ORLANDO, FL - Blanche Mae LeHeup, 98, died March 7, 1999. Mrs. LeHeup was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, she was also a member of Tabernacle Baptist Super Seniors.
Survivors: sons, Elderd Delmer LeHeup of Campbell, CA, Charles Duncan and Jack LeHeup, both of Orlando; daughter, Ann Sauerbrun Stillwell of Umatilla, FL; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Arrangements by Dobbs Funeral Home, West Orlando Chapel.

JOSEPHINE R. McDONALD
RALEIGH - Josephine Rasberry McDonald, 90, of Manorhouse of Raleigh, formerly of 1429 Scales Street, died Sunday. A graduate of Clayton High School and UNC-Greensboro, she was a member of Hayes-Barton Baptist Church for 56 years.
Surviving: daughters, Joanne Rasberry Harris and her husband, Merrelle Harris of Columbia, SC, Sue Rasberry Slack and her husband, Lenton Slack of Asheboro; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday from Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

DREW J. MEWBORN
SNOW HILL - Mr. Drew Joseph Mewborn, 94, died Monday at his home. Mr. Mewborn was a retired Merchant. Mr. Mewborn was a member of Harrell's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday with the Reverend Chuck Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Snow Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include: sons, Joe Mewborn and Roger Mewborn both of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Dennis Mewborn of Burgaw, Gail Knapp of Kinston, Roger Mewborn, Jr. of LaGrange, Monica Creech of Snow Hill, Theresa Pridgen of LaGrange, Christopher Mewborn of Kinston and Dianne Wood of Kinston; 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Taylor-Edwards Funeral Home and other times at the home of Joe Mewborn, 1426 Charlie Ormond Rd. (Rt. 4), Snow Hill, NC. The family welcomes flowers or memorials may be made to Harrell's Chapel FWB Church, c/o Lin Radford, 210 Lakeside Dr., Snow Hill, NC 28580.

MANDY B. PARKER
BENSON - Mandy Beasley Parker, age 81, died Monday. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Holly Grove Advent Christian Church. Burial will follow in Fair Haven Church Cemetery.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Barbara P. and Jerry Lambert of Benson; sons and daughters-in-law, Ova Lee and Doras Parker of Four Oaks and Wallace C. and Kathleen Parker of Raleigh; sisters, Vida Barefoot of Benson and Emma Dean Byrd of Fort Myers, FL; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Family will be at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

BARBARA MARIE POWELL
RALEIGH - Barbara Marie Powell, of 601 Calloway Drive, died Thursday, March 11, 1999 at Rex Hospital. Funeral service will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday at Haywood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
She is survived by a sister, Janet P. Pierce of Roxboro; two aunts, Mable Casey and Ruby Fain, both of Raleigh; a nephew, Charles Pierce Jr.; niece, Joy Pierce; many relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 11:30-12 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.

SALVATORE RENNA
RALEIGH - Salvatore Renna, 73, died Thursday, March 11, 1999.
Mr. Renna was a past master of Masonic Lodge #1143 in Valley Stream, NY and an honorary member of Raleigh Masonic Lodge #500. He was also a charter member of Triangle Italian American Heritage Association.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Renna; daughters, Irene Bobrowsky of Oceanside, NY, Ginger Deaton of Cary; sons, Doug Renna of Raleigh, Tom Renna of West Palm Beach, FL, Jim Renna of Boone; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1999 in the chapel at the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, 2205 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in memory of Sal Renna to the Masonic Foundation of New York, Masonic Lodge #1143, c/o Solon Chalmers, 195 Roosevelt Ave., Valley Stream, NY 11581-1143.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.

MAELENE B. RUSSELL
RALEIGH - Maelene Burns Russell, 60, of 2313 Sonora Street, died March 11, 1999. Funeral 12-noon Tuesday, Seagraves Funeral Home. Burial, Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Surviving: husband, James Russell; sons, Stanley of Raleigh, Antonio of Wendell, Timothy of Knightdale; daughter, Iris of the home.
She was preceded in death by a son, Winthlow.

ALVIE S. SIMMONS
FAYETTEVILLE - Alvie Stewart Simmons, 68, died Sunday, March 14, 1999 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Simmons was a registered n urse, she was owner of Cross Creek Exams. She was a charter member of Village Baptist Church and a volunteer at the Care Clinic.
She was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, William Belvin Simmons, Sr.
Funeral 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1999 at Village Baptist Church with Dr. Bruce Martin and Rev. Mack Roberts officiating. Burial, LaFayette Memorial Park.
Surviving: daughter, Kathy Simmons Block of Raleigh; sons, Rev. Steven G. Simmons of Kalamazoo, MI, William B. Simmons, Jr. of Greensboro; brother, Nathan W. Stewart of Raleigh; grandchildren, Katie Simmons, Betsy Simmons, Jenny Simmons, Lorrie Simmons, Hadley Simmons, Lauren Block, Cam Simmons, Ryan Block, Gregg Simmons and John Simmons.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

ALBERT T. SLAUGHTER
ANGIER - Albert T. Slaughter of Route 1, Coats, died Monday. Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, chapel of Overby-Johnson Funeral Home, Elder Fred Williams officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Rt. 2, Angier.
Surviving: wife, Virginia W. Slaughter; daughters, Patricia S. Knust of Richmond, VA, Sylvia Faircloth and Debbie Johnson, both of Angier; son, Dorsey Lee Slaughter of Angier; sister, Mattie Lewis of Angier; five grandchildren, Karen Faircloth, Matthew Thomas Slaughter, Amber Elaine Johnson and Christopher Ryan Slaughter, all of Angier, Kevin F. Knust, Jr. of Richmond, VA.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

