HERMON LAVERNE BUNCH
ELIZABETH CITY - Hermon Laverne Bunch, 62, of Elizabeth City, died April 8, 1999. He was a native of Elizabeth City, the son of Hermon Edwood Bunch (deceased) and Flora C. Bunch.
Besides his mother, Mr. Bunch is survived by his wife, Helen Lane Bunch.
Mr. Bunch was a veteran, having served with the United States Air Force. He was a retired anesthetist and in keeping with his commitment to the health care profession, he has donated his body to East Carolina University School of Medicine.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 1999 at First Christian Church in Elizabeth City.
The family will receive friends at the home of Al and Joy Rhodes at 707 Wareham Street in Elizabeth City on Friday, April 9, 1999 from 7-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers and other considerations the family requests that donations be made to the Hermon Laverne Bunch scholarship fund in care of First Christian Church, 701 Parsonage Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.H

HOLLY SPRINGS - Oran David Butler, 56, of 6617 Rex Rd., Holly Springs, died Wednesday. Funeral 4 p.m. Saturday at Collins Grove Baptist Church; burial in Wake Chapel Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Martha Butler; sons, Oran David Butler II of Fuquay-Varina and Michael Guy Butler of the home; daughters, Tonya Marie Barefoot and Tina Mae Turnage both of Garner; mother, Geraldine Butler of Richwood, W.Va.; sisters, Susie Butler of Morrisville and Sherri Alderman of Richwood, W.Va.; six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Sugg Funeral Home in Fuquay-Varina.

ROBERT E. BUTLER
MARCH 23, 1919 - APRIL 7, 1999
RALEIGH - Robert E. Butler, 80, was a retired machinist with Dillon Supply for 50 years.
Mr. Butler was a body donor to Duke Medical Center for medical research.
The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
Memorial service 2 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel.
Surviving: sons, Robert E. Butler Jr. of Knightdale, Wert Butler of Raleigh; granddaughters, Alicia Butler of Knightdale, Tina Currin of South Carolina; three great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Butler of Norfolk, Va; sister, Christine Korford of Roy Utah.
The family will be at the home of Robert and Lorraine Butler, 2324 Hodge Road, Knightdale.

MARY KATHRINE CANTER
RALEIGH - Mary Kathrine Canter, 82, died Thursday, April 8, 1999. Mrs. Canter was born in Hamblen County, TN and came to Raleigh in 1965. She was a member of North Street Baptist Church for over 25 years.
Predeceased by her husband, Woodrow M. Canter in 1965, and her son, James R. Canter in 1968, she is survived by her daughter, Sandra Mariotte; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Mitchell Funeral Home chapel, with interment in Raleigh Memorial Park. Friends may visit 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's St., and other times at 5208 Melbourne Rd., Raleigh.
Flowers are welcomed, or memorials may be made to North Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 400 N. Boylan Ave., Raleigh, NC 27603.

ALEXANDER ANDREWS CARLYLE JR.
JULY 19, 1924 - APRIL 2, 1999
RALEIGH - Alexander A. Carlyle, Jr., 74, passed away Friday, April 2, 1999 at Rex Hospital. Mr. Carlyle was born in Raleigh on July 19, 1924. He was the only son of Alexander A. Carlyle, Sr. and Mildred Weathers Carlyle, both deceased. Mr. Carlyle graduated from Hugh Morson High School in 1941 and served as a P-40 pilot during WW II. After the war he attended NC State University. Mr. Carlyle was employed by the State of North Carolina, NCSU and as a watchmaker at Jeffery's Jewelers. After 24 years as a Mechanical Engineer for IBM he retired in 1987. He was a avid golfer and enjoyed repairing and designing golf clubs for his friends.
Mr. Carlyle was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Wall Carlyle, in 1980.
He leaves his wife, Louise, beloved cat "Barney", best friend, John Berry , many brother and sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces.
Mr. Carlyle was a lifetime member of the SPCA of Wake County and served as a director. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8 in Oakwood Mausoleum Chapel, 701 Oakwood Ave. and will be officiated by Rev. Thom Nelson Inurnment will follow in the Oakwood Mausoleum.

RUFUS H. FAISON JR.
RALEIGH - Rufus Horton Faison, Jr., 84, of 2400 Van Dyke Avenue, died Thursday. A native of Raleigh, he was the son of the late Rufus H. Faison and Ruth Adams Faison. He was a graduate of Patterson School for Boys, served in the US Army in World War II and the Korean Conflict where he received the Silver Star.
He is survived by four nieces, Elizabeth F. Parsons of Raleigh, Frances F. Desmond of Los Angeles, CA, Nancy Spence of Asheville, Margaret Adams Barbour of Columbia, CA; step-niece, Emily S. Barbour of Dallas, TX; two great-nieces, Theodora Faison Sompayrac Parsons and Julia Gatling Bynum Parsons.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Alpheus Carey Faison and Beverley Adams Faison.
Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Oakwood Cemetery.
Friends are welcome at his home on Friday from 5-7 p.m.

