corp. which he founded in Charleston, W.VA in 1945. He later began American Structures in Raleigh which provided additions to hospitals, education facilities and corporations throughout the state. Pete was known for his love of Jehovah God and his devotion to helping others understand the Bible; love for his family; quick wit and sense of humor; his love of playing Italian music on his mandolin and his unselfish generosity to others.
He is survived by his wife, Alta Louise, with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage on April 4, 1999; daughter, Deborah and her husband, Larry Cashwell; son, Jonathan and his wife, Teresa of Raleigh; daughter-in-law, Cindy of Wilmington. Also surviving are his two dearly loved granddaughters, Laura and her husband, Robert Walasin of Raleigh, Leah and her husband, Roger Lamm of Roanoke, Virginia. Of Charleston, West Virginia he is survived by his twin brother and music pal, Maurice; his sister, Reva and brother Radford.
He was preceded in death by his sons, David and Stephen; brothers, Bruce and Bill.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 1999 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 8800 Honeycutt Rd. in Raleigh.
Memorial contributions may be made at any Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
"Thank you friends and caregivers for your love, support and prayers during Pete's illness".

OWEN VANN BRAGG
FRANKLINTON - Owen Vann Bragg, 85, of 1649 NC 96 Highway West, died April 28, 1999. He was a retired farmer and a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruby H. Bragg and a son, Elbert Bragg.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sid Stafford and Rev. Don Ward officiating. Burial, church cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Betty Hicks Bragg; sons, Gene Bragg and Taylor Bragg of Franklinton, Dennis Bragg of Newport; daughters, Diane Johnson and Lisa Wheeler of Franklinton; sister, Hazel Brown of Creedmoor; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Sandling Funeral Home.

EVELYN M. BRINKLEY
LEXINGTON - Evelyn Moore Brinkley, 65, died Tuesday. Funeral service 2 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel.
Among the survivors is a son, Danny Brinkley of Raleigh.
Visitation, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

LOUISE S. COX
KINSTON - Mrs. Louise S. Cox, 94, died Sunday, April 25, 1999. Graveside service 11 a.m. Friday, Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Visitation 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday from the home of Mr. Fleming Jeffress, 2207 Riley Road, Kinston.
Arrangements by Edwards Funeral Home, Kinston.

TEXIE C. GRAY
ANGIER - Texie C. Gray, 86, died Thursday. Funeral 3 p.m. Friday, Saints Delight Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, Angier, Rev. Bennie Smith officiating. Burial, Kennebec Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: daughters, Mary Carter of Garner, Myrtle Hardee of Florida, Linda G. Hart of Rocky Mount, Carol Harmon of Virginia, Patsy Gray of Angier, Brenda Wickler of Wake Forest; sons, Billy Ray Gray and Bobby Gray, both of Sanford, George H. Gray of Raleigh; sisters, Virgie Wade of Lillington, Laura Dickens and Recie Farmer, both of Angier; brothers, O'Neal Campbell of Lillington, N.A. Campbell of Olivia; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Overby-Johnson Funeral Home.

LOVIE HODGE LUCAS JONES
KNIGHTDALE - Mrs. Lovie Hodge Lucas Jones, 85, died April 25. Funeral 3 p.m. Friday, Riley Hill Baptist Church. Burial, Church Cemetery.
Survivors: daughters, Dr. Doris Lucas-Laryea and Patricia A. Johnson of Knightdale, and Geraldine L. Collier of Greensboro; sons, Lynwood R. Lucas of Knightdale, William S. Lucas, Sr. of Pomona, CA; stepson, Harvey L. Jones, Sr. of Garner; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Family at Riley Hill Baptist Church 7-8 p.m. Thursday night.

WANDA LOU LAPKOVITCH
FAYETTEVILLE - Wanda Lou Lapkovitch, 72, of 3308 Davidson Drive, died Tuesday. Memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, April 30, 1999 at Saint James Lutheran Church.
Surviving: husband, Gene Lapkovitch of the home; two daughters, Sherril Lapkovitch of Ayden, Judy Rivenbark of Holden Beach; three sons, Larry E. Lapkovitch of Jasper, AL, Donald "Eddie" Walker of Wilmington, Bennett Massey of Raleigh; four grandchildren.

RALEIGH - Shelly J. Garcia McAvoy, of Raleigh, formerly of St. Clair Shores, Michigan.
Beloved wife of John McAvoy; dearest mother of, David Kaszubski and Kim McAvoy; sister of Karen, Renee and Lisa.
Funeral mass 10 a.m. Friday, April 30, 1999, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores, MI.
Visitation 2-9 p.m. Thursday at the Bagnasco-Tabbi Funeral Home, 25800 Harper Ave., St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Interment, Fairview Cemetery, Brighton, Michigan.

