H. GRADY LYON
WAKE FOREST - H. Grady Lyon, 89, died Monday, September 20, 1999 at Rex Hospital. He was born in Granville County and was the son of the late Herbert and Gracia Tilley Lyon. He was married to Lucille Dailey Lyon who preceded him in death and was a long time resident of Greensboro. He was a 1932 graduate of NC State and was retired sales engineer for Whiten Machine Works.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, September 22, 1999 at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham with the Rev. Bill Snotherly officiating.
Mr. Lyon is survived by his daughters, Mary Grace Lyon Cain of Fayetteville, Laura Lyon Damich of Raleigh; sons, John D. Lyon of Wake Forest, Herbert Grady Lyon, Jr. of Bowie, MD; sister, Linda Lyon Woodall of Durham; brother, Julian V. Lyon of Clearwater, FL; eight grandchildren, John A. Cain, John D. Lyon, Jr. Shannon G. Cain, T. Lyon Omohundro, Christopher H. Omohundro, Sean M. Lyon, Elizabeth Lyon Murray and Christine Lyon Fratta; six great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wake Forest United Methodist Church Handbell Fund, 905 South Main Street, Wake Forest, NC 27587.
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening and at the home of John and Barbara Lyon at other times. (919-556-5811)
DALE B. MARTINET July 27, 1938 - September 20, 1999

ZEBULON - Dale Brantley Martinet, 61, died at her daughter's residence at 506 Woodall St., Smithfield, N.C. 27577, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She dearly loved her children and was very proud of them. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clefford and Dorothy Brantley and a brother, Phillip A. Brantley.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home in Wendell. A private burial will follow.
She is survived by a daughter, Deedy Martinet of Smithfield; son, Vern Sullivan Jr. and wife, Tina and one granddaughter, Crimson Sullivan of Kernersville; brother, E.C. Brantley; sister and brother-in-law, Carol B. and Talmadge Morgan of Middlesex; sister-in-law, Sandra Thomas of Lillington.
Flowers are graciously accepted or a memorial contribution may be made to the Smithfield Rescue Squad, 109 S. Fourth St., Smithfield, N.C. 27577.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, other times at the home of Talmadge and Carol Morgan, 4807 S NC 231, Middlesex, N.C. 27557.

COL. KARLTON WARMBROD, USA RET.
CARTHAGE - Col. Karlton Warmbrod, USA Ret., age 83, died September 20, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 24, 1999, at the Main Post Chapel, Fort Bragg, NC. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Post Cemetery.
Survivors include his sons, Stanley K. Warmbrod, and Richard J. Warmbrod, both of Carthage, NC, Hal M. Warmbrod, Wendell, NC; daughters, Faye S. Warmbrod, and Anne C. Bunce, both of Carthage, NC; a brother Harold Warmbrod, Belvidere, TN; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to a favorite wildlife charity.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Powell Funeral Home of Southern Pines.
LIFFIE HARMON WILLIAMS AUG. 20, 1906-SEPT. 20, 1999

COATS - Liffie Harmon Williams, 93, of 112 West Lemon St., died Monday.
Funeral service 3 p.m. Wednesday, Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Angier. Burial, Buies Creek Cemetery.
Surviving: daughters, Sudie Mae Bryant of Willow Spring, Helen Marie Burton of Waterberry, CT and Mary H. Watts of Coats; sons, Otis Clifton Harmon of Apex and Bobby Ray Harmon of Angier; 27 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Otis P. Harmon; a daughter, Ethel Poole and a son, Louis Edward Harmon.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier.

WILLIE S. "BILLIE" CRAFT
MARCH 20, 1911 - FEB. 15, 1999
RALEIGH - Willie Estelle Swaim Craft, 87, who lived with her grandson Christopher at 6328 Ribbon Trough Court, died Monday. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday at Raleigh Moravian Church. Burial, Raleigh National Cemetery.
Surviving: daughter, Peggy C. Cotten and her husband, Jack of Garner; sons, Gerald G. Craft and his wife, Linda of Raleigh, Robert L. Craft and his wife, Ruth of Benicia, CA; sister, Kathleen Robbins and brother, E.L. Swaim, both of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Visitation 7-8:30 p.m. today at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.