MARGARET P. HAMILTON
RALEIGH - Margaret Lee Pittman Hamilton, 82, of 2102 Glenwood Ave., died Thursday, April 8, 1999.
A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, Raleigh Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hamilton was the widow of James Elwin Hamilton Sr. She was daughter of the late Henry Lee Pittman, MD, and Ida Lancaster Pittman House, and stepdaughter of the late Marvin House, all of Durham.
Mrs. Hamilton was a graduate of the Pittman Hospital School of Nursing in Fayetteville and was a registered nurse. She was a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a son, James E. Hamilton Jr. of Raleigh; two daughters, Leslie Pittman Hamilton Speros and her husband, Thomas Lee Speros, M.D. of Washington, NC; and Lindsay Margaret Hamilton of Raleigh; two brothers, R. Austin Pittman of Charlotte, W. Henry Pittman of Durham and a sister P. Willougby of Grass Valley, CA; four grandchildren, Thomas E. Hamilton, Heather C. Hamilton, Lindsay C. Speros, and Alexander L. Speros.
Mrs. Hamilton also was predeceased by a brother, Paul C. Pittman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Barium Springs Home for Children, P.O. Box 1, Barium Springs, NC 28010, 800-320-4157 FREE; or the charity of one's choice.

RUTH GUNTER HELMS
N. AUGUSTA, GA - Ruth Gunter Helms, 89, died April 6, 1999. Graveside service 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 1999 at Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount, NCwith Rev. Caswell Shaw officiating. She was born in Pittsboro, NC. She was a retired Interior Designer with Brewer Paint & Wallpaper Co. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church, Rocky Mount, NC and past president of the Pilot Club.
Surviving: daughter, Nancy H. Surles of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Joseph Helms Surles of Augusta, Nicholas Duke Surles of Hamberg, PA; two great-grandchildren; brother, Leon Gunter of Lucama, NC; sister, Nell G. Flowers of Wilson, NC; a nephew and several nieces.
Memorials may be made to First Methodist Church, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, Lucama United Methodist Church, Lucama United Methodist Church, Lucama, NC 27851 or Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, 1330 Monte Sano Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.
The family will receive friends following the funeral service.

CHARLES F. JAMIN
LUMBERTON - Mr. Charles F. Jamin, 81, of 703 W. 26th Street, Lumberton, NC died Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton, NC. He was born on May 15, 1917 in Jersey City, New Jersey; son of the late Anthony Barnes and Jeannette Trez Jamin. Mr. Jamin graduated from St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City, NJ and attended Fordham University. He came to Lumberton in 1947 with the Chicago Cubs Farm Club and in 1948 managed the team. He also worked for the Robeson County Tax Department, and was a member of St. Francis De Sales Church.
A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis De Sales Church with Father John R. Kelly officiating. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Ernestine W. Jamin of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia J. Humphrey and Duncan L. Humphrey Jr. of Fuquay-Varina, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Anne Marie Hendren of the home; one brother, Arthur Jamin of Roselle, New Jersey; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis De Sales Church Building Fund; 2000 Elizabethtown Road, Lumberton, NC 28358.
The family will receive friends at Biggs Funeral Home, Friday from 7-9 p.m. and other time at the residence.

ROBERT R. MATZ
SEP. 5, 1931 - APR. 7, 1999
RALEIGH - Robert Raymond Matz, 67, of 6624 Walnut Cove Drive, a retired supervisor with AT&T, now working with Hefner Tire Co., died Wednesday.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday at St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Frances Sorrell Matz; daughters, Debbie Kummelehne of Matteson, IL, Mary Jo Beski of Naperville, IL, and Caryn Willett of Chicago Heights, IL; step-daughter, Amie Meredith of DeKalb, IL; stepsons, Mark Verkler of Benson, Mathew Verkler and Donald Verkler, both of DeKalb, IL; sister, Catherine Littrell of Pompano Beach, Fl; grandchildren, Jason, Jeffrey, Sarah, Jenny, Amy, and Kate; great-grandchild, Kody.
Visitation, 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.

NEWTON GROVE - Mr. William L. Pierce, 42, formerly of 1275 Thornton Road, Newton Grove, died Thursday, April 8, 1999. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 1999 at West & Dunn Funeral Home Chapel, Newton Grove. Rev. Glenn McCullen officiating. Burial, Reedy Prong Church Cemetery.
Surviving: mother, Delphia Pierce of Newton Grove; brother, Michael Wayne Pierce of Newton Grove.
Family at funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 1999.

RUTH HOWE REGAN
NEW BERN - Ruth Howe Regan, 78, of 113 Pinecone Lane, Havelock, died Wednesday at Craven Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Regan is the original founder of "Prematurely Yours" baby book for premature infants. She was the founder of Cape Health Clinic in Newport, North Carolina. Mrs. Regan was a volunteer for fourteen years at the Whistle Stop at Cherry Point, North Carolina. Also the founder of the "Ruth Regan Scholarship" at Havelock High School.
Funeral Mass will be 9 a.m. Saturday at the Annunciation Catholic Parish in Havelock with Father Frederick Flaherty Presiding. Interment will be in Forrest Oaks Memorial Cemetery.
Surviving: son, James A. Regan of Gloucester, NC; daughters, Maureen DaBiero of Virginia Beach, Virginia Beach, VA, Patricia Sparks of Havelock, NC, Kim Bryant of Suffolk, VA; brother, Lawrence Howe of Alexandria, VA; sister, Vivian Anderson of New Port Richey, FL; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Pollock-Wells and Best Funeral Home.

SEPT. 13, 1914 - APRIL 6, 1999
RALEIGH - Wilburn Altamont Reynolds, 84, of Raleigh, died April 6, 1999 at Raleigh Community Hospital after a difficult battle with Lung Cancer.
A memorial service will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in the Joseph G. Brown Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy V. Foundation for Cancer Research, 1201 Walnut Street, 2nd Floor, Cary, N.C. 27511.
