AVER WALKER
RALEIGH - Aver C. Walker, 108, of 1114 Upchurch Street, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999. Funeral service will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999 at Poplar Springs United Church of Christ. Visitation at the church will precede the service beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment takes place in the church cemetery.
Survivors: one son, L.C. Walker; three grandchildren, James Walker, twins, Roger and Raymond Jones; niece, Amanda C. Woodard; one nephew; great-nephew, Charles Chavis. She also leaves a very good friend, Annie Bell Buffaloe Davis, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

EULALIA MILLS ALDRIDGE
SPRING HOPE - Eulalia Mills Aldridge, fifth child of the late David and Mattie Chavis Mills of Spring Hope, was born August 23, 1912. She departed this life September 6, 1999. She was married to the late William Jay Aldridge. She is survived by two sisters, Mattie Mills Anderson of Montclair, New Jersey and Macie Mills Bullock of Spring Hope.
Funeral Service on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Spaulding Family Resource Center Auditorium in Spring Hope. Burial, Mills Family Cemetery.

MARY A. GOLDEN
WAKE FOREST --Mary Agnes Golden, 89, of Wake Forest, died Friday, September 17, 1999 due to recent declining health.
Mrs. Golden was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and attended catholic high school of Harrisburg, PA.
Mrs. Golden lived in Raleigh, 30 years. Mrs. Golden will be remembered as a woman of honesty, dignity and integrity and whose love for her family was unwavering. She represented the highest standards of good citizenship. Her humility and her wonderful smile will not be forgotten by those who's lives she touched.
A celebration of the Mass of Resurrection will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 1999 in Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow in the church's memorial garden.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Virginia Mackie and husband, Carter G. Mackie of Raleigh; grandchildren, Pamela Stepp, Allison Roche, James Roche and wife, Dorothy; great-grandchildren, Madison Stepp, Erin Stepp, Meredith Roche and William Roche.
Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or memorials may be made to Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 11401 Leesville Rd., Raleigh, NC 27613.
The family will receive friends 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the church prior to the mass.

DAVID M. MILLS
SPRING HOPE - David Moore Mills was born August 8, 1920. He was the youngest child of the late David and Mattie Chavis Mills of Spring Hope. He departed this life on September 16, 1999. He was married to Rometta Bernice Davis Mills.
In addition to his wife, he leaves Dr. Tillet J. Mills and Dr. Cheree Mills (Tillet II and Cheree Ann); Ramona Williams and Fred Williams (Adam Mills, Jovon and Kenya Williams); David M. Mills and Doreen Mills (Marissa Mills, DeMarcus and Doreece); Darlene Mills (Danielle and Kenneth Mitchell); Catherine Wilkins; two sisters, Mattie Mills Anderson of Montclair, N.J. and Macie Bullock of Spring Hope.

OMAR MUHAMMAD ALDWAIKAT
RALEIGH - Omar Muhammad Aldwaikat, infant son of Randy S. Quiller and Donna Aldwaikat, died on Sept. 13, 1999.
Where's the navigator of your destiny, where is the dealer of this hand who can explain life and it's brevity cause there nothing here that I can understand. You and I have barely met and I just don't want to let go of you yet. Omar, Hello, Goodbye I will see you on the other side.
VIOLET WILLIAMS AVERETTE
WAKE FOREST - Violet Williams Averette, 79, of 7316 Zebulon Road, died Sunday, September 19, 1999 at her home. She was born in Wake County and was the daughter of the late Ether Marshall Williams and Lillian Wall Williams. She was a member of Rolesville Baptist Church and was married to Henry Doyle and to Calvin Averette, both of whom preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, September 21, 1999 at Rolesville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Williams Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Averette is survived by her brother, James F. Williams of Rolesville; brother-in-law, Joe Watkins of Rolesville; 12 nieces; one nephew; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ruth Pearce and by her brother, Elwood Williams.

RALEIGH - Pearl Evans Covington, died Sept. 19, 1999 at Rex Hospital. Funeral 1 p.m. Wednesday, Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, Creech Rd. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Memorial Park, Wake Forest.

