ALLEN WOODROW HINNANT
SPRING HOPE - Allen Woodrow Hinnant, 84, died April 13, 1999. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. from the Ephesus Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Spring Hope.
Surviving: wife, Ruth P. Hinnant; two daughters, Gloria H. Smith, Debbie H. Mitchell; one son, Allen R. Hinnant; one sister, Gertrude H. Bullock; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the Spring Hope Funeral Home, Thursday evening from 7 til 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ephesus Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Nash General Hospital.

LOUISE HOUSER
DURHAM - Mrs. Louise Houser, 78, a resident of 4124 Toroella St., died April 13, 1999 at Durham Regional Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Art Houser and mother of two children: daughter, Mrs Marsha Russo of Cary and son, Mike Houser of Vancouver, WA. She has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Houser was born in Pittsburgh, PA and has lived in Durham since 1985. Mrs. Houser was an accomplished amateur watercolor artist and a devoted wife and mother.
A Memorial Service will be conducted 7 p.m. on Thursday in Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Better Breathers Club, C/O Dorothy Potter, 2609 N. Duke St., Wellness Institute, Durham, NC 27704.

ELLEN RICKS MANGUM
SMITHFIELD - Ellen Ricks Mangum, 88, died Wednesday in Raleigh.
She was the widow of Roy R. Mangum, a Smithfield Tobacconist, who died September 21, 1990.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the First Presbyterian Church, with the Dr. John Causey to officiate. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Mike Strickland of Raleigh; brother, Junius Ricks of Elm City; sisters, Dorothy Draper of Elm City and Estelle Sauls of Eureka; sister-in-law, Clara Ricks of Wilson and two grandchildren, Shannon Strickland and Dawn Strickland.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Underwood Funeral Home.
Flowers are acceptable, or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 620 West Morgan Street, Raleigh, N.C. 27603.

RODERICK E. MINSHEW
BLACK CREEK - Roderick Earl Minshew, 77, A World War II veteran, died April 13, 1999. Graveside service 11 a.m. Thursday, Black Creek Cemetery.
Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Jeff Peterson of Apex; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny Vann and Candy Minshew of Black Creek; grandson, Jeffrey Michael Peterson of Jacksonville, Christopher Minshew Peterson and Connor Van Peterson, both of Apex; brother, Carlyle Minshew of Fremont.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association, 434 Fayetteville Street Mall, Two Hannover Square, Suite 1600, Raleigh, NC 27601.Arrangements by Joyner's Funeral Home, Wilson.

FRED L. OWEN JR.
LITTLETON - Fred L. Owen, Jr., 75, died April 13, 1999 at Halifax Regional Medical Center. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday, April 16, 1999 at Littleton United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Myers officiating. Burial, Sunset Hill Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred L. Owen, Sr. and Velma Thompson Owen.
Surviving: wife, Louise P. Owen; daughters, Carol O. Guidry and Ann O. Phillis, both of Littleton, Deborah O. Keeter of Roanoke Rapdids, Donna O. Matthews of Farmville, VA; sisters, Dorothy Sanders of Georgia, Annie James Drews of Smithfield; eight grandchildren.
He was a member of Littleton United Merchant's Association, owner and operator of Owen Electric Company in Littleton for many years.
Memorial donations may be made to Littleton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 26, Littleton, NC 27850.
Family will receive friends 7:30-9 p.m. Thursday from Blaylock Funeral Home, Littleton.

RHESE JOHN PAGE JR.
RALEIGH - Rhese John Page Jr., 76, of Raleigh died April 13, 1999 at Duke Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora F. Page.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law; Jeff and Debbie Page of Brunswick, OH, Reverend Greg and Joy Page of Winston-Salem; one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and David Pilarczyk of Raleigh; one sister, Betty Mooney of Oregon; four grandchildren, Bryan and Elizabeth Page, and Justin and Hallie Pilarczyk.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15 at Raleigh Memorial Park with Reverend Greg Page officiating.
Friends may call from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
North Raleigh Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the Page family, 870-5123.

ROBERT C. SELEE
RALEIGH - Robert C. Selee, 31, of Raleigh, died Monday, April 12, 1999 at his residence.
Mr. Selee was born in Albany, NY, and lived most of his life in Guilderland, NY, before moving to Raleigh four years ago.
He was a graduate of Guilderland High School and Hudson Valley Community College. He also attended Geneseo State College. He was employed by Quintiles, Inc., in Research Triangle Park as a Senior Data Management Coordinator. He also was an avid golfer and fisherman.
Mr. Selee is survived by his parents, Donald W. and Marilyn Larkin Selee of Guilderland, NY; his brother, Donald W. Selee Jr. of Guilderland, NY; his sister, Mary Beth Selee of Raleigh; and by his great aunt, Mary Lawson of California.
Funeral service will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, NY, Saturday morning at 8:15, and 9:00 in St. Margaret Mary's Church, Homestead St., Albany, NY.
Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home, Friday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice.

KATE FENNER URQUHART
LEWISTON-WOODVILLE - Kate Fenner Urquhart, beloved wife of Irving Herschbein, died April 14, 1999 in New York City. Born in Woodville, NC, June 23, 1916, Kate graduated Phi Beta Kappa University of North Carolina-Greensboro in 1937. After working for the Winston-Salem Journal-Sentinel newspaper and next as manager of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, she moved to New York City. There she began a distinguished career in public relations with Cunningham and Walsh, Allied Chemical, Inmont and BASF. She retired in 1992 to devote more time to her home and her antiques business in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and to her friends, family, and many interests.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving brother, Richard A. Urquhart, Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina, five nieces, six nephews, nine great-nieces, and two great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Richard A. Urquhart and Kate Nelson Fenner Urquhart, and her brother, William Eaton Urquhart.
Burial will be at Grace Episcopal Church, Lewiston-Woodville, NC on Saturday at 3 p.m.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to either of Kate's favorite charities: Historic Woodville, 2312 Van Dyke Avenue, Raleigh, North Carolina 27607, or Historic Hope, 132 Hope House Road, Windsor, North Carolina 27983.