BETTIE W. SMITH
GARNER - Bettie Woodall Smith, 96, died Tuesday at Rex Hospital after an extended illness.
Funeral service 3 p.m. Friday at Mt. Herman Christian Church. Burial, church cemetery.
Surviving: sons, Wesley Woodall of Fuquay-Varina, Emerson Woodall of Raleigh, Douglas Woodall of Spring Hope, Jack Woodall of Castalia, and Wayne Woodall of Angier; daughters, Louise Dickinson of Garner and Marie Norton of Willow Spring; 35 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; a brother, William Andrews of Raleigh.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Sam Woodall and C.H. Smith; four sons, Edward, John J., Joseph, and Samuel C. and a daughter, Ruth.
The family will be at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner, 7-9 p.m. today and at other times at a granddaughter's home, Susan Gay, 338 Maywood Ave., Raleigh.

RUBY EDWARDS BAKER
FEB. 2, 1919-FEB. 16, 1999
WENDELL - Ruby Edwards Baker, 80, of 7009 Riley Hill Rd., stepped into Glory on Tuesday night, Feb. 16, 1999 at 9:04 p.m. She was a retired employee of Corning Glass Works. Born in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late James C. and Mary Millard Edwards.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, 1999 at Raleigh Church of God, 1500 Hedingham Blvd., with Reverend Vernon Adams Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Zebulon.
Surviving her husband of 53 years, James E. "Slim" Baker Sr.; children, James E. "Jimmy" Baker Jr. and wife Priscilla of Hope Mills, Betty Jo Infinger and husband Ronnie of Orlando, FL, Teresa Murphy and husband Jack E. of Houston, TX, Renee Peedin and husband Douglas of Wendell, Donnie M. Baker and wife Mari-Leigh of Wendell and David R. Baker and wife Brenda of Zebulon; sister, Lillie Hall of Smithfield; brother, James C. Edwards of Hope Mills; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, other times at the home of Renee and Doug Peedin, 124 Gail Ridge Lane, Wendell.

JOHN D. DOVE
FUQUAY-VARINA - John David Dove, 73, died Mon., Feb. 15, 1999, at 7 p.m. after an extended battle with Parkinson's Disease. He had been a patient at Cary Health and Rehabilitation Center since December of 1996. He was born in Willow Spring, North Carolina on Jan. 5, 1926, the sixth of seven children. He was descended from a family that settled Wake County in the 17th Century. His parents were the late John Bailey and Helen Wiggins Dove.
He served with honor in the United States Marine Corps, Fifth Division, during World War II. Mr. Dove saw military action in the Pacific Theatre of Operations, including engagements in the Philippines and Iwo Jima. He was an original member of the Paramarine Unit, active during World War II and was stationed in California, Hawaii, New Zealand and finally, in Tsing Tao, China. He was known throughout his life as a distinguished veteran of his beloved Corps.
After return from military service, he joined his father's business which included a lumber concern and tobacco. Mr. Dove also began what became a 48 year career in the automobile business, involved in dealerships in the Wake and Harnett county areas. (He is perhaps best known for his 15 year affiliation with Rawls Lincoln Mercury on Fayetteville Street in Raleigh.)
Mr. Dove was a prominent tobacco grower for more than 30 years. During that time, he was among the founders of the Wake County Tobacco Cooperative, one of the largest of its type in existence at its inception, and served as Chairman of the Board for many years. He was an ardent supporter of the Agriculture programs of North Carolina State University and received the Extension Service Award from that institution in 1974, honoring his service and expertise in tobacco research. He has been featured in numerous articles in Progressive Farmer, Tobacco Grower and other regional and national publications.
Mr. Dove was very active in his community. He was a Charter Member of the Exchange Club of Fuquay-Varina, a past member of the Jaycees, the American Legion Post 116, the Masonic Lodge, and the Wake County Democratic Party. He taught Sunday School for 28 years at the Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church, carrying ministry to area nursing homes and was a founder of the Josephine and Paul Bradley Scholarship Fund at Campbell University. He was a past member of the Parents Association of Meredith College.
Mr. Dove was respected and honored by his peers and clients. His greatest joy was found in his work for those in need, giving little attention to notoriety for his actions. He was a devoted husband, father, uncle, mentor and friend.
Mr. Dove is survived by his wife, Sue McDonald Dove of Fuquay-Varina; daughter, Claudia Elizabeth Dove of London, England, Deborah Dove Smith and son-in-law, Charles Thomas Smith, III of Raleigh; sister, Helen Kate Smith of Willow Spring; brother, O. Charles Dove of Greenville, NC; nine nieces; seven nephews.
Funeral service will be held at the Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, Rev. Horace Hamm and Rev. Mike Stinson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., 1510 N.W. 9th Avenue/Bob Hope Road, Miami, Florida 33136 or to the Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 238 Chalybeate Road, Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, 27526.