REBA FONVILLE CRITCHER
DURHAM - Reba Fonville Critcher, 74, of 5214 Leesville Rd. died Sunday morning at Hillcrest Convalescent Center.
A native of Durham, she was the daughter of the late William B. and Susie McGee Fonville. After graduating from Durham High School she went to Rutherford College where she earned her degree in Nursing. Mrs. Critcher worked in the Nursery at Duke Medical Center for 26 years until her retirement. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Douglas Critcher of Durham; one daughter, Bonnie Manning of Durham; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert G. Critcher who died December 5, 1996.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Hugh O'Shields and the Rev. Clay Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home.

JOSEPH LAWTON EURE
EURE - Joseph Lawton Eure, 81, of 1228 Hwy. 158, died Sept. 19, 1999 in Sentura Norfolk General. A native of Gates County he was a member of Eure Christian Church, the V.F.W., the Gatesville Ruitian Club and a honorary member of several hunt clubs. He was retired from N.C. State Maintenance Shop. He was a WWII Army Veteran.
He was the son of the late Daniel R. and Mamie Lilley Eure.
Surviving are his wife, Wyndolyn Felton Eure; two sons, Joseph Lawton Eure, Jr. and his wife Billie of Clinton, Leon Felton Eure and his wife Marinda of Gatesville; two sisters, Marie Harrell of Peru, NY, Alene Barden of Suffolk; one brother, Daniel Eure of Suffolk; three grandsons, Kevin Eure of Gatesville, John and David Crawford of Clinton.
Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Eure Christian Church by the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday night from 7-8:30 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home, Gatesville, NC.

LT. COL. WILLIAM C. GAITHER, Jr.
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Lt. Colonel William C. Gaither, Jr., USAF (Ret), of Wildwood Dunes Trail, died Monday, September 20, 1999 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He was born April 28, 1921 in Statesville, NC, a son of the late William C. and Elizabeth Boswell Gaither.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eugenia McMillan Gaither; son, Christopher E. Gaither; stepdaughter, Millicent McGalliard.
Colonel Gaither piloted a B17 bomber in WWII in the European Theater. He served in the 852nd Bomber Group. Following his US Air Force career, Colonel Gaither became a Real Estate Broker in Myrtle Beach, until his retirement. He was Past President of the Grand Strand Retired Officers Chapter and the Sons of the American Revolution, Col. Lemuel Benton Chapter. Col Gaither was a member of the Dunes Golf and Beach Club, First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach, and a Life Master and Official Referee of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include: son, William C. "Billy" Gaither, III and wife, Cathryn Gardner Gaither of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, McMillan, Wil and Kristin Gaither.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 1999 at First Presbyterian Church in Myrtle Beach. Burial will follow at Southeastern Memorial Gardens with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at McMillan-Small Funeral Home.

BENNIE G. "DOC" HICKS
June 11, 1939 - Sept. 19, 1999
WENDELL - Bennie "Doc" Garland Hicks, 60, of 20 Lakewood Drive, died Sunday at his home. He was an Electronic Technician with the New and Observer and a Ranger for the Neuse River Golf Course. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. A special thanks to the co-workers of the News and Observer for all their support and all the other special friends in ours lives.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999 at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jack Painter officiating.
Surviving wife, Jennifer "Jenny" C. Hicks; daughter, Lynn Cheatham and husband Charlie of Zebulon; sons, Mark Hicks of Zebulon, Danny Hicks and special companion Ginger Fish of Wendell, Jeff Hicks and wife Joy of Wendell; sister, Janie Ilene Duncan of Stem; brothers, Romie Hicks and Robie Hicks both of Samaria, Jerry Hicks of Hyattsville, Md.; grandchildren, Trey Cheatham and Stormie Rae Anne Hicks both of Wendell; special dog, Minnie.

TURNER L. HILLIARD
RALEIGH - Turner Lee Hilliard, 78, of 5929 Timber Lane Drive, died Monday, September 20, 1999.
Mr. Hilliard was born in Fuquay-Varina to the late John and Thetis Senter Hilliard. His wife, Mary Holderfield Hilliard, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving are two daughters, Helen Matthews and husband, Kenneth of Raleigh, Nancy Cash and husband, Bob of Apex; three brothers, Troy, Ralph, and Marvin Hilliard, all of Raleigh; three grandsons, Timmy, Randy and Michael; five great-grandchildren.

APEX - Thomas J. Lewandowski, 50, of 1703 Green Hickory Ct., died Saturday morning, September 18, 1999. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, September 22nd, at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex. Burial will be in the Apex Cemetery.
Mr. Lewandowski is survived by his wife, Marsha A.
