ZEBULON - Louise Todd Watson, 79, died April 4. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday at Lee's Crossroad Baptist Church. Burial, Todd Family Cemetery.
Surviving: three sons, Henry Boyd (Pennica) of Raleigh, Oscar Boyd and Ulysess Boyd (Vernell) of Zebulon; four foster children, Robert and Joseph Farley, Linda and Eva Williams; one sister, Eliza T. Heath of Zebulon; three brothers, Griffin Todd Sr. (Gladys) and Alfred D. Todd, all of Zebulon, William G. Todd (Laura) of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Marion P. Todd and Odessa V. Todd, both of Raleigh, Lovey M. Todd and Pauline H. Todd, both of Zebulon; cousin, Mary Arrington of Zebulon; one great aunt, Alma Price.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Zebulon First Baptist Church.

RALEIGH - Sywanda M. Whitley, of 904 S. State St., died Tuesday. Memorial service 3 p.m. Thursday at Lea Funeral Home.
Surviving: parents, father, Rufus M. Whitley (deceased) and mother, Mary R. Whitley of Raleigh; sisters, Angela Whitley Dawson of Raleigh; brothers, Melvin Leon Whitley of Durham and M. Tyrone Whitley of Sacramento, CA; also surviving: a host of nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts.

VELNA "BUTTERFLY LADY" WILDER
St. PETERSBURG, FL - Velna E. "Butterfly Lady," Wilder, 85, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Thursday, April 1, 1999 at Crown Point Nursing Home. B orn in New Bern, NC, she moved to Florida in 1996 from Atlanta, GA. She was a journalist for the Akron, Ohio, Beacon Journal. She was Methodist, and a former member of Eastern Star in Rockmart, GA.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Rich of Nokomis, FL; and Julie Webber of St. Petersburg; a sister, Julia Murdoch, Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

REV. PAUL T. WORRELL
1903-1999
SEABOARD - Reverend Paul Thomas Worrell, passed on to glory Monday, April 5,1999 at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Beatrice Joyner Worrell, daughters, Lona Nell Worrell Bullard and husband, Lubin Bullard Jr., Tommie Ruth Worrell Lehrschall and husband, William Lehrschall and sister, Callie Mae Daughtry. He also had five grandsons, Thomas L. Bullard (deceased), Wayne Bullard, Norman Bullard, Paul Noblin and Mark Noblin; four great-grandchildren, Hope Noblin and Trent, Alex and Michael Bullard, three nieces, six nephews and several cousins. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson on Wednesday, April 7 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Seaboard Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, with the burial following at Seaboard Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Reverend Worrell was born near Seaboard, March 18, 1903, the son of the late George Thomas Worrell and Annie Spencer Worrell. He graduated from Seaboard High School and received his B.A. degree from Wake Forest College in 1930 where he prepared for the gospel ministry in the Baptist church. He served as pastor at Yanceyville, Thompsonville, Baines, Kerr's Chapel, and Trinity; Colerain and Everetts until he retired in 1968. He then served as interim pastor at churches in the area until 1989, including Clarksbury, Va., Galatia, Mt. Carmel, Seaboard, Gaston and Margarettsville. With devotion to God's plan for his life, and like the Good Shepherd, he led his flocks with compassion, guidance and care.
For many years, he was active in the Masonic Lodge; being Master several years in Colerain. He received the 32nd degree and had remained an active member in Stonewall Lodge 296 in Robersonville until his death.
He was a devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather; and will be remembered always through those whose lives he touched.

RICHARD BRADLEY COLEMAN
DURHAM - Richard Bradley Coleman died at his home on Saturday, April 24, 1999. Richard was born in Sacramento, California on September 3, 1936 to the late Frank Wallace Coleman and Erma Cordelia Bradley. When he was three, the family moved to Albany, California. Richard remained in the Bay Area until moving to Durham in June 1994.
He received his Bachelor of Sciences-Environmental Health Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley in 1959 and his Masters of Public Heath (Environmental Health Administration) from the University of California at Berkeley in 1965. He worked for the County of Sonoma, California as an Environmental Health Specialist from 1959 - 1980; for the University of California at Berkeley as Workers Compensation Coordinator from 1980 - 1983; for the University of California at Berkeley as Risk Manager from 1986 until his retirement in November 1993. In Durham, Richard worked as a Broker Associate at Fonville Morisey Real Estate.
Richard was a member of the Board of Realtors of Durham, NC; Oakland CA and Berkeley CA. He served on the Board of Directors for the Exchange Clubs Child Abuse Prevention Center in Durham and for the University of California at Berkeley Marching Band, as the President of the Duke Park Preservation Initiative, and was a member of the Friendship Reunion Group, the National Association of Sanitarians, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, and the Registered Sanitarians of California and the Exchange Club of Durham.
Richard is survived by his friend and partner of 26 years, Daniel J. Long; two children, Colette Coleman Smallwood of Woodinville, Washington, Harriet Coleman Inglesby of Danville, California; sons-in-law, Peter Smallwood and Pat Inglesby; grandsons, Brett Inglesby and Spencer Smallwood; granddaughters, Caitlin Smallwood and Shannon Inglesby; a host of friends.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held Saturday, May 1, 1999 at his home.

