JOHN GEORGE STEVENSON
RALEIGH - John George Stevenson, 56, of Raleigh, died Thursday, July 29, 1999 in Rex Hospital.
Mr. Stevenson was born in Bergen Co., NJ, on February 3, 1943, the son of Charles Henry Stevenson and the late Mary Pugh Scott Stevenson.
John was a retired IBM employee with 32 years of dedicated service and a veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine Service. His wife and family were always his greatest loves. Sailing and creating wonderful toys for his granddaughter were both joys in his life. His co-workers, members of his church, neighbors and friends alike will miss him. He fought cancer with courage, determination and a positive outlook that never wavered. He was a husband, soul mate, a dad, a brother, a mentor and a grandpa.
Surviving are his wife, Judith K. Stevenson; one son, John "Jack" George Stevenson Jr., and wife, Amy of Raleigh; one daughter, Jeannette Mefford Stevenson and husband, William Mefford of Raleigh; his father, Charles Henry Stevenson of Sallsbury Center, NY; one brother, Roy Edward Stevenson of Las Cruces, NM; two sisters, Mary Ann Stone of Dolgeville, NY and Joan L. Howell of Georgetown, SC; one granddaughter Katelyn Danielle Stevenson; several nieces and nephews.
Liturgy of Christian Burial will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, August 2, 1999 in St. Raphael Catholic Church by The Very Rev. Tim O'Conner. The burial will be at a later date at St. Paul's Catholic Church in New Bern, NC.
The family will receive friends at their residence from 12 noon-5 p.m. Sunday and also from 4-6 p.m. Monday in the Arrium of St. Raphael Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Raphael Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of the Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27609, St. Paul's Catholic Church, 3005 Country Club Rd., New Bern, NC 28562; or to the American Cancer Society, 11 S. Boylan Ave., Raleigh, NC 27603.

NU TON TUONG
RALEIGH - Nu Ton Tuong, 88, of Raleigh, died Thursday, July 29, 1999.
A funeral service will be held Sunday 2 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road. The burial will follow in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Toung is survived by her sons, Ton Ngo and Vien Ngo, both of Raleigh and Tam Ngo of San Jose, CA; daughters, Nu Ngo, Mai Ngo, and My Ngo, all of San Jose, CA; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

LOIS MANGUM JOHNSON
WAKE FOREST - Lois Mangum Johnson, 65, of 12176 Falls of the Neuse Road, died Friday, July 30, 1999 at Wake Medical Center. She was born in Wake County and was the daughter of the late Mamie Whitley Mangum and James Alton Mangum.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, August 1, 1999, at the Falls Community Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Mangum officiating.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Terri Barber of Roaring River, NC; sons, Sherrill Johnson, Jr. of Wendell and Kyle Johnson of Wake Forest; brother, Julian Mangum of Wake Forest; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday evening. (919-556-5811)

RELLA S. JONES
NASHVILLE - Rella S. Jones, 90, died Thursday, July 29, 1999. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Jones, son, Tommy Jones and daughter, Peggy J. Stallings.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Mildred J. Guy of Fayetteville, Rachel Carpenter and Faye J. and C.A. Gardner of Nashville; sons and daughters-in-law, Carvey Lee and Nell Jones of Spring Hope, Robbie and Lynn Jones and Bobby Ross Jones of Raleigh; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Nona Lee Jones of Rocky Mount and Stella Clark of Youngsville.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m . Sunday, August 1, 1999 at Johnson Chapel in Nashville with Rev. Mike Coggins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Corinth Baptist Church, 2838 N. NC 58, Nashville, NC 27856.