HELEN SCHLEY HUGHES
DURHAM - Helen Schley Hughes, 87, died at Durham Regional Hospital, February 17, 1999 after a brief illness.
She was a native of Savannah, GA and resident of Durham, NC since 1950. She was the daughter of the late Helen and John Dearing Schley and the husband of Dr. Jack Hughes.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. John Schley Hughes of New Haven, CT, James Philip of Asheville, NC, Charles MacDonald of Danville, VA, William Leggette of Tokyo, Japan and Robert Pickens of Glastonbury, CT; daughter, Elizabeth Hughes Hall of Durham; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Durham, NC, Friday, February 19, 1999 at 2 p.m. Placing of the ashes in the St. Stephen's Memorial Garden will follow the service. Guests will be greeted in the parish hall after the service. Memorial gifts may be made to Triangle Hospice, 1804 MLK Pkwy, Durham, NC 27707.

SARA B. JUBY
RALEIGH - Sara Brown Juby, 78, of the Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh, died at Rex Hospital on Tuesday, February 16, 1999.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 19, 1999at the Springmoor Retirement Center Chapel in Raleigh with the Revs. Philip Wiehe and Phyllis Mayo officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Salisbury.
Mrs. Juby was the daughter of the late Douglas L. and Nell Moyle Brown of Salisbury, NC. She was educated in the Salisbury City Schools and moved to Raleigh in 1956. She worked in the N.C. Legislature and at NC State University.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard R. Juby, Sr.
Survivors: son, Robert E. Daniel of Greenville, NC; three stepsons, Philip Juby of Buies Creek, Kenneth Juby of Virginia and Richard Juby of Texas; granddaughter, Laura Daniel of Asheville; five step-grandchildren, Kate, Michael, Parker, Rachel, and Kimberly Juby.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Soup Kitchen of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 28024, Raleigh, NC 27611; The Sara Cheshire House of the Episcopal Chaplaincy of NC State University; or the In-Patient Hospice Care of Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC 27607.

BARBARA L. LYONS
CARY - Barbara Lynne Lyons, 54, of Raleigh, died Saturday, February 13, 1999. Ms. Lyons was born in Newport News, VA, the daughter of Margaret P. Scanlan and the late, John F. Scanlan.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday, February 19, 1999 in the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel, Cary.
Surviving: mother, Margaret P. Scanlan of Kansas; daughter, Christine E. Corcoran of Cary; brother, Michael Scanlan of Maryland; sisters, Patricia Pack of Florida and Joan Scanlan of Minnesota; grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Corcoran of Cary.

FUQUAY-VARINA - Edna Dean Matthews, 85, died Tuesday, February 16, 1999. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Sugg Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Surviving: husband, J.C. Hester of Fuquay-Varina; daughters, Bonnie M. Baird and husband, Paul, Johnie M. Young and husband, Wallace, all of Cary; brothers, W.L. Dean of Forrest City, Tilman Dean of Clayton; sister, Ailene Partin of Clayton; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

EVA T. MOORE
RED OAK - EVA Tunnell Moore, 82, died Wednesday. She born in Nash County, January 27, 1917 and was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Sarah H. and Jimmie Hinton of Nashville, Stephen D. and Carlene Moore of Chapel Hill; sister, Sadie Deale of Richmond, Va.; brother, Norwood Tunnell of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Chad Hinton, Blake Hinton and Caroline Hinton, all of Nashville, Ian Moore and Abbie Moore, both of Chapel Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, M.M. "Mack" Moore and parents, Willie Luther and Eva Pearl Perry Tunnell.