EVERETT HINTON SMITH
APEX - Everett Hinton Smith, 72, of 914 Laura Duncan Road, Apex, N.C. died Thursday, April 29, 1999. Mr. Smith was a active member and Deacon of the Catawba Springs Christian Church. Retired from the Town of Apex, a former Softball Umpire with the Parks and Recreation Department with the City of Raleigh, N.C. and was an employee of Food Lion of Apex, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 3, 1999 at 2 p.m. in the Catawba Springs Christian Church, officiating will be Rev. Chuck Woodruff. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors are: his wife, Lillie Prince Smith of the home; two daughters, Deborah Harris and husband, Gene of Apex, N.C., Barbara Smith and friend, Jimbo Loyd of Apex, N.C.; a grandson, Robert Eugene Harris Jr.; two brothers, Raeford W. Smith and wife Mary of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Dwight T. Smith and wife Peggy of Garner, N.C.; sisters, Retha Gardner of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Inez Bowman of Norfolk, Va., Coreen McKee of Raleigh, N.C., Annie Dale Wilkes of Lillington, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 1999 at Apex Funeral Home, 511 West Williams St. (Hwy. 55), Apex, N.C.; other times at the home.
Flowers are welcome and memorials may be given to the Catawba Springs Christian Church Building Fund, 6801 Ten Ten Road, Apex, N.C. 27502 and to the Apex Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 765, Apex, N.C. 27502.

NAOMI CONKLING AVERY
CARY - Naomi Conkling Avery, 72, of Cary, died Friday, April 30, 1999. Mrs. Avery was a retired Wake County Elementary School Teacher. Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Jacksonville City Cemetery, Jacksonville, NC.
She is survived by her nephew, Chuck Conkling of Morrisville; nieces, Avery Conkling of Raleigh, Julie Babb of Brighton, Iowa; sister-in-law, Gwen Conkling of Raleigh; stepmother, Louise Conkling of Macon, GA; stepbrothers, Richard Scott of Macon, GA, Fred Scott of Boynton Beach, FL.

LEATA A. BARNES
CLAYTON - Leata A. Barnes, 97, of 204 Daisy Rd., died Thursday, 4/29. Graveside service 2 p.m. Sunday, Maplewood Cemetery. Dr. John Allen officiating.

She is survived by: nephews, T. Herman Allen, Calvin Allen and Thomas Allen, all of Clayton, B.C. Allen and James Allen, both of Raleigh; nieces, Mildred Askew of Raleigh, Marie Barrow of Clayton, Betty Burgess of Woodbridge, VA; several great-nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

ROBERT FRANKLIN BARNWELL
KINSTON - Robert Franklin Barnwell, 86, of 1600 Greenbriar Road, died Thursday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. He was a retired Sales Broker with Old Mansion Inc., active member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, former Elk and active member of the 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division.
Funeral service 3 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 1999 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Rev. Donald Weisner and Rev. William S. Brettmann officiating. Interment in the Columbarium at St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie B. Carr and Robert Winston "Judge" Carr Jr. of Raleigh; three sisters, Hallie B. Burch of Prospect, Hill, Bertha B. Cobb of Yancyville, Nanny B. Horton of Rougemont.
Memorials may be made to: St. Mary's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 800 Rountree, Kinston, N.C. 28501.

WILLIAM MORRISON BARWICK SR.
WASHINGTON - William Morrison Barwick, Sr. of Cypress Shores, Washington, died April 29, 1999 at Beaufort County Hospital at the age of 81. Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 1999 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. William J. Bradbury officiating.
Mr. Barwick will be cremated and the remains will be placed in the Memorial Garden at St. Peters's Episcopal Church at a later date.
Mr. Barwick was born in Goldsboro on October 15, 1917, son of the late, William Edgar Barwick and Rosa C. Smith Barwick. He received his early education in Wayne County and was a 1936 graduate of New Bern High School. He later attended North Carolina State University before entering the US Navy serving in Europe during World War II. After his military service, Mr. Barwick built, owned and operated Morehead City Yacht Basin in Morehead and the Trent Marine Service in New Bern. In 1953 he married Elizabeth "Betsy" Koonce of Washington and together they operated the Trent Pines Country Club in New Bern, a popular Country Club Resort and Marina from 1954-1964. For 23 years he operated Bill Barwick and Associates, a manufacturer's agency, until his retirement in 1986. He was an active member of the Bunyan Ruitan Club and NC-VA Ramblers Fellowship Club.
Mr. Barwick is survived by his wife, Betsy; daughter, Suzanne B. Williams of Woodbridge, VA; son, William M. Barwick, Jr. of Wilmington; brother, E. M. Barwick of New Bern; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 3:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday in Gardner Hall at St. Peter's Episcopal Church following the service and other times at the home located at 200 Cypress Shores Dr., Washington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Soul's Fund, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 985, Washington, NC 27889 or charity of the donor's choice.

