ROANOKE RAPIDS - Mrs. Mable Harp Johnson, age 78, of 914 Raleigh Street, Roanoke Rapids died January 29, 1999 at Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 1999 at First Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids by Rev. Rick Gaskins. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Massey Funeral Home in Jackson is handling the arrangements.

BRILEY ASHLYN MOORE
RALEIGH - Mark Alan and Laura "Lauri' Bullis Moore announce the birth and death of a daughter, Briley Ashlyn Moore on January 27, 1999 at Rex Hospital.
Private graveside services were held at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro, NC.
The family requests that memorial gifts in the name of Briley Ashlyn Moore be directed to the Raleigh Special Olympics, Post Office Box 98209, Raleigh, NC 27624-4131.
Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home of Goldsboro is serving the family.

MARY FULLER PERKINS
PINEHURST - Mrs. Mary Fuller Perkins, 67, of Pinehurst, died January 28, 1999 at First Health/Moore Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Perkins was born February 19, 1931 in Taylor County, Georgia.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Thomas L. Perkins of Pinehurst; two sons, Lee Perkins (wife, Patti, and son, Jackson) of San Diego, CA., and Jack Perkins of Chapel Hill; two brothers, Grady B. Fuller of McLean, VA., and Jack D. Fuller of Placerville, CA; one sister, Patricia F. Kennedy of Eustis, FL.
Funeral service will be private.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, c/o A.J. Spong, P.O. Box 241, West End, N.C. 27376.
Arrangements are by Boles Funeral Home, Pinehurst Chapel.

WALLACE E. PRETTY
RALEIGH - Mr. Wallace D. Pretty, 95, of 12304 Strickland Rd., died Jan. 26, 1999. Funeral 1 p.m. Saturday, Baptist Grove Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery.
Surviving: sons, Clifton Champion of Zebulon, Cleveland Champion of Baltimore, MD, Walter Little of New Canton, VA; sister, Alma Price of Zebulon.
Visitation 12:30 p.m. the day of service.
Arrangements by Lightner Funeral Home.

BENJAMIN "TIP' TRUEBLOOD
ROCKY MOUNT - Benjamin "Tip' Trueblood, 75, died Thursday morning, January 28, 1999. He was the son of the late Mary B. Wimberley Trueblood and John Edward Trueblood.
Mr. Trueblood was a native of Rocky Mount and lived in this area all of his life. He was a retired employee of Tri-County Industries. Mr. Trueblood was also a U.S. Air Force pilot veteran and a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Whitfield Trueblood; son, Joseph Privette and wife Cathy of Idabel, OK; daughters, Robbie and husband Claus Kazenmaier of Karlsruhe, Germany and New Orleans, LA, and Betty B. Trueblood of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 301 Circle Dr., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
Arrangements for the Trueblood family are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Inc., Raleigh.

PAULINE A. USSERY
RALEIGH - Pauline A. Ussery, 70, formally of Raleigh, died January 26, 1999. Pauline was born in Goldsboro, on July 4, 1928. She resided in Raleigh for more than 55 years before moving to Clifton, VA to live with her son Paul and his family. Pauline graduated from Hugh Morson High School in 1946, and from Peace College in 1948. She held many administrative positions for the Wake County Mental Health Center from 1948 until her retirement in 1992. Pauline was a loving and caring daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Sophia Agrimis.
She is survived by her son, Paul Ussery and his wife, Louise of Clifton, VA; brother, James P. "Greek" Agrimis of Raleigh; granddaughter, Lisa Nicole Ussery of Clifton, VA; former husband, Robert E. Ussery of Raleigh.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Raleigh. The burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
Flowers will be graciously accepted.

JEAN B. TAYLOR
TARBORO - Jean Barnhill Taylor, 67, died Friday.
Funeral service Sunday 4 p.m at Carlisle Funeral Home, with Dr. Lavelle Waters officiating. Burial in Edgecombe Memorial Park.
Survivors: husband, Larry H. Taylor; daughter, Martha Taylor Hardee of Greenville; son, Howard Taylor of Kill Devil Hill; sisters, Annie Wheless of Louisburg, Thelma Taylor and Mary McPhail, both of Whitakers, Alice Williams of Battleboro; four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Carlisle Funeral Home, Saturday from 7-9 p.m.

ROBERT E. BUTLER
MARCH 23, 1919 - APRIL 7, 1999
RALEIGH - Robert E. Butler, 80, was a retired machinist with Dillon Supply for 50 years.
Mr. Butler was a body donor to Duke Medical Center for medical research.
The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
Memorial service 2 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel.
Surviving: sons, Robert E. Butler Jr. of Knightdale, Wert Butler of Raleigh; granddaughters, Alicia Butler of Knightdale, Tina Currin of South Carolina; three great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Butler of Norfolk, Va; sister, Christine Korford of Roy Utah.
The family will be at the home of Robert and Lorraine Butler, 2324 Hodge Road, Knightdale.
Arrangements by L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, N.C. 27545.

