ROSA E. THARRINGTON
ROCKY MOUNT - Rosa Lee Ellen Tharrington, 85, died Monday, January 18, 1999 after a long illness. She was born April 4, 1913 in Nash County, daughter of the late William Emmett and Rosa Vick Ellen. She was preceded in death her beloved husband, George Williams Tharrington.
She is survived by her only child, Bonnie Tharrington Kane of Rocky Mount and her two grandsons, Harry Joseph Kane IV of Boone, N.C. and George William Kane of Raleigh. Also surviving are her brother, William Emmett Ellen of Chesapeake, Va. and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Red Oak High School, Rocky Mount Business and Professional School and worked for three years as a bookkeeper for the Rocky Mount Merchants Association and for J.A. Tharrington and Sons. She then dedicated her life to creating a wonderful home for her husband, daughter and grandsons. She attended nurses training until failing eyesight caused her to suspend those studies, but she did nurse her elderly parents in the home from 1953-1956. A charter member of Lakeside Baptist Church, she had an early adulthood being the church secretary at Dortches Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. today at Lakeside Baptist Church with Rev. Jody Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Lakeside Baptist Church.

CLARA M. WEST
RALEIGH - Clara Montgomery West, 101, a former resident of 1508 Ridge Rd., died Tues., Jan. 19, 1999, in Archdale, NC.
Mrs. West is survived by a son, Rev. E. Paul West, Jr., of Graham; a daughter, Mrs. R. Thomas Boykin of Kernersville; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Rev. E.P. West who was a Baptist minister. Rev. and Mrs. West were charter members of Ridge Road Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted by Dr. Mack Thompson at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Ridge Road Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's St.

LEE-ANN M. FIELDS
CARY - Lee-Ann McIntosh Fields, passed away on Friday, February 5, 1999. Devoted wife of Scott Fields and loving mother of Taylor and Madison; daughter of Raymond and Joan McIntosh; sister of Stacy and Inga; also leaving father-in-law, Mike and Cathy; mother-in-law, Shirley; brothers-in-law, Matt, Rich (Penny), Brian and Christopher and and sister-in-law, Kim. Graduate of Florida Atlantic University in Baca Raton, FL and Hammell Paralegal College in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Memorial service to be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999 at St. John Neuman Catholic Church (12125 SW 107 Ave., Miami, FL). Burial immediately following at Caballero Woodlawn Park Funeral Home and Cemetery (11655 SW 117 Ave., Miami, FL).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lee-Ann Fields Breast Cancer Resource Fund, c/o Cary Page Rotary Club, P.O. Box 836, Cary, North Carolina 27512, which would be greatly appreciated.

EUGENE POWELL McCLENNEY
CARY - Eugene Powell McClenney, 54, of 105 Queensferry Road, passed away Saturday, February 6, 1999, at Wake Medical Center. He was the son of the late Gurney and Lucille Holmes McClenney. He is survived by his loving wife, Carmen, and daughters April Rose McClenney Morgan of Raleigh and Michelle Dawn Higgins of Raleigh; cherished granddaughters, Melia Ashley Morgan and Mariah Rose Morgan of Raleigh, and sister, Cindy McClenney of Pembroke.
He was a man of many talents including licensed building contractor, electronics engineer, and real estate broker along with his wife for many years. His entire life was devoted to his wife, daughters, and granddaughters. He was a dear friend to all with an amazing sense of humor to everyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path. His special love and kindness will remain in our hearts always.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Maynard Road, Cary.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary.

KARL REINHARDT MEHLICH
RALEIGH - Karl Reinhardt Mehlich, 58, died Sunday, February 7, 1999. Karl was president of Mehlich Electronics, Inc., where he designed and engineered the Mehlich Multiplex Nurse Call System. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir, served on the church council and various committees. Karl lived life to the fullest. He was a loving husband, father and friend to everyone who knew him. He will be missed by all and our cherished memories of him will be our source of strength. Born March 10, 1940 in Raleigh to Adolf and Emma Mehlich. He attended North Carolina State University majoring in electronics.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn U. Mehlich; daughter, Kim M. Jordan and son-in-law, Rev. James W. Jordon of Greensboro; brother, A. Leonhard Mehlich; sister, Efrieda Turnage; two nieces, three nephews, six great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park cemetery.
In addition to flowers, donations may be made in honor of Karl R. Mehlich to: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2723 Clark Ave., Raleigh, N.C. 27606-7199; or to a charity of one's choice.