JESSE HORACE "J" PRICE JR.
RALEIGH - Jesse Horace "J" Price Jr., 35, of 4416 Forestville Road, died Monday, April 5, 1999 at Rex Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a partner in Prices Auto Parts and a graduate of Southern Christian Academy in 1982. "J" was a devoted husband, dad, son and brother.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church. Burial, Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Menette Watkins Price, whom he married November 10, 1991; children, Jesse Horace Price III and Lindsay Menette Stephenson of the home; parents, Jesse Horace Price Sr. and Linda A. Price of Raleigh; brother, James Stewart Price "Jamie" and his wife, Carol of Raleigh; niece, Danielle Price; nephew, Collin Price; paternal grandmother, Hettie Price Hawkins of Wendell; father and mother-in-law, Ed and Lynda Watkins of Wendell; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Debbie Watkins of Knightdale; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Menette Price and the rest of the family of J. Price want to convey their deep heart felt gratitude to God, their church, the staff of Inner-Active Ministries and the people in the automotive industry, Masonic brothers, Eastern Star sisters and the many friends who have shown their love and concern. They have received a tremendous number of cards, calls, flowers, messages and contributions. God bless each deed, thought and prayer. J. Price is now at peace. He won his battle with the adversary with courage, confidence and faith. HE IS HEALED.

ESTHER "TESS" ARNOLD
GREENVILLE - Mrs. Esther Gislason "Tess Arnold, 78, of 2901 Sussex Street, died Thursday, April 1, 1999 at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Arnold was a retired state social worker born in Grand Forks, N.D. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. G. John Gislason; graduate of the University of North Dakota; member of Alpha Phi Sorority; lived in Kinston from 1951-1985 and was married to the late Dr. Jesse Hoyt Arnold II; member of the Thalian Book Club and attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Greenville, where she was a member of the Alter Guild.
Graveside service was held Saturday, April 3, 1999 from Westview Cemetery in Kinston. The Rev. Tom Midgette officiated.
She is survived by brother, Dr. Paul Gislason of Mankato, Minn.; one son, Jesse Hoyt Arnold III of Easton, Maryland; two daughters, Dina Arnold Holton of Oriental, Kathy Arnold Taft of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Jessica Andres Gorall of Charlotte, Paige Pressly Fuqua, Thomas Fleming Taft, Jonathan Gudmund Taft and Courtney Marie Wilson, all of Greenville, Cameron Barnes Wilson and Dina Camille Wilson of Oriental, Jesse Hoyt Arnold IV of Frederick, Maryland; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Taylor Gorall and Banjamin Warren Gorall, both of Charlotte.

MARGARET "PEG" BAKER
CARY - Mrs. Margaret "Peg" Baker, 81, of Cary, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999 after a courageous battle with lymphoma.
Mrs. Baker was born in Berwick, Pa. on October 11, 1917, the daughter of the late Joshua and Bessie Grozier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Baker Sr. and son, Frederick Baker Jr.
She spent most of her life in New Jersey and was a bank officer for National State Bank of Elizabeth, N.J. until she retired in 1978.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Thomas Rhyne of Cary; grandchildren, Denel and Stacy Rhyne, Cheryl and William DuFour of Phoenix, Ariz.
Graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999 in the Oakwood Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's St., Raleigh.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, N.C. 27605 or to the Wake Teen Medical Services, 3344 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, N.C. 27607.

LAUREN LESTER BALL
CARY - Funeral service for Mr. Ball will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8th, at Piney Plain United Church of Christ, 2801 Piney Plains Road, Cary, NC 27511.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Cary.
Memorials may be made to the church in Mr. Ball's memory.

MAURICE V. BARNHILL JR.
WILMINGTON - Maurice V. Barnhill, Jr., passed away on April 5, 1999 after a long illness. The son of the late Nancy Cooper Barnhill and the late Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, Maurice Victor Barnhill, Mr. Barnhill was born in Rocky Mount on December 10, 1913. He received his early education in the Rocky Mount schools, and his A.B. and J.D. degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he achieved membership in Phi Beta Kappa.
He began practice in Rocky Mount, worked for the United States Justice Department Anti-Trust Division, and in 1943 moved with his family to Wilmington. He was General Solicitor of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad for 20 years, then established a private practice of law in Wilmington. He achieved a national reputation in railroad labor law representing the Southeastern Railroad Association before the National Labor Relations Board and by other national labor law practice. He was past Vice President of the North Carolina Bar Association, a member of theLaw Institute, Saint Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church, the Cape Fear Club, the Cape Fear Country Club, the Carolina Yacht Club, and a past member of the Civitan Club.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Peggy Zerbach; sons, Dr. M.V. Barnhill, III and James H. Barnhill, Esquire; sister, Rebecca Barnhill Hundley; granddaughters, Christina A. Barnhill Venetianer and Carolina E. Barnhill; daughter-in-law, Georgia Brady Barnhill; grandson-in-law, Robert Venetianer; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy Hicks and Tom Hicks; nephews, Dr. Hugh Mills and Dr. Michael Mills; two grandnephews; one grandniece.
Graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999 at Oakdale Cemetery, 520 N. 15th St. Wilmington, by Dr. Edward G. Connette.
The family will receive friends at Mr. Barnhill's former home on Acacia Drive in Wilmington.

MARCH 17, 1911 - APRIL 5, 1999
GARNER - Wilma Yeargan Bass, 88, of Garner, died Monday.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner.
Surviving: sisters, Geneva Y. Rand, Flora A. Yeargan, and Rowann Yeargan, all of Garner, Grace Hetherington of Carversville, Pa. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sherman A. Yeargan and L.C. "Cam" Yeargan.
Visitation, 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Bethel Baptist Church, 2110 Benson Road, Garner, N.C. 27529.