ANNIE S. KING
McGEE'S CROSSROADS - Mrs. Annie Stephenson King, 93, of 14317 NC Hwy. 210, died Wednesday. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Providence Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. C. Mark Scott. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. King was born March 23, 1906 in Johnston County. Her parents were Joseph and Nancy Stephenson. She was married to the late G. Valmond King. Mrs. King was the granddaughter of the late Elder Moore Stephenson, who was one of the founding members of Rehobeth Primitive Baptist Church. She was a charter member of Providence Presbyterian Church and was very active in the church. She was awarded the Honorary Life Membership of the Presbyterian Women. Mrs. King served over 50 years in the Pleasant Grove Home Extension Club.
Surviving: daughters and sons-in-law, Ann K. and Paul Stephenson of McGee's Crossroads, Nancy K. and Tom Nelms of Garner; grandchildren, Sherrie N. Byrd, Steve Nordan, David Nelms, Mark Nelms, Susan N. Scott, Allison N. Tart and Phyllis N. Davis; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Nordan, Jessica Langdon, Stephen Nordan, Sarah Byrd, Ryan Nelms, Christina Nelms, Tyler Nordan, Heather Langdon, Meredith Tart, James Michael Byrd, and Kendall Nelms; God children, Joy and Richard Jones.
Family suggest memorial contributions to Providence Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, 14664 NC Hwy. 210, Angier, NC 27501.

JOHN S. KONOZA
JUNE 24, 1922 - JULY 28, 1999
RALEIGH - John Stanley Konoza, 77, of 6745 Walnut Drive, a retired major with the US Army and an agent with the CIA, died Wednesday. Graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 1999 at Arlington National Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Kathy Penny Konoza; two canine pals, Barney and Tobi.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Morris Animal Foundation, 45 Inverness Drive East, Englewood, Colorado 80112-5480.

THOMAS WALLACE MCLEOD
FLORENCE, SC. - Thomas Wallace McLeod, 66, of 611 Chestnut Street, died Thursday, July 29, 1999 at his residence after an illness. He was the husband of Carol "Charlic" Toler McLeod. Born July 16, 1933 in Florence, he was the son of the late C.G. and Kate Wallace McLeod.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a school teacher.
Surviving are his wife of the home; a daughter, Melissa McLeod; a stepdaughter, Selena Witham of Sim, NC.; and a brother, Glenn McLeod of Florence. He is also survived by 2 step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 31, 1999 from 6-8 p.m. at Cain Funeral Home. Funeral services are private and will be directed by Cain Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Florence Animal Shelter and Abused Women's Center.

EVA TAYLOR PARRISH
NASHVILLE - Eva Taylor Parrish, died Friday, July 30, 1999. She was the daughter of the late John N. and Georganna Freeman Taylor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter F. Parrish.
Surviving: niece, Barbara Taylor Jones and husband C.D. of Nashville; nephew, John T. Taylor of Hampton, VA; great-nephews, Glenn Jones, Dan Jones, Mitch Jones, Jim Taylor, David Taylor, Steven Taylor; two great-great-nephews, Nicholas Jones and Dylan Jones.
Funeral services will be conducted 5 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 1999 at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Nashville with Rev. Jerry Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the home 3633 West Hilliardston Road, Nashville, NC.

ADDIE W. PEEDIN
SMITHFIELD - Addie White Peedin, 96, died Friday morning in Smithfield Manor following a period of declining health. Born October 25, 1902 in Nash County to the late Thomas Francis and Bessie Aldridge White, she was the widow of James L. Peedin. Addie was a very active member and supporter of the Smithfield Baptist Church, the Smithfield Women's Club and was a past president of the American War Mothers.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Colbert to officiate. Entombment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park.
Surviving: sons, Charles N. Peedin of Rockville, MD, Thomas R. Peedin of Coral Gables, FL; brother, Edward L. White of Pine Level; sister, Bess W. Ragsdale of Smithfield; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Underwood Funeral Home in Smithfield and other times at the home of Bess Ragsdale, 416 Davis Street, Smithfield.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Smithfield Baptist Church, 202 South Fourth Street, Smithfield, NC 27577.

