ALEXANDER ANDREW CARLYLE JR.
JULY 19, 1924 - APRIL 2, 1999
RALEIGH - Alexander A. Carlyle, Jr., 74, passed away Friday, April 2, 1999 at Rex Hospital. Mr. Carlyle was born in Raleigh on July 19, 1924. He was the only son of Alexander A. Carlyle, Sr. and Mildred Weathers Carlyle, both deceased. Mr. Carlyle graduated from Hugh Morson High School in 1941 and served as a P-40 pilot during WW II. After the war he attended NC State University. Mr. Carlyle was employed by the State of North Carolina, NCSU and as a watchmaker at Jeffery's Jewelers. After 24 years as a Mechanical Engineer for IBM he retired in 1987. He was a avid golfer and enjoyed repairing and designing golf clubs for his friends.
Mr. Carlyle was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Woll Carlyle, in 1980.
He leaves his wife, Louise, beloved cat "Barney", best friend, John Berry , many brother and sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces.
Mr. Carlyle was a lifetime member of the SPCA of Wake County and served as a director. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8 in Oakwood Mausoleum Chapel, 701 Oakwood Ave. and will be officiated by Rev. Thom Nelson Inurnment will follow in the Oakwood Mausoleum.

MARGARET W. CARTER
GOLDSBORO - Margaret West Carter, 86, died Tuesday at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center following a long and brave struggle with cancer.
A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Hiram and Katie Crumpler West and the widow of Goldsboro Police Detective Major Archie Floyd Carter Sr. Mrs. Carter was a dedicated employee of F.W. Woolworth, retiring as personnel supervisor after 37 years of service. For many years after her retirement, she was a volunteer with the Red Cross Bloodmobile. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. C. Steven Teague and Rev. Douglas Cowan officiating. Graveside service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from Wayne Memorial Park.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane C. Divine of Youngsville and Beverly C. Bedenbaugh and husband, Charles of Port Orange, Fla.; son, Archie Floyd Carter Jr. and wife, Lynda of Augusta, Ga.; grandsons, Christopher Divine, Timothy, Ronald and Donald Bedenbaugh, and Trenton Carter; great-granddaughter, Amanda Bedenbaugh; many special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends following the funeral service until 8:30 p.m.
Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to the Parking Lot Fund at Grace Baptist Church, 1715 Royall Avenue, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534 or the charity of your choice.

CARROLL H. GILLAM
WINDSOR - Carroll Hasseltine Gillam, 84, of 207 S. King St., died Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at his home. Mr. Gillam was a native of Bertie County and the son of the late John Bond Gillam Sr. and Sallie Bond Gillam. He was a member of the Windsor United Methodist Church and graduated from Oak Ridge military Academy. He was a former NC Highway Commissioner under Gov. Bob Scot and served on the NC Seashore Commission. He was a past Chairman of the Bertie County Soil and Water Conservation District, and a past member of the Bertie School Board. Mr. Gillam, an outdoorsman, was an active hunter, loved the ocean and was devoted to his family.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 1999 at Windsor United Methodist Church by the Rev. Clyde Denny. Following the memorial service, the blessing and scattering of the ashes will be held at the Speller Farm, by the Rev. Barbara Chaffee.
Survivors include: wife, Elizabeth Fearing Gillam of Windsor, NC; daughters, Elizabeth "Sis" G. Hall of Elizabeth City, NC, Constance Gillam Burke of Williamsburg, VA, Penny Gillam Sermons of Washington, NC; son, Rascoe Bond Gillam of Jamesville, NC; sister, Mary Whitmel Gillam of Nags Head, NC; brothers, Benjamin Herman Gillam of Whiteville, NC, Carlton Goodchild Gillam of Windsor, NC; grandchildren, Carroll Gillam Hall, William Tuttle Hall, Elizabeth Aaron Sermons, Wayland James Sermons III, Eric Bradford Burke.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Bertie County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 74, Windsor, NC 27983 or to Windsor United Methodist Church, 408 S. Queen St., Windsor, NC 27983.

CHARLES E. GREEN SR.
April 12, 1929 - April 4, 1999
RALEIGH - Charles E. "Charlie" Green Sr., 69, of 2704 Rockwood Drive, died Sunday. Graveside service 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999 at Raleigh City Cemetery with Reverend Tim Batten officiating.
Surviving daughters, Mary Jo Green of Wilmington and Teresa Green of Durham; sons, Charles E. Green Jr. and Eugene Green, both of Durham; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 today at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, other times at the home of Helen Morgan, 4012 Barwell Road, Raleigh.

