GLADYS S. HAUSER
RALEIGH - Gladys Smith Hauser, beloved wife and mother, 74, of Raleigh, died Monday, July 19, 1999. Mrs. Hauser was born in Yadkin County, North Carolina, the daughter of Coetta Smith Norman and the late James Ernest Smith.
Mrs. Hauser was a member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher with the Devoted Ruths Class. Mrs. Hauser was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Millbrook Chapter #293 and was a past Matron and was a member of North State Shrine #10. Mrs. Hauser retired as a certified registered nurse anesthetist at Duke University Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 1999 in Hayes Barton Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, William Kerr Hauser of the home; mother, Coetta Smith Norman of Pfafftown, N.C.; sons, William Richard Hauser of Fuquay-Varina, James Alexander and wife, Sara Shupe Hauser of Knightdale; daughter, Marilyn Hauser Moncol and husband Daniel James Moncol, Jr. of Apex; brothers, James Ernest Smith of Cornelius, and Donald Smith of Pfafftown; sisters, Betty Jo Linville of Rural Hall, N.C., grandchildren, William Paul Banks, William Richard Hauser, II, Monica Renee Hauser, Megan Elizabeth Hauser, Brittany Grey Hauser, Christian Alexander Hauser; great-grandchildren, Ethan Ryan Banks, Meredith Ann Hauser and Chad James Porter.
The family will receive friends Thursday following the funeral at 4228 K Held Road, Knightdale, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, N.C. 27608.

LIDA RENN O'QUINN
LILLINGTON - Mrs. Lida Renn O'Quinn, 87, of Lillington a native of Granville County, died at Rex Convalescent Center on Tuesday, July 20, 1999. She was the daughter of the late John Gibbons Renn and Edna Haskins Renn. Mrs. O'Quinn retired as the Director of Nursing with the Harnett County Health Department.
Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 1999 at Lillington Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Morris and Rev. Jeff Roberts officiating. Burial, Harnett Memorial Park.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 23, 1999 at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home other times at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B.C. O'Quinn and a brother, James Renn.
Surviving: daughter, Frances O'Quinn Haywood and son-in-law, Keith Haywood of Angier; son, Byron "Barney" O'Quinn and daughter-in-law, Marion O'Quinn of Fuquay-Varina; sisters, Alice Taylor of Fayetteville, Helen Lawson of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Joyce Renn Andrews, George Keith Haywood, John Caviness O"Quinn and Emily Nolan O'Quinn.
Memorials: Lillington Baptist Church, PO Box 670 Lillington, NC 27546.

BILLY RAY ARNOLD
MAY 13, 1947 - JULY 20, 1999
RALEIGH - Billy Ray Arnold, 52, of 6001 Bethel Circle, died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the mausoleum at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Arnold; sons, John P. Arnold of Wendell, Waylon Preston Arnold, William Patrick Arnold and Jimmie Terry, all of the home; mother, Mamie Gregory and grandmother, Hattie Cain; sister, Clara Whitaker of Raleigh; brother, Raymond Arnold of Raleigh, and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.

EUGENE A. BAIN
GREENSBORO - Mr. Eugene Alexander Bain, 68, of 5108 Mockingbird Rd., in Greensboro, went home to be with the Lord at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 19, 1999. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church where he was an active member. Burial will follow at Gilmore Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Cannaday Bain and Robert E. Bain of Sanford.
Mr. Bain served in the United States Army and the Air Force from 1950 to 1958. He retired from AT&T in 1986, after 33 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Previtte Bain; son, Darryl Alexander Bain; daughters, Karen Bain and Jeanne Bain Kennedy; son-in-law, Terry L. Kennedy, all of Greensboro; brothers, Ellis Bain and Earl Bain, both of Sanford, Everette Bain of Warsaw, VA; sister, Marie Buchannan of Sanford. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Patrick Bain, Kelsey, Loralynn, and Heather Kennedy, all of Greensboro.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel, and other times at the residence.

KATHERINE B. BATES
RALEIGH - Katherine Elizabeth Blalock Bates, 83, formerly of 214 Camden St., Raleigh, daughter of John Oscar Sr. and Maggie Horton Rivers Blalock,, departed this life on July 18, 1999 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 1999 in Carolina Biblical Gardens.

LEUE HARRIET BATTS
ROCKY MOUNT - Leue Harriet Batts, 95, died Tuesday, July 21, 1999.
She was born February 18, 1904, daughter of the late Leo and Molly Thorne Batts.
Ms. Batts received two years education from East Carolina Teachers College, two years Atlantic Christian College, and furthered her training at UNC Chapel Hill in Psychology. She taught 40 years in North Carolina Schools, twenty three at Bienvenue School. Ms. Batts was a member of First Baptist Church, Rocky Mount Garden Club, Business Professional Womens Club, and Local, State, District, National Retired School Personnel Association.
Surviving: niece, Peggy Boone of Rocky Mount.
Graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday at Pineview Cemetery, Section 26, with Rev. William Grisham officiating.
Family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Arrangements by Johnson Funeral Home, Sunset Avenue.

CHARLIE R. BULLUCK
ZEBULON - Charlie Ray Bulluck, 60, died Tuesday. Graveside service 11 a.m. Friday, Zebulon Cemetery.
Surviving: sons, Jay Bulluck and Tony Ray Bullock of Rocky Mount; sisters, Dorothy McCrory of Somerville, SC, Blanche Ellis of Saratoga; brothers, Willard Bulluck of Zebulon, Tom Bulluck of Vicksburg, MS; five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Massey Funeral Home, Zebulon.