CHARLEEN R. SUCCETTI
CARY - Charleen Rhea Succetti, of 1113 Highland Trail, peacefully passed away early Sat. morning, Feb. 6, 1999.
Mrs. Succetti was born in San Diego, CA, May 7, 1929 to the late Ray Wilson Sr. and Gertrude Flanagan.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Aldo L. Succetti Sr. of the home; sons, Aldo L. Succetti Jr. and wife, Denise of Cary, Michael R. Succetti of San Diego, CA; grandsons, Ryan, Robert and Timothy; brother, Ray Wilson Flanagan Jr. of San Diego, CA; sister, Dorothy Hilliard of Arkansas.
Funeral services will be handled by Griffin Funeral Service, Pittsboro.
She touched many lives during her lifetime and will be missed by all who knew her, but we can all be assured that Heaven is an even brighter place today, for our loss is now Heavens gain.
You'll always be in our hearts and minds, Love, your family.

JO ANN O. ANDERSON
FAYETTEVILLE - Jo Ann Anderson, 48, of 2116 Harlee St., died Sunday at her home. She was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church and also a member of the Faith Sunday School Class.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Highland Presbyterian Church. Dr. J. Ernest Johnson will conduct the burial. Burial will be private at the Cross Creek Cemetery #3.
Survivors are husband, William H. Anderson of the home; son, William M. Anderson of Fayetteville; daughter, Alyce O. Anderson of Greensboro; father, William S. Olive Sr. of Fayetteville; mother, Alyce P. Olive of Fayetteville; sister, Orion Olive of Fayetteville; brother, William S. Olive Jr. of Chadler, Az.
Memorials may be made to the Highland Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 53036, Fayetteville, N.C. 28305; or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 35752, Fayetteville, N.C. 28303-0752.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7-9 at Rogers and Breece Funeral home in Fayetteville.

WILLIAM M. BRUCE
GORDONSVILLE, VA - William Mercer Bruce, died Wed., Feb. 5, 1999 in Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Bruce was born June 9, 1912 to James Garnett Bruce and Hallie Wilkins Bruce in Culpeper, VA.
He is survived by his wife, Hazael Scoggins Bruce; one sister, Mary Reed Bruce of Culpeper, VA; two brothers, Dr. James Ketih Bruce of Orange, VA, Lucien Wilkins Bruce of Hilton Head, SC; two sons, William Mercer Bruce Jr. of Silver Spring, MD, Robert Garnett Bruce of Highland, MD; three grandchildren, Andrea Lynn Bruce of Elicott City, MD, Garnett Rollins Bruce of Denver, CO, Matthew Merkel Bruce of Mount Pelier, VA; one great-grandchild, Emmaline Rachel Bruce of Mount Pelier, VA.
Mr. Bruce held degrees from Virginia Tech at Blacksburg, VA and the University of Georgia at Athens, GA where he received his doctorate. He spent most of his adult life in service with the U.S. Government in Agricultural Research and Engineering at Greenbelt, MD and Pifton, GA.
Although funeral dates are incomplete at this time services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Gordonsville, Va with the Rev. Theodore McConnell officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Culpeper, VA.

FANNIE L. "MOTHER ED" EDWARDS
WINDSOR - Fannie Lewis "Mother Ed" Edwards 91, a resident of East Carolina Care Nursing Home, died Monday, February 8, 1999. She was born in Nash County to the late Millon Basco and Jerada Finch Lewis. She was the widow of F.M. Edwards. Mrs. Edwards was a member of Cashie Baptist Church, the Eastern Star and the Deborah Sunday School Class.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at Cashie Baptist Church. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Gethsemine Memorial Gardens in Zebulon, NC.
Survivors: daughters, Glennis E. Jones of Greenville, Lucy E. Byrd of Columbus; son, W. Floyd Edwards of Zebulon; sisters, Ollie L. Hinton, Gora L. Edwards and Jerada L. Collins all of Zebulon; brothers, Basco Lewis of Middlesex and Carroll Lewis of Windsor; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Bertie County Rescue Squad, P.O.. Box 74, Windsor, NC 27983 or to the Cashie Baptist Church Building Fund, 221 S. Queen St., Windsor, NC 27983.