LUELLEN TYSON JEFFERSON
ENFIELD - Luellen Tyson Jefferson, 63, died Tuesday. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday at Carlisle Funeral Home. Burial in Queen Ann Cemetery, Fountain.
Surviving: husband, Franklin Jefferson; daughters, B.J. Bohn of Enfield; Beth Schafer of Colorado Springs, CO, Teresa Dayman of Denton, MD; son, Neal Jefferson of Enfield; sisters, Hazel Pearsall of Virginia Beach, Peggy Nanney of Raleigh; brother, A.J. Tyson of Burgaw; five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Carlisle Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

SARAH WASHAM "BECKY" JOHNSON
SUN CITY, FL - Funeral service for Sarah Rebecca Washam "Becky" Johnson of Sun City, FL, formerly of Raleigh, NC who died April 3, 1999, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday from Brown-Wynne Funeral Home chapel, St. Mary's Street. Burial will follow in Airport Blvd. Community Cemetery, Morrisville, NC.

EDWARD J. MAJEWSKI
WILLOW SPRING - Edward John Majewski, 81, of 9049 Walter Myatt Rd., Willow Spring, NC, died April 4, 1999 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield, NC. He was born January 11, 1918 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Peter and Josephine Kolarz Majewski.
He is survived by three sons, Edward J. Majewski, Jr. of Clayton, John A. Majewski of Neshanic Station, NJ, Peter P. Majewski of Willow Spring; a brother John Majewski of Batavia, NY; a sister Helen Gierek of Phoenix, AZ; six grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; two great-granddaughters, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. His wife Clara Jankowski Majewski of 51 years; son, Thomas James Majewski; sisters Anna Pappalardo, Adeline Rodon, and brother Casimer Majewski preceded him in death.
He served as a Master-Sergeant with the Army-Air Force's 306th Air Service Squadron-41st Air Service Group in the EAME Theater during WWII. In 1953 he started Majewski Heating Co. in Batavia, NY. In 1984 he retired and moved to Cary, NC. Then moved to Willow Spring, NC in 1985. He was a member of VFW Post 7383, Cary, NC; St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Fuquay-Varina, NC; Polish Falcons of America, Nest 493, Batavia, NY; Exempt Member of the Town of Batavia Fire Dept., plus several other organizations.
Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 8, 1999 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1005 Wilbon Road, Fuquay-Varina, NC. Graveside service 2 p.m. Thursday at the Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 7, 1999 from 7-9 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 400 Oberlin Road, Suite 208, Raleigh, NC 27605-1351.

HOWARD A. McDADE
GARNER - Howard A. McDade, 70, Christy Court, Garner, died March 16, 1999. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 8, at 1 p.m., Samaria Baptist Church, 3621 Poole Road, Raleigh.
Surviving are an adopted son and two grandchildren of Hutchinson, Kan.; niece, Trudy M. Payne of Thomasville; nephew, David McDade of Lexington and many cousins
Memorial contributions may be made to Samaria Baptist Church Chair Lift Fund or a charity of one's choice.

ELEANOR E. NASH
RALEIGH - Eleanor Edwards Nash, 65, died Tuesday. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at Sugg Funeral Chapel, Fuquay-Varina. Burial, Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Surviving: husband, Worth T. Nash; two sons, Coy Aiken and Mike Aiken, both of Henderson; daughter, Freida Covil of Red Springs; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; Charlie Edwards of Salem, VA, Rufus Edwards of New Bern; sister, Jane Peoples of Louisburg.
Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Sugg Funeral Home.

DONALD G. "DONNIE" PARK
TACOMA, WA - Donald "Donnie" George Park, 30, died Friday, April 2, 1999. Mr. Park was born February 8, 1969 in Wake County, son of Robert Park and Judy Park Houck.
Surviving: wife, Natalie Lamm Park; mother and stepfather, Judy Park and Byard Houck of Emerald Isle; father, Robert Park of Roanoke Rapids; brother, Christopher D. and wife, Cindi Park of Raleigh; half brother, David Park of Wilmington, Bobby Park of Roanoke Rapids; stepbrother, Russell Houck of Rocky Mount; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dennis and Jennifer Lamm of Greenville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Danae and Mike Alig of Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount with Dr. John Browning officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Nash Community College Foundation in Rocky Mount or Carteret Community College Foundation in Morehead City.