ELISE T. CARPENTER
TARBORO - Elise T. Carpenter, 96, died Wednesday. Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert E. Burns, III officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
Surviving: daughters, Patricia Carpenter Ruffin of Glen Allen, VA, Virginia Carpenter Minton of Norlina; sisters, Lily P. Taylor and Helen Taylor Page, both of Tarboro; sisters-in-law, Nettie S. Taylor and Bet R. Taylor, both of Tarboro; granddaughters, Margaret R. Horvath of Vienna, Austria, Susan R. Clark of Mechanicsville, VA, Sharon J. Minton of Norlina; grandson, Dr. Mack T. Ruffin, IV of Chelsea, MI, John R. Minton of Alexandria, VA; six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends at Carlisle Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

WILLIAM W. "BILL" CARRAWAY
McColl, S.C. - Mr. William Walter "Bill" Carraway, 84, of 3257 Academy Road, died Thursday, April 8, at Hamlet Hospital in Hamlet, N.C.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pine Grove United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Carl Hunsucker. Burial will follow in Adams-McGregor Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Eutha A. Carraway; two daughters, Mattie Frank Carraway of the home and Betty C. Lee of Asheboro, N.C.; three brothers, Arthur Carraway of Snow Hill, N.C., E.R. "Pete" Carraway of Greenville, N.C., Ben Carraway of Raleigh, N.C.; sister, Pattie Carraway of Snow Hill, N.C.; two grandchildren, Betsy Lee and Charlie Lee of Asheboro, N.C.
He was born October 2, 1914 in Greene County, NC and was a son of William J. and Dora Shingleton Carraway. He graduated from Snow Hill High School and attended the University of North Carolina. He was a farmer for most of his life, however he served on the NC Highway Patrol, attaining the rank of Corporal and was employed in the Compliance Section of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, US Department of Agriculture, from which he retired.
He was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, which he served as treasurer for many years.
Memorials may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Isabel Adams, 112 Hinson Farms Road, Bennettsville, S.C. 29512.
Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg.

MONNIE E. FREEMAN
MOREHEAD CITY - Monnie E. Freeman, 85, of Morehead City, died Thursday at Halyburton Naval Hospital, Cherry Point. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and AARP. Service 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 1999 at First United Methodist Church with the pastor, Dr. Milton H. Gilbert and the associate pastor, the Rev. Benjamin E. Wells, officiating.
Survivors: husband, Gordon Earl Freeman; daughter, Ina Freeman Collins of Morehead City; son, Douglas Emory Freeman of Morehead City; sisters, Eula Vennurucci, South San Francisco, CA, Maxine Massey of Maude, OK, Ann Henshaw of Shawnee, OK; brother, Harold Gilliam Chandler, OK; four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 900 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.

ALLIE W. GALLOWAY
RALEIGH - Mrs. Allie Wicker Galloway, 90, died Thursday at Mayview Convalescent Center in Raleigh. The family would like to Thank the nurses and staff for their loving care of Mrs. Galloway.
Mrs. Galloway was a native of Lee County, lived in Augusta, Ga., and Asheville, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James E. Starnes and Roy J. Galloway.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, April 11 at the Green Hills Cemetery in Asheville at 4 p.m.
Surviving: daughters, Shirley Starnes English and her husband, Hal L. English of Raleigh, Helen Starnes Whitesitt and her husband, Dale E. Whitesitt of Rawlett, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Cornelia Ussery of Asheville; six grandchildren, Mark English of Raleigh, Matthew English of Charleston, S.C., Todd English of Raleigh, Melody Padgett of Manhattan, Kansas, Melinda Rottzer of Orlando, Fla., Angela Ernst of Rawlett, Texas; six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Groce Funeral Home in Asheville on Saturday night from 7-8:30 p.m.
Flowers will be welcome or donations to the Homebound Ministry First Baptist Church, 3500 Walton-Way, Augusta, Ga. 30919.
Local arrangements are being handled by the Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford.

RONALD R. MATZ
SEPT. 5, 1931-APRIL 7, 1999
RALEIGH - Ronald Raymond Matz, 67, of 6624 Walnut Cove Drive, a retired supervisor with AT&T, now working with Hefner Tire Co., died Wednesday.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday at St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Frances Sorrell Matz; daughters, Debbie Kummelehne of Matteson, IL, Mary Jo Beski of Naperville, IL, and Caryn Willett of Chicago Heights, IL; step-daughter, Amie Meredith of DeKalb, IL; stepsons, Mark Verkler of Benson, Mathew Verkler and Donald Verkler, both of DeKalb, IL; sister, Catherine Littrell of Pompano Beach, FL; grandchildren, Jason, Jeffrey, Sarah, Jenny, Amy, and Kate; great-grandchild, Kody.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Susan Siegrist.
Visitation, 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