PATRICIA "TRICIA" NEWBY CARR
WILSON - Mrs. Patricia "Tricia" Newby Carr, 49, of 110 Reid Street, Wilson, NC, died Tuesday, July 19, 1999, at the Wilson Memorial Hospital, Wilson, NC. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 23, 1999, 3 p.m., at the Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 726 S. Tarboro Street, Wilson, NC. The Rev. Donald Newby will officiate. The burial will follow in the Hamilton Burial Garden, Lane Street Extension, Wilson, NC.
Mrs. Carr was a licensed cosmetologist.
She is survived by her father: Mr. Thomas Newby of Wilson, NC; seven sisters, Mr. Jean N. Dixon (Levie), Mrs. Ernestine Jones, Mrs. Romain Jones & Mrs. Gerald Francine Jones (Robert) all of Wilson, NC, Mrs. Debra N. Parker (Ronald) of Kansas City, MO, Mrs. Angela Farmer & Mrs. Sylvia McLaurin (Dennis) all of Dallas, TX; five brothers, Mr. Charles Martin Newby, the Rev. Donald R. Newby (Diane), Mr. Michael Newby and Mr. Ricky Lee Newby all of Wilson, NC, Mr. Jerry Newby of Raleigh, NC.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 22, 1999, from 8:15 till 9:15 at the Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 726 S. Tarboro Street, Wilson, NC.

BUFORD E. DENNIS
RALEIGH - Buford E. Dennis, 83, a prominent Raleigh businessman died Tuesday, July 20, 1999.
A native of Uwharrie, NC he was the son of the late George Edmond and Mary Caroline Mullinix Dennis. He was a member of the Milner Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, July 23, 1999 in the Uwharrie United Methodist Church Cemetery, Uwharrie, NC by Rev. Vernon Morton.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Hunsucker Dennis; one son, George E. Dennis and wife Judy of Raleigh; three daughters, Nancy Hamm and husband, Jerry of Sanford, NC, Carolyn Johnson and husband Ron of Raleigh and Debra Blackburn of Raleigh; sister, Vivian Cranford of Troy, NC; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

BILLY RAY DURHAM
KINSTON - Billy Ray Durham, 60, of 2605 Summer Drive, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
During his 10 years of service with the Air Force, Billy R. Durham was presented with a "Mach Buster" pin and diploma for his flight in a F 100 super sonic jet aircraft, traveling through the sound barrier. It was the first flight for the newly assigned airman and the first enlisted man from the531st to ride in a F 100 traveling faster than the speed of sound.
Survivors include: sisters, Lillie D. Evans of Emerald Isle, Ethelene Braxton of Cove City, Penny Lutrell of Taylorville, IL, Barbara Ann Durham of New Bern.
A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, 1999 from the Snow Hill City Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Register officiating.
Garner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

WILMA ROBERTS EVANS
LEXINGTON - Wilma Roberts Evans, 70, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999. Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Entombment, Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Survivors: sons, Calvin Troxler Evans of Graham and Steve Evans of Fuquay-Varina; three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home.

WILSON C. FLEETWOOD JR.
RALEIGH - Wilson C. Fleetwood, Jr., 58, died in his home on Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. A native of Hertford County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine Fleetwood and Wilson C. Fleetwood, Sr., a brother, David Fleetwood and a sister, Virginia F. Baker.
A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and San Diego State University School of Law, he was an attorney in San Diego and a member of the California Bar Association. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Commissioned Officer during the Viet Nam Conflict.
Survivors include: son, Joseph Cale Lowe of Hertford County; uncles, William H. Fleetwood of Summerville, SC, Henry B. Fleetwood of Seaboard; aunt, Faye F. Attkisson of Roanoke Rapids; numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro by the Rev. Davis Smith.
Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway is in charge of arrangements.

DALPHIES LITTLETON GLIDEWELL
GOLDSBORO - Dalphies Littleton Glidewell, 83, died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center.
A native of Wilson County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Nora Watson Littleton and was the widow of B. R. "Bill" Glidewell. She was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church and was retired from S. H. Kress Company.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Falling Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Varner officiating. Burial will follow in Falling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughters, Challie G. Graham of Goldsboro and Deborah G. Summerlin of Kenansville; son, B. R. Glidewell of Cary; sister, Otha Lee Hollingsworth of Goldsboro; brothers, Luther Littleton of Carthage and Johnny Mack Littleton of Maryland; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 499 Falling Creek Church Rd., Goldsboro, NC 27530 or Grantham Rescue Squad, Hwy 13 South, Goldsboro, NC 27530.

GLADYS W. GOODSON
MOUNT OLIVE - Gladys Wells Goodson, 85, retired librarian of East Duplin High School, died Wednesday.
Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday, Tyndall Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Carlisle Franks and Rev. Paul Rose. Burial, Maplewood Cemetery.
Surviving: husband of 64 years, John M. Goodson of the home; daughter, Betty G. Sutton of Cary; sons, Dr. John Phillip "Phil" Goodson of Raleigh, James Michael "Mike" Goodson of Princeton, N.J., Robert Linwood "Bobby" Goodson of Goldsboro; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to your local unit of the American Cancer Society.