ANDREW BETRAM WADE RAY
YOUNGSVILLE - Andrew Bertram Wade Ray, infant, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999.
His parents, Thomas G. Ray and Kim Doone-Ray and brother Philip Ray all of Youngsville survive Andy. Surviving also is his paternal grandmother, Betty Ray of Raleigh; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bertram Doone of Pennsauken, NJ.
His grandfather, Thomas A. Ray predeceased Andy.
Memorial service will be held in the chapel of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. today.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Andy's memory to the March of Dimes Foundation, 4112 Pleasant Valey Road, Raleigh, NC 27612.

ELLEN M. "DELL" RILEY
OAK ISLAND - Mrs. Ellen Mangum "Dell" Riley, 85, of 121 N.W. 1st Street, died Thursday, July 29, 1999 at Cornelia Nixon Davis Health Care Center, Wilmington.
The memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak Island Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with Rev. Michael Ward officiating.
Mrs. Riley was born January 5, 1914 in Durham County, a daughter of the late Otis and Rena Parrish Mangum and moved to Oak Island in 1980. At the time of her marriage, she was employed by Erwin Mills in Durham. She was a skilled seamstress and after returning to Durham from Baltimore, Maryland at the end of World War II, she was employed at Singer where she taught sewing for 16 years. She later worked with her husband at Riley Brothers Grocery, a well-known family owned business.
Upon retiring and moving to Long Beach, she actively pursued her life-long interest in art and was a founding member of the Oak Island Art Guild. An avid and accomplished artist, she was awarded a lifetime membership in the organization in 1993.
Survivors include her husband, Luther E. Riley; sons, Michael Thomas Riley of Long Beach, Dan Edward Riley of Cary; daughters, Lois Riley Wistrand of Pinehurst, Susan Riley Sullivan of Stony Brook, NY; brothers, Russell Mangum of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Jack Mangum of Las Vegas, NV, Otis Carpenter "Buddy" Mangum of Durham; sisters, Nell Emory and Ann Byrd, both of Durham, Clara Smith of Carson City, NV, Frances Mangum of San Francisco, CA; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Island Presbyterian Church, 1503 Oak Island Dr., Oak Island, NC 28465.

INEZ R. SCHULTZ
GREENVILLE - Mrs. Inez Ross Schultz, 98, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999. Her residence was 235 Windsor Road. The funeral service will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park. Mrs. Schultz, a native of Edwards, NC, grew up in Stonewall. She lived in Washington, DC for a number of years and then later in Belmont, California, St. Louis, Missouri, and Park Forest, Illinois. She had been a resident of Greenville since 1978 and was a member of Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Schultz was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hastings Schultz, in 1965.
Surviving: son, Walter William Schultz and wife, Ann Schulz of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; daughter, Betty Jane Mister and husband, Bill Mister of Fort Collins, CO; grandsons, Andrew Schultz of Longmont, CO, Joseph Chillo of Greenville, NC; granddaughters, Allison Schultz of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Tracey Mister of Denver, CO; great-grandsons, Joseph Chillo and Justin Chillo, both of Greenville; sister, Susan B. Haines of the home; six nieces and nephews; 14 grand-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church, 510 S. Washington St., Greenville, NC 27834 or to a charity of one's choice.

CHARLES E. SMITH
RALEIGH - Charles E. Smith, Jr. of 413 Top Green Lane, died Thursday. Memorial service 11:30 a.m. Monday at Lea Funeral Home chapel.
Surviving: aunts, Lois Burrell Parks and Millie Burrell, both of Raleigh, Mary Burt of Philadelphia, PA; special cousin, Bettie J. Burrell of Raleigh; a host of other cousins and friends.

IONA E. SMITH
RALEIGH - Mrs. Iona Evans Smith, 79, of 1416 Beauty Avenue, died Thursday at Wake Medical Center. Funeral will be conducted at Seagraves Funeral Home 3 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Cemetery in Raleigh.
Surviving: three sisters, Mrs. Vinnie Almeta Hall and Miss Josephine Flack, both of Raleigh, Miss Mary Green of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, Joe Evans of Raleigh, George Height of Wendell; host of relatives and friends.