RAYMOND GLENN HAIRE
CARY - Raymond Glenn Haire, 53, passed away at his home in Cary on February 6, 1999. He was born in Fayetteville, N.C. on October 22, 1945. Mr. Haire grew up in Charlotte, N.C. and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1964. He earned his civil engineering degrees from the University of Arizona in 1976.
Mr. Haire served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1967 until 1971, including a tour in Viet Nam. He was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service and since 1982 had been stationed at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park.
Survivors include: Jenny Sue Woodrow Haire, his wife of 32 years; daughters, Ashley Raye, age 21, and Kendall Leigh, age 18; his father, Raymond L. Haire and the late Elise Beard Haire of Cape Carteret, N.C.; and two sisters, Janice Heafner of Raleigh, and Sharon Finch of Charlotte.
The family will receive visitors at noon on Tuesday, February 9, at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Rev. D.J. Abernathy of Ridgecrest, N.C., former pastor of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte. Rev Abernathy performed Glenn and Jenny's marriage ceremony in 1966.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Neal H. Woodrow Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Jackson Park Ministries, 5415 Airport Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28208.

WILLIAM "DUB" HUGHES JR.
HIGH POINT - Mr. William "Dub" Calvin Hughes Jr., 76, resident of 3508 Pine Valley Road, died 9 a.m. Monday morning at his residence after a sudden illness.
Mr. Hughes was born August 19, 1922 in High Point. A son of William C. and Faye Kirkman Hughes Sr. He had been a resident of High Point most of his life and was retired owner and operator of Hughes Jewelers on English Road. Mr. Hughes was a veteran of U.S. Army having served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and a member of the North Carolina National Guard. He was member of Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church, Adult Men's Sunday School Class and Chairman of the Board of Deacons. A master mason, he was a member of the Piedmont Masonic Lodge #681 A.F.& A.M. and a member of the York Rite. On June 9, 1945, he was married to Inez Marsh who survives of the home; also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Dubba Kay Lucas and husband Jim of Cary; one grandson, Adam Lucas of Cary; one sister, Mrs. A.C. (Ruth) Ray of 498 James Road; two brothers, B. Amos Hughes of 1808 Guyer St. and Robert L. Hughes of 117 Old South Court.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. William Frank Marks and Rev. Albert Leath. Masonic graveside rites will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
The body will remain at the Cumby Mortuary, on Eastchester Drive, until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church, 2311 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

H. ALLEN JOHNSON JR.
DUNN - H. Allen Johnson, Jr., 46, of Durham formerly of Dunn, son of Mary Tart Johnson and the late Howard Allen Johnson, Sr. died Sunday 2-7-1999 at Duke Medical Center. He was a 1970 graduate of Dunn High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and for many years worked in the Food Service industry in the Triangle area and Key West, Florida.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Cromartie, Miller & Lee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Francis Daniel officiating.
Surviving in addition to his mother is a brother Robert E. Johnson of Raleigh and a number of cousins.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.

MARSHALL G. JONES, SR.
MOUNT OLIVE - Marshall Geddie Jones, Sr., 74, of 662 Garner's Chapel Rd., died Sunday night, in Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro.
Funeral, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Tyndall's Chapel.
Officiating, the Rev. Dan Forbes and the Rev. Bryan Simpson. Burial, Wayne Memorial Park.
Son of the late Yancy F. and Margaret Butler Jones, he was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of Rones Chapel United Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by a sister, Myra Lassiter and a brother, Max Jones, he is survived by his wife, Mary Gray Summerlin Jones of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Marshall Geddie Jones, Jr. and Elizabeth Jones of Forest Hill, MD; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca J. Carter and Drew Carter of Raeford; grandchildren, Yancy Lee Carter, Mallory Lynnae Jones, and Cameron Marshall Jones; brothers, Robert "Bob" Jones of Mount Olive, and Manley Jones of Jackson, Miss; sister, Rachel J. Graham of Charlotte; and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family at funeral home, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday; other times at the home.
Flowers are welcome, or memorials to Rones Chapel United Methodist Church.

DANVILLE J. LANGDON
DEC. 22, 1927 - FEB. 7, 1999
ANGIER - Danville Joseph Langdon, 71, of 4085 Benson Road, a retired builder and farmer, died Sunday, at his home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie S. Langdon.
Graveside service 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Langdon family Cemetery, located on the Langdon family farm by Rev. Max Eller.
Surviving: daughters, Angela L. Scurry of Angier, Patrice and her husband, Michael Broadwell of Benson, Dana and her husband, Daniel McClure of Beulah, CO; son, Ashley and his wife, Donna Langdon of Angier; 11 cherished grandchildren; sisters, Brookie L. Tripp of Dunn, Berlene L. Ennis of Coats and Brenda Langdon of Sanford; brothers, Daywood Langdon of Coats, Devaul Langdon and Don Ray Langdon, both of Angier.
In lieu of flowers, please give to a children's charity of your choice.