IVAN JIMMIE YOUNG
WAKE FOREST - Ivan Jimmie Young, 57, of 2641 Buckeye Ct. died Tuesday. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Rolesville Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving is a son, Jeff Young of Ft. Myers, Fla.; mother, Mae W. Williamson of Wake Forest; sisters, Anne Young of Wake Forest and Evelyn Mast of Winston-Salem; and a brother, Ronnie Young of Waynesville, NC.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

ALINE A. BLOWE
JAN. 19, 1922-APRIL 15, 1999
RALEIGH - Aline A. Blowe, 77, of Raleigh and Emerald Isle, NC, died Thursday, April 15 at Rex Hospital. She was the wife of the late Sherman W. Blowe. She was the daughter of the late George Augustus and Martha Blanche Alford. Mrs. Blowe was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Blowe is survived by her sisters, Geraldine A. Hall and Christine A. Benton; brother, Paul Alford, all of Raleigh; nephews, Ronnie Alford and George Hall of Raleigh, Larry Alford of Chapel Hill and Mike Alford of Atlanta; nieces, Virginia Brown and Patricia Christianson of Atlanta; ten great-nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 18, and other times at the home of her nephew, George L. Hall, 4829 Rembert Dr., Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested by the family to the American Cancer Society, Wake County Unit, 11 S. Boylan Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27603 or the charity of your choice..

WILLIAM J. DONOVAN
WEST END --Mr. William John Donovan, age 84, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999. Mr. Donovan was President of Trimble Products of Rochester, New York, and while vacationing in the Sandhills in the late fifties decided to relocate the company to Southern Pines, which he did in 1959. This was the first industry to locate in the Southern Pines area. He was a moving force in recruiting industries to the Sandhills area with employment of many local people. Trimble Products was the major manufacturer of juvenile furniture in the U. S.. In 1970 he expanded the operation to include a plant in the Los Angeles area and he relocated to there until his retirement in 1981 back to the Sandhills. Mr. Donovan was a member of the Southern Pines Elks, the Meals on Wheels program, and was a past member of the board of directors of Southern National Bank.
A private memorial for the family will be held at a later date.
Survivors include his daughter, Ellen Donovan of West End; two brothers, Dennis Donovan of Seattle, WA, Jeffrey Donovan of Roanoke, VA; two step-brothers, Charles and Richard Ocosta of Lakewood, CA; ten grandchildren, Tim Congers, Betsy Markey, Aaron Donovan, Todd Donovan, Georgie Donovan, Stacey Donovan, Cory Donovan, Sherry Donovan, Holly Donovan, and Amy Donovan; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Donovan was predeceased by another daughter, Judith Donovan Congers.
Arrangements by Powell Funeral Home & Crematory.

ROSE WHITSON STEWART
RALEIGH - Rose Whitson Stewart, 70, of 401 Grovemont Rd., died Friday, April 16, 1999. Mrs. Stewart was born in Cookeville, TN to the late Mr. & Mrs. Fowler and Whitson. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Stewart was a Food Service Supervisor for University Dining at NC State University.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Garner Free Will Baptist Church. Pastor Fred Scott officiating.
Surviving is her husband, John T. Stewart of the home; two sons, John C. Stewart of Moreno Valley, CA, and James A. Stewart of Silverdale, WA; brother, W. J. Whitson of Cookeville, TN; two sisters, Vona Lee Cumby and Tildia Whitson, both of Cookeville, TN; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made to the Garner Free Will Baptist Church, 1133 Benson Hwy., Garner, NC 27529.

WILLIAM R. ABRAMS
WHITAKERS - William R. Abrams, 60, died Friday, April 16, 1999.
He was born August 29, 1938, son of the late Wrenn C. and Charlotte Wooten Abrams.
He was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and was retired from Sprint. Mr. Abrams was a caring and loving husband, father and a real asset to his church and his community.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Hull Abrams of the home; three daughters, Kim and John Dupree of Tarboro, Angela Abrams of Raleigh, and Denise and Kevin Biddle of Tarboro; two stepdaughters, Robin and Roger Fields of Tarboro and Joy Burgess of Raleigh; one stepson, Kenneth Lee Burgess of San Francisco, Ca; two brothers, J.C. Abrams of Durham and Melvin Abrams of Raleigh; two sisters, Janice Abrams Jenkins of Cape Carteret and Marion Abrams Webb of Wilson; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, 1999 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, with Dr. Jeff Crabtree officiating.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice, 3HC P.O. Box 88, Goldsboro, NC 27533-0088.

HAROLD "RUDY" ALTICE
RALEIGH - Harold I. "Rudy" Altice, 61, formerly of Raleigh and Williamson, W.VA., and currently of La Grange died Friday, April 16, 1999, in Kinston. He was born April 1, 1938 in Williamson, W.VA. to the late William E. and Maude Charles Altice. Mr. Altice had been disabled for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra O'Laker Altice of La Grange; sons, Billy E. Altice of Williamson, W.VA., Harold I. "Duke" Altice, Jr. of Manassas, VA, and John C. Altice of Zebulon; daughters, Sherry L. Chenoweth of St. Petersburg, FL and Deborah G. Wyatt of La Grange; sisters, Lynette Helms of Raleigh and Jessie Foit of Williamson, W.VA.; and eleven grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 19, 1999 at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood Ave. The Rev. Dale Darr will officiate. Interment will be in Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday night at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave.