JANET BROUGHTON WHITEHEAD
DURHAM - Ms. Janet Broughton Whitehead, 53, resident of 5029 Green Oak Dr., died Tuesday morning in her home following declining health. She was born in Durham, the daughter of the late Charles Edward Broughton II and Louise Briley Broughton. Ms. Whitehead was a former school teacher and had worked in sales with Sears Roebuck Co. She was a member of Braggtown Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Louise W. Jenkins of Raleigh and Mrs. Kimberly W. Hill of Mebane; two brothers, Charles Edward Broughton III and Ray B. Broughton, both of Raleigh.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Clements Funeral Chapel by Rev. Virgil Nolen. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday evening at Clements Funeral Home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Triangle Hospice, 1804 Martin Luther King Blvd., Suite 112, Durham, N.C. 27707.

DR. JOSEPH M. ALLEN
HOLLY SPRINGS - Dr. Joseph Martin Allen, 67, of Holly Springs, died Thursday. Dr. Allen retired due to his illness after 33 years as an optometrist in Peeksill, NY. Dr. Allen was devoted to his family. Funeral service will be 12-noon Sunday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Cary. Burial will follow in Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Merle Allen; sons, Mitchell Allen of Holly Springs, Bradly Allen of North Grafton, MA; sister, Eunice Yaguda of Albany, NY; grandchildren, Rebecca Emily Allen and Leah Rachel Allen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Fourth Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605.

WILLIAM D. "BILL' GENTRY
RALEIGH - William "Bill" David Gentry, 55 died Thursday, January 21, 1999. A native of Person Co., NC, Mr. Gentry was co-owner of Gentry Brothers Service Company. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving one tour of duty in Vietnam and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park cemetery.
Surviving are his wife Grace M. Gentry; sons, David B. Gentry of Zebulon, Craig W. Gentry of Willow Springs; daughter, Melissa G. Ellis of Woodland Hills, Ca.; mother, Julia G. Gentry of Roxboro; brothers, Kendall F. Gentry, Jr and Mark T. Gentry, Sr., both of Roxboro; sisters, Barbara Ann Lynds of Raleigh, Clara G. Denny and Gail G. Bailey both of Roxboro; and three granddaughters.
The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave. (Hwy. 70), Raleigh.

BERLIE W. BOONE
WILMINGTON - Mrs. Berlie Jones Wooten Boone of Wilmington, NC, formerly of Rocky Mount and Lumberton, died Thursday, January 21, 1999, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born on January 25, 1911 in Green County, NC, daughter of the late Alford and Mollie Cone Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel T. Boone and a daughter, Louise Wooten Deal.
Mrs. Boone was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount for twenty-five years. Upon moving to Wilmington, she joined Gateway Church.
Surviving are her three sons, Ben L. Wooten, Jr. and wife Ethel of Hendersonville, NC; William M. Wooten and wife Rose of Wilmington, NC, and Harold L. Wooten and wife Helen of Statesville, NC; a daughter, Reece Wooten Samuel and husband Ed of Waynesville, NC; two brothers, Ronald H. Jones of Lumberton, NC and Johnny Jones of Fairmont, NC; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 25, 1999 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel by Rev. Jay Young, Rev. Kenneth Wooten, and Rev. Dave Cross. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Boone's grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.

ILA C. BROADWELL
NEW HILL - Ila Clark Broadwell, 96, of New Hill, NC, died Friday afternoon in the Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, January 25, 1999 in the Apex Funeral Home Chapel, 511W. Williams St. (Hwy. 55) in Apex. Rev. Gerald Hart will officiate. Burial will be in the New Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Eric Broadwell and wife Kathleen of New Hill; a sister, Catherine Yates of Apex; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the home of Eric and Kathleen Broadwell, 9613 Horton Rd., New Hill.

KEVIN EUGENE CARR
FUQUAY-VARINA - Kevin Eugene Carr, 38, of Fuquay-Varina, NC, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC. He was born in Madera, California and moved to Fuquay-Varina in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Carr of Fuquay-Varina; his father, Richard Carr of Madera, CA; his mother, Bonnie Rollyson of Malakoff, TX; a brother and sister-in-law, Jeeter D. and Leann Carr of Chowcilla, CA; a stepson, James R. Diaz of Hemet, CA; a stepdaughter, Angela M. Baker of Angier, NC; a grandson, Taylor L. Diaz of Lodi, CA; granddaughters, Shelby, Hannah, Amanda, and Sara Baker of Raleigh, NC; father-in-law Ernest Montgomery, brother-in-law and his wife, Ted and Ann Montgomery; sister-in-law and her husband, Helen and Shawn Porter, all of LaVernia, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 24. at the Harvest Church in Apex, NC at 7 p.m.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Inc., Raleigh, NC.