MARY LUCINDA WILLIAMS CARR
DURHAM - Mary Lucinda Williams Carr, of 409 Watts Street, died Wednesday, April 28, at Durham Regional Hospital.
She was born in Wallace, NC, Duplin County, April 26, 1898, daughter of the late Eleanor Tommie Smith and the late Daniel Stokes Williams. She was educated at the elementary level at the Dellway Schools, Dellway, NC; high school level at Jones Sprunt Institute, Kenansville, NC; and college level at Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, NC, where she majored in music.
She married Dr. Henry C. Carr on July 10, 1917 and started married life as an Army wife at Camp Jackson, SC. After WWI, they moved to Durham where Dr. Carr started his dental practice.
Mrs. Carr has been a contributing matriarch of Durham for 82 years. She and Dr. Carr were one of the four couples who helped establish and found Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church, where she was the church organist for 36 years. She held every office possible for the women of the church and was honored with a life membership in the women of the church.
She was a charter member of the Study Club, a local book club founded in 1923, and a member of the Little Red Hens organization, a member of the Durham Women's Club, and the Neighbor Club of Trinity Park. She was local and state president of the North Carolina Dental Auxiliary and was the North Carolina Mother of the Year.
Her 101 years of gracious and hospitable living was devoted to her family, friends, church, her Lord and the community at large. Her Christian influence knew no bounds and will live forever.
Surviving are two daughters, Eleanor Stokes Carr Boyd of Charlotte and Frances Sprunt Carr Parker of Kinston; son-in-law, Dr. Samuel L. Parker, Jr. of Kinston; grandchildren, Nancy Lucinda Parker of Charleston, SC, Henry Samuel Parker and wife Cecelia of Kinston, Frances Carr Parker Marlow and husband Andrew of Greenville, NC, Holly Eleanor Parker of Kinston, Harry M. Boyd, Jr. and wife Mary Ann of Cincinnati, OH, Robert Carr Boyd and wife Beth of Charlotte, Daniel Stokes Boyd and wife Mary of Charlotte, David Henry Boyd and wife Cindy of Spartanburg, SC; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Donovan Drake officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church, Family of Faith Campaign, or the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are with Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.

SUPORA WELDON DAVIS
RALEIGH - Supora Weldon Davis, 65, died Monday. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday at Gethsemane True Vine Holiness Church. Burial, Mount Hope Cemetery.
Surviving: daughters, Supora Ann Weldon, Ernestine Weldon both of Raleigh; son, Thomas Weldon of Raleigh; sisters, Cora Belle Hinton, Blondell Weldon, Hattie Thorpe, and Ida Belle Hinton, all of Raleigh; brothers, Robert Weldon, Henry Weldon, both of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Visitation, 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Lightner Funeral Home.

HELEN H. DUGANNE
HOLLY SPRINGS - Helen Heise Duganne, 75, of 8775 20th Street in Vergo Beach, Florida, died Friday, April 30, 1999 at the home of her daughter, Edith Nightingale in Holly Springs.
Mrs. Duganne was an active Episcopalian for most of her adult life.
A memorial service and inurnment will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach, Florida at a later date.
Surviving: husband, John D. Duganne of Vero Beach, Florida; daughter, Edith Nightingale of Holly Springs; son, William J. Duganne of Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren, David W. Nightingale of Holly Springs, Christopher A. Duganne and Shelly Lang, both of Richmond, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's Street, 4th Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605; The American Cancer Society, 620 W. Morgan Street, Raleigh, NC 27603 or Trinity Episcopal Church, 2365 Pine Avenue, Vero Beach, Florida 32960.

MRS. MICHAEL "MIKKI" ELLIOTT
WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Michael "Mikki" Letitia Elliott, 81, died Thursday, April 29, 1999 at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was a former resident of Richmond, VA and recently moved to Winston-Salem. She was born January 3, 1918 in Pulaski, VA to Malcolm Trenton and Bertha Jordan Runyon. Mrs. Elliott was retired from Thalhimer's Department Store where she was a retail buyer for over 20 years. She was a volunteer tour guide for the Virginia Science Museum in Richmond until her health declined.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Saunders Elliott.
Surviving: daughter, Letitia "Tish" Patrick and husband, Jerry of Sparta, NC; granddaughter, Michael "Mika" Letitia Drew and husband, Dr. Julian S. of Raleigh; great grandchildren, Julian Gibson Drew and Ella Letitia Drew, both of Raleigh; sister, Toni Runyon and an uncle, Harold Jordan and wife, Mary, all of Winchester, KY.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 1999 at the chapel at Forsyth Medical Center, 3333 Silas Creek Pkwy., Winston-Salem, officiated by Chaplain Randy Hillman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross.
Arrangements by Cremation Services of Winston-Salem.