CHARLES EUGENE PERSINGER SR.
GREENVILLE, KY - Charles E. Persinger, of Greenville, KY, formerly of Greensboro, NC, died Friday, April 2, 1999 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN. Funeral service will be held 2:30 pm. Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Ralph Metcalf officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Persinger was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Opal McKinney Persinger. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was a retired Petroleum tech.
Mr. Persinger is survived by three sons, Gene Persinger and wife, Sarah of Raleigh, Wayne Persinger and wife, Diana of Norwich, England, and Gary Persinger and wife, Nancy of Greenville, KY; brother, Benjamin Persinger of Glasgow, W.VA; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home, 300 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Baptist Church, 3812 Groometown Road, Greensboro, NC 27407.

MARY Y. ROBINSON
DURHAM - Mary Young Bass Robinson, 73, of 17 Glenmore Dr., Durham, died Monday in Duke Medical Center. Born in Halifax, NC, she was the daughter of the late Raymond A. and Bessie Marshall Bass. She graduated from East Carolina University where she was crowned "May Queen" in 1945. Mrs. Robinson worked at the Enfield Progress Newspaper for many years. She and her husband, spent 20 years in Greensboro, where she was a charter member of St. Francis Episcopal Church. The Robinsons spent 12 years in Goldsboro affiliated with St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Robinson was currently a member of the Church of the Holy Family in Chapel Hill.
As a wife of a clergyman, Mary Young Robinson was devoted to the Church, and she shared her remarkable gifts of genuine love and care to friends and stranger alike. She gave to her community through work with WAGES, a senior citizens group in Wayne County and with the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Duke Hospital. She received a special citation for her dedication as a volunteer.
Surviving are her husband, the Rev. Peter C. Robinson; her children, Michael Robinson, David Robinson and his wife, Patricia, and Susan Carol Robinson, all of Raleigh; one brother, Raymond "Buddy" Bass of Fayetteville; three sisters, June Jackson of Severna Park, MD, Thomasine Cubine of Virginia Beach, VA, and Carolyn Aument of Silver Springs, MD; and two grandchildren, Cody Marshall and Chase Alexander Robinson, and close family friend, James R. King Jr. of Durham.
A requiem Eucharist will be offered 1:00 p.m. Thursday from the Church of the Holy Family with the Right Rev. Robert Johnson, the Rev. Timothy Kimbrough and the Rev. Frank Fagan concelebrating. Burial will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday in St. Francis Episcopal Church Cemetery, Greensboro.
Friends will be received 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Holy Family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Holy Family Episcopal Church, 200 Hayes Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27514 or the charity of one's choice.
Hall-Wynne is serving the Robinson family.

LOUISE DEANE SANDERS
RALEIGH - Louise Deane Sanders, 74, of 3809 Willow Creek Drive, died Sunday, April 4, 1999 at Wake Medical Center. Mrs. Sanders retired from Westinghouse with 38 years of service. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999 at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving: son, Edward Deane Trice, Sr. of Raleigh; daughter, Linda S. Quinlivan and her husband, Timothy John of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Edward Deane Trice Jr., Tina Louise Trice, Angela Michelle Quinlivan, Justin Scott Quinlivan; two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her husband, Shelton Guy Sanders, Jr. on July 16, 1991.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the Sanders home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 2500 New Bern Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27610

SAMUEL SANDERS
RALEIGH - Samuel Sanders, of 911 E. Martin St., Apt #1, died on Thursday, April 1, 1999. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999 at Haywood Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, 12-1 p.m. Interment takes place at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
He leaves to mourn three sisters, Ruby S. Upshaw of Seattle, Wash., Sadie Sanders of Hartford, Conn. and Daisy S. Landis of New York; brother, Charles Sanders of New York; 15 nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

DAISY S. TALLEY
RALEIGH - Mrs. Daisy Stewart Talley, 90, of Raleigh, a native of Buies Creek, died April 5, 1999 at her home. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Michael Simmons officiating. Burial, Buies Creek Cemetery.
Surviving: daughter, Betty T. Bazemore of the home; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Visitation 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Buies Creek First Baptist Church, PO box 126, Buies Creek NC 27506.
